Win7-64 Adobe Reader caught by werfault.exe on startup

I have a new Dell i7 system with Win 7-64 and I'm seeing odd behavior with Adobe reader.  It successfully installs but at startup it appears in the process list for a second when werfault.exe shows up and shuts it down without registering an error.  I've have tried multiple times to uninstall, reboot and reinstall Adobe Reader v9.3 with out any difference in behavior.   The event log registers the following application error...
Faulting application name: AcroRd32.exe, version: 9.3.0.148, time stamp: 0x4b309800
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000001
Faulting process id: 0x1784
Faulting application start time: 0x01cb0bfb8ae8e73f
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
Faulting module path: unknown
Has anyone seen this one and has a fix?    The standard unistall, reboot, reinstall doesn't work.   How about other troubleshooting suggestions?

adobe reader  XI "Enable Protected Mode at startup" doesn't work with dragon naturally speaking, how do I download the older version?

Just disable Protected Mode (Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)).
If you do need a previous version: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Keeps asking to open/save the same Adobe Reader X installer file everytime at startup

Tried to update Reader X after Plug-in checker found installed version out of date. Encountered "Download Configuration Failed" error after downloading and executing installer (turns out effing Adobe has known about this problem since mid July but has chosen to continue with providing this installer on their download site). Following Adobe Support instructions, uninstalled Reader and tried again but without success. Finally found another link on Adobe Support for another installer which worked.
However, now when I start up Firefox, a pop-up will appear saying that "You have chosen to open "install_reader10_en_air_mssd_aih.exe" ... would you like to save this file?" (the same bad installer file) even though I have saved it a few times already to try to get rid of the pop-up. This happens at EVERY start-up.

Try using a different web browser. I was having this same problem when I was using Firefox, but then tried it in Opera and it worked like it was supposed to. I guess Adobe was in too much of a rush to release another product that they neglected to make sure it worked...They would get an 'F' in a software engineering course.

  • Unable to open any PDF document in Windream using Adobe Reader (11.0.9)

Our company uses a document management system for storing and archiving important documents. Since updating to the latest version of Adobe Reader (11.0.9) last week, we are unable to open any PDF document using Adobe Reader. An AcroRd32.exe*32 process is launched, but the document will not open or display. Eventually we suffer a system crash. Opening any other PDF document (not stored in the archive management system) using Adobe Reader is fine. Documents can also be opened in the archive management system using Adobe Acrobat.

Try disabling Protected Mode (see Pat's response here: Anyone having problems with the Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 update on Win7 X64?) and see if that helps...

hi jhohn1190, this problem won't be related to javascript which is enabled in firefox by default - this would only apply if you're not able to download the setup file at all. since the error message is referencing missing privileges, please try right-clicking and running the setup as administrator. in case this doesn't help, please contact adobe's support in order to get their product working.
I did what he said and now I get this error message:
"Error 1310. Error writing to file:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\AcroTextExtractor.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory.” Note that
At least this time the sub directories "Adobe\Reader 11.0" exist, but below them is another - empty - directory "Reader", and nothing else. I'd appreciate more help,

  • Problem in installing Adobe Reader X

I wanted to install Adobe Reader X on my notebook(with no internet connection).I copied the Adobe folder from my PC to the notebook and tried to install Adobe Reader X by clicking the related exe file, but it didnt help.
The exe file, which was AcroRd32.exe,when clicked says that "Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to a problem with your system configuration.Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected Mode disabled?".
When I tried to open it with Protected Mode disabled,it gave a fatal error saying that "Acrobat failed to load its Core DLL".
No such error occured with earlier versions of Adobe Reader. There, the exe file automatically started the installation process.
Is it not possible to upgrade my Reader to X from 9.1?
(I saw a similr thread elsewhere but there the error was different and the solution talked of some whitelisting, which I am not aware of)

You cannot use Reader X until it has been installed. Installing means that the appropriate configuration has been entered into the Windows Registry. Copying a folder from another computer doesn't achieve that goal.
Here's what I suggest you do now.
Run this Microsoft fix first of all: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Uninstall via Reader via Add/Remove Programs
Download and install Reader X from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/
P.S. There are some programs which are so called 'Standalone' apps. That means that the executable will run without using a system's processes. But Adobe Reader isn't one of them.

  • Cannot download Adobe Reader. Can't open any pdf files

Hi. I am using google chrome as my browser. i tried to download adobe reader. it downloads the .exe file. i try to run it and i save it. (after saying yes to security). But then it doesn't do anything and I can't download any Adobe products. My flash driver was also removed. I tried to install McAfee and it started doing this. Is there a conflict between McAfee and the Adobe reader?

Download the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    What is "flash driver"?

  • Compatibility of Adobe Reader International Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 with ME/Hebrew versions of 8.1.3 & 8.1.4

At present, I have Adobe Reader Hebrew version AdbeRdr813_he_IL.exe installed, and I use Internet Explorer 6 SP1 in my Windows 2000 Professional SP4 . The menus and interface in all my Windows 2000 Operating System and installed software are US-English, but the specific menus and interface in my Adobe Reader 8.1.3 are in Hebrew.
Adobe website offers for download ME (Hebrew included inside) Update version AdbeRdrUpd814_all_me_incr.msp, whereas Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 are only available as AdbeRdrUpd815_all_incr.msp and AdbeRdrUpd816_all_incr.msp, without explicit mention of Hebrew or Middle-East (ME) languages compatibility.
Is it compatible and adviseable to download and apply these International Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 directly to the basic Adobe Reader Hebrew 8.1.3 , or first install ME 8.1.4, or directly install International Update 8.1.6 onto Hebrew 8.1.3, thus bypassing ME 8.1.4 & 8.1.5?
Alternatively, should I patiently wait till ME/Hebrew versions of Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 will be offered for download by Adobe?
Note that my main interest is in the ability to search text strings in Hebrew and in English in all PDF documents. The menus and interface might be in US-English or in Hebrew as far as I am concerned.

