Win XP SP2 - Netgear Wireless Hub - AE

Sorry if this is a repost, there are too many variations on this question to get the exact answer I needed.
I have a PC running WinXP SP2 and I connect to the Internet via a Netgear wireless router. I bought an AE in hopes of using it as a client and having it stream music.
WEP is off and I have a wireless laptop that can access the router, and I have normal connectivity through both machines. When I run the AE Assistant it tells me that wireless networking is not setup. I go through the steps to set it up, and I'm told it's working fine (done both on my PC and wireless-using laptop). I run it again and get the same message.
Neither machine is able to access the AE in any form and my wireless laptop does not see it pop up as a wireless connection. The AE is less than three feet away from all receivers (moving it doesn't matter).
Has anyone encountered this?

] Once configured properly, will I be able to put it back behind my stereo and have it detect my network wirelessly?
As you have already discovered, yes you can do that.

  • Problems with wireless mouse in win xp sp2

I recently installed Windows XP2 in a Bootcamp 3.0 partition on my iMac 27". After installing the Apple drivers from the Mac OSX disk everything seems to work fine except for the Magic Mouse which does not respond at all. A wired USB mouse works fine, and, strangely eonough, when I access the Bootcamp partition through VMWare Fusion 3.0, the Magic Mouse works fine.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing the Apple drivers but that didn't work. When I look in Device Manager in Windows, under Bluetooth Radios, there is a Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator at Location:Apple Wireless Mouse and an Apple Wireless Mouse at Location:0. Could this be causing the conflict? I tried uninstalling the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator but it gets automatically re-installed at the same location when I reboot Windows.
Any suggestions on what I can do?
    Thanks in advance
    Javed Shakoor

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your response. As you advised I set a System Restore point and installed Bootcamp 3.1. After I restarted the computer, the message "Found New Hardware: Apple Wireless Mouse" appeared briefly above the task bar, then it disappeared. The usual message which comes after this, telling you that the new hardware is ready for use, did not appear.
And whats more important, the wireless mouse still refuses to work!
When I go to Bluetooth Devices in the Windows Control Panel, the Apple Wireless Keyboard is shown as connected, but there is a "macbook 1's mouse" in the list which is not shown as connected.
As I said earlier I am still running on Win XP SP2. I am wondering maybe SP2 doesn't work with the new Apple wireless mouse. Do you think I should set another System Restore point and upgrade to SP3?
In the Windows Device Manager, under Bluetooth Radios, there are two devices:
    1. AppleBroadcom Built-in Bluetooth at Location 0 (Bluetooth USB Host Controller}
    2. Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator at Location on Apple Broadcom Built-in Bluetooth
Both these devices are shown as working properly. However, does it seem to you there is a conflict there?
Thanks for your help so far, and apologies for the long list of questions.

  • Win xp cant find wireless network

i purchased an AEBS to use in my home network. I am unable to find the wireless network with 2 of my 4 laptops (all different brands).
I have been able to connect to it via eth and have configured it to a fully open, unencrypted network, and i have changed the channel to a fixed one (since i read somewhere that channel 13 might cause issues with xp).
So far, one windows xp laptop and my macbook pro have been able to find the wireless network (and connect without issues), my two other xp laptops dont even find the network, they do however find surrounding networks so i know their wireless cards are working and are active.
I have installed all the necessary driver updates for both the AEBS and the laptops, but still no luck. I tried every possible combination of 802.11a/b/g and even tried to create a closed SSID, but no luck. I have done multiple hard and soft resets, but no luck.
I cant blame the AEBS since i can find it with 2 laptops, nor can i blame the other 2 laptops since they can find surrounding networks. Can someome please point me in the right direction ?
ps: Win XP SP2 on the 2 'faulty' and the connecting one, Mac OS X 10.4.10 on the mbp.

    Dimitri A.

davgoust, Welcome to the discussion area!
Try changing the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to use channel 1.

