Win7 64-bit, X-Fi, and 4 GB RAM

? I have an X-Fi Elite Pro which I use both for gaming and for home studio work. I run the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Ultimate.
Recently I upgraded my system from an Asus P5NE-SLI motherboard with a Core 2 E6750 and 4 GB RAM to an XFX 750i Extreme motherboard? with a Core 2 Quad Q9505 with 4 GB RAM.
The X-Fi had been completely stable and dependable on the previous nForce 650i-based system; moving to the 750i has introduced the problem of sound corruption in games on the X-Fi. I am using the latest non-beta driver (2.8.003).
After doing some reading online, I found the suggestion to limit Windows? to 3 GB RAM, which worked. Sound is again clean and clear with no distortion.
Is there a status on a driver update that will allow 4 GB (or more) RAM without audio corruption?
Thanks.
--James

Yes Windows does install a generic driver:
Now go to Windows update and let it install the WHQL Creative driver for your card.
Reboot and it should say X-FI instead of High Defintion.......
Try to run Creative's AutoUpdater in your start, programs......Creative, Autoupdate......
Then it should install 2.7.007 from Creative's FTP. If it does not get this:
http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=0933
or this:
http://ccftp.creative.com/manualdn/Drivers/AVP/0933/0x022B9EF/XFTI_PCDRV_LB_2_7_0007.exe
Then install this:
http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=222
or this:
http://ccftp.creative.com/manualdn/Drivers/AVP/222/0x9F697C65/PID_W7PCAPP_US_2__0.exe which fixes autoupdate.
When you reboot and go to use autoupdate it will show you everything available. When they download dont install them. Find the folder where they downloaded to, and find the Dolby and DTS modules and right click them and choose Vista compatibility and Administrator privilege.
Then those will install just fine.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • Memory Leak Issue With Win7 64 bit and Youtube.

    I have a Win7 64 bit using IE9 with version 11.4.402.265 installed. 4 MB installed.
Whenever I go to Youtube or Liveleak, and watch videos, over time it uses up to 4gigs of my memory! Even if I close the window, it does not free up the memory until I Ctrl/Alt/Delete and shut down the window(s).
I normally only keep open 1-2 windows. Google toolbar is about the only thing installed. I can open 5 and more tabs, but as long as the site does not use flash, I don't have issues and each window usually uses under 200k memory watching them in task manager.
When I go to open and watch a youtube video, it slowly climbs to 200k and within an hour, I can be at 2 gigs or more memory and up to 4 gigs within 2 hours (or sometimes much sooner). Closing the window does not release the memory until I end task on it and then after a minute or so, the memory seems to clear and everything is back to normal.
I searched the forums and seems lots of users, report memory leaks, some using yahoo toolbar installed, which is not my case. I do use yahoo as my e-mail address, no idea if that is related or not. I had the same issue when I had the prior Flash version installed, this has been going on for months. Right now having only this window open, using 129, 192 memory. If I open one more window (using the 64 or 32 bit browser) and start youtube, the memory in that window keeps climbing about 50-100kb a second, so it adds up quickly. I have kaspersky running in the background and that is about it other then my nvida driver setup.
Really frustrating that so many people here and across the internet have reported this. I did have IE8 a few weeks ago and still had the same issue, upgraded to IE9 to see if that helped.
Interesting side note, if I pause a video, it slows way down on the memory leak, but still rises at a slower pace. I don't know if this is an IE thing or Flash. I have had this setup since 2009 and don't recall having issues with IE7. I use Youtube so much as a teaching instrument as a music teacher, so constantly have lessons going on it.
Thanks and hope someone has come up with something. I also build computers and have done some programming, so I could modify a file if needed with clear instructions.

On Oracle Metalink site, there are many documents which says that Oracle 32 bit software works on 32 bits OS and 64 bits software works on 64 bits OS. Official support is only in those combination....
So there is no good way to help you in your case-XE is 32 bit application with hard codded compiled libraries which most of them would not work on 64 bit OS.

  • Drivers/Utilities CD..XP and VISTA..can I use vista for WIN7 64 bit install?

