Win server 2003 VM guest does not boot up

A little background here: I use this backup software "ShadwProtect" to backup my vm guest on one of my ESXIhost and restored it in another site's ESXI host.
The first time I boot up, I faced an error "Error on boot: "STOP c0000135 unable to locate component csrsrv.dll not found reinstalling the application may fix the problem".
After trying out for days, I figured from forum that there is a conflict in one of the Windows Updates for virtual environment (Source: https://goo.gl/wrssyO) , that KB3045999 caused this problem for them and upon uninstalling this win update, they managed to boot up successfully. For my situation, it was a VM in ESXI and I totally could not boot into normal windows at all. So I bootup using Windows 2003 Recovery CD ISO and managed to get into the CMD. What I did was deleting the problematic KB using CLI.
"C:\Windows\$NTUninstallKB3045999$\spuninst\BATCH spuninst.txt"
This command is to uninstall the KB from the OS itself (Source: How to uninstall a hotfix or Service Pack via the Recovery Console?).
After doing so, I rebooted and it no longer get the error above. But instead, it seems to freeze when loading Windows.
After which I did a chkdsk /r but to no avail, still getting the same freeze.
What I noticed is that I am able to get into normal safe mode, but not Safe Mode with networking or Safe Mode with cmd prompt.
I have tried everything I could but I have run out of ideas.. This is driving me insane!
I have managed to Download the vmdk file from the original site, the file I copied out got an additional "xxx-flat" in it.. the additional flat word.. I have not tried to load the VMDK into my current VM yet..
Is there any advice that I can get myself out of this mess?
Sorry for the long winded story..

> I'm currently using windows 7. So anyways it tells me to shut down. I boot it again and then it only gives me 2 options: startup repair or run windows normally. When i try run windows normally it says "starting windows" but it never boots.
It looks like the Windows OS was muddled up Im not quite sure why but such things happens simply
However, you can try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option. But this will work only, if you didnt format the HDD and didnt delete the HDD recovery partition.
So try to power up the unit, press F8, choose repair my computer and then choose Toshiba recovery.
Note; this will format the currently system partition which means that you will lose the files on the C partition.

  • Toshiba Satellite P870 upgraded to Win 8.1 does not boot

I have a Toshiba Satellite P870 with Win 8 preinstalled. Soon after upgrade to Win 8.1 and basically successful removal of “watermark error” (secure boot activated) the machine stopped booting completely: after pressing the power button ventilator sound
is heard with periodically changing loudness as well as clicking sound from the speakers. The screen stays black. Attempts to start the PC through pressing F2 or zero buttons did not produce any result. Neither did I succeed with recovery discs I created before:
the system simply does not boot from the disk. It looks like I tried all options offered by Microsoft and Toshiba. I would be happy to roll back to factory settings.
Could someone give me hint what to do next?

    Hi,
For the issue, let us know how to remove the “watermark error".
Meanwhile, I would like to confirm if you could access the BIOS.
I suggest you update the BIOS version to test it.
If you want to repair the startup issue, you should use windows 8.1 recovery discs or installation discs.
Meanwhile, if you cannot access the BIOS, it may be caused by hardware, I suggest you contact the Toshiba manufacturer for further help.

  • Satellite A105 WIN XP does not boot or load...

Ok, so my wife's laptop has a boot issue. Model is A105-S4284
The Toshiba/Phoenix screen loads, but does not boot/load XP. It gives a black screen, then sits for a few secs and restarts. it will continue this loop indefinetely as far as I can tell. When this happened, she complained that it has been taking longer for it to boot into XP recently. (Wish she had told me before)
I can get to BIOS system utilites, Boot menu, and can access F8/Win Advanced options boot choices. I have tried the following:
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode w/command prompt
    Last known GCFG
    Disable Auto restart on failure
I have also done a battery pull and unseated the memory, even swapping left/right, and attempted boot from just one mempry module, all with no change.
Apparently her DVD/optical drive is toast (apparently has been) so I can't do a recovery disc, but I did make a recovery USB drive. No dice there either.
What have I not done? Since I can access the adv. opt. menu it seems winXP is still there. most likely she shut it down while XP was installing something, and now there is some type of error in the registry or somewhere, but I can't seem to recall or remember what my next steps would be to gain access to I can try to clean it up and recover.
I would do a complete wipe and start from scratch, but her entire work portfolio is on the HDD and she (foolishly) has not backed it up, at least not recently. Is my best bet to get an outboard drive enclosure and set the jumpers to slave, so I can attempt to recover the data that way?
I'm a bit stubborn, and know my way around a computer, and I refuse to give up and drop it off at the geek squad.
    Please help!

