Win 8 Pro Recovery

Hi
I can not get to HP for assistance... Warranty expired. I have a HP Pavilion G7 laptop. I had a crash and lost my OS Win 8 Pro w/MCenter  and need a revovery disk. The one I made when I bought the laptop 1 1/2 years ago...has no Boot info so it is totally unuseable. How can I get one? OR What can I do?
Thanks for any help
PS> HP doesn't recognize my model/serial and such or location. It says that My numbers are not for the US store and the HP caribbean...doesn't list the US VI.... I am at a loss here. LOL
I looked on ebay and found many but not for a HP Pav G-7. I need help, please. Do I have to buy a new OS now or ?

Assuming (because you haven't clearly stated this in your post) you have an HP Pavilion g7-2118nr Notebook Computer, this model shipped from the factory with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) installed. Please see DVD - Windows 7 64b + Supp 1 Recovery Kit to order Windows 7 HP Recovery Discs directly from HP. You will need to supply a continental US address (friend, family, etc.) and then have them ship you the discs.
These discs will restore the computer to a factory like state. You will then need to upgrade the computer to Windows 8 Pro w/Media Center using the Microsoft store or your Windows 8 Pro media and your Windows 8 Pro / Media Center product key.
You will not find any Windows 8 Pro HP Recovery Discs for this model, as HP never shipped this model with Windows 8. Also, Recovery Discs for other models will not work (they won't pass the model check portion of the recovery).
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • Re: Need Win 7 Recovery Disc for my Satellite Pro L750

    Hi all,
Could someone tell me where to download or get a copy of the OEM Win 7 Recovery disc for my Satellite Pro L750? The laptop has a new HDD without a working recovery partition and I don't the recovery CD.
    Help Please.

Yes of course you should make backup disks but this was my first personal laptop (unbelievable, right ? Never needed one before) and I wasn't aware i couldn't just make a recovery disk from any pc like I used to do for my desktop. The hdd is supposed to last for what, 5,000 hours ?
I would be lucky to have had more than 1,000 hours on it. And no games play either; it had an easy life.
As per Microsoft Forums I did a clean install of Windows 7 using a supposedly OEM setting download from Digital River (OEM in the 'channel' setting in the ei.efg file) but good old Toshiba must do something else in the hardware as slmgr /dli still states it's a 'retail' version so even though Microsoft would have given me a new product key (as to which i am entitled as i have purchased a licence when i bought the laptop), because the installation id states retail based, my genuine licence key number from the bottom of the laptop does not register as genuine when they check.
I tried my desktop pc oem windows 7 installation disk that I got with the pc (now there's a whacky idea, providing a disk with the purchase...) and no luck there either. The laptop was still locked to its own licence key and retail version. I'm guessing even if i bought a new retail windows copy, it still wouldn't work !
I still think $66 is far too much to pay to get the disks. I've already paid for the windows licence, But what choice has toshiba left me, other than to pay them their blood money.
I may be a slow learner, but I do learn. I will never buy a Toshiba laptop, or other Toshiba product again. Sure, other companies will have the same licensing setup, but I'm not angry at them !

  • Using W530 Win 7 Recovery Disks on W540

    Hi All,
    I own W530 and W540 thinkpads. I bought W530 almost 18 months ago and W540 almost 3 months ago.
    W530: Win 7 Pro, 24gb, 250gb SSD , 500gb HDD, Recovery Disks (Win7)
    W540: Win 8, 16gb, 500gb HDD, Recovery Disks (Win8)
As i did not like Win 8 , i want to install Win 7 on it. Can i use Win 7 Recovery Disks that came with W530 on W540?
I tried it but did not work for me. Got a blue screen (0x0000007B)
    Thanks you for the help.

    Good day.
You didn't mention Win8Pro, so I'll assume your W540 came with Win8Std (aka Win8Core). Some Win8Pro-licensed machines (not limited to the W540) came with Win7Pro downgrade rights, were imaged as such from the factory, and included Win8Pro recovery media. In any case, I'm not totally surprised that the W530 media doesn't work, technically.
If my assumption is correct, to accomplish what you're after, I believe you'll need to purchase a Win7Pro license.
    Hope this helps clarify.

  • I want to install windows7 on my 27in iMAC. I have an OEM version of Win7 which is win pro 7, 64 bit english.  I will use boot camp to partion the hard drive for a win7 install.  Can I use this version for the installation ??

