Window layout? Adding Black filler?

Two questions:
How do I get the window layouts to match in size?
I set both the sequence and capture to anamorphic.
Both windows are set to 100%- but they do not match.
I am getting the full image, but in one window- the image fills the frame- while the other displays the image shrunk with black bars- top and bottom.
I don't care if the image displays full screen or shrunken down. I just want the image to display the same on both windows.
My second question is how do you add Black to a sequence?
On Avid I can choose "load filler" command. I can then mark an IN and OUT point and drop it in between a cut in the sequence. How can I do this in FCP?

try button at top just left of center of the viewer or canvas window, select 'fit to window'
Or, Main Menu Bar/View/Level/Fit to Window.
Or, Main Menu Bar/Window/Arrange...several presets here or save your own 'window layout'
You can also manually adjust the size/shape of the windows at very bottom right of each window.

Windows Server 2008 black screen with mouse *PLEASE HELP*

Hello fellow techs,
I have been tearing my hair out for the past 12hrs on this issue.
About 3 weeks ago, one of our clients reported that they were experiencing
issues on the network so one of the staff went into the server room and noticed
the screen was black with only the cursor. As they couldn't reboot, they
decided to hold the power button to power it off. When they powered it back
up, it went passed the windows loading
splash screen, and again the screen is black with
the mouse pointer in the center of the screen.
I am diagnosing the server and find that at the black screen, I’m able to move
the cursor and beyond that nothing happened. I started in safe mode with the
exact same results.
I have been trying many different solutions from posts that I have found in
Google but no change.
From other machines you can type \\servername in
the run box and see the shared folders, as well as ping it.
This is a very urgent request as I need to have the Server back up and running
by tomorrow.
I am quiet willing to pay for phone support with anyone that can assist as soon

I agree with sm, you should give us more details. Also you should use sfc /scannow
command to scans the integrity of all protected system files and repairs files with problems when possible. For more details, please refer to the following article.

Before going further, would you please let me know whether there were any changes on the affected server? Has windows update or any new device been added? Please also check your shadow copies.
The Windows Server black screen may be caused by them.

Profile selection window is just black when I open FF

1. Start FF.
2. Profile selection window opens as expected.
3. Profile selection window is completely black, no text or other contols are visible.
4. If I press enter, FF starts with the last used profile as expected.
Expected behaviour:

Problems with black fills in live trace(d) eps images in Word and certain printers

Hi folks, PLEASE help me with this if you know a possible solution. I regularly run Live Trace in Illustrator CS3 on my grayscale bmp or tiff scanned images, save them as an eps, then folks in other departments insert them into Microsoft Word pages. Sometimes these images display in Word with unintended black fills, and some printers print them out with the same corrupted appearance, yet some other printers print them fine (even if the display in Word shows them with the unintended black fills). I THINK this might be a postscript issue (?). I don't have the option of telling everyone to change from Word to InDesign (which would absolutely solve the problem immediately). Is there something I can set while performing Live Trace? They really need the eps files, so I don't have the option of saving them as another format. HELP! Thanks...

I use Mac at home and love it. At work, we use PC platform. I can't save as a pdf because they need to stay vector graphics. he departments want us to save the eps in version 8 because they're STILL using Windows 2003 (ugh). I keep thinking there must be something I can do while in Live Trace because we've never noticed any inintended black fills in graphics not created using Live Trace. Somehow, Word and some printers are not interpreting some postscript language correctly. InDesign has zero issues with it. Some printers have no problem with it, so I assume they are postscript printers. There's got to be a way I can still save as an eps but without the postscript conflict (IF that's what it is).

DWM Teething Issues: Window layouts and Titlebar reconfiguration

I just need a couple of pointers in the right direction.
I have switched to DWM from Awesome and would like to bring a few of conveniences of Awesome over to DWM.
1. Is there a way to make window layouts a little more "dynamic" if you'll pardon the pun?
Mod+t, f, m have no effect on some of the windows on a given tag. For example the tag is set such that the window starts in floating mode. Now I can't maximize it.
Another example, if a window is floating I can maximize it (Mod+m) but then Mod+{t,f} won't return it back to the shape it was in previosuly. The window remains maximized.
2. Is there a way to change the length of the title/tag bar and make it half as long? I plan to fill in the rest of the space with Conky.
Or what can be suggested to use up that extra space at the top?

3. Is there a way to toggle between show/hide all windows in a tag? So that when the windows are hidden the desktop gets exposed.
No. Since you're willing to accept a paradigm shift, the first (and maybe hardest) thing every new dwm user needs to learn is that tags are not workspaces. Awesome users seem to use tags as regular workspaces (I know I sure did ); I'm not really sure how that arose or why it's never been corrected, but trust me, using tags the "right" way is so much better.
If you just like being able to see your wallpaper every now and again, there are two ways you might do that. First, you could use the emptyview patch. This would also work well if you have, say, conky running on the root window and want to periodically check some info. The second method (which I use) is to use a screen locker like i3lock or xscreensaver to display an image when the screen locks. When you're actually working with a tiling window manager you won't be able to see your wallpaper anyway.
4. I was also searching for a way to automatically switch to another tag when an app gets run on said tag.
See "Tags Are Not Workspaces," above. There are definitely times when it's best to work with a single window in a view, but I don't like it when applications grab focus from me, so I'm not sure how you might get that to work. In any case, if you're launching a terminal window or some such and just need to view a window's contents for a minute or two, toggling the tag into view should suffice.

