Window 8 WiFi problem with Cisco wireless network

Anyone encounter a Windows 8 WiFi authentication problem with Cisco wireless network?
We are using WLC 5508, 7.2.111, and AP 3602i with WPA2.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

This problem occurred with Soney, and Dell models.  Lenovo with Windows 8 factory installed is working fine.
Won't make any difference as these laptop's wireless NIC cards are different.
Can you try with OPEN authentication.  If the Sony and/or Dell laptop works, then you start cranking up the security and/or encryption settings until you break them.
I'm with Scott here:  It's got to be a wireless NIC card driver.
As what George has stated, post the debug of the failed attempts.

We currently are using a Cisco 4400 wireless controller with an older Cisco Secure ACS appliance that is going EOL.  My hope was to just connect our 4400 Wireless Controller to a Windows Server 2008 Radius Server (Just using Microsoft's Network Policy Server) but have not had any luck in getting this to work.  Does anyone have an easy to follow set of instructions on configuration of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 NPS for use with Cisco Wireless Controllers?  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

  • Airport Express Problem with Wired/Wireless networks simultaneously

    Hello,
I'm having trouble maintaining a connection with my AX (2012) in a work environment.  Basically, I have a Win 7 laptop connected via ethernet to the internet/corporate net.  I have configured the AX to create a separate wifi network that does not connect to the internet. In order to connect to the AX, I have to disable both the Ethernet adapter and the WLAN adapter, enable the WLAN adapter, connect it to the AX's network, and wait for it to show up in the utility.  Only then can I re-enable the ethernet adapter for internet access.  Then, inevitably, the connection dies within 15 minutes and I have to repeat the whole process.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here?  Is the wired network interfering with the wireless network?  Is something configured wrong?  Below is the output from ipconfig/all, if that helps.  The AX is configured with a 169.254 range. IP address and behaves the same way whether the IP address is auto or manual, and there is no difference if the signal roams channels or is fixed to a single channel (I've played with them all).
Thanks in advance for your help.

Here goes - read this through completely and see if it makes sense:
    1.  Reset the Express to factory settings by unplugging it and plugging it back in while holding in the reset button - release the button when the light starts blinking - then wait for the light to blink slowly indicating factory default.
    2.  Disable the wireless and enable the ethernet on the laptop and connect an ethernet cable to the WAN port (the circle of dots) of the Express and use the AU toset it up in bridge mode to create a wireless network with a name of your choice - you don't really need a password but you can assign one if you wish - if you do not use a password you will have to choose to ignore the error message for no security.
    3.  Accept all other defaults and ignore any messages about not having an internet or ethernet connection and update or finish the setup - if you get a blinking amber light, open the AU and correct any error messages.
    4. You can now disconnect the ethernet cable and disable the ethernet on the laptop and enable the wireless so you can stream iTunes to the Express - the laptop must stay wireless to do this - you can not accesss both at the same time - you can also use an iPhone or iPad or iPod to use Airplay and then you can use the laptop via ethernet for the internet.
    5.  To access the Express from now on, you have to use the AU wirelessly from the laptop.
The above is assuming that you don't currently have wireless in your office - the other alternatives are:
    1.  To hardwire the Express and have it create a wireless network and access the internet - you could then use your laptop wirelessly or wired to connect to the Express and use Airplay and your pc at the same time.
    2.  If your office has wireless, you can set up the Express to "join" the existing network - you can then do the same as in number 1.
I hope this helps - everyone's situation is different - the above scenarios work for me - you might have to do some tweaks but the info is there - let me know if you have any questions.

  • Problems with DSL wireless network finding Airport Express to play music

Can anyone help me out here....
I have an airport express that I can not get my wireless network to find. I plug it into the ethernet to set it up then it reads.... "AirPort Utility was unable to find your base station after restarting. The settings for this base station have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the base station. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again." I am not trying to do nothing more then plug a powered speaker into it to stream my itunes to another room. Im not trying to use it as a bridge or anything like that. I am using a verizon supplied Westall DSL modem/router.

Hi. I think that you want to set up your Airport Express as a client to your router. The information is here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153
Be sure to disable your WEP on your router otherwise your AE won't be able to communicate with it. You can restablish it when you are done.
Another point is that, when using WEP, the airport express might create a different HEX key than your router -- even if you use the same passphrase. Check your router's hex number, copy and paste that into the space provided in the Airport Express's admin utility.
Make sure that you identify your SSID on the Airport Express, too.

