Folders always show up as read only.
You need to select the permissions tab on the iTunes folder properties.
Your account and SYSTEM should have full control.
It's worth checking this although I don't see why installing WMC should have changed them.
There is help on permissions here:

  • Windows Media Center - wont launch...due to Software Restriction Policy???

    Current system:
Windows Vista x64 Ultimate RETAIL installed onto clean system.
    UAC disabled
Using full administrator account w/ no restrictions
    Problem:
Anytime I attempt to launch Windows Media Center or Media Center Extender I receive the following popup error and the program does not attempt to to even start:
    Error:
    [Windows Media Center
"Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy.  For more information contact your system administrator."
    Summary:
When I initialy installed the OS, this problem did not exist.  I was able to launch WMC just fine.  Only after a couple month of reinstalling necessary base applications do I now get this error.  My family cannot even use it as an extender for the XBOX360 anymore.
From what i can tell there are a lot of people with this issue and NO SOLUTION from MS as yet.  I did see in one post that someone else had this error and was able to correct it by setting WMC as the default application in "Default Programs --> Set Program Access and Computer Defaults"  This did not work for me at all.  At this point I am at a complete loss.  Any insight would be appreciated.

For Windows 8 here was the solution that FIXED it for us:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/set-program-access-computer-defaults
To start, open the Set Program access and computer defaults page:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then clickSearch.)
Enter control panel in the search box, and then tap or click Control
    Panel.
    Under View by:, select Large
Icons, and then tap or click Default Programs.
Tap or click Set program access and computer defaults.
    Set program access
If you want to make a program inaccessible without uninstalling it, you can set it so it doesn't appear where programs are typically listed.
On the Set Program access and computer defaults page, under Choose
a configuration, tap or click Custom.
Clear the Enable access to this program check box next to the programs you want to make inaccessible,
and then tap or click OK.

  • 'Windows Media Center Receiver Service' stops and cannot be restarted

    Hi,
I have had some issues with running my Hauppage TV Tuners (WinTV-HVR-2200) on a new Windows 7 Home Premium Installation.
After installing the TV Tuner card, drivers and WMC support software - I am able to configure my TV channels through Windows Media Centre and all is working fine. I can watch and record TV, so it all seems to be OK. It is only AFTER I restart my computer
that I get an error 'Viewing/Listening Device is currently not available' when trying to watch TV in WMC again.
I troubleshooted this issue and found that 'Windows Media Centre Receiver Service' was not running and when I tried to restart the service (via services.msc) it comes up with the following error:
    "0x80070003: File path not found"
I have checked the Windows directory for ehrecvr.exe (the file that the service is linked to) and it is not corrupted or moved but I cannot re-link or restart the service.
I tried the following tasks to remedy the issue and none of them were successful:
Run SFC from cmd prompt - no issues were found
Changed the 'logon' details for the service from Network to Local
Changed the start type of the service from manual to automatic
Restored previous versions of windows - prior to windows updates
Re-install TV Tuner drivers and software
Updated to the latest drivers and software version of 'WinTV' (Hauppage TV Tuner Software)
Complete new installation of windows, including a format of the HDD - without installing additional third party software or anit-virus software
Re-seat the TV tuner in a new PCI slot
The only way that I am able to remedy the issue is if I disable and then re-enable WMC via 'optionalfeatures'. This then allows the service to start again, I can then configure my TV tuner in WMC but it still has issues after restarting the PC!
It would appear that by configuring the TV tuners in WMC, it causes a conflict in the service so that it cannot be restarted after it is stopped. Note: I can start/stop the service with the TV tuner cards installed on my PC - it is only when I configure
the TV channels in WMC that it then has issues.
I have had these TV tuners running without any issues for over 2 years; however I have upgraded the motherboard and CPU and this issue has only just started happening. I am at a loss of what to look at next...
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

    I shall suggest you :
    1. uninstall WinTV software and reinstall WMC from the scratch.
    2. Disable AV or any other internet security application during configuring WMC.
    3. Update the TV Tuner card driver from Hauppage's website (only WMC driver and no other application)
    Run Setup Again.
Open WMC > Tasks > Settings > General > Windows Media Center Setup > Run Setup Again
    Does it help?
If the above doesn't help then try resetting WMC:-
Open Control Panel > Uninstall a Program > Turn Windows Features on or off > Scroll down to Media Features > Uncheck the box against Windows Media Center > Follow on screen instructions > Reboot > Again open Turn Windows Features on
or off under Control Panel > Scroll down to Media Features > Check the box against Windows Media Center.
    Now reconfigure WMC again

  • How can I convert the metadata tags on my mp4s to xml files so that they can be read in Windows Media Center?

