    Hi Everyone
It’s time for another prize draw…
As it’s social media week this week we’ve been chatting about how much social media has changed our lives – the way we communicate with friends and family via networks like Facebook and Twitter, and how we use online forums like this to get help with products and services!  And it’s really all down to the way that technology has progressed over the years – without these advancements in technology we wouldn’t even be mentioning the words social media!
Let us know how technology has changed your life and you could be in with a chance of winning £50 worth of Amazon vouchers.  It could be the internet…or perhaps it's something like the microwave that has made a big change to your life?   We want to hear your stories...

The way that technology has moved on in the last few years is amazing.  My only regret is that touch screens were not available a few years ago when my elderly mother could have benefited during her last few months in a hospice.  She was unable to move her body or talk and could only rraise a hand and we communicated by making her a screen of words which she was able to communicate to us and ask for what she wanted or if she was in pain.
If I had had a touch screen tablet at that time life would have been so much better.
This is a technology that can help many elderly and disabled people and I would love to be involved in setting up something like this in my community.
I already use computers to help my father shop on the days that he is unable to go out or to help him research something or answer his problems, but to be able to show him on facebook his grandchildren in pictures as they grow up.
My father had family in Canada also that he had never met and my sister was able to use the internet to trace his long lost family and to put closure on his family past and this was an amazing achievement which we could not have done without the technology that we now have.
So whilst we are all racing ahead with the latest gadgets and technology lets not forget that we can use this also to help the elderly and disabled people communicate and make life much easier for them too.

  • WIN a Samsung Tab – Community Prize Draw

    Hi Everyone
Well we’ve got sporting fever here… spurred on by the exciting Record Breakers competition being run across wider BT we wanted to join in with some of the action…
We’re really excited about the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games so decided to run our own Olympic Games themed Prize Draw in the community!  We reckon that communications are going to play a massive part in the London 2012 Olympic Games – the way that athletes and coaches keep in touch, how events are beamed around the world and the different ways people watch/listen or read about the action.  We wonder what the first Olympians would have thought about all these futuristic ways of communicating and keeping people connected?
With that in mind we thought it would be fun to think about what kind of futuristic events could be introduced as a new Olympic sport!  Communications have changed so much over the years, what do you think could change in terms of Olympic events in future?
Share your thoughts with us and you could win a Samsung Tab! This is a great prize so can’t wait to read all your suggestions – remember you need to be in it to win it!
    How to enter
To enter, simply post a reply to this thread answering the question ‘If you could add a new futuristic event into the Olympic Games, what would it be and why?’ And that’s it!

Good to see the links are now there
    Well, if I may.....
Angry Customer - could make some customers happy - bit like angry birds, though we throw an OR engineer or CS rep
BTHH3 discus throw - it's nearly like a discus IMHO - my own personal record = 15 mtrs
BTV weight lifting - guess that by the time it's the all singing and dancing box, it could start to weigh a bit
BTF/O hunt - there must be some working out there, somewhere....
Beat the BT Infrastructure - at times is quicker to chisel a message in stone and personally deliver it
Beat yourself with your handset until you pass out - in some cases it's better than calling CS
Toss the telegraph pole - if they're all taken down, BT'll have to upgrade the lot
That should get the ball rolling

A space-based resource management game, loosely a sequel to the earlier Utopia. You start building your community on an asteroid, whose natural resources must be mined and put to use. You must use generators to power the mines and their auxilliary buildings such as storage facilities, which must be maintained. All of this costs money, but the mined resources can be sold or used.  Problems you face include pollution, collisions with other asteroids, worker discontent and alien unrest. Battles against the aliens indigenous to the area must be fought, making building and maintaining a space fleet a priority.

  • How do I create a simple "prize draw" program?

Hey, I'd like to create a simple "prize draw" program
that randomly selects a name (or number) from a list of names, I'd like it to be my own custom version. For a programmer this is probably the easiest thing but I'm new to programming (beginner), don't eve know if I'm in the right subcategory (flash). Is there a tutorial or something somewhere that you guys think could help me out, please?

Create the list as an array and use the Math methods to randomly pick one of the values from the array.
    var prizeArray = new Array("name1","name2");
    var drawnPrize = prizeArray[Math.floor(Math.random()*prizeArray.length)];
    trace(drawnPrize);
If you don't know if you should be using Flash, then you probably don't want to be looking for help until you figure out what you intend to do for your custom design.

