Win XP upgrade loses keyboard

A few months back I tried to upgrade 1 of our systems to XP it installed fine but would not recognize the key board, as soon as you typed a character the system would hang.
I am ready to try again.
The system is a MW-6340 Ver. 1 board.
The WMinfo program states it has an Award Bios V 6.00 PG.
At this point it is running under ME, but the usb ports do not work. Everything else seems to work fine.
Should I upgrade the bios or downgrade it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated..

  • Qosmio F60 - No additional touchpad and Fn function after Win 8 upgrade

I recently installed Windows 8 on my Qosmio F60 and now I have some issues, I think it might be driver related but not sure which drivers in particular.
    1. The touchpad still works for moving the pointer but swiping along the right edge doesn't scroll anymore, I have had a look on the drivers webpage but cant find which driver I need it install to make this work. Also does anyone know if there is a Windows 8 driver so that i can swipe the edge to bring up the charms and switch tabs?
    2. The FN keys no longer work so i can't control the brightness or the other functions along the top row of the keyboard.
If anyone can help with either of these issues that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Phillip

    Hi
As you can see there are no special Win 8 drivers fro the Qosmio F60 series.
    Its not Win 8 supported.
However, I think you should be able to use the Win 8 upgrade drivers released for Qosmio F750.
    Try it.

  • Toshiba Win 10 Upgrade for P775-S7320

I do not see my computer on the Win 10 upgrade list, and the "Get Windows 10" utility from MS says there are two issues:Toshiba "Common Utility Driver"Toshiba "Toshiba Hardware Setup"The problem is stated as "The appp developers haven't made these apps compatible with Windows 10, so they might not work. Check with the developers for support." (my emphasis).  Another user posted on the forum that they upgraded a "P775" and a couple of things didn't work. My question to Toshiba is will these apps for the P775-S7320 be updated to support Win 10, and if so, when? Thanks,f3 PS: My wife's Portege Z835-P330 is not listed on the Toshiba upgrade list, but the MS "Get Windows 10" utility says it is compatible.

To answer your specifc question the windows 8x version of Hardware Setup works just fine. All the default / native Win10 drivers for this laptop work perfectly well. You do not need any of the bloatware Toshiba Utilties that came OEM installed. There are however two issues. One is a pain but can be fixed with a driver update when running Windows 8.1 before upgrading to Win10.The second is a major useability problem but is so easily fixed should Toshiba / Microsoft decide to do so. Problem1 - Windows 8.1 to 10 BSOD due to atheros wifi driverhttp://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/toshiba-l775laptop-bsod-during-win10-upgrade-due/ff2116f1-9d81-4186-bf5c-5cda52671ce2  Problem 2 - Kbd FN key issuehttp://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/Toggling-Fn-lock/m-p/659502#M19950

  • Reinstalling Windows 7 to New Hard Drive with only the Win 7 Upgrade Disc?

So I have an e9180t which like clockwork freezes up after about an hour or two after booting up.  I thought it might be the curse of the bad motherboards they came with,  but I am hoping it is something else so testing everything I can.  I noticed it does not freeze up when booted in safe mode with networking.  The hard drive did fail the SMART test so I am wondering if it's time to replace it and if that has something to do with the crashing.   I can move cursor,  but no apps will open and eventually everything becomes unresponsive causing be tohit the power button to reboot.   I already stopped all unnecessary start up programs and it still will freeze in non safe mode.
The PC came with Vista and I believe that's what is on the backup partition on the HD.  I do have the Win 7 Upgrade disc from HP.  My questons are-
    1.  If I buy a new HD will the 7 upgrade disc be enough to install full version of Win 7?
    2.  Anything else I need to do when I install new HD besides reactivate Windows?
    Thanks.
    This question was solved.

    Hi Mike,
Did you create an HP recovery disc set for reinstalling the factory image when the HDD is replaced?
It sound like you may have a problem creating the recovery discs now.
A Smart HDD test failure points to a failing HDD. The symptoms you are experiencing are most likely caused by this fact. You may also have a motherboard or other hardware problem.
You have the Win 7 Upgrade disc and product key.
I am fairly sure the Win 7 upgrade has to be initiated from within Win Vista. The Win 7 upgrade is a full install of Windows so that is not the problem. But it may not run setup unless you start the upgrade in Win Vista. Normally a Win 7 upgrade is started within the current operating system, Win 7 setup validates the existence of a qualifying operating system, and then prompts a reboot to finish the upgrade installation.
You can replace the HDD and try to install Win 7 cleanly. If that fails and you don't have the Vista recovery discs you can purchase an HP recovery disc set here. There are three different builds available. Select the one that matches the factory installed operating system.
You may have one other issue upon replacing the HDD with a newer Advanced Format HDD. Please see this HP Support document for more information.
If you cannot install the Win 7 upgrade cleanly or Win Vista because of the Advanced Format HDD issue, you may have to purchase an OEM copy of Win 7.

  • Please help with win 7 upgrade

Hi, I recently bought a desktop (compaq presario cq5110y) and it qualifies for the win 7 upgrade when it releases in Oct. I followed the direcions on the sheet that came with the tower and then I was asked to fax over my receipt on proof of purchase. I got a cover letter that i printed and attempted to fax the info to them multiple times without any luck. So I got on the phone with hp customer support to find out other ways I can send a copy of this information. After being put on hold for 15 min the guy told me to go online and try to find out for myself because he couldnt come up with anything. In the beggining of the call I already told him I looked all over online. Anyway, I just tried hp's online support and every time I click on my product model it fails and sends me to an error page. All I want to do is send a copy of my receipt and proof of purchase. I'm stuck and starting to get pretty frustrated. Does anyone know the address for the upgrade team that I can just send it to? Or their email? Phone number? Anything??

