WIN -- using edit history in metadata in PSElements 3

I have Elements 3 in windows XP. The metadata box shows an item called "edit history" but there's never anything in it. How do I get it to show the changes I've made to the photo, including slider %, etc, so that when I call up a saved file I can see the exact changes that I've made to the image?

It's all set up at defaults at the moment.
I'm interested in the fact that the Edit History is present in some images and not in others despite the fact that they are variations of each other, sized different or final sharpening etc.
What is the determining factor which triggers saving this data to  metadata?

  • Lost editing history (Metadata?) during file transfer

I had a recent HD failure - luckily everything was backed up, but in transferring backed up data to new disk array I have somehow lost all my editing history. After transferring the files to the new disk, I opened the most recent catalog that was backed up and whilst I can access all the files, none of the old metadata is present.
I have been "fiddling" for a while trying to fix this, I suspect I have made it all worse but I have tried to synchronize folders in Library but to no avail.
Does anyone have a potential solution?
If it helps, I have about 32000+ photo files occupying about 640 GB, MAC OS Snow Leopard.
    thanks in advance

If you have synchronised meta data then you will have over written any meta data in the original catalog. If you wrote out your metat data to file then this shouldn't be a problem but will be if you didn't. You may want to try opening another older back up.

  • Bridge CS4 edit history problem with OS change from XP to 7

I've changed my OS from XP to 7.  After reinstalling software, Bridge CS4 no longer keeps my editing steps in the "edit history" metadata.  The only steps recorded are that I've  saved a file.  I have the edit history box marked in preferences in both Bridge and PS, and have tried changing the metadata section in Preferences to session only, concise, and detailed.  None of those choices make a difference.  Any suggestions on how to get my edit history steps back in the metadata of Bridge?  I use the edit history frequently!  Thanks in advance!

  • Make Edit time and Edit count info available in Loupe Info, grid view option, Edit History panel and Smart Collection

We all know that Lightroom can sort images in grid view by edit time or edit count. I cannot find any way to display edit time and/or edit count in view option or loupe info. I think these should be made viewable. Without them, when you have a large batch of image and you previously edited only some and come back later to finish, you don't know which ones need more work, etc.
Another useful thing is that Edit History should have an option to show the date/time of the edit. It may be shown when mouse is hovered over an edit item line.
Similarly, smart folder can filter the images by Edit Time being before/after a certain date. However, if I have no way of knowing what the edit times and counts are, this feature has little use.
Alll of the above should be a specific date like 08-20-2009 or Today, yesterday, 43 days ago, etc. Both forms are useful for different purposes.

    Good idea.
Also, it would be good if the SDK functions for updating custom metadata did not necessarily bump the edit time.

  • When filtering by keyword and using "Edit In" with Photoshop, edited file does not show up in list

When I do an "edit in" using CS5 and save it, the edited file does not show up in my LR4 preview window.
Message title was edited by: Brett N

There are two distinct modes by which Edit In... may first open an image into PS: as a fully pre-converted rendered file; or as an on-the-fly converted image in memory.
(When LR opens a PS-edited image a second time into PS, using "Edit Original", the former option is always used.)
In the latter case, it is ACR which does this on-the-fly conversion, working from the original image (as imported into LR) plus your subsequent LR adjustment metadata. This means ACR compatibility with LR becomes an issue - as it is not, with the pre-rendered file option.
There is a useful clue to which mode is being used:
the title of the PS document window, in the case of the on-the-fly conversion, still shows the name of the Raw file (or whatever) that you started with in LR... no file has been saved as yet, to say any different. You can Save or Save as, wherever and under whatever name, and from now on LR will look there for your edited image. Or if you close unsaved, LR has no edited image to show at all.
the title of the PS document window in the pre-rendered case, is the name of a file already saved on disk and already showing in LR. If you then saved this elsewhere, you would merely make a duplicate which LR cannot know about - and if this duplicate is the one which contains your PS work, LR will accordingly not show that. It is busy showing the content of the specific file that was passed to PS.
So, if inside CS5 your document is called something like IMG23334.dng - you can save it wherever you like. If inside CS5 your document is called something like IMG23334-edit.tif - you will have to save your changes back to that exact same file, in order for them to be seen in LR.