  • WIN £100 Vouchers - Community Competition

    Hi everyone
The first clue in our Spot the Community Manager competition links to a post in the Broadband board so I thought i'd post it here too!  If you can find the post hinted at below, keep a note of the URL, (there's a different one each day Mon-Fri) send them all to me and you could win £100 Amazon Vouchers...
    Here's the first clue:
If you are on the front page of the community and click on the broadband tag you will get a list of posts that have been tagged with the word broadband.  Find the post about broadband dropping when the user switches on their TV… you might spot me there!  This is what you are looking for:
Remember to copy and paste the thread URL and send to me in a private message.

  • From the Community: Tips and Tricks

    Hello,
I believe it makes sense if we have a thread where we post some key tips and tricks we have discovered during our adventures.
The intention is not to post whole applications but solutions to specific issues that might be encountered during the creation of the apps
    Some simple rules:
1 post or reply per tip, Always check if a tip isn't alreay posted
Follow the structure as in the first post: Title, Context, Tip
Avoid replies like "yea cool", "thx for this", etc. This is a functional thread not a discussion.
If someone from the core team could make this sticky it would be highly appreciated
    Regards
    StonyArc
    http://www.stonyarc.com http://www.xboxlivenation.com

    Title
Playing a sound in an OnSelect
    Context
You may have the need to add an audio event to an action.
    Tip
Assuming you start from blank screen
add your sound via App Data / Media (right click for the menu)
add an "Audio" control to you screen (right top cross)
in the "Autostart" of your Audio1 put "bstart" without the quotes
in the OnSelect of the button put
    UpdateContext({bstart:false});UpdateContext({bstart:true})
So far you will then have a button that plays you that sound.
You will have to decide what to do with the action you have behind. If the action is within the same screen you can add directly after the OnSelect of the button.
Most likely you will need to move to another screen and then you should add the action in the OnEnd of your audio control
    Navigate(Screen2,ScreenTransition!Fade)
    Two remarks
You can set the visibility of your Audio1 to "false" (select the audio and go to express view "visible". If you want to select it again and toggle the visibility you can use the control drop down on the top left to select your Audio1
If you have multiple buttons you want to add the sound the safest way is to add a few other players as otherwise the OnEnd will be quite tricky if you just use one. You can safely point the audio control to the same media file but replace the bstart
I mentioned above to "bstart1" for the first, "bstart2" for the second, etc.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.
If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include are
    Take a photo
    Choose from albums
    Search from web
    Delete
That appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

  • Stuck on "activating date and time"...no Apple Support Community "tips" work. Help me.

I have tried all the "tips" on this forum to no avail. I am stuck with my Apple TV on "activating date and time" without end. I have Restarted it, Restored it, hooked it directly to my known-to-be-working moden with an ethercable, I have pressed (on the remote) the Menu and 'back' buttons simultaneously, I have pressed the Menu and 'down' buttons simultaneously, all for 6+ seconds. There are no "broken" chains or "complete" chains in view. Does anyone 'out there' have any productive, step-by-step intsructions???

Being unable to set date and time is a problem most likely caused by being unable to connect to the time server over the internet, it is unlikely to be an issue with the Apple TV. You should probably be looking at your router settings etc, have you tried restarting the router.

  • Cross Platform (win/mac) iPod Communication

Hello. I currently use an iBook G4 to update my ipod. However, sometimes I like to listen to music over my girlfriend's house (she is caring for my cat at the moment). She has a computer with Windows XP. Ideally, I would like to plug my iPod Video into her computer so I can listen to my music while at her place. However, I am unable to do that without formatting my iPod (thus erasing everything on it). I tried setting up my iPod to a FAT32 system (Windows) because I heard that it would still work on my iBook. As soon as I plugged the iPod back to my iBook, however, it asked to be formatted again. Is there any possible way to make my iPod readable by both and writable by my mac? Thank you in advance.

I reformatted the iPod on my girlfriend's computer, then when I received the message to format my iPod (when plugged into my Mac), I got bold and hit "cancel" instead of "Restore."
What do you know? I can now use my iPod on both her computer and mine (for writing and reading). I set up my iPod to manually update so I wouldn't have my library replaced.
    Thank you for the help.
