Win7 "Available Networks" list on logon screen???

Hello. I have an A215-S7422 Satellite running Windows 7. A friend of mine just bought a new Toshiba Satellite (not sure what model, but less than two years old).
The other day I was checking out the newer laptop and noticed that the Windows (not a NIC/WNIC adaptor software version) Network Connection Manager (normally visible by left clicking once on the wireless/wired LAN icon in the system tray) displays on the logon screen before logging in as well as when resuming after a display timeout. I thought this was really handy and searched the preferences to try and figure out how to activate this feature, searched Google, searched and asked Microsoft, and am left to come to Toshiba for help as no one seems to have any info on this ability anywhere else.
I have the latest drivers direct from Toshiba installed for my network adaptors and have been all through the standard Network and Sharing Center options in hopes of finding this capability, but am either overlooking it or it does not seem to be there.
I have installed ConfigFree as well as any other software and hardware pack on the Toshiba site for my machine and OS but none of them seem to enable the function.
Can someone please let me know how this feature is turned on or setup so that I can have my available networks and network connections shown on the logon screen? Also please let me know how to disable this same feature, if it is done differently then enabling it, as my friend actually doesn't want it displayed on the logon screen at all.
Thank you for your help.
Tre

I understand that this is not "Toshiba" but the site is through the Toshiba site which means that Toshiba users will be here, and that is what I thought was needed but, after seeing your reply and dedicting some new search time, as well as looking into startup scripts and task scheduler settings, it looks as if I need to head back to Microsoft because I now have the command I need but cant get it to work in either gpedit.msc nor task scheduler during startup, but the command does work in "Run..." as well as at the CMD prompt when I am logged in.
I am using W7 Ultimate so I definitely have gpedit.msc.
As for single sign-on, I do not know for sure but it doesn't seem to have any bearing on this particular idea from what I have read so far. I used your reference of the group policy editor to look for more info and after changing a word or two in my seasrch, finally started seeing a couple of results that looked optimistic.
For anyone who views this later in search of the same capability, the command to manually open the Network Status Popup is "rundll32.exe van.dll,RunVAN". If you input this into the run box or a CMD line, the popup will open.
If I find more info, I will post, and Jerry... thank you for pointing me in a better starting direction then I was originally going... much help indeed! If you know how to make this command work at the logon screen, please do tell.

  • Limiting available networks listed in airport menu

Where we live there are many many wireless networks. What bothers me is that all these networks are listed in the airport menu bar. Is there any way to get rid of these so I can easily reach the two networks that we use, without doing all that scrolling thru the others?
    Thanks a bunch!

I think I misunderstood your post - (and I'm assuming you're not riding piggy-back on someone else's bandwidth).
Is there any way to get rid of these so I can easily reach the two networks that we use, without doing all that scrolling thru the others?
The short answer is no. However, if you choose a particular network, Airport will remember your selection and automatically join it the next time you boot up and are in range of that network. So the problem of having to choose a network from a long list does not arise.
Of course, if you don't want to join your last connected network then you would have to scroll through the available networks and choose accordingly.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

  • Changing network password...There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request in Windows 8 and 8.1 Enterprise

We currently are running Windows 7 in our enterprise environment. Everything works as expected when the user tries to
change their network password via crtl+alt+del, change a password. We are now testing and trying to deploy Windows 8.1 to a test group and are running into an issue when any AD user tries to change their network password. The user can logon to the
PC just fine when the PC is on the domain, however as soon as they go to change their password they are getting the error "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request". The end result is that the user can not change
their password. We tried this via connected to the dock with a network cable, on corporate wireless, with a Windows 8.1 machine completely patched over with all Microsoft patches, and a Windows 8.1 machine that is not patched and are running into the same
issue. Has anyone ran into this? Is there something that has to be changed on the infrastructure side?

To configure the Password Replication Policy for an RODC, a member of the Domain Admins group is required.
By default, RODC's do not cache any user or computer passwords, neither a user or computer will be able to authenticate. You can however specifiy that their passwords be cached either by including a group or specific user in the Password Replication Policy

  • Finger Print reader does not link to Win7 Logon Screen

    Win7 Ultimate 64 bit
    FingerPrint software 5.9.4
Biometric link to windows Logon accepted
    MS Server domain client
At system boot, the logon screen appears and the fingerprint light is "on". I scan my finger, the light blinks once and no submission of the saved Windows password to the logon window. I must key in password.
Lenovo support asked me to uninstall software, BIOS clear saved finger prints then re-install (and re-register). I have done this twice with no change.
This was working until I had to break the domain connection (server change) and re connect to the domain with the same logon/password. It was at this time that the finger print reader stopped passing the biometric password to the OS.
Any thoughts on how to re-connect reader to logon?