My 27 inch imac has just started acting weird, the thumbnail images and folder on the desktop have disappeared although the titles are still visible. When I open a programme the programme windows are all black and the drop down menus just show random

When I tried to open the web browser the browser flashed black and white at start up, then all the applications when i open a new window are completely black, I am unable to view the drop down menus as the come out as random pixels. This happens to all new applications i have been able to open. The document window opens as plain white but if you click on it it opens a document even though you cant see any thumb nails. Some of the documents are open as normal images/files. Having been a mac user for 10 years i have never seen anything like this before, any ideas or suggestions

I have started running a virus check.
There are no viruses for OSX. Uninstall the software, repair permissions and restart your computer. Especially if it's Norton's. It's known to cause problems.

Had the same issues. For me, I found unmounting any external drives and relaunching FCPX worked.
Mavericks seems to have some issues with launching Final Cut, so its best to launch and then plug in any external drives - hope that helps.

Hey everyone!
Some background info:
I built my computer ~2 years ago and it worked fine for about half a year, until it crashed. Since then I've been unable to reinstall Windows and I kinda forgot about it... which sucks! So please help me get it up and running again :)
Motherboard: GigaByte Z68
Processor: Intel Core i3
HDD: Seagate Barucada 1TB (st31000524as)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
My problem:
When I boot from the windows cd (original), sometimes I get stuck at a black screen after "Windows is starting" or the black "loading files" screen. Sometimes it just takes a while but I eventually get to the install menu.
When I am about to chose my hdd, it says it can't install on it. I deleted all partitions, created a new one and formated it (took about 1 hour), still not able to install.
I tried booting from my GigaByte cd, and it went through some kind of install (not sure what it did, it was weird because it's actually made for backups). After I chose "reboot" I was able to install on my hdd again. But after I got to 100% i got
stuck at the black screen again! I waited for a couple hours before I had to turn it off, so I'm back where I started. :/
I always google stuff, and people said the black screen problems could be related to other drives/usb stuff connected to my pc. I only have 1 hdd and 1 usb for mouse/keyboard... I tried disconnecting it but it didnt work and also it doesnt make sense since
I need to reconnect it to click on stuff anyway...
People also said I should try booting with F8 and choose "low res", didn't work either. Other people said "connect a secondary screen", I have a hdmi screen and a rgb screen, I tried all combinations of them and nothing seemed to work...
I also have some confusion with the XHD/RAID/IDE/AHCI settings. I am only using one HDD, so I figured AHCI makes more sense for me - sine i have a SATA hdd and windows 7 64 bit.
However, when I load "Optimized System Defaults" from BIOS, it sets SATA mode to IDE...? When I reboot I get a warning screen that says the system is running in IDE mode and I should switch to AHCI for optimal performance.
How do I know if my system supports AHCI or not, what should I use?
Whenever I select IDE, and I enter Windows installation, it can't even find my hdd!
Only when I select AHCI it finds the hdd, but it won't let me install on it.
I've been strugling for DAYS, so i REALLY appreciate help. :) Also, I've tried making "boot cds/usb", and I have no experience with linux so it's really frustrating. Please don't suggest going linux unless it's really necessary. :( I only have a Knoppix
live CD, but I find the whole linux system so confusing I wasn't really able to do anything, despite several "guides" and youtube videos. I have a computer that's barely been used and a original windows CD, shouldn't I have all I need to repair my

I am not sure which specific issue that is, but it definitely sounds like a hardware issue rather than a software or settings issue. Windows should not have any issues installing; if it does, that would usually point to a hardware issue of some sort.
It could even be your motherboard. Your best bet is to disconnect EVERYTHING that is not needed from the motherboard, including RAM sticks except for the least amount possible, and try installing Windows with that configuration.
Example: you need the power supply, so connect that. If you're installing from a CD/DVD, then you need a CD/DVD drive. You need at least 2 GB of RAM. You need to be able to turn on the computer, so the on/off switch needs to be connected
to the motherboard. You will need a mouse and keyboard. And so on. If this bare-minimum configuration does not work, start replacing items: use a different RAM stick, use a different mouse, use a different keyboard, etc. If, after you
do all this, it still does not work, then I would suspect that your motherboard has an issue. You can also try resetting the CMOS on your motherboard. Some motherboards have a jumper for that, and for others, simply removing the CMOS battery will
do it.
As far as IDE, AHCI, and RAID settings are concerned, this should not matter so long as whichever setting it is on when Windows is installed is the same after it is installed. For example, if it is installed using IDE, then you need to stick with IDE.
If you installed it with AHCI, then you need to stick with AHCI. Changing it after installation can make Windows not boot. There are, of course, ways around that, but it is easiest to simply be consistent.

