Window in safari only opens as "untitled"...how do i restore??

Hi
New to Apple and Safari..also not experienced with technical problems.
On my main admin account my New Window opens with an "Untitled"page don't know why!
On my second non admin account the window opens fine.  How do i get my regular window back?? And why did this happen?
Please help..I need simple instructions if possible.
thanks

Sometimes if you can't delete something that means there could be a permissions issue.  Have you tried 'repair permissions' in Disk Utility? (/Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app)
If that doesn't correct the issue, then boot to your restore CD #1 and when it finishes loading, you will be asked what language to use.  Choose your preference, then it will load a menu bar at the top, where one of the menu items is 'Utilities'. Choose 'Reset Password' from the utilities menu, and select your hard drive in the next window that comes up, which will then give you a list of all user accounts on that drive.  Instead of resetting your password, though, just choose the 'reset ACL for this account' button, then quit the installer and restart your computer.
Now, if you still can't delete something, then the fact that it only shows up in one account means that the problem is not with a system file, but with something in your "/Macintosh HD/Users/youradminaccount/Library/" folder.
I would probably start by quitting Safari then moving the entire 'Safari' folder right out of your 'Library' folder, say, to your desktop, temporarily. Also do the same for 'com.apple.safari.plist' in your library's 'Preferences' folder.  Relaunch Safari and see if it does the same thing still.
If that didn't solve it, and all other advice in this discussion thread doesn't help, then what specifically is causing your issue may need hands-on inspection by someone with experience in Mac filesystems that knows their way around the library folders so that anything unusual will stick out like a sore thumb and they can correct it.

Why do some videos opened/played from Safari only open to about a 2" square. Can't get a full screen view? I have Safari 5.0.6 and QuickTime Player 7.7. Thanks

    Hi, Daryl -
If you moved the G4 around to make room for the new machine, that could have jarred the processor loose. It's not unusual for that to happen to an older machine, though it usually happens to RAM or cables, not to the processor.
Years of heating and cooling can loosen a connection and cause some oxidation of the contacts; subsequent moving of the machine, coupled with just a bit of thumping or torquing of the chassis, can cause the connection to fail. Reseating the connection not only makes it secure again, it usually wipes the oxidation off of the contacts.

  • Itouch safari only opens links in new windows

It only started a little while ago but my itouch suddenly ONLY opens link in new windows which can get frustrating. Anyone know if this is normal now or if there is a problem I can fix?

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences and select Tabs from the Menu. Perhaps your settings changed after the update.
Also, if you didn't repair disk permissions after the Safari 5 update, it would be beneficial to do that.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • How to make one firefox window`s actions duplicate on all opened firefox windows. duplicating tabs only opens the original source of page, not current page view

I want to know is there a way to open, say 3, Firefox windows and duplicate the actions done on one to happen across all open Firefox windows. I want to use the repeat feature, left click followed by ENTER the whole time on a current thing I'm working on. The tabs won't work because I have to flip through them the whole time. I'm currently doing this on two computers at the same time but need an easier way. If I duplicate tabs, it only opens the original source of the page I duplicate and not the current page I'm viewing so its a time taking process to click on the links where I need to be then start doing the control+tab. Speed is a major issue so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am still trying to figure out what it is you are trying to do.
You have X number of pages open, and you want what you do to one page
to also be repeated on the other pages? Most browsers think that multiple
    pages are individual, and separate.
What is it you are working on? No secured information, please.

  • In Full Screen mode Safari only opens new tabs?

Safari 5.1 has a preference that lets you set whether or not targeted links open into new tabs or new windows.
In regular screen mode, this preference works as expected.
In Full Screen mode (Lion), this preference seems to be ignored, and Safari always opens targeted links into new tabs.
Is there a preference I'm missing to set this behavior for Full Screen mode?
The reason I ask is that I would love to use the swipe gesture to switch between different web pages I have open, and so far Safari only seems to use gestures in Full Screen mode to switch between windows, not tabs.