I am using 5.9.4 with no problem, although I seem to recall having to go into the Fingerprint software and make some innocuous setting change, then change it back.  But I was changing a lot of things at the time and don't know for sure if that had any effect.
Are you able to log onto the domain by manually entering your password?  If not, may need to re-add the computer to the domain.

  • [network]-guest appears in list of available networks

the wowway helped set up linksys router after installing internet service today. i've just noticed that, in addition to that network, available networks also shows [network]-guest. this guest network also says unsecured. i am connected to [network] and it's secured. how can i get rid of the guest network? how did this happen? was something done incorrectly?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think your router supports a Guest network. It may appear as an unsecured network because it doesn’t show the protected/locked image, but it’s actually secured using a different security scheme. Disabling the Guest network depends on the router you are using.
For routers using Linksys Connect software:
Open the Linksys Connect software, click Guest access, select no under Allow guest accessand then click Finish.
For instructions on disabling the Guest network using the web-based setup page:
Access the web-based setup page, click Wireless then click Guest Access, select no and then click Save Settings.
To disable Guest Access through Linksys Smart Wi-Fi:
Log in to your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account, click the Guest Access Toolthen set the toggle button to OFF under Allow guest access.

  • Using RDP DVC channels from logon screen

    Hi,
I have developed a Dynamic Virtual Channel plugin for xfreerdp,
the code is working well in "classic" use cases and I am able to use my plugin in Windows applications on the RDP Host (Win7 computer).
However, I am facing issues when the plugin client code (executing
on the RDP server) is ran while the RDP session is not authenticated.
This happens when you connect to the RDP server (Windows
    7) using legacy "rdp" mode. The graphical logon screen is displayed and my plugin code runs. The issue is that very early in the client code, I have an "Invalid descriptor" error when using WTSVirtualChannelOpenEx.
I am wondering if you are allowed to use DVCs while
the user has not yet authenticated himself.
    Could anyone confirm this ?
Although using a static virtual channel would provide a workaround, I would rather not use such channels since they are limited.

    any help, please?

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4...

  • "Unable to load network list" instead of "Hello..."

I am using my 3G iPhone for more than 6 months.
Latest OS 2.2.1, and previous versions are causing a lot of headaches when I switching my iPhone upon arrival.
I am travelling a lot in Europe, every day; I have a Company phone, old Nokia 6300 and my private iPhone 3G.
Nokia connects network in one minute (average), but iPhone...
Instead of "Hello" I am getting always "Unable to load network list" when I switching OFF Airplane mode. There is only one button active: "Automatic" mode of network browsing. When "Automatic" is pressed, iPhone searches network for 3 to 5 minutes and lists the networks available in that specific region.
There are no automatic attempts to connect to any of these listed networks, so I need to select one of the listed networks manually, tap it again, and after some minute or two I am getting service...
I was trying different combinations of 3G and Roaming modes, but did not have any success...
All these headaches started when I performed first OS update.
I am not sure the factory OS version (probably 2.0.2) when I bought it, but only that one was free of the Carrier network browsing bugs.
I am becoming tired of tapping and tapping trying to force to connect to network my iPhone… I tried numerous times OS Restore with iTunes, but no help…
    I found a topic in forum: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1671274&tstart=270

    Hi there,
I had kind of the same thing where i would arrive abroad or back in the UK after being abroad and my iPhone would take 20-30 minutes to get a signal and when loading up network selection would always get unable to display message.
Had phone replaced by apple and the issue hasnt occured in the once ive been abroad since - connected pretty much straight away.
Just wondering if you are having the issue of delayed text messages where people text you and sometimes it takes 30mins-few hours to get delivered to your phone. Or the issue of people sometimes call you and you good signal and it goes straight to voicemail??