The ME version of Adobe products are not actually Adobe products. Contact the company that makes and supports these products:

As you can see in the screenshot link below on my computer at random time when I make Adobe Reader Maximized the border of the window disappears.
Is this a known bug in the latest release of Adobe Reader?
To test keep hit "Restore Down" and "Maximized" buttons a few times and see if it happens to you.
    I am running Windows 7 64 Bit.
I uninstalled and tghen reinstalled and this keeps happening.

  • Adobe Reader XI fails to launch after Install (Solution)

Earlier this week (5/29), I upgraded to Adobe Reader XI on Windows 7, and I experienced complete failure of the application to launch. Reinstalls were attempted as well as the Adobe Reader cleaning tools, but those processes had no effect. After doing some digging, I found the following error entries in the Windows Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: Eula.exe, version: 11.0.0.379, time stamp: 0x505fc5b0
Faulting module name: nvdxgiwrap.dll, version: 8.17.12.6696, time stamp: 0x4d4a29db
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000282a
    Faulting process id: 0x22f0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01ce5e2f79ed2056
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Eula.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\CoProcManager\nvdxgiwrap.dll
    Report Id: b7a70181-ca22-11e2-a1d5-b9e8c6ec20d2
This was triggered every time the application was started (either by opening a PDF file or manually starting the application). The culprit here is another executable that is apparently being ran by Adobe Reader XI  called Eula.exe. This executable is exactly what you would expect it to be. It displays a End User License Agreement, but apparently does so poorly. To fix the issue, go to the directory indicated in your Windows Event Viewer error message (in the above it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, which is located next to "Faulting application path:" and open the Eula.exe application manually.
Read the EULA, agree to it, and you will be able to open Adobe Reader.

    Hi Inayal,
That message was from May 31, 2013, several months ago. That log entry no longer exists in my eventvwr. However, I did post the specific error message above, which showed me which application the Adobe Reader was trying to launch but failed, and that is how I figured out which application was holding up Adobe Reader. From what I remember, this is the only message that displayed in the eventvwr regarding Adobe Reader.
Yes, I do have an NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA NVS 4200M). Driver version is 9.18.13.1100 (1/10/2013). However, what I believe you're seeing here is an "Access Denied" failure (code 5) which is returned by CreateProcess in the Windows API. The typical cause of an Access Denied failure is not having both read and execute permissions for the directory/executable you are trying to launch. I would check the code where you are calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA (if this is C++, if it's something else, then that function is likely calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA) and make sure you are getting the appropriate elevation to start the application from the Program Files directory. My best guess is that this ShellExecute is running into problems inserted by Windows Vista/7/etc. through a technology called UAC. In order to run this other executable from a system directory (Program Files), you will probably have to ask for "runas" permissions which will prompt the user to elevate your permissions to execute another system executable (this is the user that owns the EULA executable on my machine).
You can read more about User Account Control here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control
Here's an example of using the "runas" verb with ShellExecute to run another executable and prompt the user for permission to execute another System executable:
In a native Win32 application the same "runas" verb can be added to a ShellExecute() or ShellExecuteEx() call.
    ShellExecute(hwnd, "runas", "C:\\Windows\\Notepad.exe", 0, 0, SW_SHOWNORMAL);
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    James

  • What the hell i can not download anything because of my adobe reader

this is what it keeps showing me no matter what i download, what the hell is going on?(Adobe Reader could not open ').exe' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). I am going right thru the website trying to download this ???????????????????????????? I am running a mac os x 10.5 pc & adobe reader 9  I have no idea what i am doing wrong someone anyone please HELP

Probably you need to check your file associations. Probably mistakenly .exe file is associated with Adobe Reader which is meant to open only PDF files and not an .exe. Thus when you download an .exe, due to its association to Adobe Reader, it tries to open it and throws that message. Just search on the net and you will find how to change file associations on MAC.

  • Adobe Reader 9 DMS integration issue

    Hi all
We're trying to deploy Adobe Reader 9 to 1800+ users but having trouble with the integration with our Document Management System (Interwoven) in that the users have to manually open, close then re-open Reader before integration works. We'd like to automate this if possible within the existing batch file. We've tried the following command lines:-
    :: Install Adobe Reader 9
    msiexec /i \\server\share\AdobeReader9\AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS=\\server\share\AdobeReader9\ar9.mst /qb! /norestart ALLUSERS=1 /l*vx C:\AdobeReader9.log
:: Copy IManAcrobatReader.api to the local machine to re-enable Interwoven-integration
    mkdir "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins\Interwoven"
    xcopy /Q /R /Y \\server\share\AdobeReader9\IManAcrobatReader.api "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins\Interwoven"
:: Update NRTDDE.INI to amend path to new Adobe Acrobat executable
    xcopy /Q /R /Y \\server\share\AdobeReader9\NRTDDE.INI "C:\Program Files\Interwoven\WorkSite"
    :: \\server\share\AdobeReader9\subinacl /subkeyreg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe" /grant=everyone=F
:: Open then close Adobe Reader 9 to register Interwoven-integration
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
    taskkill /F /IM AcroRd32.exe /T
Adobe Reader 9 launches ok but will not close, the taskkill process does not appear to run for some reason.
    Any ideas why not please?
    Thanks

    Suggestions? Thanks.

I did another experiment and was able to launch Reader standalone. However, as soon as a document is opened, it crashes. Kinda useless.
After seeing another post about a crash, I turned off Protected mode. Reader works again, although I'd consider this a workaround, not a fix.
