  • Wind Filter not working correctly - CS5

    Hello,
Maybe because its Friday, but for some reason my Wind Filter is not creating the "tracers" or "trails" that I am used to seeing.
My goal is to create a motion effect on white text.  The "tails" are not growing in length when I duplicate the filter over & over like it should.  What am I doing wrong?!?
    Example:
This is the text after applying the filter once.
Here is an example after the 3rd time of applying the Wind Filter.
As you can see, the streaks are remaining within the text. It's not creating the trailing streaks that I need.
Probably something obvious I am missing, but I cannot find a solution to this anywhere.
    Thank you!

Light pixels are blown into dark. See thread: Having trouble with the wind tool.

  • Help! Cant get wind filter to work

5I am attempting to use the wind filter on text but when I attempt to use the filter it is greyed out and not available.
I have followed several turorials and attempted to look it up in a book I have but am missing something.
I have typed the text on a background, rasterized it according to instructions, then when I attempt to use the filter it is greyed out and I am not able to select it.
Obviously I am missing some basic, but very frustrating, step and would greatly appreciate someone's assistance.
I am on a bit of a timeline and am under a bit of pressure if I am going to use this effect.
    Thanks much,
    Brent

Some filters only work on 8-bit RGB files.
    Check in Image > Mode.

  • Filter Wind, Different then Ps CS2?

I recently got Ps CS3 and I love the wind filter in CS2 but in CS3 the results come out way different. I was wondering if that is the new wind filter or is there some thing wrong. Is there a way to fix it.
In CS2 the wind effect showed up outside of the text, but in CS3 it is showing up inside the text.

Note that the Wind filter streaks into darkness. It the type is white it will streak out from the type. If it is black or a color it will streak into the type.

  • Wind.8bf file missing from trial version photoshop cs5?

I am trying to learn a specific text effect and the tutorial uses the "wind" filter in photoshop.  I am currently using a trial version of PS cs5, and have been able to use all features so far...  has the wind filter been ommitted from the trial version?  Also, I downloaded an older version of the Wind.8bf file and located it within the correct /plugin/filters/ folder, but PS still does not recognize it.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?
    thanks,
    Neil

Did you look in Filter - Stylize - Wind?
It only works on pixel-based layers.  Is the tutorial based on an older version of Photoshop, or have they done something to the text to rasterize it into pixels?
If I recall correctly, the Wind filter is provided in Photoshop CS5 as part of a single plug-in file that provides a whole bunch of filters.  I believe they did this to help speed up the startup, as Photoshop doesn't have to enumerate so many plug-ins this way.
Generally speaking, you should not put the separate 8bf file from another version of Photoshop into the folder tree for the current version, and in fact this can break things.  Remember to remove the file you put in place.

  • Is my Camcorder recording speed going to effect playback?

I just got a new FS-100 Canon Videocamera which records on SD and SDHC cards. It has the abilty to record in LP (3 mb/sec); SP (6 mb/sec) and XP (9 mb/sec). So I'm thinking best to record in the highest quality - since I'm taking a major vacation trip (finally!)--
--but then read that it might be better to record in SP (6 mb/sec) because although iMovie will not have a problem with this, I read: "...but 6 mb/sec better if your final format is DVD since some players will have problems keeping up".
I'm not really sure what that means---
---My DVD player is April 2002 vintage; and today a new one is not expensive-- so I don't really want to sacrifice quality--
NOTE: This camcorder is Standard Definition, NOT HIGH DEFINITION - and I'm using the 4:3 recording format since I still have an standard TV (1992 Sony...)
OK this may also be a question for iMovie but any comments appreciated. My idea is to import from the SD and SDHC cards into iMovie and then burn DVD's from there-- but believe I have to use iDVD to burn DVD's?
    Thanks!
    Steve Schulte

