Win7 pro joins essential2012r2 domain profile migrate but has encrypted folders

Have a workstation set as workgroup that had encrypted folders for user. Workstation renamed and join to Essentials 2012r2 server using utility. It also merged user profile to domain. User did not say about encrypted folders. Now can not access files in
folders. I have located the certificate and key from original user profile. How to recover access to encrypted files?  Does workstations need to be dropped from domain and change back to original name and workgroup?  User profile is already associated
with domain profile.
Thanks for any help

Hello,
The folders were encrypted with EFS on the desktop of a user profile when the system was on a workgroup.  Then the computer name was changed and join to the domain for Essentials 2012r2 with the connect utility.  The utlilty then migrated the users
profile to the domain login.  The folders are now on this users profile desktop.  When looking at the security access it is displaying the old user/oldwksname as authorized to access.  These folders can not be moved or copied as the domain user
does not have permission to do so.
I locted the cert and key from the old user profile/appdata path.  Can these be used to gain access.  under cert manager of domain profile it does not have the associated key to the cert for export.
thank you

  • Windows 8.1 Pro join to domain issues....

We bought some Windows 8.1 laptops and purchased the upgrade to the Pro version.  When I attempt to join the laptops to the domain, it prompts me for domain credentials, I enter them, and I get an error....
Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "mydomain.com" failed.
The name will remain "mydomain.com".  The error was:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.
Of course, the domain DOES exist and we have plenty of Windows 7 workstations signed into it just fine.  I hit OK then login to the laptop using a domain account.  At this point, I get an error telling me that no logon servers are available to authenticate.
This is a Windows 2008 domain controlled environment.  Everything works fine otherwise for the Windows 7 systems, only these Windows 8.1 systems are having any issues.  The new laptops are even showing up in DNS on the domain controller.
Any ideas what I might be missing?  Is there something special about joining Windows 8.1 Pro systems to a domain?

OK; took a couple of more days than planned to get back on site.  We're continuing to do testing, but here's the IPConfig /ALL that was requested.  10.0.0.1 is the gateway, 10.0.0.10 is the DC.  The laptop is "Me-L" and the domain is "mydomain.com".
The below was pulled after getting IP information assigned via DHCP.  The laptop is not joined to the domain at the moment and login is a local account.

  • Win7 Pro ws, connected to Active domain network SBS2K8 server, but firewall Public networks - Connected.

Win7 Pro workstation shows active domain network but firewall thinks it's connected to Public Network.
Other Win7 Pro workstations in the same domain have no problems and show the correct Domain Network: Connected in the firewall panel.
SBS2K8 server can't see security status of, or offer remote assistance to this ws until it's firewall is disabled.
Domain name is correct. Machine IS logged into the domain. User has normal rights / Admin account. Just like everyone else.
This system has current AV, but disabling it (not uninstalling) makes no difference. All the machine have the same AV.
Not a wireless network, standard CAT5. Network connectivity appears normal: Access files on server share, browse internet, etc... all just fine.
    Already installed:

But this is not a virtual machine. It does run the WinXP mode V but this is happening in the regular Win7 OS.

Went back to the machine today to check your suggestions, and... now it's correct!
    Hi,
How many network adapter card do you have of your computer?
Just the one. A Realtek PCIe GBE
Check whether the DNS is the correct one you had deployed
Yes, DNS is set to the 2k8 server IP as primary, and the secondary is OpenDNS.
and update the group policy by using this command ”gpupdate /force”.
Done, didn't appear to log any changes.
Check the registry key at  “HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\History\NetworkName”
The NetworkName should be the domain name, when you get this done you will get a domain network profile, then restart your computer.
This key does exist and is the correct domain name.
More information refer to this article:

I think this is the answer you want.
Thanks for that. I've read through it and will keep it on file if the problem returns.