I have a library with almost 3000 movies and TV shows that I have fully tagged. However, I have decided to start using Windows Media Center and it does its metadata tagging through XML files.  I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if there was a way to extract the metadata from those mp4s and convert them to a format that WMC could read?  Thanks!!!!

iTunes can make XML playlists so it might be all you need, I made a simple one file playlist and exported it from iTunes. The result is shown below. In principle I could delete the playlist and the entry from the library, as long as I don't delete the file, then later reimport the XML playlist file. I haven't tested this particular scenario, but I assume that iTunes will read all the properties as listed unless it can read some kind of tag from the file itself in which case the current value of the tag would take precedence.
What I don't know is what media center would make of this file, or what its files look like, however assuming they have a similar structure that can be decoded then it should be possible to read data from the iTunes library and write out a text file that will make sense to media centre.

  • How can I use the FM tuner in Windows Media Center?

    Hi everyone.
    New to the threads.
Found this site while looking for answers to a problem I'm having. ?:|
I received my Toshiba Satellite computer as a Christmas gift. I noticed it has a cool FM tuner feature.
I also have been playing around with Windows Media Center.
However, I cannot figure out how to operate the FM tuner inside WMC....?
I added the NXP FM tuner program to the "extras" on WMC, but instead of opening up the tuner inside WMC it just opens the separate program.
Does anyone know how I can use the FM tuner (or a different one perhaps?) inside WMC?
    Thank you! :)

    Hello
I don't have any experience with this because my Satellite doesnt have FM Tuner but nice discussion about it you can find under
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=138027
If you will find final solution it will be nice if you can describe own experience with it. It can be useful for other people here.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Actiontech router and Windows Media Center on Win8

While waiting for Verizon to solve their network problems and actually get light to the ONT, they left the actiontech router in my house, so I took sometime to get to know it.
It's definitelly something I don't want or need in my network. It's not a bad router if you didn't have a business class product from before (actually it is pretty much the best you can get short of going to hardware firewall routers in the class of Zyxel, Watchguard and some high end, business class, Dells, Ciscos and Netgears).
Well... needless to say, I am running such a router (a Watchguard XTM-26W) and have security subscriptions with them to protect my network. In addition, it offers functionality and discrete access controls otherwise impossible with consumer grade products.
Now, back to the basic subject: I noticed something ominous and wonder if anyone else has noticed it too. I run my TV service through a machine that uses a Ceton 4-HD PCI-E tuner card with a multistream cablecard. It is installed on top of Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit and I use Windows Media Center as my core TV interface (guide and all). The machine is set to go to sleep by itself if no activity (and TV it's the only thing designed and intended to do and the only thong it does) is detected on the tuner for 5 minutes. This works flawlesly  and always did while on Comcast service.
Now, the problem: you put the Actiontech router in the network (regardless of whether it's before or after the firewall gateway) and the machine fails to go to sleep. The router introduces some dort of chatter in the networkk that keeps the HDD active and the computer alive in perpetuity. Did anyone notice anything similar? What is your experience with this?
Obviously, I have no intent to keep the Actiontech router in the network under such conditions. For what I know, it is illegal in fact to put out products that send unsolicited traffic through one's network. Not to mention that it is a security risk. Might Verizon re-consider their insistence on deciding what routers to support and what don't or simply drop all support for all the routers since none is ever really needed? They only have the job to deliver a public IP to my equipment and I should be left alone otherwise (according to FCC). Which they otherwise fail to do by putting a piece of equipment that is theirs in the way and mandating that I use it, since 192.168.x.x is NOT a public IP, according to Internet Council.