  • Problem with Airport wireless network utilising a Time Capsule. No internet connection?

Right, I have an Apple Mac and I am creating a Wireless network with an Apple Time Machine. I have had both devices for approx 2 years, they have be fine to date - until I now have the following issue: The Wirless network has been created and can be connected to but that network isn't then connected to the internet. IN have checked with the Cable network provider Virgin and there is a network without proplem provided to the Modem - I have also connected an ethernet cable to direct to the Mac and connected to the www, no probs. I have also asttempted to reset and set up my time capsule / airport again howver the same problem arises. When I go to network Diagnostics I Have a green light for the following; Airport, Airport Settigns, Network Settings,Network Settings, ISP then an amberlight for Internet and server.....Please assist!!!! Is this an ISP address issue. Welcome any help, Thanks in advance. Jimbob

    Sounds like chaos..
How many outlets are we talking about and what specific equipment?
Do you really need routers on every one? How many clients do you use?
Basically there are three non-overlapping channels on 2.4ghz.. using more than three routers in the house is pointless as they will just interfere with each other.. range on 2.4ghz should be sufficient to reach at least half a normal house from one AP. If not there are better high power routers available.
And there should be just one device that is the main router.. all the other routers should be bridged/ wan bypassed so they are merely AP and switch. Otherwise NAT will cause issues to devices stuck behind a secondary router.

  • Problems reading other  wireless network.

    Hello everyone,
I am writing this message because in the last weeks I have been having a problem with my wireless network on my macbook. Every time that I open the computer it reads another network first and not the one that is mine. My other computer, ipad and ipod touch are reading the network that I own, but this macbook is not reading it first. I always have to go to network settings and changes it.
Any advice or help in that regard? I will appreciate it.
    Thank you.
    Luis

    Hi
Go into System Preferences... > Network
Select AirPort from the list on the left and then your usual Location
Click Advanced and select the AirPort tab
Delete ALL networks EXCEPT your own from the list of nearby networks
    Click on OK, Apply, etc

  • I have been using 3 devices with my wireless network, and suddenly none of them work.  I've tried turning off the modem and router but that hasn't fixed the problem.

I've been using iPhone, iPad and MacBook with my wireless network, and suddenly, none of them will connect.  The first sign I had that there ws a problem was when I was asked multiple times to re-enter the password, but regardless of how many times I did so it wasn't successful.  I've tried turning off and on the moden and router but that doesn't help.  Suggestions please?

go into the routers setup and redo the setup like it have disabled the whole wifi system
how you set it up depend on the router you own consult the manual or go to the router maker's website

  • Connectivity Problems with Cisco WRT610n

I've recently started to get problems with the wireless connection to my WRT610n wireless router.  The mac drops the internet connection periodically - 3 or 4 times a day.  I've run both iStumbler and WIFi analyser and it doesn't seem to be the wireless connection that's dropping - just the ISP.  When I try to connect to a website I just get "contacting....." in the safari status bar.  The only way to re-connect is to switch airport to the other WiFi band.
It happens on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.  There are other low-band users on the same channel so I've hard coded to a channel that isn't being used.  I've deleted all the local wireless services that I don't use from the networks list.  I've blown the latest firmware into the router  - none of thiese has made a difference.  When it occurs, running the macbook network analyitics shows wireless green and ISP red - but I can still connect using iPhone and windows PC - so the ISP hasn't dropped.
Interestingly, while trying to fix this problem I discovered another.  I cannot connect wirelessly to the router's set-up page - I have to ethernet into it. This is only a problem for the Macbook;  iPhone and PC can both see the router's set-up page via wireless whereas the macbook just says "contacting.....".  I don't know if these two problems are related, but I know that in the past I *have* been able to connect macbook wirelessly.
I've got a macbook pro 13 inch - I bought it in about May this year.
    2.7 GHz processor - Core i7
    8GB memory
    1333 MHz DDR3
    OS 10.6.8
All software up to date - including router's firmware.
    S/N 25 to 35 dB
Thanks in advance for any help.

Right, few more R&D's now and it gets even crazier...
I installed Ubuntu and it has no problem detecting Wifi on My Mac.
The craziest thing though is, when i hold the OPTION key while the system boots, we know that we can connect to Wifi from there, and indeed I was able to do that!!
And, once I select MacintoshHD, it boots but we are back to square one, no wifi detected yet again. If Wifi gets detected though, I'm getting this "Connection Timeout" errors.
Well, I guess I have to just accept that 10.8.4 doesn't just work with the Linksys router!!

