Win:  photos not recognized in PSE6

I shot 60 photos in NEF. I edited them, saving each as JPEG, copy to Organizer.
They all showed up with '?' in the corner, and were treated as missing files. I deleted all, and imported them again into Organizer. No '?'s now, but PSE6 still treats them as missing files. For example, if I double-click on a photo, it appears as a single, but PSE6 goes off trying to find it! Same if I try to print a photo.
I have a similar problem with all my photos.
This has only happened since I re-installed PSE6 on a new hard drive.
I tried re-booting. Didn't help.
Can you help?
TIA

Most likely your new drive has triggered a PSE 6 bug. To verify, run the utility "psedbtool":

If that is indeed the problem, there is a straightforward fix.

  • IPod Photo not recognized on Windows XP

I bought my Ipod Photo more than a year ago--and I've had numerous problems with it. Before my one-year-limited-warranty expired, Apple replaced my first iPod Photo for a brand new one--the one I have now.
The iPod itself seems to be working fine. However, one day it froze so I had to reset it--losing all of my music. Then I plugged it into my computer, but to my surprise, not one of the songs on my iTunes was transferred to my iPod.
When plugged into the computer, the "Do Not Disconnect" screen appears, and iTunes does open. However, nothing more happens. It seems like iTunes may recognize the iPod for a bit, then that's it.
Please help with me with my problem!

I have had much the same problem. I originally ordered the 40G ipod, and was 'upgraded' to the 60G (this was when the 60G was first released). The thing has NEVER worked properly! When it does connect and upload music, it's OK....until I would try to connect it again to add new stuff. More often than not, it would need to be completely reset, losing everything in memory. Needless to say, I haven't used it much. Now I am planning a trip and wanted to bring along some tunes. I've charged and reset the ipod, I'm running the latest iTunes version, and still nothing. It's not recognized in either windows or iTunes. The best it can do is tell me it needs to be reformatted, but then it just sits there forever saying 'Do Not Disconnect'. I'd love to be able to just get to the point where I could restore or update the software, but that seems impossible.
At this point, I really would like to upgrade to a movie-capable ipod, but my experience so far leaves much to be desired. Any suggestions?

    Hey all -
did a clean install of 10.5 on a MacBook. Archived all my pictures to an external FW drive. When I brought them back onto to the MB, iPhoto '06 would not recognize them as valid files. Is iPhoto 06 valid for 10.5.5? I can open these JPEGS in Preview, Photoshop, etc., but cannot get them recognized by iPhoto06.
    thanks in advance.

How did you do this? Did you quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library to the EHD (this is the proper way)

  • ZEN Sleek photo not recognized tried everything HEL

i bought my zen photo sleek today, the software installed, the device was recognized. I started transferring files which stopped at file 97 and didn't do anything. I clicked cancel which made the tranfer window freeze and not respond anymore. Task manager didn't open so i rebooted my computer. After this the device wasn't recognized anymore. since then i've tried EVERYTHING i could find on this forum but failed. all setting seem to be ok, i reinstalled al the software twice, downloaded the hotfixes etc. nothing works. I mailed customer service and am wiating for a reply, anyone any ideas in the meantime ?

Apologies, I just noticed this was a Sleek Photo, rather than the original Sleek.
I'm guessing the Sleek Photo must be PlayForSure, so for some reason Windows is not picking up the MTP device driver. You can try forcing Windows, through Device Manager, to look in the directory C:\WINDOWS\INF where the MTP driver information is located.
Failing that, have a look at the link "problems with connecting using MTP firmware" in the FAQ post.

  • TS1538 iTunes 10.6.1.7 and Win/Vista Not Recognizing iPhone 4S!!!

I bought my first iPhone which is a 4s two weeks ago, and the latest iTunes did not recognize it, while Win/Vista recognized it on the drop down list and as a camera.  The same iTunes was able to detect iPhone 4 which I bought for my family member.  I then connected iPhone 4s to iTunes under WinXP, and it worked fine, so I was totally confused.  I submitted the question to Apple iTunes Feedback, and did not receive any reply.
I have used iTunes many years with iPod and iTouch, and was happy with it, but this incident changes my perception of Apple completely!
Eventaully, I did more research on the web, and learnt during the iTunes installation, iTunes did not update the device or USB driver for iPhone 4s!!!  It was solved, under Win/Vista, by updating the device driver by pointing to the iTunes directory.  My conclusion is this has to be a bug of the iTunes installation process.
Very disappointed with Apple's lack of response.  I actually planned to switch to use Mac, but this experience or rather Apple's effort to rectify the problem has changed my attitude towards Apple completely.  It is a shame!  Or is this their tactic to encourage Win users to migrate to Apple Mac???