If you migrated all the info from time machine to your new MBP. The TM will usually ask to connect to the old backups.. sorry I am not sure is this what you want to do.. Personally I think you start a fresh backup.
BTW Time Capsule does not do anything.. it is a dumb hard disk in a box.. it is TM that does everything.
Look at B5 and B6 here about connecting to your backup.

windows live mail having problem after joining in domain examples incoming is good but sent or outgoing is not there and also send mails are not exporting at the time of live mail exporting time?

This is not usually related to AD issues, but it may be more of a DNS issue. I posted a request in your other thread to post an unedited ipconfig /all of the DC and of the client.
This may help use diagnose this issue and your other thread's printer issues.

You'll need to erase the drive by booting up holding command-option-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
Use Disk Utility to erase the disk and then Internet Recovery. That will take a while.

I just bought a new macbook pro and my CS6 migrated, but now when I open existing documents, it launches a free trial version. There doesn't appear to be a way to enter my serial number or communicate that I simply have a new computer. HELP! There is no customer support for this. I can't believe what a poor service company Adobe is!!

The problem was that you migrated CS6. Unfortunately, migration doesn't work because it doesn't move all the files.
First, you'll need to use the Adobe Cleaner Tool to remove the components that were installed:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Second, you should install a clean copy of CS6. Here is a link:

  • I reinstalled Win7 Pro on nc6320 but need a driver for Fingerprint Reader.

Win7 Pro is now installed on my nc6320 but the Fingerprinter reader software does not work. I have seen similar requests but they do not work for the nc6320.  Thanks.

    Hi:
Below is the fingerprint driver you need:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
Additionally, if you want to use the fingerprint logon feature you need to download and install the Protect Tools security manager
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
If you are missing any other drivers, just use the Vista drivers.
You card reader won't work unless you install this driver which is not listed on your notebooks support and driver page.

  • Use old domain controller AD user profile with new domain (profile changed)

    Dear All,
I have built Win Server 2012 for Domain migration from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012. I have tested all thing on VMware including user creation and tested Domain join using power shell for Win 7 and .VBs batch file for Win XP computers all thing
    are working fine.
Let 1st I introduce my current environment. I have existing Win Server 2003 domain controller (abc.com) with 130 client computers and 200 users I am going to plan migrate my current environment to Win server 2012 Domain (xyz.com) Keep in mind that Domain
name is changed but Domain Controller (Server) names are same i.e MY-PDC . I have tested domain join on multiple computers using existing clone of client computers and create all existing users using .csv file and power shell with required
credentials and OU.I am facing the user profile issue when I join domain and login with existing user which was previously the user of same computer the required profile does not login and computer creates new user profile in Document and Settings section
    of Win XP.
I need your expert opinions because copy old profile data and create new outlook profile for each user is a big headache for any one. Hope you people can understand and help me in this issue.
Please provide best answer and result on priority I will be thankful to all of you.

  • Windows 8.1 keeps forgetting my domain profile

I just did a fresh install of Windows 8, did updates, then upgraded to 8.1 via store.  I created the default local account then after 8.1 was updated I connected to my domain.  I can log into my admin domain account fine but Windows can't remember
my profile.  Any apps I set up, shortcuts on the desktop, or favorites added to IE, when I restart its all erased and back to square one.  I've tested it a few times and each time Windows has to set up my profile like its my first time ever logging
in.  How do I prevent this from happening?

    Hi,
How about your local account? Is it also had this problem? If this problem just happened on Domain Account, it is probably your account file damaged during join into domain.
Firstly, please check Event Viewer if it identify this events.
Secondly, Open Registry and access to the volume below:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Check and delete the problem account list. After that, exit your account from domain and join it again for test.

  • I am trying to move my Acrobat 9 Pro Extended  from my older HP Win7 Pro notebook to my new HP Win 7

I am trying to move my Acrobat 9 Pro Extended from my older HP Win7 Pro notebook to my new HP Win 7 Pro notebook. This should be WAY easy, and it's not. Sofware downloaded from MS/HP after new noteboook was safely home. Used Microsoft transfersoftware to move all--but the Adobe Night watchman won't recognize my product code (it worked on the older notebook). I have now recopied the irginal download and everything seems fine but the IE plug-in to Adobe PDF printer does not function. Any suggestions?