  • Installed a wireless canon Pixma MX432 printer back in November for use with my Mac Book Air. All was working normally until this past week when I began getting a message, "printer not connected." What is going on? Netgear Wireless N Router seems to be ok

My new canon Pixma MX432 printer is not printing. It was printing fine until about ten days ago. I use a Netgear Wireless N router, which is also new. What do I need to do. I get a message when trying to print that says "printer not connected." In addition, my old Gateway laptop will still print fine apparently because it has a cable connection to the printer. Puzzled!

Have you tried rebooting the router? I would unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. Be sure you know the password etc. if that doesn't work, try unplugging and rebooting the printer. Good luck!

  • Can some one translate these instructions D-Link DI-524: installation as wireless HUB/Bridge   General  ON ALL TYPES OF ROUTERS DHCP SERVER HAS TO BE DISABLED ON ALL TYPES OF ROUTERS UPnP ALSO HAS TO BE DISABLED OTHERWISE YOU CAN SEVERELY HINDER OTHER USE

    D-Link DI-524: installation as wireless HUB/Bridge
    General
ON ALL TYPES OF ROUTERS DHCP SERVER HAS TO BE DISABLED
ON ALL TYPES OF ROUTERS UPnP ALSO HAS TO BE DISABLED
OTHERWISE YOU CAN SEVERELY HINDER OTHER USERS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD!
    Practical example: D-Link DI-524
The DI-524 is a wireless router.Although the manufacturer doesn't mention this, you can also install this device as a wireless hub.Of course this is not supported by the manufacturer. Therefor you have nowhere to go in case of any problems Plug in the power cord of the DI-524. Do not yet connect the network cable!Search for existing wireless networks with your computer. Connect with the router. This can for example be done like this:
Click the start-button (at the bottom in the left corner of your screen).
    Go to control panel
Go to internet connections (you may have to choose classic representation first)
You can now see your wireless network card, among other things. Right-click and 'View available Wireless networks'.
Connect to the router. In most cases the router will be called 'default'.Check your IP-address: you get an IP address from the DI-524
    Go to the start-button
    Go to 'Run'
    Type 'cmd' and press enter
    type 'ipconfig' and press enter
your IP address starts with 192.
Surf to your router with your regular browser. For this you need the address and a password, which you can find in the documentation.
In this case the address is 192.168.0.1
Now you must secure the router. For this it is best to use WPA-PSK
Your key is a randomly chosen sentence. Don't make this sentence too short.
    Warning: Case sensitive!
You cannot reach the router anymore now.
Go back to your network card via "make connection". Search for your wireless network again and make a new connection
You are asked for a key. Supply this key the way you configured it in your router.
    Surf back to the router.
    Disable the DHCP server.
!! YOU HAVE TO DISABLE UPnP ON ALL TYPES OF ROUTERS
OTHERWISE YOU CAN SEVERELY HINDER OTHER USERS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD!
for this, go to Tools, Misc and switch off UPnP
    Save these settings.
If you do not have a D-link router, look up in the manual or somewhere else where you can disable UPnP
Now you cannot reach the router anymore again.
It is only from this moment that you can connect the router to the modem.
Important: Use one of the 4 LAN ports. Never use the WAN port!
Go to your network card via the control panel. Right-click and "Repair"
Now you should get an IP-address in the range of 10.nnn.nnn.nnn
If you still don't have 192... you've made an error. The DI-524 still functions as a router and this is not allowed!

There are no Mac based instructions. The router is accessed and adjusted the same way whether you are using a Mac OS X, Windows or Linux. As noted in the other post it is done through your web browser which works the same from any computer. Even a Chrome Book.