Drivers/Utilities CD's, that came with the p-35 Motherboard..XP and VISTA..can I use Vista for WIN7 64 bit install, or download the chip set drivers for Awin7 BEFORE the OS install??
    MSI P-35 Platinum
    Q6600 Core 2 Quad
    Presently XP 32Bit
    NVidia geforce 8600GT
    8GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400-800MHz
    Windows 7..waiting to be installed.
    Hello,
I WANT TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL.I have Windows 32 Home XP, I have the Win7 OEM I want to install.
When i bought my MSI mobo, it came with both the drivers and utilities for XP and Vista.   Can I use the chip set drivers and utilities for Vista, until i can go to MSI and download the latest chip set drivers?  When do i install these drivers....before the OS install, or after?
Can I format these drives first, go in the BIOS change to boot sequence from Raptor Boot Drive to the DVD/Rom to boot the WIN7 from, or should I format while installing Win7?
Someone on another forum suggested that 1) disconnect the two droves, then install the OS on the boot drive, and2) before win7 install, make the proposed boot drive (NOT THE DVD/CD ROM the first choice priority for the boot sequence....is this right?
Is it absolutely necessary to unplug the other two drives, while formatting and installing the WIN7 O.S.?  People tell me that there is a chance of the OS installing sometimes on the other drives.
Also, if I want to change the now present boot drive Local disk letter (C) to my storage drive (G) and the other two drive letters, can I do this in manage disks, anytime, or only during windows setup install?
    Thx

I've never had this much trouble hooking up a HDD.
I have two IDE DVD/CD ROMS.  (My RAID MODE was IDE in XP OS, and still is with WIN7.)
           I have three SATA HDD's.
After unplugging the SATA 2TB HDD while I installed the WIN7 OS on the 500 GB HDD (it was on the 74 RAPTOR, but I moved location, and made absolutly sure nothing went on my raptor)
So today I decided to re-hook up the 2TB Storage HDD, and when I did, I went into bios, and to the cell menu, and LOAD ALL DEFAULT SETTINGS, so it could see my newly installed HDD,which I had all my backup Data from the previous HDD. I also checked and the RAID MODE was IDE, and the boot sequence was the WDC 500GB Boot/OS drive, rebooted, then I got that annoying blanked out screen with that blinking cursor, so I got back into the bios, and changed the 1st boot to the IDE Pioneer DVD/CD ROM, 2nd boot to the 500GB HDD, and rebooted again..still got that blinking cursor.
I opened up the Mobo, checked and replugged all SATA, and power cables to the three HDDS, tried it again, then still got the blinking cursor.  Seems no matter what I change in the boot sequence,it never wants to boot properly
    ....AND THEN,
I started with TAB > POST> started WINDOWS, then once it opened up, I went to manage Disks, saw all three HDDs were online and healthy.  Win. Explorer also listed them in that folder, in device manager, it listed all three too.
     The managed window showed this:
    74GB    (system,active,Primary partition)                       Storage
    2TB     (Primary partition)                                           Excessive Storage
500GB  (Boot, page files,crash-Dump, Primary partition)   Operating system
Both the PCI IDE BusMaster and ON-Chip SATA Controller were both ENABLED.
Before I just got online, I tried RESTART, and it opened Windows the usual way,  so I hope I don't have any more problems. It worked fine BEFORE I just plugged in the 2TB HDD back in.
I pretty much did what everyone suggested, except for leaving in the 74GB Raptor when I installed WIN7, which prompted me to format the drive prior to installing the OS.  Also, when I changed the IDE, RAID,and AHC1, to the AHC1 Mode, just before I installed Window7, like a few suggested, I also had problems, so after the install, I went back and changed it back to IDE.  My Floppy was an IDE, but I removed it from my system, and disabled in BIOS, but even a few times I went into Bios and saw that thje floppy was 1st Boot, even though I changed to either the DVD/CD Rom, or the 500GB boot drive.
So what is the preferred boot sequence?

  • Problems installing plug-ins (and even Adobe updates) to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop.Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

Problems installing plug-ins to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop.  (Same CS5 and plug-ins installed OK several years ago on a Vista laptop.  Now I'm just trying to migrate everything over to the new laptop.) Even some Adobe updates won't install.  Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."   Any solution?

CS5's automatic update mechanism is broken, perhaps because it is no longer updated and can't cope with the newer ways of updating.
So this means you will have make a list of the updates that failed, go here: Product updates
    and manually download/install from there.

  • Urgent help needed related to boot camp and Win7 32 bit

I have installed boot camp and Win7 32 bit on my iMac (2010) but I can't start from my mac os even by holding the option key. Windows doesn't recognize my wireless mouse either, but for now going back to the mac os is the priority. Can anyone help please?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Hold the Option (Alt) key after hearing the startup chime and until you see all bootable partitions in the screen. Do you see the OS X partition? If so, select it to start up in OS X. If you want to start up in OS X by default, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select your OS X partition.
Respecting to your wireless mouse, you have to install the Windows support software. To download it, you can use Windows or OS X, from this site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 If you are in Windows, decompress the file and run the installer. If you are in OS X, follow the steps of the website to burn it to a USB drive

  • I have win7 64 bit, and when I tried installing the new update, it failed.  I tried reinstalling and still no joy. I have attempted this several times. This is first time experiencing this. Is there a fix in the works?

