Win7 (prof edition) hd failure

Attempted different boot options all failed.
Went to BIO setup, attempted to test Hard Drive, testing went on for several minutes, status indicated 0% progress.
Set BIO to boot with diagnostics (instead  of default quick).
Boot process indicated that Media Failure.
Opened up the back of the laptop and nudged the HD tighter (in case cable got loose).
Rebooted as Safe Boot to Prompt, after over 10 minutes waiting, finally booted to C:\Windows\system32
Issued the command of chkdsk /f
then, reboot with Safe Boot with Networking
After over 15 minutes it still hanged, finally rebooting with black screen.
All the while I was using a "Rescue/Recover" CD from Lenovo (their NC office sent it).
It seems obviously the hard drive has some serious issue.  If it's totally bad, how come at some point today it was able to boot to C:\Windows\system32 and allowing some command?
Where I'm now it's impossible to find a PC repair shop over the weekend.  By the way even last night it was working fine.   But in the last few weeks it often crashed, initially I thought it was due to the issue of failure to update .NET Framework 4 but the day before yesterday I finally managed to update it.

Please mention your laptop's model and machine type. It is almost certain that your hard disk is defective though. You need to take the laptop to a Lenovo Service representative if you are still in warranty, or buy a new hard disk and use the rescue and recover disks to bring it to factory condition.
If you have access to a desktop computer you could try taking the hard disk off the laptop and connecting it to the desktop and run tests from there, or use a usb enclosure to connect it to another machine, laptop or desktop and try to troubleshoot.

    Just an update.
    I believe some EVIL beings from some powerful organization has totally hijacked my Lenovo laptop.  Now the F1 key would not bring up the BIO setup menu, instead, it asked if I want to boot to Windows 7.  Windows update for .NET Framework 4 failed.  Previously I fixed.  Now it's gone again.
    These [mod edit] despicable evil beings are most likely from a government.  An individual would not have such motivation.

    My general rule of thumb when encountering these types of issues is to get on the phone with your anti-malware software vendor's technical support department.  They are likely best able to investigate and troubleshoot issues you think may be related to malware (whether from governments, criminal organizations or just garden-variety hackers).

    Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
    Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
    Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
    A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
    This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
    Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
    In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0

    There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0.  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
    (You can have them both installed at once if you like.)

  • Under v33, 2 Win 8.1 PCs sync well; a WinXP PC communicates its bookmarks + bookmark folders, but not its tabs; a Win7 Starter Edition PC syncs nothing in & out

    I just want to report inconsistencies in synchronizing 4 machines. ALL four were introduced to syncing in the last week or so under the latest Firefox. No account was open under the older sync method.
    3 machines below run Firefox 33.0. The Windows XP machine runs Firefox 32.
    Two Win 8.1 PCs sync well between each other (can see each other's tabs and bookmarks).
    A Win7 Starter Edition PC syncs nothing in & out, even though the Sync icon turns when clicked on.
    A WinXP PC communicates its bookmarks and bookmark folders to the Win8 PCs, but NOT its tabs. After the commands HISTORY | TABS FROM OTHER DEVICES in the Win8 PCs, no tab from the XP computer shows up, even though the XP computer has open active tabs.

    * How do I turn on sync logs:
    # Open about:config and turn on: services.sync.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess and services.sync.log.logger.engine.bookmarks
    # Restart Firefox and look at: about:sync-log
    # Logs and error messages will be located here

    According to your description, could you please tell if you get this issue when you open any .ascx files in a specific app or all web apps have the same issue?
    So if possible, I suggest you can create a simple web project in VS2012 Prof and add a .ascx files under the web project and open it again check if you get same issue.
    (1) If you get same issue in a sample web project, I suggest you can try the following suggestion to check this issue.
    Step1: I suggest you can try to open these .ascx files in VS safe mode check if you install some Add-ins or extension tools in your VS2013 IDE.

  • AA8 and Win7 Home Edition - why won't Adobe PDF Printer work?