In Photoshop Elements12 (with Windows 8.1) added titles to my pictures do not appear in Windows. Formerly, in PSE 6 (with Windows Vista) added tiltles also appeared in Windows.

Formerly using Photoshop Elements 6 with Windows Vista I could add (or change) titles to my pictures in the Organizer and find the same titles afterwards also in Windows. Nowadays using Photoshop Elements 12 with Windows 8.1 and adding titles to my pictures in the Organizer I do not find these titles in Windows any more. That makes me sad because I want to have the titles in Windows but adding the titles is much more comfortable in Photoshop Elements than in Windows. Please tell me: Is there a help for me?

Other than supplying the desktop "theme" (if you can call a complete lack of style along with a fair bit of inconsistency a "theme"), the OS really shouldn't be causing you to have a washed-out desktop experience. That's more a
matter of your display driver not really doing its job. What video card do you have?
FYI, one of the reasons I like Aero Glass for Win 8.1 (a 3rd party package) is that it allows me to make the desktop more pleasant to use and helps set the client areas (i.e., where work gets done) apart from the window chrome.
From what I can see, the color-management logic in Windows 8.1 is essentially unchanged from what it was in Windows 7. That there has been NO progress in this area is really a disappointment. It's an area where Microsoft has again just stopped
trying to make improvements.

FCP X freezes "Restoring the window layout"

Hello everybody,
I downloaded Final Cut Pro X, and at startup, the software freezes, showing "Restoring the window layout". I tried all the solutions indicated on the web, nothing works... (deleting preferences, deleting layout, using PreferecencesManger...)
Please help!

Well, this is one of those situationewhere deleting the preference file would actually be useful, because that is one of the things stored there - but you alreday did that...
Are you still on 10.6? Your profile says so.. although it has to be 10.6.8 then.. as FCPX does not run on previous versions.
Do you by any chance have a Window Manager or extension installed??

JAVA GUI window content does not fill out when window is enlarged (Win,Mac)

I've been using the SAP JAVA GUI on a Windows XP workstation as well as a couple of MacBooks running OS X over the last year and a half or so, running versions from 7.10 r 7(maybe earlier) thru 7.10 r 10 (installed today.) The GUI has performed generally well on these platforms, but has one major irritation.
When I open certain pop-up windows, such as the SPAD [List of Output Requests > Status Description |http://img171.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20091006at241.png/|screenshot], it usually does not open a large enough window to display all the data - one must scroll horizontally and/or vertically to see the entire window content. The real aggravation is that if [one enlarges the window|http://img101.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20091006at242.png/|screenshot] so as to see more data, the resizing is ignored. The contents of the window are still displayed within the original window boundaries instead of filling out the expanded window.   It is not possible to get the entire window contents displayed, it is still necessary to scroll around.
What am I missing here?   How can I get window resizing to work correctly?   (Or is there a way to make such windows at least open up at a larger initial size??)
I only found one other thread in this forum, Sap gui screen size in ubuntu., which seemed to be addressing the same problem, but the suggestion was to apply the latest patch to the GUI and get JAVA 1.6.   One would think that since that post in 2008, any patches would have made it into the latest revisions. I'm already running Java 1.6.

I've also updated my XP system to 7.10 rev 11 and both continue to display the same failure to resize corrrectly.

Given that installs on two separate operating systems have consistently misbehaved like this, I have a hard time believing it is something we are doing. (But not that hard...) I find it hard to believe that is the way these screens present on most SAP sites...

Window layout

In my final cut pro 7 settings i have made 5 personal window layouts.
I know where they are located: Users/your name/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Window Layouts.
Now i want to make another one.
When i try to save it, the window layout folder shows a small x and the 5 other layouts that are in the folder are grey.
So i can't save another preset window layout.
Does anyone know what is the problem?

and deleting fcp preferences

But you can save your windows layout to another location. Have you tried that? If that works, you could try to manaully move the layout file into the window layout folder

Can not select standard window layout,all other choices are available.
I have trashed the preferences.
The only change made was to select Prores high quality to see if the video quality was better than Prores std.
Using Log and Transfer from SDHC card which worked perfectly when Prores standard was used.
Have opend and closed FCP twice to check.

If contrl+U doens't work, you have a problem. Download Digital Rebellion's "Preference Manager" to trash preferences safely, it's free.
From what you're explaining, you're getting footage off of a DSLR camera. Use ProRes 422 on FCP6, ProRes (LT) on FCP7. HQ version of ProRes won't make it any better, and just make huge files sizes you don't need. ProRes (LT) supports up to 10-bit, 4:2:2 video, which is well beyond what you're recording.
