Win10 install in new VirtualPC VM on Win7 host

Trying to install the Win10 Enterprise preview in a new Virtual PC VM on a Lenovo x220. The host OS is Win7 32bit. I've attached the ISO (WindowsTechnicalPreview-x86-EN-GB.iso) as a virtual dvd. 32bit host, 32bit win10 guest.
The Windows logo appears followed by:
Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button.
Error Code: 0x0000005c
Parameters:
0x00000110
0xFFD01D30
0x00000000
0xC000000D
Any ideas?

VirtualPC doesn't have a configuration option like that. I believe you're referring to VirtualBox. After some further searching it appears that the Windows 8 tech preview didn't support VirtualPC either, probably due to no support for ACPI2.0.
The recommendations are to use Hyper-V which only works under Windows 8. What this of course means is that Microsoft doesn't provide a virtual mechanism under Windows 7 for evaluating their newer operating systems, which seems a strange strategy for trying
to coax Win7 users to newer versions.

  • Photoshop 5 Installed on New Win7 computer missing a library to work

Had purchased Photoshop Elements 5 (don't use Photoshop alot) and when tried to install on new computer after old one crashed has error message that it is missing a library--won't work.  Same as I installed on XP machine.  New machine has Win7 but has an XP option activated.  What's wrong?  Do I need to download something?  Don't use Elements much but like it when I need to edit a photo.  Can't I still use Elements after old XP computer crashed? I don't really want to spend more after buying new machine with Win7Pro and XP Option activated.  Thats why I returned Vista--not compatable with 10K of software.  Any ideas?  Thanks  Bob

Most people find they are able to run photoshop elements 5 on windows 7 without using the xp mode.
Just copy the cd/dvd contents to your hard drive, right click on the installer and choose Run As administrator.
Then install this patch for photoshop elements 5
(yes it says for vista, but it works on windows 7 32 or 64 bit as well)

  • Black/Blank Screen with Boot Camp Win 7 Install on new 27" iMac

I'm having a problem getting Windows 7 on a new 27" iMac and am familiar with the Boot Camp Windows installation process. Here's what I've done...
    1. Run Boot Camp from OSX, partition the drive.
    2. Insert Win 7 cd, proceed with installation.
    3. Computer restarts and the 'preparing for initial setup' message displays with the Win 7 splash screen. When it switches to where it should be displaying the Win 7 desktop, the screen is black.
I can hear the Mac still running, but there's no display. It's like it's waiting for some type of user input for the intial Windows setup (haven't yet entered the key).
I've done a hard shutdown and restarted Windows with the exact same result. After reboot, I get the 'Windows was not shut down properly' message with the 3 safe mode options, where choosing either gets me the 'Windows cannot complete setup in safe mode'. And any key reboots it.
The Mac side still runs fine and holding the option key at start up gives the Mac/Win boot options.
I'm inclined to think that it's a video driver issue since the 27" is brand new. Maybe Apple used a new video card for the larger screen and haven't updated the Boot Camp drivers. I checked on ATI's site for an updated driver for the Radeon HD 4670 they say is in the new 27" model that's currently available. (not the quad core)
Is there any workaround for this? I was thinking of installing Vista instead, and upgrading to Win7 once installed, but if it's a driver thing, it would just be a long way to the same result and could have the same problem with Vista as well.
    Any ideas?

I think I figured out what is happening here with the video drivers on the new iMac's and Win7. I believe it's re-directing the video to the mini display-port output when you see the screen go blank. I installed my Win7 x64 with no issues but I had an external monitor hooked up at the time and while it was installing the O/S my iMac went black but everything moved over to my external screen. Once it finished installing then everything went back to normal after a reboot.
Not sure if that helps anyone but pretty sure that's what is going on. So if you have another monitor handy, get the mini display-port adaptor from Apple and connect your external screen before you install Win7. Cheers!
P.S. If you have one of the new iMac's and want to install the latest Radeon drivers (after you have installed Win7 on your iMac), try the following. Download and install the drivers from ATI/AMD directly. They'll try to install and fail (no worries) but now the driver/install files will be unzipped into an ATI folder on your main Windows hard drive.
Now go to this site: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and download the tool and use the Vista instructions listed on the main page of the URL above. You shouldn't need to download the MSXML 6.0 and I don't think you need to disable the UAC stuff like they suggest for Vista (I didn't) and it works fine. UAC is not nearly as intrusive on Win7 as it is in Vista so I think that's why it worked for me and pretty sure the MSXML 6.0 is already in Win7. Once the program has modified the mobile Radeon drivers then you can run "setup" from your ATI directory and the new drivers will finally install correctly including the Catalyst Control Center. Voila! I now have 9.10 drivers up and running on my new 27" iMac and working perfectly so far.

  • New HP DV6 - NO Win7 Disk blues... I miss DOS 3.03....HELP!!!