Thank you for that what I have been trying to do is extend the range of my wifi witha second dilink router. I was hoping for some mac based directions to achive this rather than the PC based as presented. Thank you for your ireply Paul

I would prefer to answer in your post. as I have tried on two occasions to help.. so far this is the first time I can see you stated  you are using Lion.
    1. Did you download and install the 5.6 utility..?
I said to do it.. you never said yes.. I did that.
Please do it. .. you will get no place before you do.
    2. Did you bridge the TC.. ?
If so it will work perfectly.. please post a screen shot of the summary page from the 5.6 utility. If something is wrong I can work it out from there.
    3. Or ring apple support and get them to walk you through the setup.. there should be phone support for the first week or two.

  • Step by step on how to add tc to existing netgear wireless network please

    Hi,
Please can someone give me a step by step on how to achieve a working wireless network with a netgear DGN2000 router providing the network, my TC available for back ups / itunes library & an airport express to connect a usb printer into the network?
    Currently have following:
ADSL Internet connection into Netgear DGN2000 Wireless N Router/Modem
    TC
    Airport Express
    Macbook Pro (running Lion)
    iPad (running OS5)
    iPhone (running OS5)
    Windows 7 laptop (personal)
Windows XP laptop (work - so locked down on installing new software)
    USB Printer
I did have it set up but think went a bit wrong and used TC as creating wireless network - and could no longer use work laptop over VPN - so have reverted back to netgear only.
Please could someone give me / point me towards a blonde friendly step by step on how to set up my network so everyone is happy?!
    Thank you!!

Suggest that you start by configuring hte AirPort Express to "join" the wireless network that is being provided by the Netgear router.
In order to do this, you must provide the AirPort Express with the exact information that it needs to be able to join the network. This includes:
    Name of the wireless network
Exact type of wireless security that the router is using
    Password for the wireless network
I'm sure that you know the name of the wireless network and the password, but do you know the exact type of wireless security setting that the Netgear router is using? You may need to get into the configuration pages for this information.
Hopefully, it will be WPA2 Personal, or WPA/WPA2 Personal, which the AirPort Express can match. If you see something like WPA-PSK-TKIP or WPA-PSK-AES, then things get more complicated, likely requiring some trail and error.
Once you have the wireless security settings in hand, you are ready to follow Apple's step by step setup for the AirPort Express using the AirPort Utility application on your Mac.
When you have the Express configured, you will already know how to setup the TC, since it will be configured exactly the same way with the same information.
This assumes that you want the TC to connect using wireless only.
It would be much easier to setup the TC to connect to the Netgear router using an Ethernet cable. You will be able to backup to the TC using the Netgear wireless network. Can you consider that option?

  • Access a NetFlix account with Samsung TV, Samsung home theatre system w/netgear wireless router

I just want to know what is required to wirelessly access a NetFlix account using my Samsung TV & Samsung home (DVD) theatre system with a Netgear wireless router.

Like previous poster mentioned,  for the Netflix app itself, either use built in NetApp on your tv or get it via Bluray player that has that NetApp .As for connectivity, you'll need to either get an Access Point or the proprietary Wireless LAN Adapter from Samsung. I've got both and I would recommend the AP for multiple port capablity ( more than one Ethernet jack ).

  • Daisy chain isp to MP then out ethernet 2 to wireless hub possible?

    hello
    I have a 2 x 2.66 GHz macPro and am running 10.5.7
I have 2 ethernet ports in the back of my unit.
and I would like to run the internet into port one.
then daisy chain port to to my wireless hub. (a D-link dl-524)
I know this is a little unorthodox
but there seems to be an odd transfer issue when I go the other way (from my d link to my mac first)
and I need a nice clean signal and thought this may be the best way to go.
so any advice on setting within my network prefs?
    thanks

the way I have it now is I have the ethernet going directly into my MP
then what I want is to use my second ethernet port as an out to my d-link so I can
go wireless with the same connection.
I don't want to do it the other way as for some reason it "dirty's" up my signal when I go into
the D-link then into my MP
    does that make sense?