  • MacBook Pro will not connect to Cisco Wireless Network

I have just bought a brand new MacBook Pro, running Leopard (OSX 10.5.1) and I just cannot get it to connect to the Wireless Network at my workplace.
The MBP connects to wireless network and authenticates just fine, but will not obtain an IP address from the DHCP server.
The wireless network consists of 16 Cisco Aironet 1200 Access Points controlled by a Cisco Wireless Network Controller. It does not broadcast its SSID and is WEP 128-bit hex protected.
Changing the network from WEP to WPA is out of the question for me as this is under the control of my customers IT Department and they do not have any problems with their PCs connecting to the network. It appears to be an Apple issue.
For reference, my old Vaio PC, my Nokia N95 and my iPod Touch ALL connect to the same wireless network without any problems whatsoever, first time, every time!
If I boot into Windows XP from my Boot Camp partition, XP can connect wirelessly to the network without any problems, so it is not MacBook hardware related...
It has to be a bug in Mac OSX... doesn't it?!?
Things I have already tried (following suggestions on many forums):
    * Switching Airport off/on
    * Deleting various network-related Plist files and rebooting
    * Manually assigning an IP Address (not really permitted but doesn't work anyway!)
    * Disabling all network adaptors except Airport
AP Grapher shows that the MBP is connected to the wireless network, at good strength, and packets are being sent and received, but Internet Access is not possible as no IP Address has been assigned. Instead, my MBP shows a 169.* IP Address (self-assigned). It should be a 10.1.255.* address.
Can anybody please help? Thank you.

i posted this same reply elsewhere because it worked for me for my Buffalo wireless router: try manually setting your IP address instead of relying on DHCP, which sometimes (I don't know why) doesn't work well with Macs. It's a good get around. I am a happy Mac user but nothing is perfect on earth, and when the Mac gives problems, it does give a lot of frustration. Macs are not as easy to troubleshoot as Win because a Mac is built to be user friendly(and it works most of the time), meaning a lot of the background computing stuff is hidden away from users to avoid user accidentally upsetting some settings.
Unfortunately, the highly automated troubleshooting wizards provided by OS X are not perfect so when these software wizards fail to resolve the problem, like my Network Diagnostics, I have to spend more time tinkering around. There's "Terminal" of course but then most of us, especially PC converts to Macs, don't know how to use it.
You should also try updating your MBP, see if there are any new updates being released.

  • Mac mini not keeping connection with Cisco wireless access point

I am trying to get my wife's Mac Mini to keep it's connection with the wireless network at her school. They are using a Cisco access point (not sure of the model) which works fine with my G4 Powerbook and the numerous Macbooks being used there, but for some reason her Mac Mini drops the connection after 4 or 5 minutes, at which point she needs to log right off for it to reconnect (as opposed to just turning the card off and on again). I have already gone through the deletion of the Networkinterfaces.plist file, and recreation of the Airport card profile process, but this only kept the interface active for about 36 hours, then it was back to the same old problem. At this point I am thinking "flakey card"...before I ship it off to Apple, can anyone offer any other possible solutions?

After spending time on the phone with a Apple support technician, he indicated that the Iphone has a compatibility problem with the wep key encryption that the Cisco appliance uses. I find this disturbing being that Cisco is the biggest in network gear. What's UP Apple? We need SP1 for the IPHONE!!!

  • Wifi problems with new ipad

I'm trying to learn how to correct wifi problems with new iPad.  It is the wifi only, 64GB model.  I want to be able to use it at work, where we have a great wifi network.  I can usually connect to our network with no problem, but after an hour or so my iPad loses the network.  When I try to reconnect, I see that the network is showing full strength reception, but I get the error message from the iPad that I am "Unable to join" the network.  My iPhone connects to the same network seamlessly, as do all of the other iPhones of my co-workers and the older generation iPads that some of our staff has.
At other locations, I typically have no problems (home, apple store, etc.) but I have had the same situation pop up at a coffee shop where I could see that there was a wifi network available, but I could not join it even though it was the shop's free wifi.
I have tried turning the iPad off, turning off wifi and turning it back on again, and forgetting the wifi network in question.  I can't think of any other methods that are available to an end user to correct the problem.
I have already gone to the Apple store to swap out the unit, and the newer one is having the same symptoms.
Can anyone offer any advice here?  This is quite frustrating.

