Win XP user name
A newbie's question:
How do I find out what my Win XP user name is from within a Java program?
I need to set a path for a JFileChooser to c:\Documents and Settings\<%user name%>\My Documents.
Thanks.
Oh, and you can also try the System class call to getProperty(), for property named user.name. There is also a property user.home, which should return the user's home directory.
Try those.

Wifi asks for user name under win 7 ?
I have a unibody MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz, everything is working properly under OS X 10.6. I also have win 7 installed, and everything seems fine there also, except when i try to connect to a wireless network, windows asks me for a user name and a password. I do have the password, but i've never had to insert a user name before. I have no idea what the user name is.
The funny thing is that, a few weeks ago my wifi was working properly under win 7, but since I moved to a new location, i haven't been able to connect to that network anymore. In Snow Leopard same wifi works fine. You can't differentiate between subdirectories in Firefox, so even if you would edit the URL then it wouldn't work and you might corrupt the file by doing that.

Win 10 preview didn't make it past User Name during login
I tried the technical preview installation via Windows Update Control Panel. It seemed to be working fine. I made it up to the point where I was going to login after the "Hi....I'm setting up your apps....Let's Start..." screens. It showed
my User Name and Photo, flashed for a second and I saw something that looked like my desktop, and then the screen was blank. I tried several times and was forced to restore Windows 7 (which worked like a charm!)
Would you like my specs?Hello Scott,
Thank you for reply and sorry being late to answer. I used to get notification about reply and this time I had to go search what is going on with my issue.
For the purpose of demonstration I uploaded application without some code and without some pages but login page is there:
login:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn
workspace: WS_BOILER_CERT
userid: [email protected]
password: nevenka
application: 61841 - BO_CERT_TEST_TRAN_SCOTT
On page 101 you can notice process: Set Username Cookie, that I do not know how it came to this page.
You can test login and logout with 2 additional users/passwords: 77777/change1 and 6666/broker2 and you can see that if you login and logout, on next login you have previous user set. If you by some chance have same password for both users then you are transparently logged as previous user not the one that enetered user id.?
I guess error that you may get are not important for this issue, so you can ignore them.
Thank you again and sorry being that late.

Before installing the update to 10.7.3 I could connect to an SMB share on my Mac from Windows 7 but I can't any longer. When I try I get the error "Unknown user name or bad password" on the Windows 7 system.
When I try to connect using the "net use..." command I get the error: "System error 86 has occurred".
Does anyone know how to resolve this? What really confuses me is that it was working fine until I installed the update to 10.7.3.Check the Wins Tab in the Advanced section of Network in system preferences.
If you don't have the same workgroup name and the correct NetBIOS name showing up in the WINS tab you will get the Bad username or password.
I know I deal with this everyday.
There is something wrong with Lion and it does not automatically fill in those entries in the WINS tab.
What I have to do on every reboot/startup is open System preferences go to Sharing and uncheck File Sharing then recheck it. That will fill in the WINS tab entries. -
Using JCom for getting the user name
I am using jcom610-win.exe and weblogic610sp2_win.exe .I need to use the Jcom for getting the user name of the NT Iser Logged in.I have got the process for this on the page at http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/jcomreference/Security.html .But this page uses a method isCallerAuthenticated() from a class file called jcom .I looked into the whole bea directory but there was no class like in the server dir.Can you tell where to get this class from. And if this has not been provided into the jar files that come along with the installable then why is it mentioned in the page @ http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/jcomreference/Security.html
Hi.
You might have better luck posting this in teh jcom newsgroup.

Hi,
We are running a Mountain Lion Server with Open Directory / LDAPv3, as far as I can tell. My responsibility is to get my CentOS 6.3 box running Samba v. 3.5.10-125.el6 to authenticate users against the ML / OD box. I can ssh to the CentOS box OK and I can get Guest access to the Samba share to go OK too. Also, the OD passwords on the LDAP server are set to 'Open Directory' so I guess that means that they are encrypted and the Samba server is set to send encrypted passwords. But when a user tries to properly authenticate using either say via a Mac client Finder [Command-K], or smbclient, the Samba server will generate this message:
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user ['name'] -> ['name'] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
(I am blanking out the user name on purpose).
Of course there is more to the story, but those are the basics.
Here are the relevant parts of my smb.conf. FWIW, the CentOS / Samba box is called Jupiter.
Thank you,
NickZ

