Win7 crash when format 4TB disk on MSI MS-7613

Hi
I own a HP Pavilion Elite HPE-030sc system. This one have the MSI MS-7613 motherboard with Intel P55 Express Chipset.
The OS is Windows 7 64bit.
I want to change the data disk (the second disk) with a new Seagate 4TB hard drive. Original there are 2 750GB drives in it. The original boot disk stays there, so no problem with the BIOS.
What works: Boots fine. DiskPart - clear - GPT - add primary partition - yes got my 4TB partition.
What dose not work: Format drive (NTFS)
When I start the format, it runs for some time (5-10 minutes), the the PC reboots. Sometimes it gives a blue screen for 2 seconds.
I have tried to format via Disk Management and via DiskPart. Also boot to Safe Mode and did the format, but same problem.
Please help me....
I'm on the latest official BIOS version for this system.
But are there any separate firmware update for the SATA controller?
That will be part of the P55 chipset, right?
regards Georg
This question was solved.
View Solution.

I did find a solution to this problem.
Just go to intel.com and download a newer "intel rapid storage driver".
I did not take the lastest ver. 13.xxxx
Read on some wiki that my chipset was not supportet.
So just go for the ver. 12.9.0.1001.
And Wupti, all 4GB was there, and quict format took only short time as expected.
The WRONG answer you give me, and point to the MS site, is if the disk should be the boot disk.
But please read my Q. I want this to be at DataDisk only. And Win7 fully support this. So when when jus the the OS is booted, there is no councern about BIOS.

  • PS CS6 crashes when changing scratch disks!

I have a MBP with 2 internal drives and I'm running PS CS6. As it set right now PS is using my sytem drive as the 1st sratch disk and I want to set it to use my other content drive, since it has more space as well as not being the system drive, as the 1st sratch disk. Problem is when I do that and restart PS I get a srcatch drive cannot be found error and PS won't open. I have to delete the preferences for it to open up again.
Has anyone had this issue? Thanks.

Thanks. Tried the first option and saved as IDML, and then opened the new file. Still it crashed when I am trying to alter the Document Setup.
Then created new doc and moved the pages as described above. I lost the formatting on the basic paragraph style, but others came trhough well. Tried to alter the orientation - you guessed it - InDesign crashes.
Next I created a whole new document and simply copied and pasted the content across and now the document works! This is not obviously an idea solution if I had a document with dozens of pages, but in this case it worked.

  • Setup crashes when formatting

    Hello all.
I'm using a first generation ipod mini (4 GB). The setup in the CD-ROM crashes when i clicked "Format". The error is caused by "IDriver.exe". The installer said "Ipod is being reset now." before it crashes.
Anyone has any idea of how to fix this?
Is there an updated version of the ipod mini software installer?
I'm using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2.

    Hi
I'm getting the same error message. How did you resolve it PLEASE!!!!

  • PE4: program crashes when I hit "disk" button

When I click Share-->Disk, the program closes with only this message:
"Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Sometimes it thinks about it for a while before it crashes; sometimes it does it immediately; but I never get past the "Disk" button. I have removed and reinstalled PE.  I have removed Roxio.  I have tried it with msconfig disabling startup processes and services.  None of these have helped.  My dvd burner works with other programs.  Has anyone else managed to fix this problem?

Please take a look at the following AdobeTech Note on the subject and see if there is anything in it that will help
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402332.html
Also, when is the crash, at Share/Disc or Share/Disc/Disc or after in Share/Disc/Disc burn dialog when you set the preset?

  • Finder Crashing when opening exFAT disk

    Hi,
I have an External HDD partitioned to exFAT and NTFS. I use exFAT to back up my Mac data and it has been working fine.
The past week or so, whenever i try to open my exFAT HDD in Finder, it crashes and reopens.
When i checked my HDD in a PC it reads both partitions.
I was wondering if anyone can help me solve this problem. I recently upgraded to OS Mountain Lion
    Thanks!