  • A question about using the history tool after using the extraction tool in photoshop cs3..

    For example:
    http://www.layersmagazine.com/photoshop-...
When I use the history tool, it erases the image instead. Whats up with that?

    G'day Chris
I can't tell from the link exactly which tutorial you mean!
If the original layer is a white background and the snapshot is set to this then the history tool will paint back white even if you then paste or drag an image onto the layer above this.
You would have to take a seperate snapshot of your image layer and set this layer as the snapshot you want the history tool to use before you start working on it.
One neat thing you can do is if you paint back some detail with the history brush you can immediately go to Edit > Fade and fine tune how much of the effect you want to apply.
    Hope this helps.
    regards

  • How to change the colors of the font(file-edit-history)and so on

i have just updated my persona and now i am having difficulty reading the (file-edit history) and so on,also the saved sites in the toolbar. they are currently red and it blends into the persona which makes it difficult to see. thank you in advance. pete

If you have installed a persona then the default text color and background color of the toolbars are defined by that persona.<br />
The colors of the currently selected persona are stored as the first entry in the pref <b>lightweightThemes.usedThemes</b> as textcolor and accentcolor.<br />

How do I get the "File, Edit, History, Bookmarks, Tools & Help Bar to appear on my browser. I also need my "Previous Page & Next Page" arrow... and my "Start" button to appear at the bottom of my screen. I can't navigate without these.

Be sure you are not in Full Screen Mode. The F11 key will toggle Full Screen Mode on or off. If you have no Firefox toolbars, tab bar, etc., you are probably in Full Screen Mode; your Windows Taskbar (with the "Start" button) will also not be visible.
    *See --> http://kb.mozillazine.org/Netbooks#Full_screen
You can choose to use the Menu Bar (''File, Edit, History bookmarks, tools & help'') or the Firefox button menu in Firefox 4 and newer versions.

  • Delete Edit History in File Info?

I did a Save As of a .psd file to a .jpg. How do I avoid (or delete) the edit history metadata in the File Info of the .jpg file? I want to keep this metadata in the .psd file only.

thanx for the info. i noticed that it also deleted metadata that i had added: description, keywords, location data, doc title, and perhaps other data that i did not notice which is a concern. Is there not a way to just delete the edit history metadata from the file?

  • How to edit raw files' metadata directly?

Is it possible to edit raw files' metadata directly?  If so, how?  (I am using Bridge CS6 v5.0.2.4 x64).  In my case, raw files are from Nikon digital cameras, i.e., .NEF.
By directly, I mean the original file is changed, rather than the sidecar .xmp file.
This is necessary under some circumstances where it may be required to prove ownership or origin of a photo.
    Help most appreciated.
    Thank you.

So how do you prove an image is yours?
I did understand the ownerships problem but I also would point to the impossibility of hard proof with current technology.
As said, I put my energy in good clients and for my images that are used on personal websites without my permission I really don't bother.
Don't know where you live and what your country has in its law regarding copyright. I also don't know to what extend you want to go and how much money is involved with your problem.
Never had to do it myself but I heard of several cases in the Netherlands. If you are certain it is your image and it is used without your permission and without paying you there are normal ways to seek justice.
First call the person or company that betrayed you for info and explain, then put this in writing with the request of a reasonable fee. If no luck seek a lawyer for a first letter with warning for extra costs and fine.
If you want (depending on the law in your country but most western countries do respect copyright) you can get it to court. Be sure to have the original raw files at hand (the whole series makes it more believable) and eventually if needed or possible seek witnesses seeing you taking the pictures.
But it can be a long and hard road that is certainly not suitable for a small case. Then again, most of the cases have been decided in favor of the photographer, the company that first refused to pay left with the usual fee to pay including a fine (mostly the same or more as the fee) and having to pay for the costs of the court…
Also keep in mind this is not good advertisement for you as a photographer, especially if the fine is big the word will spread around in the business. It is always problematic in this cases, hence my advise to invest in good clients...