    One month old HP DV6-6163cl.
Laptop stopped working. Seems that hard drive is bad, but did my duty and used win7 recover setup to backup my system. And, of course, burned a recover boot cd. Laptop under warranty for almost 2 more years. Called HP support.
Ran HD tests as they wanted and reported error codes. They confirmed HD is bad. So far so good....
I got a cool Momentus XT SATA HD which I can use while waiting for a new HD, so I said I would send in the bad HD and they could send me a free replacement HDD under warranty. They said no.
They want me to send in my entire laptop and be without it for weeks.
I said okay but it wouldn't be until I was going on vacation and didn't need the DV6 for awhile. They said okay.... let them know when I was sending in my laptop.
Now, for the even worst part.
Installed the 500Gb Momentus XT and booted with my HP recovery CD. All seemed to go well until it said it could not do the recovery. Found out, you cannot do Win7 recovery onto a HDD smaller than the original HDD.
How do folks install SSDs??? Yup, with Acronis. So downloaded and installed Acronis on my working laptop(this DV7) and looked to convert my Win7 recovery files, on my external backup 2TB USB drive, into tip files. Now, I had no idea WHICH DV6 Win7 files to convert as i had about a dozen of them with varying dates ranging from BEFORE I even got the dang laptop. Went ahead and converted the latest two recovery files.
But, now when I booted into the Acronis disk and chose either of the two recovery files I converted, it won't let me change the partition size for the anything other than the one listed as SYSTEM, which is a small one. There are two more partitions one of which is about 690Gb... larger than my entire new HDD.
So, then I got a Win7.ISO disk and booted with that. Tried installing Win7 but it won't install without a DVD/CD DRiver for the PC??? What???
Then dragged out one of my dusty WinXP disks, figuring to install XP and then run the Win7 installl, but the XP install blue screens with an ACPI.SYS stop screen.... argh.
I don't think I will ever buy any PC ever again that doesn't come with a set of actual setup/OS disks.
Other than maybe order and pay HP($25) for the actual Recovery DVD, what else can I try.

To the best of my knowledge, the Windows 7 upgrade discs once lost, cannot be ordered again. (Microsft limitation i guess, due to long time since the upgrade program was launched). Hence I think the only option is to have a retail version of Win 7 and install it for your notebook.

  • Error in installing a new Repository in OWB 10g Release 2

    Hi,
I am facing a consistent problem in creating a new repository, even after uninstalling and re-installing the OWB client many times. While creating a repository, I get the following three errors, after which the Repository Assistant automaticlly shuts down:
    1. The wizard noticed that the installation parameter 'enqueue_resources' of the database GRUSIT is set to 968. The recommended value for Warehouse Builder is 3000.
2.The Warehouse Builder repository owner installation failed on user REPOWNER.

    F:\OraHome_1\owb\UnifiedRepos\log_070504_115828.000.log
    for details.
Could you pls help me in resolving this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tanvi

Does this mean, ... we have to install the OWB 64 bit and install a new repository in the 64 bit server? In my opinion you don't need to create new repository.
After migrating database to 64bit perform steps from Metalink note 434272.1 "How To Update Warehouse Builder 10.2 After A Database Cloning".
It is better to save the same path for new OWB 64bit software. If you install OWB into different path you need to update OWBRTPS table with new path to OWB software (look at metalink note 550271.1).

  • My mid-2009 MacBook Pro's hard drive is near death. I want to install a new SSD and work from scratch. Please help.

Recently, my mid-2009 MacBook Pro has been crashing when I close the screen ("it's having a problem recognizing when the screen is closed/open and deciding what to do, error overload etc.").  It wasn't an SMC issue so I took it to an Apple Store, ran some tests, and decided my hard-drive is failing.
Not wanting to spend an insane amount of money on some "official apple hard-drive," I want to install a new 256GB SSD instead.  Hoping to squeeze as much life out of this computer as possible (in January I upgraded from 4 GB RAM to 8 GB), I would like to try and start from scratch, i.e. back-up important folders, music, photos etc. and only take that to the new hard-drive.  If someone could explain all the steps I need to take to safely complete this task (or point me in the direction of a guide) I'd appreciate it.
    Potentially Important info:
         Model:                mid-2009 13'' MacBook Pro
Processor:          2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
         Memory:             4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
         Software:            OS X 10.8.4
    Some additional questions I have...
Should I be concerned with making a fully bootable back-up (not sure what that is called) as well?  If so, what program should I use to create it?
How much more life should I try and push out of this computer?  I'm an engineering student and really only use it for web-surfing, music, and
word-processing.  The batter was replaced in March, the RAM was upgraded to 8 GB in January.  When the battery was swapped, the trackpad went           nuts so that's new too.  Only other issues are a slightly loose audio jack and the left side of the screen being slightly wobbly (hinge is worn I'm told).