  • Incorrect graphics card info. with regards to win 10 upgrade

Hi trying to register for win 10 upgrade, m/c has radeon hd 3400 card, this shows in device manager, and on specs shown by HP support assistant. The win 10 app, keeps telling me I am incompatible because the Nvidia Geforce 6150se nforce 430 is not supported, which is the onboard graphics. I have uninstalled this nvidia software, and set bios to use the radeon as primary graphics, any ideas pleasethanks

Hi: If you are willing to roll the dice, see if this works... Try the direct download and immediate upgrade method. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 I would think that you can use the W7 32bit nForce 430 chipset driver, that it might work. You may have to manually install the driver if the auto install method doesn't work. W7 32 bit chipset driver... http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14874/en-us While I am not employed by, nor do I represent HP, I can almost guarantee you that no one is going to develop W8.1 or W10 drivers for that chipset or graphics adapter. You would have to roll back to W7 if the above suggestion doesn't work. Here's how to roll back... http://www.askvg.com/how-to-restore-previous-windows-version-after-upgrading-to-windows-10/

  • Amd video drivers not working after win 10 upgrade

AMD video drivers not working after win 10 install. running on microsoft basic driver, call hp smartfriend assistance. appearently there is a fix but hp will not help unless i pay 100.00$ US because the warranty has expired on my notebook.Have a pavilion dv7 was running AMD Mobility Radeon HD5000 series. Thank you hp will not be purchasing an hp product again.  Alienware here i come.

Not much we can do since your model is not supported by Toshiba for Win 10 upgrade according to THIS list so there is no Win 10 driver for your TouchPad. That button, however, is not the only way to disable/enable the TouchPad.  FN+F9 does it and you can fix it where, when you plug in an external mouse, it will automatically be disabled.

II spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?, I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?

Don't attempt to turn it back on.  Remove the battery if you have a user removable battery.  Take the mac to an Apple Store or AASP and expect a very large repair bill.  More times then not, a liquid spill on a keyboard results in a damaged logic board, which usually costs several hundreds of dollars to replace.  Liquid damage is not covered under warranty if you have AppleCare.  Check with your renters/homeowners insurance to see if it may be covered.

  • After win 10 upgrade what to do with win 7 free upgrade disk

Is the windows 7 free upgrade that i got when i bought my l305-s5946 somehow linked with the windows 10 upgrade, or can i use it to upgrade a different toshiba laptop from vista to win 7 with out any problem.any info on this would be helpful. I bought a fixerupper laptop (same model), bought the vista recovery disks and was told that the free win 7 upgrade for that model was no longer available, so, i would realy like to upgrade it to win 7 if possible, with the upgrade that i already have that is not being used now.thanks

Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth)  around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.
    Ciao.

  • Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after Win 8 upgrade - cannot turn WiFi on/off

After many months biding my time I have just embarked upon upgrading my Portege Z930-11G to Windows 8 Pro.
Largely this has gone to plan with the exception that after running the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant I've lost the Fn key display and about half the keys no longer seem to function at all.
The only key I ever used routinely is the Fn+F8 option to turn WiFi on/off.
So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
There must, surely, be a mean to do this but I can't find it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now as I have a wired LAN in the house but once I get out on the road I'm going to struggle without WiFi.
Before running the upgrade assistant the Fn key brought the key display up across the top of the screen and I surely wish I'd turned WiFi on at that point.
The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the ability to do anything other than disable five on screen notifications for keyboard backlight, power plan, touch pad, cursor overlay and numeric overlay.
    All help gratefully received.
    Andrew

    > So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
First of all you can enable and disable the WiFi using function key but you can also enable the WLan in Windows 8 settings
    Win key + C -> Settings -> Change PC settings -> Wireless
Now you can use the wireless devices slider to enable or disable the WLan.
But to get the FN key working you have to install the +Toshiba Function Key Utility+ for Win 8 and +Toshiba System Driver+ for Win 8

  • Win 7 upgrade

On my ideapad s10-3t I am using windows 7 starter at the moment but I would like to upgrade because of the better tablet support. I am in posession of a windows 7 32 bit retail version. What exactly do I have to do during the upgrade if I 1. don't want  to lose my data and 2. don't want to lose the lenovo applications like Natural touch, bump top etc.
When the idapad was shipped, there was no windows cd included. What if I wanted to go back to win 7 starter? Would I have to buy win7 starter again?
I know this is a beginner question but I it would be nice if someone would respond. Thx

I can answer first question and love to know the answer of the second one.
if you run windows setup from windows or choose upgrade during setup , windows wont delete or format anything and your data will remain of their place. and even some of softwares and drivers will continue to functioning as well.also you can find standard softwares in lenovo support page.i suggest that check that site first for natural touch.
if you don't know how to install windows without a DVD drive check this page:
    http://www.lenovos103t.com/2010/03/tip-3-upgrade-windows-and-optimize.html
about the second question, there is a hidden drive on device that contains original windows setup files and lets the user to reinstall windows via onekey recovery function using the onekey recovery button. but I am not sure what will happen to that button if you change the windows. since the button can boot system, I guess changing OS would not affect it's function. but i hope some one says what will happen after changing OS.
