Win users - PQDVD for DVD to iPod works great!

If you're a Windows user, I can vouch that PQDVD works great for DVD to iPoD creation. The program is dirt simple to use, works flawlessly, and rips the DVD content you want fast. It's also very easy to deal with subtitles, alternate languages, etc.
It's just a few simple steps to make an iPod video from a DVD with this software:
1. Insert the DVD.
2. Choose File > Open DVD.
3. Click around in the DVD's menu to set up DVD playback as you like. Select langage, subtitles, specific chapter, whatever.
4. Select a cropping frame for the video from an easy visual menu of 7 different cropping options.
5. Use the video playback controls to queue up the point at which you want to start recording.
6. Click the Record button. The movie plays at a fast-forward speed as it records to the .MP4 file.
7. Click the Stop button when you want to stop recording.
That's it. Perfect .MP4 ready for import into into iTunes.
You can demo/buy the product at http://www.pqdvd.com/

I've been using PSP Movie Creator, which is produced by PQDVD and which seems to have the same core. I purchased this just before they made the iPod Movie Creator public, but that app seems to be again pretty much the same, just with a few aesthetic changes.
It's been ripping 20-minute shows in about 7 minutes each time, direct from DVD to an iPod-compatible MPEG4 file (although I haven't yet got a new iPod to test it with). Admittedly I have quite a powerful machine, with a 3GHz HyperThreaded P4 and 2GB RAM. It ripped a 1-and-a-half hour-movie in about 52minutes.
I had no issues with having my registration code provided to me immediately; I paid using PayPal and then the code was displayed on the website straight after the completion of the transaction, as well as being repeated in a follow-up email.
Sure, you have to pay money for these apps, but having looked at the hodge-podge of multiple freeware applications this certainly seems the most reliable and easy solution. Once the files are output, it's a simple matter to import them into iTunes.
The only problem I've had is with sometimes the audio and picture not being in sync with one another. When that happens, I just close and re-open the app and rip again. That generally solves the problem, or at least minimises the difference between video and sound.

Model A1236 Nano iPod worked great until today. This morning it didn't turn on. Thought it was battery. Charged it but didn't help.  Turned it off & on. Isn't recognized by iTunes or Computer Devices. Now what?

I suggest you take it to Apple and ask them to check it out for you.

  • NSAD user directory for shared services not working

    Hi!
Im trying to configure a MSAD user directory for shared services in Essbase 11.1.2.1. I have done it correctly in Essbase 9.3.1.
Back then i had to import certificates to the cacerts java file. Is it still necesary? I dont see it mentioned anywhere in the v.11 docs, however, its not working using same parameters. I get an error saying i have specified "either host or port value incorrect".
Do i have to import certificates or am i missing anything else, can anybody help?
    Thanks!!
    Jorge

Certificates have nothing to do with MSAD.
when you reach to "MSAD user configuration" tab in Shared Services, try to see if you can auto configure user by inputting: sAMAccountNmae="some user ID", replace some user ID with your or admin ID, and verify if you can pull the users from the MSAD.

  • Fastest option for dvd to ipod

I have read many of the posts for converting DVD to iPod. I noticed someone mentioned it took them 2 hrs to convert using QuickTime Pro which is what I was considering purchasing. As far as speed goes, is Videora faster than using QuickTime Pro? I am looking for the fastest option available under $50. Is it a matter of the program or how much free space my computer actually has to perform the task? Please advise.

    I am looking
for the fastest option available under $50.
Maybe you should try VLC from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ . It's a freeware media player which not only plays any kind of movie format but is also able to stream a movie to e.g. a mpeg4 file. I tried some DivX and mpeg movies. On my 1.6 GHz PC it takes about the half running time of the movie itself to convert it.
You can find a description how to configure VLC for this purpose here:
    http://www.netzwelt.de/news/73065-tutorial-ipodvideos-schneller-erstellen-mit.ht ml
The description is in german but there are some screenshots, so maybe you can handle it also if you don't speak german. By the way, VLC is no DVD player, so if you want do convert a DVD, i think you will have to operate with the .VOB files.

  • User mapping for groups doesn't work

    Hi,
I have a problem with the user mapping for groups. When I select "User Mapping for System Access" I get the error message "There are no systems available for user mapping for the selected principal." There are some hints, what the reason could be, but I think I checked them all. For the single users in the group, the User mapping works without problems. Does anybody know what the reason for this problem could be? We are running SAP EP 7.0.
    Kind regards,
    Dominik

    Hi,
It seems that the system you are pointing to is a delta link linking to "nowhere" and the source system has been deleted.
The main reason for the problem is that the delta link system refers to a system that (no longer) exists.
Try recreating the delta link's base system with the same location in the PCD and correct attributes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Output AC3 for DVD is not working correctly

My FCPX 85 minute project is in 5.1 surround. Plays nice on the timeline and I exported a master file which sounds fine. ProRes with LPCM 5.1 audio.
Now I need to make a DVD standard 480p with Dolby AC3 5.1. But when I output AC3 - either directly from FCPX or sending through Compressor, the channels are incorrect - ie, the audio comes out of the wrong speakers.
No matter how I set up AC3 output from Compressor, the channels are messed up. Any ideas anyone?