Uninstalling the "HP Tools" part of the driver cleared it up. The printer is an HP LJ1300. I had downloaded the full driver from HP.com. I don't know if any/all these conditions need to be matched, but: the printer was on the network using an HP print server JetDirect EX Plus, and the computer(s) in question were connecting directly to it (not via a print server). It's been too long ago, but there were always several errors in the System Log (Win XP Event Viewer) that correlated with the errors on the OS X server.
Proud to say that since that day (10+ months ago) I've not seen it happen again. whew. -
I have seen various threads that you can clear the last logon username by registry or policy but I only want to do it once - i.e. logon as local administrator, do some work and then reset the logon screen so it is blank fresh for user. In XP it was simply
a question of clearing a couple of registry keys - any way to do the same in Win 7 ?
Thanks
Ian Burnell, London (UK)Hi Ian
It isn't clear what exactly you are trying to do?
If you enable the policy to clear the last logon user name, this changes the logon screen to one that does not display any user names. Each user must type their user name and password to log on.
If you disable this policy, then the standard logon screen is displayed with all user names visible. The user is still required to type their password.
It would be very easy to quickly switch this screen using the registry.
Create 2 registry files.
1. DontDisplayLastUserName_Enabled.reg with the following text.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"dontdisplaylastusername"=dword:00000001
2. DontDisplayLastUserName_Disabled.reg with the following text.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"dontdisplaylastusername"=dword:00000000
To switch the logon screen simply Merge the appropriate file.
Hope this helps.
Thank You for using Windows 7

Event ID 1058 Error Code 1326 Logon Failure; unknown user name or bad password
I am attempting to apply a group policy to a group of computers and I will get this event ID and error code generated. I can unc to the gpt.ini file. What can I do to resolve this problem? My structure is like this: I have a 2003
R2 DC located at site A (and this computer WIN7 is also located at site A) and I also have other 2003 DC's located at remote offices (across WAN links). This computer seems to be wanting to apply the GPO from one of the remote office DC's as opposed
to the local DC that is much closer - how can I change how GPO is processed on this computer?I have two Domain Controllers Main ( Main DC Win 2012) and Second DC Win 2008.
the date of some policies is not out of date....
please check these files to know the problem.

Work Folders Stopped Working - The sync server needs the user's current user name and password
Our Work Folders deployment has just stopped working.
Once the user has logged in to ADFS they get the following error message "The sync server needs the user's current user name and password (0x80c80300)"
At the same time we see the following error in the file servers SyncShare event log:

I have attempted re creating the setup using several blog posts including:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2014/03/03/deploying-work-folders-with-ad-fs-and-web-application-proxy-wap.aspx. Including deleting all WAP rules, deleting and recreating the Relaying Party Trust and obtaining new certificates for the file
server.
ADFS and WAP are working correctly for our Office 365 federations and on-premise SharePoint, Exchange and other web applications
If I turn ADFS authentication off on the Work Folders server I can successfully connect and setup work folders on a domain joined computer, however as soon as ADFS authentication is enabled I get the above error.Hi,
As you expressed, it should be an authentication issue.
I assume it will work by selecting Windows Authentication instead of ADFS in step shows in following picture.
The article also mentioned that the certificate is needed in following computers.
The self-signed AD FS certificate will need to be exported and installed on the following machines in the test environment:
Work Folders
Web Application Proxy
Domain joined Windows 8.1 client
Non-domain joined Windows 8.1 client
Thus I would like to confirm if certificate is also imported.

UAC: Predefined user name
I work under a "normal" user account (Win 7 Pro 64; part of a domain). UAC pops-up frequently when installing programs or when I explicitly request administrator rights (run as...).
The dialog is ok, but it is annoying that - apart from the password - I've also got to enter the name of the administrator account ("Administrator") over and over again.
Is it possible to predefine the account name or setup UAC such that the user name is pre-filled with the recent user name, so I just have to enter the password?
Thanks for any tips.Is it possible to predefine the account name or setup UAC such that the user name is pre-filled with the recent user name, so I just have to enter the password?
Hi,
I’m afraid it impossible to realize that.
You can set UAC to “never notify” to disable UAC pop-up.

Dear Support Team,
Every time i tried to logon Icloud its gives me wrong user name or password and at the end it show me error " This Apple ID is valid but is not an ICloud Account" then how can i use one account for same Apple ID and ICloud?
ThanksIt is not possible to create a new iCloud account using a Windows machine. You must create the account using a Mac (10.7.5 or more) or an IOS device (iPhone etc). Once that is done you can sign into and use the account on your Windows machine.