I prefer using camcorders that have a FW port in terms of a digital interface as opposed to USB2. I also prefer using iM6 as opposed to iMovie 7 when it comes to editing and custom chapter markers. It's a free download from apple's web site assuming you already have iLife'08:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovieHD6
That would be my first recommendation. The second would be to record to MiniDv tape and not to SD cards if you plan to edit with i-Apps as well as burn to DvD-R Verbatim. The final results will look cleaner than video captured to SD Memory cards. I'm assuming this planned vacation is a once in a lifetime trip with loved ones and if it were mine (I wish) I'd want it recorded to a highly reliable and tested format. MiniDv is just that.
The camcorder you currently use is not my favorite choice. The FS100 will deliver typical budget video in line with their budget price tags. But is this really what you want for your vacation? Think about it? "No optical image stabilization; ineffective wind filter; no headphone jack; modest video quality."???
Will it work? .... marginally, yes (or rather maybe). And not without jumping through a few hoops to finally get it to Dvd-R. And when all is said and done; what about the quality? Is this how you will remember your vacation?
Is your choice of camcorders even listed here?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014
    http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/canon-fs100-silver/4505-6500_7-327863 99.html
Lastly, in regard to recording speed. Stay with SP mode (or the highest setting for quality playback". Don't forget to bring a quality tripod in the event you do opt to stay with the FS100 simply out of Budget considerations.

  • DISPLAY INTERFERENCE PowerbookG4 (2005)

    Hello -
About 18 months ago my PBG4 had a fairly hefty crash whilst linked to an external hard drive. This took the internal and the external drives down. The internal HD was replaced - by an authorised mac chap and a cloned system was put onto the machine. When i turned it on i got this chaotic interference, which doesn't look unlike the wind filter in photoshop. My mac chap checked again for any pinched wires and obvious loose connections, but found no problems. Screenshots and the mirror mode using an external monitor show no problems. This leads us to assume it was a lid problem. However, at the beginning of the week of 8th feb i needed to use it so hooked it up to an external monitor. After about 2 hours, the problem seemed to go away. It was then off for 24 hours and restarted on the wednesday - without the external monitor and was working fine. It was then used all thursday and friday. Not even a flicker! Great i thought it was fixed, and we all assumed it must have been dust that had burnt off(!)when the machine had been opened. It has now been off for 10 days and i've just turned it back on and the same problem has reoccurred.
OK, problem-solvers! This is the first time i've used a forum (of any type) and what i would like is:
    a) can anyone tell me what the problem is?
    b) why would it go away and then come back?
    c) is it just a case of warming up???
    d) its a good machine with a new hard drive - what would you do with it!?
I did replace it with an imac - which is lovely, but i am slightly heartbroken that i thought old faithful was healed!
I wait with baited breath and a modicum of hope that someone can solve my problem, or at least explain it!
Thanks for reading all of my message, i hope it is as clear as possible...

    Hello BGreg
Thanks for your reply. I think the mac chap did this and nothing showed up, but i'll check. My original cd is now redundant as a newer system (leopard)was put on it and i don't have that disc. But here's an update for you. I've had it on for 4 hours and after 2.5 hours it solved itself again - just like last week. The display has completely stabilised.
This is peculiar because, does that mean it needs 2 hours warm up everytime i go to use it? However, I just unplugged the machine to move it and it's battery usage had dropped to 98% and the screen went again. Could it be a battery issue - that if the machine is not at 100% it won't function properly?
thanks so much for your help - let me know what you think now. best wishes esther

  • Creating jagged image borders

Hello, I am creating an image border using the rectangle marquee, and making it jagged by applying a Stylize > Wind filter to it.
Using Wind there is no way to adjust the jagged edges, is there any kind of third party plugin that gives me more editing features?

I have used auto-fx edges to do what you want. there are literally hundreds of edge effects, but it is not the fastest software i have ever used. large files take a while to render the effect, but they may have gotten better. here is a link.

  • FS7 audio Frequency Response 50Hz - 20KHz?