My iMAC is a 2011 3.4 GHz intel i7 based with a 27in display.  A year ago, I bought a Microsoft win pro 7 64-bit english OEM OS to install over a newly assembled AMD PC.  I never installed it.  Now, I want to put it on my iMAC using either Apple Bootcamp or Parallels.  The win 7 OEM package has a lot of verbage about using an OEM preinstallation kit (OPK) and that it must be preinstalled on the hard drive.  Is it OK to install this win7 version following the Bootcamp instructions.?

  • After upgrading from win 7 - win 8, do I really need the win 7 recovery partition?

    Hello.
I'm a happy camper after upgrading my HP Spectre XT from win 7 to win 8 (Win 8 upgrade offer). The 128GB SSD disks just makes everything so smooth and fast.
However I am abit annoyed with the Win 7 recovery partition that still uses 20 GB of my total 128GB space.
I have tried searching the forums, as well as the www for any good answers, but I end up more confused.
So I am asking the community some questions that interests me, and hopefully you can provide me with some meaningsful answers
    1. Can I now delete my win 7 recovery partition, and if so what is the most effiecient and safe way to do it?
    2. Is there a a good way to make sure that if (heaven forbid) something would happen, I still would be able to recover my notebook preferably to win 8, and not the preinstalled OEM win 7?
    3. Of course the Spectre XT has no optical drive, so if its doable I might need to make an win 8 recovery partition in the end. Is it possible?

You can use Windows builtin Disk Management to delete the partition, or EaseUS software. Both procedures are outlined at EaseUS site:
    http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/windows-8-partition-manager/delete-windows-8-partition.htm
As for a Recovery option after deleting, look at System Imaging which is builtin Windows 8 also. You need an external USB hdd for this.

  • Windows 8.1 downgrade to windows 7 pro recovery media with Satellite S50-BBT2N22

I have a few questions about my recovery media.
    1. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 was ordered with Windows 8.1 downgrade-able to Win 7 pro. Should I build my recovery media before or after I downgrade to win 7 pro?
    2. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 does not have a DVD drive. How will I save my recovery media?
    Regards
    Dennis

    1. Before.  Your Recovery partition will remain Windows 8.1. After downgrading to Windows 7 and beginning operations, you should make frequent HDD copies to an external drive anyway.
    2. Use a Flash Drive in a USB port.  See your User's Guide starting on page 46 for complete instructions

  • How do I solve this win xp recovery / install problem?

    Hello
I have made a backup of the Vista install that comes with the new laptop onto 3 DVDs.
Now I'm trying to launch the Toshiba Product Recovery Media (Win XP Pro) Discs to install Win XP instead.
The Toshiba Product Recovery Media consists of a 1 CD + 1 DVD (for Toshiba Satellite Pro L300)
When I boot up on the CD a Ramdisk OS is installed (great its working!) and then I get a message saying...
"Windows cannot find 'X:BIN\TOSDIALOG.EXE' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." (OK button)
    Maybe X: is the Ramdisk.
When I press okay the message it repeats two more times then the computer reboots. The screen is blank behind the message and nothing else is operable.
When I try to boot up from the DVD nothing happens.
If I start either the CD or DVD up in Vista there is no autoplay or any obvious ways of starting the recovery process.
I must be missing something simple.
    Please can someone help?

One thing I did that could have caused a problem was...
With Vista installed I tried to create another partition. In the process I completely screwed up the C Drive booting up. So I had to use the emergency recovery and return to factory setting. Then I followed the process and reinstalled Vista.
Vista is now installed and running. Then I tried to install the Win XP. I would have thought that with Vista back up and running with the C: drive running effectively that it was back to exactly how it was before.

  • Win 8 recovery WARNING

Lenovo ideapad systems using win8 has recovery issues if you change partitions, sizes or replace the hdd/sdd.
Win 8 systems have two ostensible options for creating system backup flash drives.
    1. The standard Windows 8 option (control panel -> recovery) doesn't work with Lenovo systems - which does cause confusion.
    2. The Lenovo backup solution does not work if you resize partitions, delete the Recovery partition, or if you replace the hdd/sdd for any reason.
    3. The only option in the latter case is to call lenovo for back up disks around $50/£30 ( or go out and buy another copy of Win 8 - or win 7 if you don't like 8!).
Since hdds/sdds have a limited life, and are one of the more common reasons for system failure, it seems very odd to me that Lenovo's recovery solution is TOTALLY inadequate when it comes to this.
In the UK there is a case for Sale of Goods act, but this takes time, and probably no good if you need your system back in a rush.
I would suggest that Lenovo needs to review this process and come up with something that does what it says on the box, no ifs or buts.