    Satellite A105-S4284
her entire work portfolio is on the HDD
First things first. You should rescue the files.
Remove the hard drive and place it in an enclosure accessible from a desktop via USB.

  • Server does not boot

    Dear Sir
I have use Main Server PowerEdge 1900 with operating system SQL Server 2008 r2 the  main server does not boot after reading all system files a message appear choose recovery mood
1- restore from system image recovery
    2- Command Prompt
i have important data in it and a database runing in the server machine how can i boot the server properly without having any backup.
How can i pick up data from command prompt.

The bad part is that you do not have backups. The good part is that you can recover your data by using a bootable device and copying them to another location.
However, for the DB part, you might want to ask them here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=sqldisasterrecovery&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc

  • Boot failed: solaris server does not boot

    Hi All,
one of my support person who has administrator previlages tried move the contents of root to trash directory, in the middle it got hung, and he had restrted the server.
Now the solaris does not boot. It says
    boot failed
    Enter Filename [platform/sun4v/kernel/sparcv9/unix]
and what ever we enter there it says boot cannot read.
Please suggest some workaround, nearly 200 users are down, actually it is our licnese server.

    Hi,
What you could try is the following :
Boot the system from the solaris cd into single user mode.
Find out what the disk is you need to mount and mount it under /a
After you have done this you can see if you can move back the stuff that was moved from the root directory to the trash.
If that works then you could try and boot again from the disk to see if everything works again.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Does not boot When Back up drive removed

I have a windows Server 2008 R2 Standard server RAID 10 installed.  I  have a non raid drive installed as the backup HD.  The Backup drive is now failing. When I went to switch it with a new one the system does not boot and is asking for
a boot drive.  I have been searching for solutions and cannot find any.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
Could you confirm if your boot volume is on that non-RAID disk (maybe 2 volumes on that disk and one of them is the boot volume)?
At current situation, first please test to connect the failed disk back to the device and see if it will help.
Or you may need to run a boot-up repair with an installation disk.

  • Boot MS-DOS for Win Server 2003 on SunFirex4100

I have installed Win Server 2003 Std edition on SunFire X4100. I would like to boot to DOS using bootdisk. I have a USB floppy drive.
But how can I boot to the bootdisk? Possible? As I bootup the machine, since the floppy drive is externally plug-in, I don't see any options to select the floppy as boot device.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

My experience with PC systems is a little rusty at the moment, but I think I recall a BIOS option that you could select booting from a USB device. What is the DOS program? I formatted some drives with Free DOS recently on a PC, it is available to download as a CD image.

  • Which VMware support Windows 7 as Host and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS

    Folks,
Hello. I need to install PeopleSoft PIA in Windows Server 2003.
Because my laptop is preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium Editon and cannot dual boot multiple Operating systems. I have to install VMware in Host Windows 7 and then install Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS for PIA.
I have installed VMware Server 2.0.2 into Host Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS. Everything works fine for a while. But VMware Server Home Page https://mylaptop:8333/ui cannot display any more.
I have found that Windows 7 is not a supported Host Operating System for VMware Server 2 and strange thing might happen anytime. I found that "VMware Player 3" is fully supported Windows 7 as Host OS but is not supported Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS.
Does any folks know which VMware product support Windows 7 as Host OS and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS ?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
    1.
Ensure the printer is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 and the drivers are up-to-date.
    2.
    Try the following method:
Printers that use ports that do not begin with COM, LPT,
or USB are not redirected in a remote desktop or a terminal services session
    Hope this helps. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Nicholas Li - MSFT
That doesn't apply to Windows 7 Machines. I'm having the same problem as Acer_, I have a RDP Session from a Windows 7 Machine to a Windows XP machine and the local printer was available a few days ago but isn't anymore. The drivers are installed on both PC's
and are compatible with Windows 7.

