Win 98 restrictions setup

I am a newbie to the zenworks world. My school system is running netwar
6 sp3 servers with zenworks 4. I have had great success getting control
of windows xp workstations and labs. But we still have 8 windows 98se
labs that are running great. I can control through user package, 98
properties, destop preferences, the background and other small things. I
want to be able to control the desktop icons, program files, essentially
everything the students can see much like it is done on the Windows XP
machines. How do I do this??? Thanks, David

Can't upgrade Win 7 Pro/64 to Win 8 Pro - setup can't continue

When I try upgrade Win7/64 to Win 8, after "Collecting files, Settings and Applications (100%)" , error message says "setup can't continue".

What can I do more?

Happened to me, too.
I realized that on my Windows 7, "bcdedit /export" resulted in the same error ("The handle is invalid." == ERROR_INVALID_HANDLE == 0x00000006). Apparently the problem is not in Windows 8 but in the running Windows 7.
So I followed the procedure here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392/en-us which is renaming the old BCD and peforming "bootrec /RebuildBcd". (Note: Without renaming the original BCD, "/RebuildBcd" did nothing effective.)
After that, "bcdedit /export" started to work. Upgrading to Windows 8 also went through.

Re-Install CS2 on Win VISTA but setup.exe now does not respond

I successfully installed and ran my legal, registered CS2 Production Premium on two different Win VISTA 64 machines, first on my original desktop, then my current laptop, which is what I now use.
Each time, CS2 installed OK. I had learned the "trick" was to stop the installation after the last program, before the suite proceeded to do the final steps. If I failed to stop prior to those final steps, the error message about registration occurred. If I stopped prior to the conclusion of the installation, then each program worked fine.
HOWEVER... I recently downloaded and installed CS5 demo, then removed CS5. I had uninstalled CS2 in preparation (because of disk space and potential conflicts). I cleaned the registry, as I also did after uninstalling CS5.
When I went to re-install CS2 (using the original legal disks), now the setup.exe program DOES NOTHING. It whirs when clicked, as if it's launching, then sits idle, not performing any tasks. I've let it "try" for hours, but no results.
I have: clicked on the file from Windows Explorer, I have opened a command line window and run e:\>Setup.exe, I have even copied the disk to the desktop and tried to run Setup.exe from there. There is never an error message. There is only no activity whatsoever from setup.exe.
During the time of the last successful CS2 installation and the current attempt to install, there have been several Vista updates installed on the machine.
So, I have successfully run CS2 on Vista 64, but not since removing the CS5 demo. My system is a multi-core AMD 64-bit processor running Windows Vista Home Premium Build 6002 with all Microsoft updates applied. (And yes, having not had any paying job in almost three years, I cannot figure out a way to fund the upgrade...and, of course, Adobe has cut off support of any kind for CS2.)
Does anyone have experience and a solution?

CS2 is completely unsupported under Vista and Win 7. 64 bit makes it even more difficult.
Unfortunately, you're on your own here. Best bet would be to upgrade to CS5 and you should take note of the fact that if you don't and you wait til CS6 ships you will be out of the upgrade loop altogether and will have to pay full price.

K7N420 Pro Hangs on Win XP/2000 setup

The Hard drive is blank. Boot from CDROM, Start Setup, Loads initial drivers, then stop on (starting windows). This is before you get to the screen to format drive as NTFS.
Microsoft has an tech support page about this and Nvidia chipsets. They suggest starting with another video card in the PCI slot, but that has not worked.
I searched the forum and could not find a similar problem. In fact there seems to be a lot of people running xp and 2000 on this motherboard.
What am I doing wrong??

blackangel: You haven't got an active network (cable modem etc.) connected to your onboard Ethernet have you?
This can stop XP in it's tracks, so can a PCI RAID card (I know this from personal experience).
I doubt it's your PSU (although it is possible) I run my board with a Mickey Mouse 300 Watt PSU (unbranded - cost £5-£10, at most). I was using a Q-Tec 550W until recently but I decided to clean and store it as my machine works perfectly well with the generic (e-star PC Case) supply - no sudden restarts, crashes or BSODs.
PSU is:
+3.3v 20A
+5v 30A
+12v 13A
3.3v and 5.5v combined 160W - Just in case anyone's interested :D
Check APIC setting in your BIOS is set to enabled, on more than one occasion I was unable to boot XP (after install) with it disabled.
There may be other settings in your BIOS that the XP install doesn't like - run through them to make sure nothing's amiss, try disabling the PNP OS setting also (If you haven't already.)
Also, as gfilitti has mentioned - is your Windows XP disc an original or a "Backup"? Your problems may just be down to a dodgy CD.
I suspect (as do previous posters) you may have a memory problem. I use two sticks of A-Data memory (see sig) at £18.00 a pop you can't go wrong - had no problems at all with my memory!
Last but not least, is your HD connected to your MoBo properly? - As far as I know you should be using an 80 conductor UDMA ATA cable, the Red or blue connector to your motherboard, Master device connected to the black end (usually) and your slave device to the centre (grey) connector. Getting these confused can cause a multitude of ills.
Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious - or you've tried all this before.
Anyway, when you have fixed it - let us know how.

Page restriction setup help

Hi I have an admin section I of course want to restrict site visitors from gaining access to. I have a login form, a login error template, application template, and a logout template. I also have a restrictAccess.cfm template that has a cfif condition. I can login in and everything redirects the way it is suposed too. I can logout as well. I can type the wrong username and password and get redirected to the loginError page, but I can still type in the URL to my adminHome page and it doesnt restrict my access. I have a cfinclude for the restrictAccess.cfm at the beginning of the adminHome page, but that doesnt seem to do anything.
here is my restrictAccess.cfm code.

Alchemy Repack 0.5 - Win Self Install Setup !