That's why most knowledgeable computer owners, invest in a reliable external hard drive, to handle their weekly/monthly backup.
If you want to replace a failed internal drive, you should create a system image to the external backup drive, upon setting up the computer for the first time. That system image can be used to replace/restore the factory shipped state of the failed drive.
          http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/8956-system-image-create-windows-8-a.html
Then set up the File History to backup the files as you use them, and do a full system backup weekly/monthly.
This multi-backup strategy will protect you in case of a internal hard drive failure.
Lenovo's OKR software is geared for the most inexperienced computer owner, so if they messed up their system by deleting some of the required Lenovo programs, or by installing incompatible programs that borks the Lenovo software, they can restore the system to it's factory shipped state. It does not replace a complete daily/weekly/monthly backup strategy.
No review is necessary. The OKR does do "what it says on the box" as long as the user leaves the recovery partition alone. If you want to "upgrade" your system to a larger HDD, or SSD, you need to follow the known methods for doing so. That includes, but is not limited to, creating a system image of the shipped drive, and a complete backup to an external recovery source, before you crack the back cover off.

  • IBM A31 2652-J3G XP Pro Recovery Disc

    Hi everyone,
I am still using an IBM Thinkpad A31 2652-J3G. The (tiny but sufficient what my needs) 20gb Hard Drive has failed, and I've replaced the hard drive. However I do not have any recovery discs for this model. There is a legitimate XP Pro license sticker on the underside of the unit but obviously I'm stuck.
I bought this until around 1993 when I lived in the UK. I now live in the USA. I'd like to put windows back on this system ASAP. (I've installed Ubuntu temporarily but that isn't ideal because it refuses to work with my PCMCIA wireless card), and I'm struggling to find a compatible USB stick that will work with both Ubuntu and the ancient USB1 ports on the laptop!
I just want XP Pro back! The system obviously isn't up to running Windows 7, but if I could afford to buy that anyway I wouldn't be using my ten year old laptop in the first place!
Many thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Don't believe the hype about whats legal, if you own the operating system, then it doesn't matter how you get it on your system, it's still legal.
When my harddrive died on my A31, I installed  winXP pro from an oem disc that came with a gateway computer. When I called microsoft to activate it, they refused and told me ot call ibm, I bm wanted me to buy discs...   I called microsoft back ang almost had to scream at them and demanded an answer. I told them I purchased and owned Win XP on both computers, I had installed the exact same, Win XP Pro OEM version, I want an answer if this is legal, and if so I want it activated immediately, if not, my lawyer wants your refusal and the reason in writing.
    They quickly activated it.
Its bad enough that they charge hundreds of dollars for a product they can reproduce an infinate number of times for pennies, but then they want you to buy it over and over, every few years.
Sorry for rant, but stand up for yourself, you paid for this product when you bought the computer, so don't let them push you around.
Also, if your computer dies, you can legally transfer the operating system to another computer, or another person even. They want you to think it's only licensed to one computer, but that's against the law. Its licensed to only one computer at a time, but you can transfer it to another legally.
In fact, I just sold my XP pro after I purchased an oem of Windows Seven. I'm going to do the same with my other A31 if you want a cheap copy of XP pro. I have a couple copies of  win 2000 pro too.

  • Does anyone know how to use the Yoga 2 Pro Recovery Media?

    Hey guys,
Tech support is not being helpful at all. I paid $60 just for some recovery discs to recover my accidentally formatted Yoga 2 Pro. The discs came with no instructions whatsoever, and using them is weird. First of all, there is two disc 1's, no disc 2, yet there is a disc 3 and 4. Support confirmed this is normal. There is also no prompt between discs 1,1, and 2, so despite making my best guess at when to switch, I can't confidently say I'm not screwing things up.
After the whole process completes, the bios can't find bootable media.
Tech support confimed that I'm missing a small step, but won't disclose what it is unless I pay for premium support.
Can anyone provide instructions for the recovery media? Tips or pointers that you remember when you are installing?
    thanks!
    Solved!

Take a picture of the disks and upload it here. Worst comes to worst, ditch those disk and install a retail version of Windows 7 (unactivated---so it won't be illegal to use). Use a bios windows key snooper > Take your OEM key to Microsoft website and legally download a copy of Windows 8 for free.
....also, does the OKR system not work? I am aware that you reformated your main drive... but, did you change the tables or partition sizes?

  • Windows 7 Pro recovery DVD for T420 laptop?

Can you get a recovery DVD from Lenovo for the T420 laptop.  I created the recovery media, and then had the OS remove the recovery partition after the creation of the discs. I just found that there is a problem with the disc and can't restore the system now.
CAn I get a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit DVD from Lenovo if I provide a reciept, etc. so I can re-install the OS on the laptop??  EVen if I have to pay a small fee, that's fine.  I'd don't want have go buy another copy of Windows for this computer, which I've only had for about 2 months, and I frankly don't have the time to make a warranty claim (if I even can).