  • HT1937 iPhone 4 display "unable to load network list"

    Hi Guys,
I have a iPhone 4 from Singapore and it was working perfectly fine. I came to US few days ago and get a SIM card from T-mobile. My phone can't seems to detect any network with the new SIM card. I went down to T-mobile and they replace a new SIM for me but the problem still persist. The top left corner of the phone display "No service", then I went into Settings>Carrier I tried to turn off the automatic Network selection and a prompt "Unable to load network list" appear, after I select "OK" the automatic setting switch back to ON.
I look around on this site and tried a few recommendation, none work so far. Things I tried:
    - Restore to the phone via iTunes and restore back up
    - Restore to the phone via iTunes and set up as new phone
    - Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Switched off the phone and connect to my laptop with iTunes already running
    - With my phone connected to iTunes, I switched it off and on
My wifi connection is fine, and I tested my SIM card in my friend's phone it works fine too.
    My phone profiles under About:
    - Network: Not available
    - Version: 5.1.1 (9B208)
    - Carrier: Carrier 12.0
    - Modem Firmware: 04.12.01
Anyone can give me advices on how to get my network connection back?
    Thank you!
PS: I had never jailbreak my phone before.

I would try reseating the SIM and if that does not work, replace the SIM.

  • "Error Message" "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request"

"(shared network name)is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon

"The Network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password. To connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share."
As I am not particularly tech savvy, am not the one who set up this network drive, I dont want to interfere with it too much. I simply want to be able to get a basic understanding of the issue. We had set up a previous share, since deleted, that allowed
us to have a shared folder to work on documents between the US and Ireland. This new share has been working fine up until yesterday, when we got the above error messages when trying to access the share. Later in the day, it just worked again. Today, I go to
open the folder and the same error messages turned up, what could be going on??

    Hi Tomas,
Did your computer join the domain? How did you access that shared resource?
Please turn off your firewall temporarily and type the correct UNC address to access for test:
    \\servername\sharename \file_path
If it doesn't work, use the IP address of the remote server when you try to connect to the network share.

  • There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request

I am trying to recover from a catastrophic SBS 2008 disk failure.
This machine was a stand-alone Domain Controller, and as luck would (NOT!) have it, both disks in a RAID1 configuration failed in rapid succession.  Therefore, all I have is server backups to work with.
I have tried many permutations to get this data restored and the domain functional again, but so far, no dice.
I have successfully restored the system disk data from the most recent backup, but when I go to boot the system, I get a reboot loop.  When I tell it not to reboot on error, it gives me:
S c00002e2 Directory Services could not start because of the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. Error Status: 0xc0000001. Please shutdown this system and
reboot into Directory Services Restore mode, check the event log for more detailed information.
When I reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode, the system quickly says that AD is clean, but doesn't take me to a command prompt, it takes me to the login screen. When I try to log in as Domain admin, it says:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request
And I'm stuck.  Unless I can somehow find out what the local admin credentials are, I can't get in to the system.
I have removed the disk and put it in a Hard drive enclosure, so I can access the files.
At first, I had some complaints about the disk driver, so I found the correct driver version from Intel to circumvent that problem when doing the restore.
I can boot from the installation disk, but I can't use wbadmin from there in the restore mode.
Right now, I'm trying an earlier backup, but something tells me I might have some real trouble here.  This has turned in to quite the mess.
I have also tried reinstalling the OS to a new RAID array, but am loath to try putting the backup on there for fear I will be taken back to square one.
Do I have to start from scratch and recreate the domain and rejoin all the computers to it, or do I have a better alternative?
I have actually restored a SBS 2008 stand-alone DC from backup before, but that was RAID 5, so slightly different. I seem to remember having some driver headaches with that, but I did overcome them by getting into recovery and replacing the driver files
on the disk.  Tried that here, but still no luck.

  • Why do I have a grey logon screen now after downloading Yosemite ?

Hi, sorry if this sounds daft but please could anyone tell me why I no longer have my regular login/start up screen when I turn my macbook pro on ? I used to get a small flower icon with my name underneath it that I just had to enter my password into, now, after installing Yosemite, I am presented with a grey/white screen with a torso silhouette and then my name underneath and then space to enter my password.  If I enter my password it oddly starts a bar system loading with an apple icon above it, it then mostly goes to my desktop ( eventually ) but sometimes goes to the original logon screen where I have to enter my password again ???
I am not certain that Yosemite has installed correctly? if I click the apple logo and "about this mac" - it says I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10 but in my app store account, the download is not listing as done or even waiting to be done ?
Does anyone have any ideas please ?
    Many thanks