  • Collection not maintained when using Edit in PS

    Hello,
    Using LR 4.1 & PS 5.5
After basic changes to my dng file in LR, I use 'Edit-In' PS to tweek the image.
After saving the tiff in PS and returning to LR, I notice that some metadata is maintained in the new tiff file but it does not copy over the 'collection' from the underyling dng.
Is this by design or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Will

When you round-trip an image to Photoshop, it should end up stacked with the original back in Lightroom. So if the original is in a Collection, the edited version should as well. Collections are not part of an images metadata though. So I'm not sure what is missing if you mean something other than the edited image is not in the Collection.

  • Edit history file

Is there a way to edit history files? I know I can delete them but how can I delete a few from a days history?

    Hi BB,
I am most likely using an earlier version of Safari than you but I'm sure it is the same for Safari 3. Look for the "book" icon in the "Bookmarks bar" and click that (should be on the left side of the bookmarks bar). A new window will open with a "History" selection in the left column (Collections). Select History and then you will be able to selectively delete history pages from the list in the right pane.

  • Edit History in Bridge

I have been looking for a way to link renamed images in files to the original document, which is in a folder with a date and the image itself has the Nikon number (DSCxxxx). When I decide an image is ready to print, I copy it to a print folder on a different drive and rename it so it fits the image. I then lose the connection to the original file location or name.
I noticed today  "Edit History". It is in some of the metadata, which I hadn't noticed before,  but not all images. I placed a stitched image into the Print folder and the Edit data followed, which includes the the original file location and date, plus another line beneath which appears to be a time stamp. This gives basic traceability, which I have been looking for for a while now, except for one thing: Not all images have this history. In fact, some variations on the identical image have none, while others have it.
Assuredly, this isn't random, so what has to happen in prefs or otherwise to assure this history is always recorded and always transmitted? Why do some images, obviously edited and possessing a different ext (tif vs nef). I have prefs pretty consistent, so I don't know what I am doing different from image to image.
Any explanations, or a link to explaining/exploiting this process?
    Thanks!

It's all set up at defaults at the moment.
I'm interested in the fact that the Edit History is present in some images and not in others despite the fact that they are variations of each other, sized different or final sharpening etc.

  • How do i disable a user from editing history

i want to be able to (as administrator on workstations in my small business) disable users from editing history in firefox. this is vital in a business environment. if there is a solution for this please advise. i have windows xp and 7 machines that run firefox as default browser. any help is appreciated.

Hmm.  I am going to speculate looking into pwpolicy (man pwpolicy).  You can get a users policy by using:
    sudo pwpolicy -u username -getpolicy
(replace username with an actual user's shortname)  However, I will admit that I've not attempted to set policy on an individual in a long time.  I do know that in 10.9 any attempts to mess with individual policy bricks the account until you remove the settings.  In 10.8 I have not tried.  10.6 is probably the last time I've explored this (but back then there was a UI for it).
I would suggest a test account or even an entire test server.  You are clearly going off the reservation with this attempt.

  • Retrieve the edits history on iPhoto

Sorry if someone has asked this question before, but I could not found any of the previous questions related to mine.
I need to get back the edits history on iPhoto for a bunch of images. For example, I need to know the saturation values (I can see it on the slider in edit mode), or the crop postions (top left, bottom right, for example, again, I can see it in crop mode) of the crop, etc. Since I saw these parameters in iPhoto edit mode, they must be stored somewhere in the database. However, I haven't found it in any file in iPhoto package (probably in the GUID code in albumdata.xml?). It is very easy to track back in picasa, which all the edits are stored in the .ini file. I know that Apple stores the original and the last modified version in separated folders, namely Original and Modified, but what I need is the parameters that I used before.
Please help! Thank you very much!

    Not directly
What version of iPhoto and of the OS do you have?
In edit mode you can go back one edit at a time and look at the settings - there is no documented way to view those settings without going back to that edit - if you can hack the SQLite database maybe you can
