Win Vista 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit how to back up firefox bookmarks, passwords?

Currently on Vista 32 bit OS. Using FRESH HDD I'm switching to Windows 7 64 bit... Want to back up everything to external hard drive to put on new HDD.
'''''FIREFOX passwords, bookmarks, cookies, maybe even settings?'''''
1) Able to backup 32 bit firefox stuff and restore/copy to Windows 7 64 bit?
2) All locations of files to back up - bookmarks, passwords, ect..)
what process to use to get on new windows 7 64 hdd?
copy files/folders to new location with-in windows 7???
* Know a lot/all(?) app data cannot be used from 32 bit on 64 bit, but there has got to be a way to not lose all my firefox user data (especially bookmarks and passwords!)
Thanks

Even on 64-bit Windows, Firefox is a 32-bit application, so your data will be usable. It is easier if the version is the same on both (e.g., Firefox 3.6 to 3.6, Firefox 5 to 5).

  • Following upgrade to Windows 8, how do I restore Firefox bookmarks?

Microsoft told me my stuff was compatible when I checked before upgrading. All of my bookmarks and most of my desktop are gone. Not to mention most of my programs such as Office !
I had a long list of bookmarks. Is there a way to restore that list?

Doing an upgrade to 8 shouldn't have wiped out your bookmarks<br>
You can find them at ''%APPDATA%/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxxx.default/places.sqlite''
(the x's refer to random characters
If you don't see it there, you can try the below steps:<br>
    1. Make sure you can see hidden files/folders - In Explorer in Windows 8 click on view, then make sure 'Hidden Items' is ticked
    2. Go go to:
    C:\Windows.old\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxx.default\bookmarkbackups <br>
    (x's are random characters)
    3. Copy the most recent .json file to your desktop
    4. Open Firefox then open the bookmarks library (CTRL key + SHIFT key + B '''or''' Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks
    5. Click on Import and Backup, then restore, then 'choose file'. Identify the .json file on your desktop.

  • On windows 7 pro, how do i add firefox bookmarks to the start menu?

On Windows 7 professional, how do I add firefox bookmarks to the start menu so I can access my bookmarks without opening firefox first?

Only Favorites can be displayed as a submenu of the Start Menu. You can convert your Firefox bookmarks to IE favorites as follows:
    # [[Exporting bookmarks to an HTML file|Export your bookmarks to an HTML file]].
    # [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Import-or-export-favorites-in-Internet-Explorer Import the bookmarks in Internet Explorer].
    # In Firefox, install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/plainoldfavorites/ the PlainOldFavorites extension]. This will allow you to create and manage favorites from Firefox.
    # Alternatively, if you use both browsers, you can keep bookmarks and favorites synchronized with an extension like [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/ Xmarks Sync].

  • In windows 8 how do you make the bookmarks column "flexible"? I used to be able to make it narrower.

Windows 8 how do you make the bookmarks column "flexible"?

Is the problem with the Bookmarks Sidebar -- the one you can open and close by pressing Ctrl+b? It does seem to have a minimum width and won't get narrower than that, but I'm not sure whether you are running into that limitation or whether for some reason you are not getting the resizing arrow when you mouse over the thin border between the sidebar and the page.

In windows 7, how do I make firefox start automatically when I turn on the pc

That worked, thanks. When I turn on the pc, I almost always go to the internet before anything else, so this eliminates one step. It doesn't seem to save any time, however, but it is easy. If anyone else wants to try this, it looks like it's very easy to undo if you change your mind.

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:

  • How can I import Firefox bookmarks, now stored in User folder on same (new) PC, into Firefox?

How can I import Firefox bookmarks, now stored in User folder on same (new) PC, into Firefox? I have exported the Firefox bookmarks from my old PC into a [Windows 8] folder on my new PC.
When I use the Firefox import facility, it will only import one bookmark at a time - and then it bookmarks all the main pages on the bookmarked website, not just the one which I originally bookmarked. It also does not import the information stored in the bookmark tag.

    Sure thing.

  • I synced Firefox on my andriod Nexus 4 earlier. Now my laptop is crashed. How do I get back all the bookmarks / passwords?

I have synced my FF with my nexus 4.
Now I have a new laptop (earlier one crashed) with Windows7 Enterprise edition.
How can I get my bookmarks / passwords restored in my laptop?
I have checked the Forum, but there is no straight reply. Please help in restoring the FF.