  • How to install utility or manage Airport extreme base from Win server 2003

I hope that everybody is doing well.
I am currently studying Server Administration and Maintenance. I am running Win server 2003 and soon to use Win server 2008, provided by the school several months ago. I am trying to install the utility for my airport extreme base in the server that I have at home to no avail. I will appreciated if somebody can help me. My options are limited I cannot buy another wireless router and I really need to do this for my studies. My server does connect to the base by the Ethernet but not I cannot manage the router in the server a major problem in the class that starts today. I will really appreciate if somebody can help to solve this issue which may be the other viable option because I cannot buy another computer I truly hope there is another option that does not include having to purchase another router I love my airport extreme base ;-D

In finder, go to - Mac HD, Library, Preferences - drag the folder 'SystemConfiguration' into the trash
    Restart.
Evidently, there were some corrupt files in there which, in my case, made my AP utility sporadically lose both my airport devices. Trashing that folder and the files within, and restarting automatically creates a new fresh system configurations folder. The AP Utility immediately found my hardware with this fix, but only time will tell if this was root cause and be a long-term fix.
    Best of luck.

  • Satellite M30-107 does not boot correctly after Recovery disk usage

    Hi
I've recently got hold of a second hand toshiba Satellite M30-107 laptop, and decided to freshen it up.
I used the toshiba recovery disk, but after doing so the laptop no longer loads windows.
When turned on it shows the Toshiba start up disk for about a second then goes to a blank screen and freezes.
When turned off and on again a screen comes up reporting an error in shutting down and gives the options to start in safe mode etc. but choosing any of the options causes the machine to freeze.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    jt

    Hi
Sounds a little bit like the notebook does not boot due to the Windows software issue
Did you recover the M30 with the original Toshiba recovery CD which was supplied with this M30 unit?
Maybe Im wrong but for me it looks like a wrong recovery CD was used and an image with non compatible drivers was installed
You could try to install the OS from original Microsoft Win XP CD and could check if it would be possible to get the notebook ruining using clean OS.
In such case we ( you and me ;) ) could find out if this issue could be related to the software or hardware.
    Bye

  • Win Server 2003 GPO doesn't apply to Win 8.1 clients

    Hi guys,
Currently all my DCs are running Win Server 2003. Recently I've upgraded a few PCs to Win 8.1 and found out that the GPOs are not applied on them.
I've set the Default Homepage and logon script to map a few drives but when I logged on to the Win 8.1 clients, none of these are being applied. However, when I logged on to Win 7 clients, these policies are being applied.
Appreciate you guys here can help me on this.
    Thanks!!

Windows 8.1 comes with IE11 which can't be configured by the old IE maintenance policies. You would need to use group policy preferences but these were introduced in Windows 2008 so I don't think you can configure IE settings for IE11 from Windows 2003 DC's.
As for the mapping of drives if this is a login script I don't see why this wouldn't work on a windows 8.1 client.
Can you run a gpresult / rsop report on the windows 8 computer and see what policies are being applied / not applied and any errors.