  • PC Suite 4.88 - WIN XP SP2

    Hi,
    I have a Nokia 6310i.
I have downloaded PC Suite 4.88 and tried to install it on a PC with Win XP SP2.
I get an error message saying that the .exe file is corrupted.
I have since been informed that PC Suite 4.88 will not function with Win XP with SP2.
Is this correct, and if so, is there another way to sync the 6310i with my PC ?
    Best regards
    LH Larsen

    Hi Gforce!
Welcome to the Nokia Discussion boards!
Unfortunately PC Suite 4.88 is not compatible at all with Windows XP SP2. However you can use the latest version of PC Suite, 6.6.18, for some of the functions.
With version 6.6.18 you are limited to using the sync function and the backup/restore function.
If you would like more info on PC Suite you can find it here: PC Suite Homepage.
    Cheers

  • 10.4.11 Update conflict with Netgear wireless router

I downloaded the 10.4.11 update, and now I can't access my comcast email. I can surf the internet and access everything else, but when using my Netgear wireless to connect, no email. I can connect and access it elsewhere using other wireless routers. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I hate when people do this and feel bad, but . . . I have a Netgear WPN824v2 and have not had problems with wireless connections and or retrieving mail.
I would not be surprised that the Location profile is damaged in someway since you can connect and function on other wireless networks. This type of problem I have never heard of and it kinda makes no sense. Now if you were completely locked out and couldn't surf, then I would suspect the router. But since you can surf . . .
Try making a whole new Location Profile and see what happens. And/or try to track down any differences in the connection setups for the working wireless' and see that are any differences that the OS upgrade could have changed.

  • IMac, Netgear wireless router & Airport express

I've recently purchase my first apple mac: a iMac G5 and would appreciate some help regarding my wireless set-up. In a nut shell...
I have netgear wireless ADSL router in one room (physically connected to a PC but that's not really relevant). The next nearest wireless 'thing' to this is my iMac. The iMac easily connected to my wireless network and works great.
In another room (nearer the iMac than the netgear router) is my airport express, which I want to stream music to from itunes on the iMac. It works, but is only just in range and the connection drops frequently (so is not suitable for playing music through).
My question really is, (without purchasing further kit - or moving the existing kit around), can the airport card in the iMac be used to extend the range of the network? (it seems to me as if the airport extreme is connecting through the netgear router that's further away rather than the iMac).
Or perhaps, is it possible for me to have the iMac simultaneously connected to 2 networks: 1 connecting it to the netgear router (and therefore the web and the windows PC), and a 2nd network just between the iMac and the airport express (to just steam music).
Any thoughts or help would be gratefully received...
    PS
So far I've dead impressed with the iMac and the software too - it's a chore to come to work and have to use a windows box!)

Dan, Welcome to the discussion area!
...can the airport card in the iMac be used to extend the range of the network?
Sorry, but no that won't work.
Or perhaps, is it possible for me to have the iMac simultaneously connected to 2 networks: 1 connecting it to the netgear router (and therefore the web and the windows PC), and a 2nd network just between the iMac and the airport express (to just steam music).
No, the iMac can not simultaneously be the client of a wireless network and act as a server on a wireless network.

  • Upgraded one iPad to 8.1 about 10 days ago since then have to restart wireless hub each day to use, other iPad on previous os no problem until upgraded yesterday now have the same problem although both devices show wireless connection.

we have two iPads (ipad2 and an iPad mini). The ipad 2 was upgraded to os 8.1 about 10 days ago, since then I have to restart my wireless hub every day to use the ipad. I have however been able to use the iPad mini running on the previous os without any problem. Last night I upgraded the mini to os 8.1 and this now suffers the same problem. Both iPads display a strong wireless signal to my hub but don't want to seem to connect.  I have had BT check my broadband connection and they found no problem, whatever is causing it has happened since upgrading from 8.0.2 to 8.1

Do you have an updated version for your AirPort?