Can you post a screen shot of the Dolby DIgital encoder tab with your settingss?

  • My 60 gb Ipod worked great till last night (4/23/06) now... not so much

ok, maybe somebody can help me with this... cause as much as I doubt it, it could be a software issue...
I went to update with the nifty Ipod Updater app. last night and it said that the was a "disk read error, cannot read or write to disk."
then my Ipod (which had worked flawlessly up till that point) displayed the little caution/exclamation point sign. It will display nothing more, the updater app won't do anything with it, itunes doesn't recoginze it. I have gone through every single step on the support page 10 times for all three of my USB ports, and the guy from the Geek Squad at BestBuy just looked at me and shrugged (largely cause I won't be here in a week therefore it is pointless for me to give it to them for fixing).
On the off chance that there is some kind of software fix that I can try, i'd really like to know.

Want to know how Apple will get 20 hours out of their 60GB iPods batteries ?
They'll fill it with music and fully charge it (of course), then get it to play continuously (probably on random/shuffle or something similar) until the battery dies. They'll have the screen off all that time and they simply won't touch it, in an attempt to get the longest time they can.
    ie. it won't simulate real-life use !
Few other things worth mentioning :
    - Battery life whilst playing videos is only 3 hours total, so playing any videos at all is going to make quite a difference
    - The battery life indicator is only a rough guide - it's not accurate
    - Don't get too obsessed with 'calibrating' the battery. Accoring to Apple, this isn't necessary because ""lithium-ion batteries, such as those used in iPod, have none of the memory effects seen in nickel-based rechargeable batteries."

  • I have been using an external mouse on my Macbook Pro.  The mouse worked fine for weeks and still works great on other computers.  My problem is that my notebook stopped recognizing it for no reason.  It is funny this problem started last night. Thanks

I do not know why the notebook stopped recognizing the external mouse.

I just found out that if I restart the notebook and plug in the mouse it will work flawless for a few minutes, but then something recognizes it and it stops working.  I am really fed up with Mac. It is always something.  Safari quits unexpectedly everyother day and asks me to repert the problem, which never goes through.  Safari's beachball also spins uncontrolably for hours until I press the button to force quit. It never allows me to collaborate my email with MAIL, and anytime I want to send an email it goes to an email that claims no valid password when that is clearly not the problem.  I am a proud purchaser of 3 Iphones, Ipad, Ipod nano, and a macbook pro, but I am getting sick to my stomach with this nonsense.  I have wasted a whole day!  When I asked a question last time it asked for money!  Itunes has taken back hundreds of dollars worth of songs that I have purchased, and summoned me for more money in order for me to keep them!   I can't get anything done with this mac!  Where is the customer support!? Counter productive, and I will be voicing my opinion loudly.

  • New VisualHub updater for Lion seems to work great

I downloaded and ran the Visualhub updater for Lion, and converted a .mpg to flash, mpeg-2, h264, and wmv.
Unless I am missing something, we have been given quite a gift.
    Hugh

But iMovie 06 works fine in Lion.
Apple knows that millions of people are still using iMovie 06, (with iDVD11) so continued compatibility is logical.
Thanks for the report.  This is good news!

Every other button works fine and is as it was - except the songs won't actually play. Any ideas? Thank you!

Make sure your iPod is configured to sync these books from under its Book's configuration tab in iTunes.  To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This should bring you to the Summary tab.  Locate the Books tab along the top and click on it.  Under this tab configure your iPod to sync your books however you like.

  • DVD to IPOD -- the easy way (if you have WIN)

I see hundreds of posts on here of people who are having troubles getting their DVD's to their IPODS...and I wonder why.
All I can say, if you are running a Windows PC try using this program:
    http://www.pqdvd.com/dvd-to-ipod-video-converter.html
I am not selling it, I am not getting a bonus from them, I am just saying that I have converted seven of my DVD's using this program, every single one of them have converted 100% perfect...they look great and sound great on the IPOD, and with very high settings (max audio, and beyond max video bit rates) a two hour movie only takes up 1.3GBs of space.

i just downloaded this program, but when i pop in a dvd, it won't open up. do i have to be registered in order for this to work properly?
