Win7 Pro ws, connected to Active domain network SBS2K8 server, but firewall Public networks - Connected.

Win7 Pro workstation shows active domain network but firewall thinks it's connected to Public Network.
Other Win7 Pro workstations in the same domain have no problems and show the correct Domain Network: Connected in the firewall panel.
SBS2K8 server can't see security status of, or offer remote assistance to this ws until it's firewall is disabled.
Domain name is correct. Machine IS logged into the domain. User has normal rights / Admin account. Just like everyone else.
This system has current AV, but disabling it (not uninstalling) makes no difference. All the machine have the same AV.
Not a wireless network, standard CAT5. Network connectivity appears normal: Access files on server share, browse internet, etc... all just fine.
Already installed:

I've seen
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7bce7005-b820-4340-a4c8-68025272d3aa/windows-firewall-falsely-shows-connected-to-public-network-when-my-computer-is-joined-to-domain?forum=w7itprosecurity
But this is not a virtual machine. It does run the WinXP mode V but this is happening in the regular Win7 OS.

Went back to the machine today to check your suggestions, and... now it's correct!
Hi,
How many network adapter card do you have of your computer?
Just the one. A Realtek PCIe GBE
Check whether the DNS is the correct one you had deployed
Yes, DNS is set to the 2k8 server IP as primary, and the secondary is OpenDNS.
and update the group policy by using this command ”gpupdate /force”.
Done, didn't appear to log any changes.
Check the registry key at  “HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\History\NetworkName”
The NetworkName should be the domain name, when you get this done you will get a domain network profile, then restart your computer.
This key does exist and is the correct domain name.
More information refer to this article:

I think this is the answer you want.
Thanks for that. I've read through it and will keep it on file if the problem returns.

You'll need to erase the drive by booting up holding command-option-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
Use Disk Utility to erase the disk and then Internet Recovery. That will take a while.

Recently purchased iPad Mini.  Downloaded iOS 6.0.1.  Could not get it to connect to Home WiFi using Linksys G Router.  Have another Wifi Network in Home (CenturyLink provided it as a DSL/Router combo).  Would not connect (nor would my iPhone 4s or my wife's iPhone 4) until I accessed the router's setting and changed to broadcast on Channel 6 and then IPad connected.  I suspect the only reason the iPhone were still connected to the Linksys network is that they were before I "upgraded to iOS 6.  Even after 6.0.2 the iPad and both iPhones will not connect to some home networks (its random) although thye will connect to public networks e.g. McDonald's, Panera, etc.

  • Can't connect via Screen Share or Web Server, but can ping and ssh

Bit of an odd problem here.
My Mountain Lion Mac Pro (called "Trogdor" for convenience) is connected to my work university network. I can ping it from anywhere-- elsewhere on the network, from home behind a firewall. Can connect over ssh from everywhere. I can also connect to other computers (on the same network or at home behind a firewall) from Trogdor via ssh, Screen Sharing, etc.
But I can't Screen Share into Trogdor, and I can't connect to Trogdor's built-in web server, either system-wide (in /Library/WebServer) or for my username (~/Sites). (I can connect to the web server from Trogdor.)
Note that I can do both of these for other computers on the same network (same subnet, etc), so it's not a network issue. I can't do these from anywhere: same network or from home. I have this problem whether I use Trogdor's hostname or its IP address. (I can look up its hostname using the IP address with the "host" tool in Terminal, and vice versa.)
So it sounds like a port issue, right? Except I don't think I've ever messed with my port settings directly. How do I diagnose the problem? Should I scan my ports? Can I return port settings to default?
    Thanks!

Well, I already know that events 5152 and 5157 are nearly the same, so we need to look only into one of them in each case. But what's next?
It seems to me that the firewall here treats the initial connection and a responce as two different connection. So it allows the initial connection (from A to B) because I have some rules in place that are supposed to allow remote management. But then it blocks the responce (from B to A). In this case, looking into separate connection from B to A, I guess, it should treat it as outbound and not filter at all. But it still calls it "Inbound" for some reason, apply some firewall rules and blocks it.
Are my assumptions wrong? What are the explanation for this behaviour? How do I prevent the packets from being blocked?

Many thanks. That sounds almost logical.
Your statement regarding "no real reason to disable" is not exactly valid. There are myriad reasons to actually disable the service itself - one of which is other software that conflicts and sees the 'service' state, and not the 'profile state' of the firewall
settings. Those products - let me give you at least one as an example... wait for it... wait for it... The 'infamous' SQL Server!
Yes, pups and pupettes, that' is correct - SQL Server does indeed give you a "false positive" during its pre-req checks and so forth; and and tells you, "Oops, dear systems manager, your firewall service is still enabled... blah blah"  - that's not
the exact quote, but very close indeed. Does it bother to check and see that, "OH, well, you've got firewall disabled for ALL profiles, so all is cool?" Noooo, of course it doesn't. [Note to Microsoft, please fix this!]
Now, it may be okay [at this point], since I already have SQL server properly installed, and past all the "pre-checks," to re-enable the firewall service; but, to just off-hand say "there's NO reason whatsoever to disable the firewall service;" well, that
    is just not correct.
For that matter, there are many of us who completely 'remove' the service - yes, it can be done - and, yes, I have written a technical article on doing just that; and, no, it will NOT cause unpredictable results - [IF] done properly and [IF] all the technical
whatcha-ma-jig-its are lined up with the North Star when Pluto is in retrograde.
But, yes, it is best just to let policy take care of disabling the various levels of the firewall and then leave the service as-is, since Microsoft puts more and more hooks in their o/s.
    Thanks again.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (what OS you're using, what Application you're using, a full or screen shot of any error messages) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it..
Are you connecting to a Cinema display or a New Television set. How are you connecting (HDMI cable, VGA cable, LAN cable, Wireless?)

  • When I attempt to download update or purchases, I get message that the network timed out but I'm still connected to the internet.  What does that mean?

When I attempt to download new updates or purchases to my ipod touch generation 3, it starts to download, then gives me the message that the network has timed out and I need to check the connection.  I don't understand this because each time I have an active internet connection.  Any idea why this is happening?

This is asked and answered very often on these forums.  A forum search bar is on the right side of this page.
Disable your firewall/security software and try again.