Hello guys, I'd like to point out an issue that I couldn't find on the forum regarding the audio frequency response.I've always worked with pro camcorders that recorded 20Hz to 20KHz, which is the standard frequency us humans can hear. So I was surprised when I saw in the FS7 manual that the audio Frequency Response is 50Hz to 20KHz. Is this a typo? Or is the camera actually limited to 50Hz for the lower freqencies?I would assume that the internal mic would be limited to that range, yes, but not the internal recording of the sound? Why limit the camera to 50Hz? Any light on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks!

The tests I posted are for the mic inputs, not line inputs. I did test both, but since I often run & gun and cannot support all the extra gear to make the FS7 mic inputs on  a par with Sony's EX3 mic inputs, I'm requesting that the high pass filter added with firmware 2.0 be removed in futre updates. We have the wind filter already. No additional filter is needed. While Genelec monitors are pretty good, they're not noted for deep bass response. Most studios use the ubiquitous NS10, which are only good to 80hz, which is why few people notic the deficiency. The custom built system in my screening room has a -3dB point of 7hz. I noticed that even piano sounds thin on this camera. that doesn't surprise me,  since the rolloff starts at 200hz. All I'm asking for is the same quality I'm used to with my EX3's mic inputs. Only 0.5dB down @ 20hz and no thinning of the midrange. When I do large budget orchestra shoots (rare) I use 24/96 sampling, 8 channels and large diaphragm studio condensers. My recordings earned critical praise from Peter Aczel at The Audio Critic. I was a sound engineer for 4 decades before I got my first digital camera. In addition to that, I was consulted as an independent expert on infrasonics for chapter 17 of Ethan Winer's THE AUDIO EXPERT, published by Focal Press. I was responsible for the information on subwoofers and how they operate. Acoustic and speaker design share a long history with me, and my 'day job' is amplifier design, modification and repair. I'm too intimately aware of what's going on in the signal path of an audio system and when modern digital systems deviate intentionally from DAT-quality, it really bothers me. I made a big deal about this in 2007 with the Sony HVR-V1U, and Sony must have listened, because they got it right with the EX1 and EX3 cameras. But sadly, they've reverted to these games with the FS7, though not as badly as 2007.

  • Need Help Scaling Photoshop Effect to Higher Resolution

    Hi Friends,
Working on a cool PS web tutorial and it worked as promised. Here is the site link: http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photoshop-text/text-effects/light-burst/
This tutorial is done at 640x480, 72 dpi.
I want to make a larger, higher-rez version for print (t-shirt, mug, hats, on cafepress). When I tried the tutorial with PS set at 300 dpi and 15" page size, the effect did not work as shown. In particular, I had trouble with the "wind" application in steps 14-16: http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photoshop-text/text-effects/light-burst/page-5.php
Perhaps, due to the higher rez, the wind filter did not distort the text as shown in the tutorial. It was much less pronounced. Repeated applications of "wind" did not salvage the effect.
Can anyone help me attain this tutorial effect at higher resolution?
Hope I've been clear enough here. Don't hesitate to ask for clarification.
    Thank you.

  • Dv file unusable

I have dv files that I have imported into FCE but they can't play in the viewer (it only shows a frame or two then stops but the audio continues). My sequence settings are correct and I have a fast machine so I don't see what the problem is. The file is enormous (9 GB) but it should be useable. Is there a common mistake I might be making? How do you edit with dv?

Did you set the Quality to HIGH in MPEG Streamclip? What frame rate did you set?
In FCE, set the Canvas window to "Fit to Window" or smaller and make sure the clip is fully rendered.
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but the DCR-SR42 has received some pretty bad reviews for video quality. This is from cnet ( http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/sony-handycam-dcr-sr42/4505-6500_7-32 306183.html ):
    Product Summary
The good: Compact and lightweight; large storage capacity; bundled dock; built-in lens cover.
The bad: Mediocre video and still photo quality; no wind filter; small, fingerprint-magnet touch screen LCD; software free for Windows but $100 for Mac.
The bottom line: Given its mediocre video quality, the Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 seems overpriced for what it delivers.
As with most things, video is garbage in - garbage out. You have to start with a decent quality to end up with decent quality ... especially after transcoding.