I've duplicated this behavior on both my MacBook and my fiance's iMac, which are both running 10.6. With my 10.4-enabled G4 and iMac G3, there's no problems.
I think I've at least figured out the actual cause. I just opened a folder of pictures taken with my Oregon Scientific DShot II camera, and it didn't crash the Finder, nor did it kill Preview. The EXIF data was intact. The difference was that with these images, I'd edited them and re-saved with GraphicConverter when I first took them.
After repeating the tests with some other pictures, I think that the problem isn't so much with the EXIF data as it is with the +preview image+. The DShot II camera saves some kind of a preview image (which isn't very good). When I edited these images with GraphicConverter, the application added it's own custom preview, overwriting the original.
For some reason, Finder (and Preview, though I don't know why) handle GraphicConverter's preview image, but can't seem to be able to deal with the preview image that the DS2 embedded into the image. Why this should change with 10.6, when all previous versions of the software worked perfectly fine, I have no idea.

  • Mail crashes when format panel is clicked

I found this archived link to be very helpful in this problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7280888#7280888
But it did not fix my problem. What I did find is that this file, found in the FontCollections folder, seemed to be the problem:
    com.apple.Recents.collection
It was not present in the other User that I created, and the other User worked fine. The only files in that folder were:
    com.apple.Favorites.collection
    Fixed Width.collection
So, I deleted this: com.apple.Recents.collection, and replaced the contents with the two above. Now my mail does not crash.
The only thing I cannot verify right now is why this Recents file does not recreate itself, or if I will find another problem later by having deleted it. If anyone wishes to comment, especially Christina Jameson, who wrote the helpful instructions I used.
    Thanks.

  • XServe 2009 and 4TB disks

    Hello Peeps,
Can an XServe 2009 recognize and format 4tb disks and combine as Raid 1 ?
    Thanks.

Are you referring to the internal ADMs? or external disks?
If you're referring to ADMs - where you plan to take the disk out of an existing disk tray and replace it with a disks of your own, then there's been a lot of hits and misses (mostly misses) in using third-party disks. Some work, most don't due to various firmware support issues.
Off hand I'm not aware of anyone that's used 4TB disks (sucessfully or unsucessfully), so the answer might be - try it and see. I'm sure some people would be interested to hear your results.

    Erase and Install
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU after formatting completes and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
    5. After restart into Snow Leopard download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Moving iPhoto to external drive; have formatted external disk to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), moved the iPhoto library to external drive; when trying to change the library, the iPhoto file on new external is greyed out   can't be selected. What went wrong?

    Must have done something wrong..
    1.  formatted external disk to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - required a partition, but that went fine.  Entire new external disk was included in the partition formatted to Mac OS Extneded (journaled).
    2.  moved iPhoto library to new external disk
    3.  Holding Option key down, opened iPhoto
    4.  Choose library feature appeared, however when new library function option appeared and "choose library" selected, the iPhoto folder appearing in the new external drive was greyed out and not able to be selected.  Therefore the default library remains the original iphoto library on the Mac.
I've moved the original iphoto library to the trash and then tried to start iPhoto.  A message comes up that the iPhoto is in the trash and needs to be pulled out before iPhoto can start (clearly the new iphoto library on the external drive is not being seen.
Can anyone suggest where I went awry?  Thanks!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    Then try select it again.

  • Premiere Pro CC - Crash when opening because of network disk cache

I have had premiere fail to open for a while now on one of my secondary PC's. This computer was setup with a network drive as its disk cache/links to projects.
This is so multiple editors can work off the same RAID. Works perfectly, aside from the fact that windows somehow unlinked the network drive. Once this happened premiere fails to launch and crashes when starting the program.
I had got the network drive linked back up at one point and premiere launched again running with zero problems. Again windows messed up the network drive, and premiere again, does not work.
I need to reset the settings for premiere (the disk cache settings).
    THINGS I'VE ALREADY TRIED:
I already tried holding Ctrl + Shift to reset, did not work.
I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the settings were not removed and program keeps crashing.
I would just relink the network drive and then once premiere launches change the disk cache and never do that again, but sadly the computer will not relink to that partical drive.
Let me know if you need any more details,
I'm running windows 8, latest version of CC (just updated). I have 32gig Ram, I7 processor overclocked to 4.4GHz, Nvidia Graphics.
    Thanks much

    Hey there!
Well now your post is over one year old but recently I had the same problem.
Solution was what you were thinking: Redirect the path. But where??? I searched the registry and there you have it:
    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Common 8.0\Media Cache
There's a key called FolderPath. Set that to a local drive and Premiere should start again.
btw adobe: that's really a bad bad bug or misbehaviour. if something is not working software should ask for another solution instead of just crash...