    Was running AA8 on my XP Pro laptop.  Installed AA8 on my netbook running Win7 Home Edition.  Can't print to Adobe PDF printer - well, the reality is that the system tells me it's printing, but it never opens Acrobat or Reader to ask me where I may want to file the PDF file!  Troubleshooter tells me that I'm missing the AdobePDF.dll file and that it's on "the Windows Vista CD-ROM".  Unfiortunately I've never had such a CD nor have I ever used Vista.  How can I get AA8 to work on my netbook?

    As suggested by the link, you are likely running a 64-bit system. You have to have at least AA8.1 for 64-bit systems. If you have just installed, you are likely running 8.0. Simply open Acrobat and go to Help>Updates and request the updates in order until they are all applied and then reboot. Also, be sure that AcroTray is running in the background (ctrl-alt-del and check the task list. Enter ESC to return or just close the window).

    Ich kann mich dann nicht anmelden obwohl ich einen gltigen Benutzernamen und das AdminstratorPW benutze.
    Auf anderen PC mit XP als BS kann ich mich nach wie vor problemlos im Netzwerk anmelden.
    Kann mir jemand weiter helfen?

    Zuerstmal: Leider wird die Kombination as uraltem Server mit aktuellem
    Client und Desktop Betriebssystem auf Dauer keine sehr erfolgreiche
    sein. Aber es sollte schon grundsätzlich erstmal funktionieren.
    Welche Version des Novell Client ist das genau? Und wie Anders gefragt
    hat: Klappt es wenn statt des Servernamen dessen IP Adresse eingegeben wird?

  • The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) in Audition CC. Latest fix? Win7 Prof

    Another username, password later, ..., control handed over to Creative Cloud, install Audition.... then
    "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)" in Audition CC. So re-installed. I on't want to spend hours trying to get Adobe software to run.  This was my trial application download to see how it worked. ANd it didn't. And there are heaps of posts with complicated advice... ending with - go get a chat support person. And they are not available. aaaaggggghhhhh
    I am now worried that installing any other app from CCloud may cause problems on my PC with other Adobe SW.
    What is the latest (and hopefully simple) way of getting this program to run?
    I don't have ilivid,
    I do have:  CS5, Win 7 Prof, installed via some Adobe CCloud app that I was told to install and use to manage your CC account,
    Grateful for anyone who can wave the magic wand.

  • MSI 865PE Platinium edition board failure?

    hello guys,
                   umm i recently upgraded my pc's powersupply unit and installed a new MSI NX6200 video card in my MSI 865PE Platinium edition board. well when we started the PC there was no signal display on the monitor and i failed to get the my pc started the power was on but nothing on screen, no beeps from the motherboard at all. The D brack on the back of the pc indicated memory failure so we took out the memory nothing no beeps i asked a computer seller guy to check it he said that the chips of the board are not getting hot but are cold so might be the board failure, i really don't know what to do, the warrenty is over as it was 1 year nearly and i don't get it the CPU did not fall or nothing only thing was i usually never cleaned my pc from inside so dust could be the reason or could voltage surge or something could have done some damage anyway my 130 $ board has failed from MSI gurentee tests or whatever  .  ;-((any suggestions ? guys

    midhat, try go through this to find out what's wrong?
    is there a buzzer/speaker on the board? If there is no, can you hook up one buzzer on your casing? After that, try this:
    1. remove EVERYTHING, except CPU. No RAM, no display, no EVERYTHING ELSE. All OUT!
    ---> you should hear 3 long beeps. If no, you have pretty much a dead BIOS, or an unsupported CPU, or a dead CPU, or a dead board, or really bad PSU.
    2. as (1), but add RAM.
    --> you should hear 8 fast long-short beeps. If no, it could be half-defected RAM, bad chipset, bad board, or a bad PSU.
    3. as (2), but add Display card,
    --> you should see POST screen. If not, then bad display card, bad board or bad PSU.
    4. as (3), but hook up the rests, one by one. Try to repeat power on again and see what's wrong.

