Win Setup doesn't read Floppy for Promise Drivers

I have just assembled the parts below.
I have been able to tweak Bios and establish "functional" IDE RAID array.
When I boot up, the floppy led stays lit. Never blinks.
I get full access to Bios, FastTrak 378, and enter Setup.
I hit the "F6" key, and Setup asks for the "manufacturer-supplied hardware support disk."
I insert the disk and hit "enter."
No go. No sound from floppy drive.
Setup immediately repeats request for driver disk.
I have installed PANASONIC floppy and cable from another machine.
Same result, except the floppy is 5 years old, and it sounds like a bad fan, "Whisk, whisk, whisk, etc., etc." But quietly. (Not sure if the Sony was turning silently. ??)
Bios is set to enable onboard FDD controller, seek floppy, and boot from floppy 2nd.
Bad FDD controller? Sure hope not. Haven't even sent for my rebate.

This is my first build from scratch, and 3rd MSI motherboard.
I decided to buy an 865 after I spent some time reading this forum.

near zero.
Buy a very old computer or move to a new application.

The full featured Reader for Windows 8 is Reader XI.
Reader Touch works in all Windows 8 systems BUT it is intended mainly for use in mobile tablets - I see no particular reason to use it unless you can'r run Reader XI. Given it is mainly for use on mobile that can't use Flash, we aren't likely to ever see the development team spending their time on this.
If you want the latest and greatest - at least try Reader XI, not X! (Flash is a separate download, it will prompt).

What is the Reader XI version you installed?
Does this also happen when you open Reader by itself? If not, can you try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

Because Apple did not set it up that way. Email the list to you. The Users Guide says:
View an article in Reader: Tap the Reader button, if it appears in the address field.
Adjust the font size: Tap .
Share the article: Tap .
Note: When you email an article from Reader, the full text of the article is sent, in addition to the link.

Tip for Loading Promise Drivers

I've been working on my new KT6 Delta FIS2R machine and experiencing a real problem regarding the Promise drivers into Windows 98. Whenever I would load the Promise drivers and reboot, Windows 98 would hang in DOS Mode after the Windows Splash went away. As I noted in a previous post, I tried all sortrs of tricks, including copying only the Win 98 drivers onto a floppy and loading from it. Nothing worked. Every time the system hung after loading the Promise drivers, rebooting in Safe Mode would allow me to remove the Promise drivers, but the process always screwed up Windows initiation, and I always had to reformat thge disk and do a fresh install from scratch.
Finally, I decided to do something really different. Instead of just going down the menu of the MSI install disk, starting with the Via 4-in-1 dreivers, going on to the USB's, etc., I tried loading the Promise Drivers before anything else, even the 4-in-1's; and, voila! The Promise drivers loaded and the system reboots fine.
Since I had had some fleeting difficulties, sometimes, loading the Via SATA drivers, I selected that item second, and thgey loaded fine, also.
So, if the Promise drivers are giving you problems after loading, try loading them absolutely first into a new install of Windows.

BTW, I have also been having a problem on the same machine, installing the drivers for a Linksys PCI wireless network card. I would get a error message that one of the DLL's that Linksys provides couldn't be loaded by the application when I clicked on it. So, I installed the Linksys software third; and, everything went fine.
I can't say for sure, but I suspect that all of this relates to some subtle conflicts with the 4-in-1's, which, BTW, loaded fine as the 4th item in the sequence.

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

Bootable floppy for live CD

There are requests booting the live CD with floppy. The codes are suppose to be similar when booting to an existing HD partition with floppy not using LILO.
An example making a normal bootable floppy without LILO:
fdformat /dev/fd0h1440 (formats the floppy disk)
dd if=/boot/vmlinuz of=/dev/fd0 (writes the kernel to the floppy disk)
rdev /dev/fd0 /dev/hda3 (root partition as /dev/hda3)
rdev -R /dev/fd0 1 (mount root file system read-only)
LIve CD replaces the HD, boot floppy needs to mount into CD instead. The problem I am facing, live CD's initrd image (a compressed file "miniroot.gz" 2.6Mb with all basic folders and startup files) doesn't fit on a normal floppy and must be uncompressed into ram memory at boot from the CD. How to do it?