  • Problems with Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Tour BlackBerry OS 4.7.1.61 update:

Problems with Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Tour BlackBerry OS 4.7.1.61 update - I was anxious to download the update to see if it addressed the sticky trackball problems and the low volume issue when using a blue tooth device. However, in the process of updating my BB Tour yesterday, the install stopped on the 8th out 12 updates. After a couple of 'retrys', the BB error message on the desktop came up which instructed me to: i) disconnect the device, ii) restart the computer. iii) restart the loading process and, iV) restore my data by loading the loader back-up file using Restore. Unfortunately my Tour was left without any software and the Desktop manager couldn't recognize it. The error message on the Tour was 503. Called Verizon Wireless tech and bottom line, the only fix is a new Tour, which they're sending me. Anyone else having issues with the update? Also, does it address the trackball and blue tooth issues?

I had issues with the trackball and had to have my Tour replaced.  I was told this model does not have a removable trackball so the entire phone has to be replaced.  My current one is working OK but does stick a bit.  Seems to get worse over time.  My wife's tour is newer and so far she is not experiencing the problem.  Have not experienced a problem with the Blue Tooth volume.
I have another issue with this upgrade that I am wondering if anyone else has seen.  My wife has the Tour as well.  She was prompted to do the upgrade and went through it.  It appeared to work except it blew out her Contact Alerts.  When we put them back in we can no longer get the sound to play when she receives an SMS message in her holster. Vibration works but doesn't do any good when it is in her purse.  Phones calls, calendar alerts, alarms all work in holster.  As soon as we delete the contact alert the default SMS alert will play in the holster.  If she takes her phone out of the holster the Contact alert will play.  My phone is still running 4.7.1.40 and this function works fine.  I am thinking about trying to put her's back to my version if possible but not sure the best way to go about this

  • Trouble with Apple Wireless networks

I have aan extended wireless network in our house, across four apple wireless devices: Time Capsule (which is the lead device), an airport extreme (dual-band), an airport extreme (dual band II) and an Airport Express 802.11n.
The dual-band II is a new device and since I have incorporated it i have had issues with the wireless network that only seem to be solved if we turn the Express off.  The Express is in a Kitchen, which is beneath a study where the Extreme dual band II is.
Does anyone have any idea why there might be a problem (seems like some kind of wave interference) and how i solve it.  I put the express in the kitchen so I could connect it to a Sonos device, which then allows me to use airplay with the Sonos.
    Regards
    Edward

Since all of your AirPorts are 802.11n models, you can only have one base station that will be extended. You can have more than one to extend it. So, in this case, the two 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Stations (AEBSn) & the AXn would be attempting to extend the wireless range of the Time Capsule (TC).
Think of it as the TC is at the hub of a wheel and each of the extending base station would be on individual spokes of that wheel. The issue here would be the farther away an extending base station is, the less bandwidth that will be available at that part of the extended network ... and possibly why you are getting the results that you are.
By default, the AXn (or any AirPort will not be set to extend a network. You would have to set this as an option within the AirPort Utility. If you didn't already do this for the AXn, then it would be in its default configuration of a wireless router that would be broadcasting its own wireless network ... and NOT extending the TC's network.

I'm attempting to setup AX with Windows XP. I have a 802.11g Dlink router (DI-524) that I typically connect to using my work laptop. The PC has a direct connection to the router. The AX constantly flashes amber. I tried hard reseting the AX. When I run Airport Admin Utility on my PC the AX does not show up. However, I can see it using my laptop in the wireless connections. When I open Airport Setup Assistant I get the following error "This computer has no wireless interface enabled or Windows is not setup to manage wireless networks on this computer. If you have....."
I'm not sure what do do from here. Appreciate any help.

I have a Qwest wireless modem (model 2701hg-d) and am trying to set up the Airport Express (AX) to use already existing wireless network wirelessly (ie without the ethernet cable). Is this possible?
In order to set it up I have the AX plugged into the modem via an ethernet cable. I have reset the AX and then run the Admin Utility. Once it recognizes the AX I then go to the Airport tab and select 'Join an Existing wireless Network (wireless client)' and then enter in the Network Name exactly as it is spelled in my modem configuration. I check the 'Internet' tab and it says connect using: Wireless Network adn the 'Network' tab is grayed out. Then I hit update and the admin utility no longer lists the AX and the AX light is blinking amber. Not sure what is going on. I am using v6.2 of the firmware.
Do I need to use WDS?
Also, does anyone know if multiple speaker selection is available for itunes pc like it is in itunes mac? Currently I can only play either my computer speakers OR my kitchen speakers.