  • "Out of memory" error using SmartView v11.1.1.3.500, MS Excel 2007 & MS Win7 Prof SP1 (all 32-bit)

    Hi All,
    A user is regularly experiencing "Out of memory" error messages while retrieving large MS Excel 2007 worksheets (ad-hoc analysis; approx 700 rows by 13 columns) connected to a Planning cube via 32-bit SmartView v11.1.1.3.500 (Build 008) on a 32-bit MS Windows 7 Prof (SP1) computer with 4GB of RAM. The same user is reporting experiencing a number of other issues (eg, TCP-related time-out, unable to connect to the APS, SmartView add-in disappearing, etc) at the same time.
    I could not locate any specific KB document from the My Oracle Support website which addressed these specific issues all at once but from various posts out there, the recommendations to address similar issues were as follows:
    Tick the Options > Display > Reduce Excel file size option;
    Tick the Options > Display > Improve metadata storage option;
    Rebuild the MS Excel workbook from scratch;
    Delete all temp files located in the C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\Temp directory;
    Disable auto-recovery for MS Excel;
    Add misc TCP-related registry entries (eg, TcpTimedWaitDelay, MaxUserPort, MaxFreeTcbs, etc) on both the client PC and server;
    Adjust MS Windows for best performance;
    Increase the page file by 25%-50% more than the physical amount of RAM installed on the client PC;
    Relocate the page file to a different drive as compared to the drive where MS Windows is installed on the client PC;
    On top of the above, are there any other recommendations anyone else would like to share to address the "Out of memory" issue?

    Monitor the Full GC in GC log and see if there is any gradual increase in the free memory retained after every Full GC over a period, if there is a gradual increase and if its reaching maximum specified heap over a period of time, that means there might be some slow leak from application or native libraries.
    Also please check if you have any pattern or request which might be triggering OOM all of the sudden.
    If its memory leak best way to investigate that is to capture JRA's at regular interval's and monitor top 10 objects and see which one is growing and consuming more % of heap over a period of time.
    You can also have this by captured by print_object_summary and print_memusage options in JRCMD command over a period of time.

  • Cannot install System Update 4 on Thinkpad W520 running Win7 Prof 64

    I am having problems installing system update 4. I originally installed it and had the problem with running it and getting the tvsu error message that is addressed in another thread.
    I uninstalled it then ran two registry optimizers and reinstalled .Net and now I can't even install it. When I do I get the following:
    This setup will perform an upgrade of '!@^'. Do you want to continue? Yes or No.
    I click Yes and it runs some more until this pops up:
    Error 2753. The File 'startsuservice.exe' is not marked for installation.
    Click OK then the installation program finishes but does not complete. I even tried to uninstall and reinstall the entire toolbox and that does not work.
    I have a W520 running Win7 64.

    I do problem determination on main frames. Been doing it for 30 years.  I did the same early in my career. Gather the facts.  In your case, original, ,  System update msg error. Did something else occur(registry cleaner). Some times the interview points to the most simple solution. Oh, really? The easy fix would be to bypass the point in the install process that is pointing to a previous version that does not exist or find the offending registry entry that is deceiving the install process and delete it.  But I can't do that because I am not a MS/PC software engineer and I can't seem to find one who can help. OH, change parm=0 to parm =1 or install the newer version. Where? Simple. You over killing it.
    What I like to call tourist Information...(couch potato), .. so. bottom line,  in June 2012, version 4 SU gave me a error message. That is where we start. That would be nice but no one has ever solved the original problem in this forum.

    I have a problem with my Laptop. When I have given in HP service centre , they said the chipset has failed due to the over heat problem of NVIDEA graphics card. The only way is changing the complete chipset, but it costing around 400$.
    Is that costs that much and Do I have any another way to bring my laptop into working condition.
    My worry is if change the chipset, is there a guarantee that it works fine without heating problem?
    Is there any other motherboard available without NVDIA graphics card for my laptop model?

    You have the Intel version of the dv2700 series which is not as prone to failure as the AMD version. However, you do have the nVidia GeForce graphics, which as you have seen can fail.

    The motherboard itself is readily available on eBay:

    This motherboard would have lower performance in gaming and graphics but would run cooler and likely last longer.
    The board should fit but there may be minor differences with the ports which could require some fitting.
    You can likely get a local service shop to install the integrated grahics type board for around $150 labor, which would make the total bill more like $250 than $400. I would frankly buy a new laptop before spending that much to repair it but it is your call.