You will need to get the Sync code from your Android device https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync#w_get-the-code-on-an-android-device
Then enter the code from Android in the desktop set up sync area. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync#w_part-3-connect-your-other-device-to-your-sync-account

  • HP System Recovery DVD incorrectly formats hard drive (WIN Vista HP SP1 64-bit 510141-001)

    HP Pavilion DV4-1225dx
    Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    AMD Turion x2
I had previously posted the issue as "HP System Recovery Fails on new HDD", however it appears that the reason it is failing is due to incorrect formatting of the hard drive:
Went to purchase the oem HDD @ Tiger Direct (Hitachi 0A56415 Travelstar 5K320 Mobile Hard Drive - 2.5", 5400 RPM, SATA 3G, 250GB, 8MB Cache) but found it was out of stock. I purchased the suggested replacement  (WD Blue 320GB Mobile Hard Drive - Designed for everyday computing - 2.5", SATA 3Gb/s, 5400RPM, 8MB C...)
I have attemptted the System Recovery several times each failing with errors. But after each failure the HDD is found to be incorrectly formatted as documented in the following link:

    hp deskjet 6980xi
hp pavilion xt236 / ze4200 WIN XP Media Edition

    Slolearner,
After doing a little research, I believe your issue may be related to your new hard drive being an AF (Advanced Format) drive. Please see "WD Scorpio® Blue™ SATA/PATA Hard Drives", which indicates your WD3200BPVT may an AF drive.
Please see "Cannot Recover the PC after Replacing the Hard Drive with an AF Drive (Windows 7 and Vista)" for information on this subject. While this document isn't for your specific computer, it is generic enough that it applies to your situation. If you wish to use your HP Recovery Discs successfully, you may need to purchase a non-AF drive.
If your computer boots into Windows, please see "Identifying an Advanced Format Hard Drive" to download and run the HP Advanced Format Hard Drive Information tool.
If it is an AF drive, please see "Preparing Advanced Format Hard Drive for Windows" and "Improving the Performance of an Advanced Format Hard Drive" for more information on the subject and possible steps to be taken to resolve your issue.
    Lastly, it may be necessary to follow Paul_Tikkanen's advice and install Windows Vista from a Microsoft Windows Vista installation disc as follows;
    +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
If you can still read the 25 character Microsoft Vista product key on the bottom of your PC, you can make your own plain Vista installation media and use that to at least get the OS on your PC.
Here is how to do that if you can read that key:
Please click on the link below, click on the Windows Reinstallation Guide [27-07-2013] pdf link on the upper left of the page and then read the instructions for doing this starting on page 302.
    http://philipyip.wordpress.com/dell-community-forums/
    +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
You may also consider purchasing a copy of Windows 7 and installing that instead. Windows 7 SP1 has much better support for AF drives than the previous versions of Windows.

  • After upgrading to Windows 7, how do I get the Bookmarks from Windows.old to my present version of Firefox?

I recently upgraded to Windows 7. I have found my Bookmarks in '''Windows.old''', but I can't seem to figure out how to get them into my present version of Firefox. I know this must be possible, so how can I do it?

You can copy the file places.sqlite to the profile folder on the new set up.
The file places.sqlite stores the Firefox bookmarks and the history, so you get both.<br />
If you need other data like passwords then copy those related files as well.

  • My new computer has backed up Firefox bookmark files from my old computer on the new computer's desktop, but I can't open them ; also, how do I get this desktop file into firefox's bookmark list?

My old Vista computer died, but I had backup of my old Firefox .json bookmark files and installed this folder on my new window's 7 computer's desktop. But I can't seem to open these files (windows cant find a program to open them with, and I don't seem to have .json files in my file association list) or import them into the new computer's Firefox bookmarks list.

That's great, matthungo, I'm glad it worked and you've got your Bookmarks back. Wishing you and yours a wonderful and blessed Holiday season as well!

  • How to restore old Firefox bookmarks, cookies, passwords, etc. saved in recovery directory to new install of Firefox?

Used Firefox as my browser. Used a cleaner program. On restart, Windows 7 would not boot fully. System Restore to before installing the cleaner program didn't work.
Used HP backup facility to create back of all files, etc. on my C: drive on an external drive. Used another HP facility to reinstall Windows 7, etc. as if computer just arrived the factory. Moved backed up files to C: drive in a Recovery directory.
Installed Firefox 5.0.1. Can't find and import the Bookmarks, passwords, cookies, etc. that should be in saved Recovery directory. Searched "bookmarks" in Windows 7 facility of my C: - got no results.
