Win8.1 Update 1 install was not an easy task. (Win8.1 Pro 64bit)

Win8.1 Update 1 install was not an easy task. (Win8.1 Pro 64bit)
KB2919355 Failed to install : 09Apr, 11Apr, 11Apr, 12Apr, 12Apr, 13Apr, 16Apr, 17Apr; succeeded: 17Apr.
After the first three failures I did an online search and found the following information:
According to a posting I found, when Windows 8.1 Update first fails to install, the original patch does not clean all leftovers, so all your attempts to manually deploy the new release will obviously fail as well. Andrew B recommends users follow the next
steps and then try to install Windows 8.1 Update manually.
1. Launch Command Prompt with administrator privileges
2. Run the following command: dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14
3. When step 2 is completed, run this command: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
4. Try to install Windows 8.1 Update manually
I followed these steps and tried both an online and offline installation a couple of times - without success.  More searching resulted in more information:
from:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windows-8-1-Update-Installation-Fails-with-Error-Code-80070020-436577.shtml
1. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
2. SFC /scannow
The next attempt at installing Update 1 worked. I then checked the CBS.log file in the \Windows\Logs\CBS folder and found numerous comments that 'SFC /scannow' found many missing or corrupted files and took action to replace them. I was surprised that many
of the 'new' files were images and were in the \Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Themes1 or \Themes2 folders.
I had previously deleted all images I did not want as wallpaper - there was no option to unstall themes using Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on and off.
So, it appears that Win8.1 Update 1 expects to find 'everything' that was part of the initial/original installation still on the computer even though I "Took Ownership" of the original images and folders and deleted them. SFC /scannow may have
repaired/installed other files but that information was eliminated with the successful install.

Hi,
Thanks for your sharing on this issue.
The update 1 also change some UI designs, that's why it try to find all related files about theme and components to replace.

I have tried several times to install iTunes update 11.1.4 on my PC.  I get a message saying that install was not successful and an error message of MSVCR80.dll not present, Error 7, (Windows error 126).  I am told to reinstall iTunes, but nothing changes.  What next?  I've not had this problem with other updates requested by Apple.

I have also had the same problem with my Win 7 32 bit computer.  I had great help from Apple techs in Montreal and Orlando for 2.5 hours.  They helped me remove every trace of Apple products and clean the registry in two different ways.  Each install gave the same problem!  If Apple techs can't fix it (on some of our machines) then we are really in trouble.  They promised to raise it with the "engineers" and get back to me with a solution.  I am waiting and hoping.  Otherwise maybe version 11.1.5 will have a fix ??

Software component sap.com/LM-TOOLS with version 7.00.9.3 is found on the system but in the stack it is listed with version 7.00.9.0.
Software component sap.com/SAP-JEECOR with version 7.00.9.1 is found on the system but in the stack it is listed with version 7.00.9.0.
You are trying to upgrade a system with the lower version of sap.com/LM-TOOLS and sap.com/SAP-JEECOR. The other thing I notice is that if you are upgrading to  EhP4/EhP1 NW then the version of LM and SAP-JEECOR should look something like 7.01.3.0.
Are you using MOPZ to download EhP's ? As the error message says synchronize the system with SAP Solution Manager and then generate a new stack file.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I change the default pdf reader from the installed (but not yet registered) Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to Adobe Reader XI?

How can I change the default pdf reader from the installed (but not yet registered) Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to Adobe Reader XI? I'm having some hiccups getting Adobe to register the software, but since I set it as the default .pdf reader during setup, things try (and fail) to open in the as yet unregistered software. How can I change it temporariiy to the Acrobat Reader XI that I have installed?

    Anubha,
It worked! Thank you so much.
I'd opened file with the 'Open with' feature then clicking Adobe Reader,
but that didn't do it. When I used 'Open with', then 'Choose default
program...', it worked like a charm.
    Again, thank you!

    Hi macinfrance!
I installed the EFI Firmware update successfully on my computer.
It seems to me that your list of nvram is lacking an entry telling your bootloader (boor.efi) exists on your normal harddrive partition.
I suggest the following (i am not quite sure if it will work):
    1. Go to the system preferences and select the startdisk fane. Then, be sure to select your system harddrive.
    2. Then restart your computer.
    3. Make a restore CD in case something goes wrong (instructions at: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd14.html )
    4. Try the firmware update again.
When i type nvram i get the following contents:

  • Hello all, i am in need of the newer version of Mobile Device Support as when updating the file was not installed, would anyone tell me where i could find a new version? thankyou

Hello all, i recently updated my itunes but when i did this the Mobile Device Support file did not install, would anyone be able to help me find a download? thanks

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • How do I get my albums and pictures to match correctly? Ever since the last iPhoto update my entire library has been in disarray. i.e. my wedding album have pics from vacation album. Which was not the case before.   MacBook Pro 2010

Ever since I did the lastest iPhoto update my picture albums have not correctly matched up with the corresponding photos. i.e. my wedding pictures now show up in my vacation album.  The picture thumbnails are not showing me the correct photos.
15 inch MacBook Pro Late 2010
    iPhone 4

I have iPhoto '11 with the lastest software update. I forgot what number it currently is. I am vigalant when it comes to the latest software updates. Yes, I did restore my iPhoto pictures from a backup since I founf out I could not share any of my pics using my apeture library since they were not the orginals. So, after the back-up of iPhoto all my pictures albums and the pics in the album do not match up, even the thumbnails.  I find this quite annoying. All my albums were working and correctly before this update.  As for apeture can I re-master all the photos there masters? so i can just do away with using iPhoto all together?
    Thanks for the quick reply!

  • Windows 7 install pendrive not showing in boot of Macbook Pro 3,1

Hi, I have a 2007 Macbook Pro, and my superdrive has been broken for a while now, but because of work reasons I have to Install Windows 7 in it.
I have an external Samsung DVD drive, and I have created several install pendrives with every tool known, and still, one way or the other, when I boot the Mac and press the alt key, my mac only shows the Macintosh HD and the recovery partition, neither the external DVD drive nor the pendrives. But if I boot into Mountain Lion both, the DVD and the pendrive appears in the desktop.
If I select the DVD as the boot unit in Preferences/Startup disk when rebooting the Apple logo appears in the screen and nothing happens.
    Any guess?
    Thanks.

1st install was not complete-would not work. Uninstalled completely, even regedit.-no trace left. rebooted of course. but it will not install. it wants to uninstall non-existing elements 10.
    what to do?

Any chance that you backed up your registry prior to manually editing it?  If so please do so.
You can also try running the CS Cleaner tool to attempt to detect any remaining registry entries and try to remove them.  You can find details regarding the use of the CS Cleaner tool at CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.