  • Do you think this is the logic board?

Ok, So I'm sitting in psychology and the computer freezes and the video becomes distorted (like the Photoshop wind filter) little lines going everywhere. I then held the power button and it shut down. Then I tried to boot it, but nothing.
Later it works OK, but do you think this is the logic board?
    Will it get worse?
And finally, Do you think I am eligible for a logic board replacement?
    Serial: UV3283xxxxx

Gah, Sorry forgot to mention in the message i have an ibook.
You didn't need to say that you have an iBook because it says it in your system configuration at the bottom of the screen I just thought that I'd mention my experience because it was a bit similar to yours.
I definately think that it is worth getting it checked out. Maybe just drop it off at an Apple store and ask them to do some tests on it to see if the logic board does have a problem. If you are eligable for the logic board replacement then it's definately worth looking into. Often, intermittent problems like this can turn into more serious ones like mine.
I personally would not leave it down to chance.
    Good luck

  • Question on filters in photoshop cc

I am trying to use the wind filter in cc, However it is not a active filter for some reason. Can anyone tell me why it isn't or how to make it active so I can use it?

Check your mode. Most filters are 8 bit.

  • Best audio filter for heavy wind noise ?

    Hello everyone
I'd like to know what is the most used audio filter in order to recuce a heavy wind noise without affecting the voices of a conversation in my movie ?
    Thanks

I don't know what people use, but I've always been told that the best way to get good audio is to get it right the first time. Since I'm no sound guy, I struggle to get anything to sound good.
Export your offending Audio to .aiff and pull it into SoundTrack. Go to your Effects on the middle left of your screen and pick SoundTrack Pro>Channel EQ. Drag this into the area under your Effects bin. Then start playing your sound while adjusting the Advanced Dialog.
You can tweak different frequencies and try to pull out the wind. However, wind often is around the same range as voices, so it's going to cause some distortion.
Beyond this, if the wind was really bad it will have caused "popping" that will have mutilated any talking at that moment.
Can you do any looping/re-record the voices? That may be your best bet.
I'm hoping some sound guy comes here and sets me straight and helps you out. Perhaps check the SoundTrack forums....
I'm sorry I'm not more help.

  • Reducing Wind noise / Audio filter for wind noise

    Hi,
I have a project here where a client has asked that I cut out the wind that is disturbing the dialogue in one of the clips. I am not sure if this can be done and would like to be able to advise the client accordingly.
Here's what I know about the clip I recieved: I did not record the audio however I do know that the audio was recorded on a shot gun mic placed directly under the person speaking to it. No boom, just hand held.
I've tried using the low pass filter (makes it too tinny), and even exporting it to soundtrack pro and used the noise reduction application (makes a strange digital sound instead of wind) to no avail.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you need anymore info about the project files please let me know.
Is it possible to use a filter in FCP 6 to reduce the wind sound?

The noise print (what you did in STP) is tricky to use with wind since the sound varies in intensity and sonic frequency. This is different than simple a/c hum or a noisy air vent in a conference room - stuff that has a consistant frequency and volume.
The problem with wind is that it also works in the same frequencies as human voice - which means when you knock down the wind, you also diminish the voices.
I've used a plugin called Sound Soap Pro (not the simpler SoundSoap) from Bias for a number of years. It works within STP and has sophisticated noise reduction capabilities. It is not inexpensive but if your client is footing the tab, it may be less expensive than a reshoot. (It must also be said there is also no guarantee SSP will clean up the audio to an acceptable level...)
    Good luck,
    x