  • KT6V + sempron 2800 does not boot when BIOS saved

    Hi,
I have just bought a new sempron 2800 to be use on a KT6V LSR. I plugget in my KT6V but was not recognised well (but all was working ok with windows). To be recognised, I have flashed with the last bios of MSI my motherboard... and now I have the following problem:
    - I clear CMOS, then boot. It comes ok (processor detected and set a 1200Mhz)
    - Then CMOS has a bad checksum: I enter setup, then load default, save.
    - I reboot: the computer does not boot up.
If I re-clear CMOS I can re-enter setup and modify frequencies or other options. But when I save my modifications, then the computer does not reboot anymore (I have to re-clear cmos again)...
I tried to apply the configuation I found in this thread:
    http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t69536.html
It says that SDRAM must be at 333, FSB at 166 and multiplicator at 12. When applying this settings, it does not boot (the leds indicate that the chipset initialisation (the first step) does not pass).
If I just load biios default, the leds indicates that it fails when checking the memory (second step of boot). I suspect that it's a problem of memory (but my memory was working well before !): it's 2x512 of DDR 400.
Any suggestion is appreciated :D . I spent several hours trying to configure the bios but it does not boot..
(I'll also try to find help on AMD forums...)
(Some extra info: my PSU is 26A for 12V, so it seems that it's not due to the PSU (as I read in the FAQ of this forum).
    Thanks,
    Ptitmain.

  • HP Z620 does not boot when external Seagate hard drive is connected

I'm troubleshooting an HP Z620 workstation with 32GB RAM, one 500GB HDD + one 1TB HDD running Win 7 Enterprise 64 bits, this user has 2 external USB 3.0 HDDs,  one Buffalo 2TB  + one Seagate Desktop Backup Plus 4TB; the problem comes when the external Seagate HDD is connected and the PC is turned one, for some reason the PC does not boots, it shows a message that states "Non-disk or no boot disk error" and sometimes it tries to boot, but then goes thru the "Windows repair option" or "Start Windows normally" routine, none of these results on starting the PC.
The only way this PC starts and works properly is when PC is started with the external Seagate HDD disconnected and then connected once the Win 7 is up and running; the problem described above does not happens with the external Buffalo 2TB HDD and the Seagate HDD have been tested throughly and no errors or problems have been detected on it.
I'll really appreciate your attention to this, as well as your prompt response.

    Hi go9189,
According to your description, you come across the error that User 'guest' does not have permission to run DBCC checkprimaryfile. This issue could happen when the login account doesn't have CREATE DATABASE, CREATE ANY DATABASE,
or ALTER ANY DATABASE permission in SQL Server instance, or that the login account has no access to the mdf and ldf files when attaching database, so SQL Server recognize the login account as a "Guest".
To solve the issue, you could pay attention to the points below.
    1. Ensure that the login account has at least CREATE DATABASE, CREATE ANY DATABASE, or ALTER ANY DATABASE permission. You could grant the fixed server role 'dbcreator' or 'sysadmin' to the login account following the steps below.
    a. Connect to SQL Server instance with the login account which has sysadmin fix server role.
    b. Expand the folder 'Security', right click the login, and select Properties.
    c. In the Server Roles tab, check the checkbox for 'dbcreator' or 'sysadmin'.
    2. Make sure that the the login account has full control permission on the mdf and ldf files. For how to grant the login account with full control permission on the mdf and ldf files, please refer to the steps in the following article:

  • OVM Server 2.1.2 does not prompt for Networking

OVM Server 2.1.2 does not prompt for a network setup (ie DHCP or static IPs).
    - I tried re-installing this several times
This same machine works with native Enterprise Linux 5.2 x86-64 networking.
The motherboard has two onboard Realtek 8111C chips (10/100/1000 Mbit)
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2842
Will setting up networking by hand work with OVM Server 2.1.2?

OK I finaly made my Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller to work.
First install an Ethernet card in your box that OVM supports. This to make the OVM installation run smoothly.
When OVM is up and running follow the steps in [Mini-HOWTO] RPMs needed to compile a kernel-module on / for VM Server to get a working environment to compile modules.
Now get the driver for the unsupported card from ftp://61.56.86.122/cn/nic/r8168-8.008.00.tar.bz2 .
    Unpack the file by running;:
    tar -jxvf r8168-8.008.00.tar.bz2
Now follow the steps in the included readme file to compile and install the driver.
After this I edited the file /etc/modules.conf and changed the line
    alias eth0 xxx
    to
    alias eth0 r8168
I then turned of the machine and removed my temporary network card.
When booted I ran system-config-network to configure the network once more to the original values I entered when I installed.