I have Win7 64 bit and when I tried to install the latest I-Tunes update it failed and told me to reinstall. I attempted the reinstall and got the same result. I have attempted this several times already even after following the recommendations from Apple website to correct this problem. I have installed numerous updates for I-Tunes and this is the first one to fail.  Is there a fix in the works from Apple for this? I believe the update is flawed and should be re-evaluated by Apple and this update re-issued with different version #.

  • What is causing software "hangup" and inability to print with Firefox 20.0 on Win7-64 Bit for PC?

Just updated Firefox with Ver.20.0 on a PC running Win7-64 Bit. Since doing this, Firefox seems on occasion to be slow/unresponsive requiring multiple clicks on a button to perform function. More of an issue is the fact that frequently get a message that document will not print since there is no access to printer. After exiting Firefox and then trying to restart program, get a message that Firefox is still running and either shutdown or reboot computer (which does seem to work). Have the same issue with a second PC running WinXP. Printer works fine with other programs, ISPs, etc.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Photosmart C3135 and Win7 32-bit: Nothing happens when application looks for TWAIN scanner

When I attempt to scan a check for my bank or input a picture to Open Office via TWAIN scanner, absolutely NOTHING happens.

On the PC with Win7 64-bit I can print on both sides of the paper, more pages on the same side or booklet.
On the dv6000 I can ONLY print single sided and only on page on the side.
How to fix the dv6000 or adding an additional driver on the 64-bit PC?

    Welcome to the forums helgeknudsen,
I understand you are unable to print on both sides when you print from one of your PC's. I would suggest running the HP Print and Scan Doctor first to see if the tool will correct the issue.
If you are still unable to print on both sides, run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows to ensure the full driver and software are installed.
    Let me know the results!

  • New installation win7 32 bit but cPU high and laptop hot

I've upgraded an Acer from XP to win 7 home premium 32 bit, got an expert to install the drivers, and noticed the system was slow and  the laptop got hot after a short while (30 minutes).  Looked at CPU which varied between 9 and 65%, average about
45%, and while trying to determine the effect of changing from Aero to basic  desktop, got it up to 100%. Removed most gadgets on the desktop.  All to no avail.
Laptop doesn't feel reliable anymore.  Didn't recognise an external drive twice (paging error) and it's generally unhappy.
I saw most of the CPU was being hogged by good old searchfilterhost.exe. I thought that had been resolved with win 7.  I studied the various posts online, unclicked XML file (though it came back), stopped media player shared app, and reduced
the number of files and folders to be indexed.  It began again. Laptop is now faster but remains warm and CPU is still far too high. I let index run in the hope that when it's finished, it will calm down. When it gets hot,  I switch
it off.    Search has now indexed about 30000 files (so has some time to go) but CPU is still high and interestingly, is not really affected by me using the laptop. It almost never reverts back to 0-5%.
I have ESET AV and had windows defender on. (Switched that off to see if it makes a difference). Scanned.  Nothing of note found.
I don't wish to lose my laptop by overheating so am a little worried.  I can disable windows search but I find it really helpful.  Troubleshooter found nothing.
Would love advice.  Posts re this issue tend to be old. My installation is new and I have relatively few apps and prgrammes.  RAM is 3 GB. Slow processor but enough for win 7.
Another laptop with win 7 64 bit is just fine. Searching has been completed though.

    Hi,
    My bad. Apologize.
Windows search(searchfilterhost.exe) sometimes would take the CPU at a high usage, older posts suggested to disable it or change the start type to manually, or rebuild the indexing, which seems not to be so good as a workaround. And some
folks don't have the high CPU usage regarding Windows search with a clean install, compared with upgrade install from Windows vista to Windows 7.
Before going further,  could we take a high CPU usage Capture in order to determine the causes? follow this:
Note: WPT is a tool which we need to install first.
WPT: WPR/Xperf: Capture high cpu, disk i/o,
file, registry, networking, Private bytes, Virtual bytes, Paged Pool/Nonpaged pool and/or application slowness.
Also please take a capture using process monitor(Also a troubleshooting tool):
    Troubleshooting with Process Monitor
If possible please upload the results into skydrive and post the link here.
    Thank you.