    LeoZ wrote:
Actiontec responded to my inquiry. See below.
It turns out it's another Verizon problem...
"Honestly no idea what would cause the chatter on the network to prevent sleep\stand-by to function.
Verizon would have to review the issue and see what in the code programming would cause this."
Stop the chatter. Put your Media Center hardware behind another firewall. Like I said mine is Linux IP-COP, which constanty drops these trash packets from the single STB I have on the MOCA COAX.
All from the Verizon network router. Almost like a broadcast storm!
This is a Motorola STB, My Cisco had two real IP addresses asigned by DHCP, and they did not do this. I turned in all my STB hardware and ordered a single STB, and was sent Motorola when I had been using Cisco.
wan-1 in into my Linux box and lan-1 is out of it. Then all my harware which includes Media Center PCs are gigabit switches, not exposed to this. I guess you could use another router and not a Linux PC. This STB is going back soon.

  • Re: Satellite P - Windows Media Center issue

Without any visible virus problems or bug threats Windows Media Center starts to crack out in video release.
Simply random loosing pixels on a screen, and all other similar programs such as wmp, vlc media player, mv2 and Intervideo Win DVD working correctly?

I don't know what notebook model do you have exactly and what is wrong there but if you want to have well working Media Centre install OS using delivered recovery media.
After doing this it will work properly.
Maybe you have installed some codecs or some third part application that can have negative influence on WMC functionality. To be honest your posting doesnt offer some relevant info to this issue and it is not possible to say for sure what is wrong there.

  • Windows Media Center

I have a Pavilion p6724y PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit Service Pack 1 and I'm trying to view tv on my pc. The product code is QP720AA#ABA. When I go to the tv options internet tv is not listed. What do I need to watch tv on my pc????

    Hi btunis,
I looked up the specs for your computer model and I don't see a TV tuner listed. Do you have one installed? Typically you'd need to hook up your computer TV tuner to either an antenna, cable or satellite/set top box in order to watch TV with Windows Media Center.
If you don't have a tuner and don't want to purchase one, you might still be able to watch some on-demand programming (not live TV) through Windows Media Center, depending on the region where you live. Check out this article from How-To Geek for information about setting up that functionality: Watch TV Programming Without a TV Tuner in Windows 7 Media Center. According to Microsoft this function is not available in all regions, probably due to licensing considerations.
You mentioned you're not seeing the Internet TV option -- if you live in the US it should be available for you, so make sure you have installed the latest updates for Windows Media Center.
    I hope this helps!

  • Possible Windows Media Center Conflict When Viewing .FLV FIles

I am running IE10 on Win7 and just downloaded Flashplayer 11.8.800
I verified the download via the Manage Add-ons list in IE10 and saw that Shockwave Flash Object is available.
I also verified that FP ActiveX - with the correct install date - is among the populated programs in my Uninstall list of the Control Panel.
However, in my WIN7 Default Programs details all .flv files are associated with Windows Media Center and when I try to change that association there does not appear to be a way to link the .flv files to the Flash Player
or a way to disassocaite the .flv files from Windows Media Center.
With the setup the way it is now, when I download a .flv file and try to run it,
Windows Media Center tries to run it and gives me an error that the file type or the codex that created compression may not be supported.
How do I get the .flv files to run?

I use VLC media player for downloaded FLVs  http://www.videolan.org/index.html

  • Accessing Mac media in Windows Media Center 7

Hey all. Just started to delve into Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro and am very eager to try out Windows Media Center, especially for the potential usage I could benefit from by linking it with my XBox 360. Anyways, I'm trying to make the source of media be my iTunes folder on my Mac Partition and I can find it, select it and do not understand why Media Center cannot access it. I've tried opening the mp3 files in Windows explorer and opening them in Windows Media Player and they work fine, but Media Center is having issues opening them. Any ideas on how to fix this and make it work? THank you.