Lenovo will sell you a recovery media set for the same OS that shipped on your laptop.  IIRC, it will cost around $50US.
I've had a couple of cases where burned recovery media was defective and the laptop was still under warranty - and support sent media free.  I can't speak for them, but give support a call either way.

  • Satellite P50 Windows 7 Pro Recovery Media

    Hello,
I purchased from Toshiba Direct a custom built Satellite P50, model PSPMHU-0CR02Y.  I ordered it with and paid extra for Windows 7 Professional installed from the factory, with media for Windows 8.  When I received the computer, I created my own set of Windows 7 recovery media.  Last week I started to have issues with the laptop related to blue screens, tech support had me attempt to restore from the recovery partition (holding down 0 while turning on the computer), which failed with error about creating partition.  Then I tried to use the media I created, which failed due to a read error of the DVD.  The last attempt was using the Windows 8 media which came with the PC, then if it worked to try the restore partition again to get Windows 7 on the laptop.  Windows 8 installed successfully, however when I tried the restore partition the only option was for Windows 8.
So now I have Windows 8 - however I want Windows 7 back, which I paid for.  Tech support says Toshiba Direct should have also provided me with Windows 7 media, Toshiba Direct says I can get it from Acclaim, Acclaim says they don't have it, call customer service, customer service refers me back to Toshiba Direct, and Toshiba Direct says I'll have to wait for a call from a supervisor within 24 hours.  I have now repeated this telephone adventure 3 times, without any resolution or contact from a supervisor who is able to assist.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 8  Pro has downgrade rights Windows 7. This gives you the ability to use your license for Windows 8 with Windows 7. It doesn't, however, give you installation media or a key for Windows 7. You need to use your own media obtained elsewhere with a Windows 7 key. It's okay even if the key is already in use, because it's used just to get through installation. Afterward, Microsoft can activate via telephone. When you ordered it with Windows 7, Windows 7 was installed as a convenience, but recovery media with Windows 7 isn't available.

  • Win 7 Recovery DVD in Win 8.1

How do I create a recovery disk in Win 8.1 like I did with Win 7.
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi nmartens,
    Windows 8
To open the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator at the Start screen press the "Windows + C" keys together to open the charms bar.
Select "Search" from the charms bar.
Type "recovery" in to the Search field. As you type, the number of results will start appearing below.
Under "Apps" select "Recovery Media Creator" to open the recovery media creator.
Go to Steps to Create Recovery Media.
    Steps to create Recovery Media:
NOTE: Windows 7 screens are shown below, once in the recovery media creator, the process is the same Windows 8 is very similar.
After locating and clicking on "TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator", select "Yes" when prompted with the question, "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to your computer?"
Within the "Media Selection" area place checkmarks in the boxes next to the options you desire. The "System Recovery Media" option will make a disk set or USB flash drive (depending on selection) that will perform a complete recovery of your software. Some models include the option to create "Application Disks" (as seen below). This option will allow you to create a disk set you can use to reinstall programs you specifically select from a list of applications originally shipped with the computer. NOTE: The "Media Set" section allows you to select the type of media you prefer, the example shows the default selection; DVDs.
    Windows 7
    Windows 8
The "information" box indicates what type of disks or USB, and how many of them (discs), you will need in order to create the media you’ve selected. NOTE: Take the time to label the disks as you create them in order to avoid confusion later.
Checking the "Verify" box will allow the program to check the data as it is being written to the disks. Selecting this option will take longer for the application to create the disks but will ensure the disks are in good working order when completed.
Place a blank disk into your CD-ROM/DVD drive or connect a USB flash drive then select the "Create" button on the lower right of the page. Follow the on-screen instructions as you move through the process inserting new disks as the program requests them. NOTE: It may take several moments for the disc to become available after you close the drive .
    Additional Information:
The path to the Toshiba Media Creator Utility is not identical on each machine. If you want to locate the specific location of the application on non-Windows 8 machines you can use:
Start menu>All Programs>Toshiba>Utilities>Toshiba Recovery Media Creator
    Start menu>All Programs>CD & DVD Applications>Toshiba Recovery Media Creator
On some machines the application can be found by using "Toshiba recovery" into the search while others use simply "recovery".
On some machines the application is called the "Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator" utility as opposed to the "Toshiba Recovery Media Creator".
    Hope this works for you!