Well there is no "official Apple HD / SSD" in any regard, no worries there.
If as you say youre only using same for surfing and word processing, why the need for a SSD? You would not notice any speed diff. in use on either of those,....in boot times yes, but in word or surfing, not.
You can push it likely a few more years, for mere surfing and word processing,...many many years.   Up TO the point that any major fixes become unrealistic relative to getting a new(ER) machine.
Concerned with a boot clone?  yes and no.  Its an ideal immediate recovery, since you cannot boot from Time Machine, ....in case of HD crash, recovery takes seconds from boot, or 20 mins or so from removing old and installing a clone. All the prosumers and pros have at least one updated clone of their prime machines.
You can do a "fresh install" if you choose, however if your current drive is FINE, why not merely clone it and save yourself some headache?...., but that is your prerogative of course.    Ideally 2 drives, one to backup your data (you need that regardless of installing a new drive for sake of a backup/archive,...ideally 2 actually, not merely one).
You could clone internal to NEW SSD/HD , ...then offload unnecessary files to an external to free up space and clutter and run off the clone, and this would only take a couple hours......the clone itself takes approx. 40+ mins.
    CLONE Apps :
Superduper does not clone the recovery partition, but that is NOT necessary if you keep the original HD as a “backup clone”. Most don’t bother with the recovery partition in a clone, however that is your prerogative.

  • I had to install a new hard drive because my old hard drives boot files became corrupted, and i want to get all of my music files off the old hard drive and regain all my play counts/ratings/playlists

    Greetings everyone
as the title says, ive had to install a new hard drive  and i want to transfer my old itunes library onto the new drive, maintaining all playlists/play counts/ratings etc, album artwork if possible. The old hard drive is installed as a slave drive and is completely acessible, but due to the boot files being corrupted i cannot use it as the main drive and therefore operate my old itunes. Also, my ipod no longer contains my music library as itunes synced without my permission and wiped it.
The only thing i have tried is copying all of my old music files from the old drive by selecting 'add folder to library' and then the old drive, then replacing the new itunes library.itl file with the one from my old itunes. This restores all my playlists and playcounts but when i try to play any of the songs it says that the files could not be found, and i dont fancy locating  8500 music files individually!
Thankyou for taking the time to read my post, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ah, my reply was based on the assumption that you had a default installation of iTunes.
i.e you had all your music in the iTunes media folder inside your iTunes folder.
If your iTunes folder is so small compared to the amount of music you have, you must have a different arrangement.
    This complicates you situation considerably.
iTunes can cope with moving around as long as all the music is in the iTunes media folder, not not if it isn't.
Your first step should be to get iTunes working on the old drive. This will involve editing the xml library file so that the drive letter is correct and then rebuilding the library from the xml file.
Then you will need to consolidate your library which moves everything into the iTunes media fodler. After that you will be able to use my first suggestion.
    Step 1
Find the iTunes folder on the old drive and copy the two library files somewhere else so you can find them again. That's iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml.
Now open the copy of iTunes Library.xml with WordPad.
    Look for lines starting:
    Location
These contain the paths to tracks.
You will need to use a find/replace to change the drive letter so that it is correct.
Make sure that you include enough in the "find" so that you only change the right thing.
Maybe /c:/ and replace with /d:/ or whatever.
After that, tell iTunes to use the library on the old drive with a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library. Navigate to the iTunes folder on the old drive and choose iTunes Library.itl.
    Then use the method in the following article to rebuild your library;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Unfortunately the date added will be today for all tracks.
If iTunes works correctly after this, consolidate your library
    File>>Library>>Organize>>consolidate
This copies all tracks into to iTunes media folder and could create a problem if you do not have disk space so don't do it if you are unsure about free disk space.
Check that iTunes works OK and then use the first method.

  • How do i install a new hard drive using time machine

    Hi there
I have purchased a new 1TB hard drive for my Mac book pro (late 2008) model. I have time machine installaed on a seperate hard drive connected with an airport base station. I do not have the orginal snow leapoard/mountain lion OS CD or DVD. Can someone please tell me the exact steps to install the new hard drive .
    Thanks

You haven't inserted your new hard drive yet?.
    There's two ways
    1. install yourself
    2. or pay someone to install it for you.
If you want to do it yourself go to google and type in "install new hard drive for macbook pro". sometimes it makes a difference what model your macbook which is why i won't provide you a link just in case its the wrong one.
    Its very easy.
    1. remove all screws and the lid.
    2. remove screws from the black bracket which is holding your hard drive in place.
    3. unplug your hard drive.
    4. VERY IMPORTANT (A MISTAKE I MADE). make sure that you remove the external screws from your original hard drive as these screws are the one thing that hold and stabilise your hard drive and stop movement from happening.
    5. insert these external screws to your new hard drive (there are four screws)
    6. insert and plug your new hard drive.
    7. screw the black bracket in firmly
    8. attach lid and insert all screws firmly.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.