You won't like this response, but there is no way to simply move any Adobe software installation from one system to another. In part, this has to do with the registration/activation infrastructure that Adobe uses. FWIW, Adobe isn't the only software vendor for which you can't simply move software from one system to another via various migration tools.
You must totally uninstall from the first system including product deactivation and then install on the new system and reactivate.
In terms of “fixing” your current system, I would recommend totally uninstalling the software (and deactivating in the process), reboot, and then reinstall from scratch.

  • Windows 8.1 VPN Functionality dissappears after joining a domain

    Hello!
I can not seem to Identify the cause behind the following problem, I assume it is GP or permission related but I can not discover where.
    Summary:
-New Tablet purchased from dell (Venue 11 pro series) started as windows 8.1 and the 8,1 pro pack update key was applied to enable domain functionality
-Setup and create network connections and establish a VPN connection as the local Admin ( Everything works)
    -Join a domain
-Log on as a domain Admin
-Attempt to setup a VPN connection and an error is displayed in Charms saying "There is a problem with your modem or network adapter"
-Sign off and log on as the local administrator
-Attempt the same VPN setup, and the connection works and I receive the login credentials window in charms and the VPN can be established.
If anyone has any knowledge about this please let me know, I have yet to find 1 case similar to this.
    ****Update-
The VPN Connection appears in the Internet Options window Under the connections Tab, but when opening settings and properties I receive the following error:
"Cannot Load the remote access connection manger service.
      error 5: Access Is denied"
In services the accounts appear to be correct for the log-on as local system
Attempting to change this to a domain admin account or local admin account proved to cause addition problems with other services because they did not have the same log-on accounts being used in the same process...
Again a search on this has yielded results for other OS but not Windows 8.1, Any fixes for these other OS that were attempted resulted in more log-on confilcts.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
According to your description, it seems like there was a problem with remote access connection manager service, please access to the path below to check RasMan rights, make sure all the user have write rights.
    1. WIN+R, open Run, type regedit, press Enter.
    2. Narrow to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\RasMan
If problem persists, please contact Domain Adminstrator to check if there any limits with VPN.

  • Windows 7 Computer refuses to join 2003 Domain.

Hey guys, I'm having a slight problem over here on my end connecting two new windows 7 pro PC's to the 2003 R2 server downstairs.
What's happening is that the domain name 'Name.root' is not found by either computer, but if I type in 'Name' I get a prompt to join the domain with a valid username and password associated.  I've tried every username I have and even created
one on the server for myself to test with, but it still gives me an error that the password/username is incorrect.
As far as I know, the server and clients are all using DHCP and the DNS suffix is pointing to the same name. I can even ping the server from the computers upstairs, but if I use NSLookup, it only shows the router that's being used.
There are other windows XP pro units that will all connect using the same exact settings, so at this time I'm completely stumped as to what my next steps are.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
To find out what's your network environment, please upload the ipconfig /all results from Windows 7 client and Windows server 2003 R2.
I recommend you to manually assign IP address and DNS for Windows clients and Windows server 2003 R2 instead of using DHCP.
Also, please check if SRV record is created in DNS manager.
You can refer to the article below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816587
And recommend add such an entry: <FQND of domain> <server ip> to host file in windows client.
The path for host file is in %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

  • Move user profile to new domain profile on same computer

If you want to copy data and most of the preferences, I suggest Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro.
    http://www.fpnet.fr/

    Hello all
I've been given the tedious task of replacing a server with a new one using a different domain, then rejoining all of the desktops to the new domain.
There won't be any kind of migration, just rejoining desktops to new domain.
Has anyone got any recommendations on what would be the best way to transfer the desktops user profiles from the old domain profile to the new domain profile?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