  • Safari only opens blank pages

Please help! My safari will not load any pages. It attempts to load a page but nothing happens. It seems to stall when loading... I can open a new tab but every address I type in will not load. I've tried to force quit- no luck. I've tried to log into safari a as guest and check safari and no luck. I rebooted, and even safe mode rebooted and no luck. What should I try next?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari only opens browser window when holding shift down at launch

I find this a bit odd.
I was having Safari (v3.2.1) problems in that it was hanging only a few seconds after launch and followed the advice I read on a couple of threads to launch Safari holding down the shift key.
I'm not sure if it was that or re-installing Safari or resetting it or deleting preferences or caches because by the time it had started working again I had done all of the above so many times I had lost count. That said, re-installing Safari on its own might not have worked but carrying out all the other procedures afterwards seems to have done something.
Anyway, I'm now left with this weird issue that when I launch Safari I don't get a window. I can't get one by choosing 'New Window' from the 'File' menu either. But if I hold down 'shift' when I launch Safari it seems to work OK. So, I can get it to work but it is far from ideal. Any suggestions, please?

    Hi HS,
    Thanks for that.
I've had so many problems with Safari over the last 24 hours or so that I have carried out all the procedures I have found on here - including the one you suggest) numerous times. Of course, I forgot that when I delete the preferences, this setting reverts to its default state, i.e. on. Hence it was on when I checked. I've deselected it now and it seems to be working. I'm not being too optimistic, though, as I have been at this point before and it has all gone terribly wrong again in a very short time - back to Safari hanging after a few seconds.
For now, everything is working OK but I feel like I'm walking on egg shells. I'm actually posting this in Firefox.

  • Safari only opening in a shrunken size?

I haven't changed anything that I'm aware of but now safari doesn't open at full size (I don't mean full screen). It's like a 1/4 of it's full size and I have to hit the green button. Any ideas how I can get to open full?
    Thanks

Drag out the Safari window from the bottom right corner to the desired size.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
It should re open to the same size.

  • Why does Safari only open links in foreground?

Safari in a search engine is nearly worthless. Links open in new windows that come into the foreground. An option to open new window in background would be good; even better: tabs in iPad Safari.

FWIW, I wouldn't use safari due to it's security problems. Apple still hasn't fixed the holes in the mobile version of it's browser. http://money.cnn.com/2010/06/14/technology/attipadhack/

  • Chase Bank on Safari only opens mobile site

Whenever I open the Chase app on my iPhone, the next time I go to Chase.com on Safari on my MacBook Pro I only get the mobile site.  I'm tired of having to clear my history and website data to get it to work right.  This is all since Yosemite.
    Any help?

In the General pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices

If you found Safari in the Trash it was probably the Safari.app itself. Icons on the Dock do not go into Trash. They drag off and "Poof".
That means that the app, itself is on your Desktop. Choose it and Get Info (command-i). Does it say, "Safari.app"? Drag it back into /Applications folder. Then drag your icon off the Dock and create a new one by dragging Safari.app to the Dock. It will create an alias which is all the Dock icons are.
The question mark means an alias has lost the path to the application. Have your other users drag it off the Dock and drag it from the applications folder to create a new alias on the Dock.

  • Safari only opens secure websites

    Hello,
I connect to the internet wireless through my Time Capsule. I just returned from vacation, plugged everything back in, and now I can only connect to https sites. For example, http://www.gmail.com hangs up, but https://www.gmail.com loads. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
I've been messing around with settings for about an hour with no luck. The network diagnostic says everything is working fine.
Thank you for your help in advance.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Go to the Apple Menu / Software Updates. Make sure your system software is up to date, especially Safari.

  • I lost the menu/toolbar at top of Firefox window. No 'File', 'Bookmarks' etc. How do I restore it?

I was trying to find the Edit Options button referred to in the ADOBE READER INSTALLATIONS INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOZILLA FIREFOX, and clicked on the first toolbar listed under the Tools button I think, because I did not see what the instructions were saying to look for. The menu/toolbar is gone, so I cannot access my Bookmarks etc.
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == About ten minutes ago.

The instructions on the Adobe site are outdated and do no longer apply to current Firefox versions and you can ignore those instructions and save the Adobe installer to your desktop and start the installation with a double-click on that file.
See [[How do I edit options to add Adobe to the list of allowed sites]]