I have searched around internet for floppy bootable live CDs, and found Honung Linux (not live CD but planning to do).
It will not be a Live-CD in that that it will boot directly from the cd.

Actually the Disk2 is some kind of "live floppy". Why not make an "AL Live Floppy" instead of bootable floppy for Live CD only. Moreover, are there any i686 machines what don't have a bootable CD bios?? I think its only an i586 issue... if am correct.
The idea to have a Live Floppy is for dial-up modem users.
FMI, how many MBs is a modem 56k user be willing to download? Minimum 2x floppy image... 2.8Mb each. To run AL with light weight desktop (blackbox or fluxbox) requires to download one CD image. What would be an accepted size to download (MB???).

Change public share access to read only for public and full access to selected users

Hi, new to the community just purchased a recertified WDMyCloud 2TB after my 2 years old MyBookLive 2TB HD died due to accidental power cable unplugging. I've got everything setup including MiniDLNA by following instructions on this forum and everything is working exactly as I want it to except public share. I want public share to be set to read only access for public and full access to certain users (just myself at the moment) and having a "upload" folder within this share with full public access to everything in this folder would be a bonus. I tried login in to ftp with root user and removing write permission for public but that blocks me out as well. I'm sure it's possible by doing some majic on SSH but I wouldn't have a clue so hoping someone here would be able to help me out.

When I start Firefox, my computer slows to a crawl; the problem is that between every operation, the disk reads/writes for about a minute.

I have an old (~6 yrs) HP laptop running Win XP. I've scanned for viruses, deleted temp files, etc, and defraged the hard drive. After doing a fresh boot, all works OK until I start Firefox (3.6.6), and then every mouse click sends the hard drive into read/write mode for up to a minute. Just writing this memo has taken eight minutes; going to my bank site and setting up a transfer (about 12 mouse clicks) took 16 minutes (!).
Things other than Firefox continue to be plagued by the same problems, after starting and closing Firefox. Opening an Explorer window can take up to three minutes. Closing Firefox doesn't seem to solve the problem - I need to reboot to do that.
Any thoughts?

Please advise how or if its even possible to generate a dunning proposal for overdue Promise to Pay items. Currently after debugging I find that the Dunning Proposal filters out any items that are from open promises. Is there a way to generate the dunning proposal for promise to pay items that are overdue? I'm using ECC 6.0 EhP 4.0 PSCD module

Within SPRO there is some config to define a dunning block for a promise to pay. I would suggest you check here.
FSCM >> Collections Management >> Int with AR >> Promise to Pay >> Make settings for Promise to Pay.
If this does not work, I would assume this is because you are using FI-CA and the config is slightly different.

When you open the project, it should ask you where the first file is located. After you tell it where it is, it should be able to find the rest of them if they are located near the first one. Then save the file. If you move the files again, you will have to relink them again.

Setup problem of Entertainment Center for Windows 7.

There is a problem with Creative's Entertainment Center for Sound Blaster X-Fi. In the download section for my SB X-Fi Platinum card, the Entertainment Center setup file is only available for Windows Vista and not for Windows 7. Even if I choose compatible mode for Windows Vista it won't work because in the installation process you'll get an error message when it's almost about to finish all the time at the same spot. It would be great if someone could correct this now because it has been like this for a long time.

Each mode highlights the card's specialities in that area. You have a vitural multi-track mixer in audio creation mode. You have Dolby and DTS encoder/decoder options in entertainment mode, and you have a generic access to the cards other features in gaming mode.

you can connect the iPhone to your mac and import those iPhone photos and videos to iPhoto assuming you have iPhoto. You can create a folder and export all those photos to the Finder. Keep safe somewhere. Also keep the iPhoto library for safe keeping. When you restore your iPhone you can sync all those photos back to the iPhone. so you will lose nothing. Just remember when you export from iPhoto select jpeg for photos and original for videos taken with the iPhone.