I made a minimum version of the compiler Alchemy.
Version that contains the files necessary to Alchemy based bash.exe Cygwin Lite.
This version is for Win32! It has been tested on XP SP3 and Seven.
Alchemy will be installed on C: \ Alchemy (Cygwin does not support well the pathcontains spaces like "Program Files").
Repack this is only 30 MB! Much better than the 500MB with Cygwin by default. Itinstalls in seconds compared to hours to download and setup for the standart version.
The auto setup includes:

- Generating password and group files
- generation of the profile bashrc
- Auto setup of PATH Alchemy
- Link to LLVM and others according to the Config file Alchemy

Error "disk_not_accessible" when installing NW7.0 Java on Win XP

Hello,
I'm trying to install the SAP NW 7.0 Java Edition trial on Windows XP.
The process fails at step 14 of 40 when creating the database. The symptoms and error are identical to the ones described in [this thread|Installation of SAPNW2004sJavaSP9_Trial;.
I added another 32GB disk and installed it on there - no joy.
I tried logging on with dbmcli and executing the same commands I found in the log file manually - same message.
This is on a brand new Windows installation: Win XP Pro SP2 + J2SDK 1.4.2_18. Tried on a clean Win XP SP3 setup as well.
Any ideas would be welcome.

Satellite 850 - is it possible to i install Win 7 - If yes, how?

I was in a rush to get a laptop for a job and got a Toshiba Satellite 850 which comes with windows 8 pre-installed.
I absolutely detest it and assumed I can simply wipe the whole thing and put on a windows 7.
After reading through lots of advice forums it seems that this machine is built for windows 8 and I can't remove it easily. I am so utterly and totally disappointed.
Is this really the case? Please tell me it's not.
I urgently need a reply as I start work in the morning and I need Win7 installed for work.

You are really a funny guy You blame notebook manufacturer because you are not able to install Win 7?
I assume you are doing this out of ignorance... you are unaware how to do that exactly...
First of ALL notebooks from ALL notebook manufacturers which are preinstalled with Win 8 supports secure boot and UEFI BIOS. These are Microsoft requirements.
Secondly: Its possible to install Windows 7 on all notebooks; no matter which system was preinstalled. But you have to know how to do that...
You said you are owner of Satellite 850. But what series? L, A C??
Now some basic info:
To boot from external sources: CD/DVD drive, USB, etc. you have to disable secure boot and have to change from UEFI to CSM mode.

It seems that you done this thats good.
Keep the SATA option in AHCI mode.
During the Win 7 installation setup, you will be asked to add drivers (SATA drivers)
Download the driver from Toshiba EU page, put it on the USB stick, and add it to the Win 7 installation.
Now the Win 7 should see the HDD and you should be able to install Win 7 on new partition.

S300. Win 8.1 LAN dial

Drivers were updated from this site after win 8.1 setup.
1. Start button turns totally black on mouse moves to it (just after driver installation).
2. Switching VLC Player to High performance mode in the CCC causes its crash on every playback, however with Standard graphics everything's fine.
3. When turning on Camera or wathching video in new MS UI, picture is crazily blinking. I thjought that it was a camera problem, but then experienced the same when watching video. In desktop skype camera is working fine. so it's a video problem for this interface.
4. PPPOE via LAN causes 651 error on first dial. Second dial is OK.
5. After installing win 8.1 in Power options i have to disable Speed startup (or smth called like that) at once, because after few working time it can't shutdown or sleep or reboot without it's forcing with power button. Don't know whether it helps further and this problem will not appear again. But once my laptop gone asleep with option mentioned enabled (by default), voila - no more restarts, shutdowns etc. Helped reinstalling Win, but maybe there's simpler desicion with cleaning some hibernate or other file...
Solved: Installed unsigned drivers... cool. who cares)

Probably best to restore the system to a previous state which was functional, you should be able to do this through the repair options at start up or through safe mode.
Another option would of course be to return the system to it's factory state.

Family Base restrictions not working

We setup a family base account per the instructions and video. The time restrictions seem to be working fine but the list of trusted numbers is not working. Our son is still able to send and receive text messages through his iPhone 4 to anybody unless we specifically block their number on the Verizon account.
We found that even with Family Base restrictions setup, imessage bypasses those restrictions so we turned off imessage on his phone and setup restrictions on his iPhone itself. This stopped him from being able to use the imessage feature of the iPhone but people who are not setup in his trusted numbers are still able to get text messages through. We're frustrated because the family base is not working the way it's supposed to and we're being charge for this "feature."

I'm sorry for any inconvenience with your son's iPhone 4 and the Family Base feature. Upon review of this feature, I see that the child companion app is not compatible with the iPhone device. DI Server + Webservice on Win server 2003

Hello!
I have installed a SBO 2005 system on a win 2003 server setup. This installation includes the DI Server and a webservice that I have developed.
My problem is that I cannot seem to grant the right access to the DI server from the IIS.
I can access my webservice methods, but when the service initializes the DI-server object, it halts leaving me with a "404" error.
Its working nicely on my WinXP PRO machine.
Has anyone any input to this?

The ASP.NET user should exist, but mostly it has another name... But you can also provide an user for the webservice, so it has always the proper rights to run:
- Go to the IIS Manager, and right-click on the folder containing your webservice.
- Choose properties and select the tab/folder 'Directory Security'.
- Click the 'edit' button by 'Authentication and acces control'.
- Check the 'Enable anonymous access' checkbox, and provide a valid username/password, from a user wich has the rights to use SBO (and the di-server).
That's the other way around...

Open it up with WinRar and then go to WDM/common and 64.
Extract this to your desktop and then try to force it in Dev Man.
IF that fails then open up again and go to surrport/64 and use the CTzapxx.