I too have only recently encountered this problem. I have been able to burn disks before but it keeps making all these weird sounds. It might be a hardware problem but the fact that everything else that uses a disk works I doubt it.

  • Photos not recognized and files unreadable

I have iPhoto 5.0.4 and was recently importing some images from a CD burned by a friend. The images all came in fine, but iPhoto started hanging up, so I quite and rebooted.
When I rebooted and started iPhoto again it now says there are no photos. I can see the library in the Finder and I can see the images also. I've tried to add the photos back in using "Add to Library" but iPhoto tells me that the files are unreadable; "they may be an unrecognizable file type or the files may not contain valid data"
Any ideas on how I can get iPhoto to recognize my library again?
    Thanks
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
It seems a data file got corrupt somehow.
You are getting the error message because you are trying to add images to the library that iPhoto thinks are already in the library folder in the Finder.
    Here's what to do.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!
    Lori

  • RAW Photos not recognized

I have a Cannon G2 and recently took some RAW photos for the first time. Unfortunately, my Iphoto 6 doesn't want to recognize and import them, in spite of the camera being on the list as recognizable. I get this error message:
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
Then it lists the file path of each image. If I do a spotlight search for these images, i can see the images themselves in the spotlight window, leading me to believe they aren't corrupt.
Any ideas? I'm going to attempt to bring them in to Photoshop and convert them to JPEG but I'm still curious in that my camera should be allowed to download RAW files to IPhoto6. Thanks in advance.

Ah, but there is a second and much shorter list of cameras for which RAW format is actually supported. I've been dealing with this for an Olympus E-500 and was guided to the same list you saw, which says it's a supported camera. I'm guessing that the statement that RAW support may require additional software is the operative one here, although that was not clear to me.
Adobe Photoshop CS2 supports RAW, for a steep price. Adobe has a public beta of Lightroom, which is free until the release version of the program comes out. It supports your camera's RAW format, but is somewhat slow compared to iPhoto. Apple's Aperture looks to be a great program, but it offers RAW support for the same limited list of cameras as iPhoto. If you go to photography sites such as dpreview.com, you can find discussions of other RAW converters, some of which are free. However, I don't know which of them run on a Mac. (Fortunately, I already had Photoshop.)
Here's the link to the RAW-supported cameras in iPhoto:

  • Changed computers. Now Photos not recognized

I have moved all my files from one computer to another. Everything seems to be working fine. My pictures are in the usual directory in the home directory. I have the latest iPhoto. When I open iPhoto, it does not see the photos. How can I fix this?
I have gone from a MacBook Pro back to PowerBook. Could that be a factor? I had latest iPhoto on the MacBook Pro too.

    Kaveh:
Try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. It very likely that some of the permissions, ownership ,etc have been changed in the move and this will set them right for the new Mac.

  • IPod Photo not recognized

I have a 4th generation iPod Photo.  I am running the newest version of iTunes (11.1.1) on the newest version of OS X (10.8.5).  When I plug the iPod into the USB on the Mac, it will not mount.  First I tried the USB on the wired keyboard.  That didn't work, so I plugged it directly into the tower.  One would think that that would be a sure thing, but noooo.  Therefore, iTunes does not recognize it.  Why?  It worked fine last week.  I've replaced the battery about a month or so ago and everything was fine until now.  Replacing the battery shouldn't have anything to do with this.  Should it?

Yes, it operates just fine when I'm playing any audio.  When I plug the USB into the keyboard, a window pops up on the screen saying that there isn't enough power to run the iPod.  That didn't happen before I replaced the battery.  Then I plugged the USB cable directly into the Mac Pro tower.  Usually, it would either open iTunes and mount or just mount if iTunes is already opened.  This time it just wouldn't mount at all.  The iPod screen showed the red circle with the line through it and said, "Do not disconnect," even though it wasn't mounted.  I went ahead and disconnected it any way.  Nothing happened to the iPod, by the way.
After a while, I tried it again and everything worked perfectly.  I unmounted it and remounted it several times and each time it worked as expected.  I guess the first attempts were just hiccups.
Regarding charging, that's a whole other matter.  I don't use the computer to charge it because I tend to forget that the iPod is plugged in and invariably shut down the Mac.  As we all know, doing that drains the iPod battery.  I always charge it using the wall wart.  Sometimes it will show the battery icon with the lightening bolt and I will leave it plugged in overnight even though the icon sometimes dissappears.  When I start it the next morning, it would show that it didn't charge at all even though it is showing the battery icon with the electric plug.  Other times I would plug in the charger and it would charge quite nicely.  As I said, my 60GB iPod Photo now has a new battery and it is behaving a little differently than it did before.