    Hi Casey,
I don't use Media Center but it might be that by default a BootCamp Windows has only read-access to the OSX partition and cannot write to it.
It might be that Media Center is trying to write 'something' to the mp3 files and because of failing to do so does not open them.
MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/ gives Windows complete read and write access to the OSX partition.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Mac + Windows Media Center

I currently have both a pc and a new Macbook. On my pc i use Windows Media Center to record tv shows that i've missed. I'm able to network the two computers to view and share files however i can't play the recorded shows on my Mac. I see them in the shared file but its not opening it. It says "Error opening movie". Can anyone please help me? I'd really like to watch my recorded shows from my Mac laptop and not have to be stuck behind my pc. Please Help???
    Thanks

You need to export the Media Centre recordings into a format which will be viewable on the Mac.
Taken from the Media Portal Forums
Here is a quick guide to strip off the ASF wrapper MS use for their DVR-MS file format. This is used in MediaPortal for recording with MPEG-2 capture cards like the Hauppauge PVR-250 / 350 models.
    What you need to have...
    1. Graphedit http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/graphedit.html
    2. Cyberlink DirectShow filters MPGMUX.AX & CLDUMP.AX (You'll have to find these)
    What you need to do...
    1. If not done already register the two filters listed above from the directory where they have been installed.
    regsvr32.exe MPGMUX.AX
    regsvr32.exe CLDUMP.AX
    2. Start Graphedit and the click 'File' then 'Render Media File'
    3. Choose the *.DVR-MS file you wish to make into a *.MPG equivalent.
This will automatically build a Graph ultimately providing an output to the Video Renderer and Default DirectSound Device.
    4. Remove all filters except the *.DVR-MS output box.
    5. Click on 'Graph' then 'Insert Filters' within Graph Edit.
    6. Go to the 'Direct Show Filters' section and add 'Cyberlink MPEG Muxer' (MPGMUX.AX) to the Graph.
    7. Now add the 'Cyberlink Dump Filter' (CLDUMP.AX) to the Graph and it will prompt for a filename give it a name with a .MPG extension. i.e. Test.mpg.
    8. Leave the Filter addition window and connect the DVR Out-1 connector to Audio In on the 'Cyberlink MPEG Muxer' on the Graph.
    9. Also connect the DVR Out-2 connector to Video In on the 'Cyberlink MPEG Muxer'
    10. Next connect the Output pin from the 'Cyberlink MPEG Muxer' to the 'Cyberlink Dump Filter'
    11. You are now ready to get your MPG equivalent file click on 'Graph' and then 'Play' (or click the green play button)
    12. You'll notice a green progress indicator moving from left to right. Once complete you will have successfully dumped your MPG file in the same quality it was recorded without re-encoding!!!
Note: The MPG file should be slightly smaller the the original. Don't worry if they are not exactly the same size as we have stripped off the ASF guff.
You can do what you want with the MPEG file. i.e. Convert to AVI, Deinterlace it, Crop It, Resize it, Burn it to DVD/SVCD...etc etc
It worked fine with the two files I tried, but I then ran out of time to try doing something with the resulting MPG files. As I was using RDC to connect into the Media Centre, even playing them wouldn't work as expected. I did try VirtualDub but it didn't like the mpg file, but I am not sure if this was a RDC issue or an issue with the mpg files.

  • E3000 + Windows Media Center

    Hello --
I am trying to setup my laptop (and hopefully my desktop) to an XBOX 360 for Windows Media Center. I configured the XBOX so that it changed from Moderate to perfect by configuring the port forwarding and sent to a reserved IP address on the XBOX. I can browse my internal network on my Windows 7 laptop and see both the laptop, desktop, the XBOX and the router all on the same network (they are all connected to the same band, but I tried doing it in seperate bands too with no difference).
I get the Windows Media Center codes from the XBOX and I plug them into Windows Media Center and it cannot find the XBOX. I turned the Windows Firewall off too and that made no difference. I opened up the ports (on the XBOX and tried it on the laptop) based on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911728 for configuring the XBOX as the extender. I am not sure which device (XBOX or laptop) gets those ports forwarded but I tried it both ways and it made no difference -- the device could not be seen.
I tried it with uPNP and with it off -- made no difference.
Anyone with any ideas or experience using XBOX Windows Media Center Extender with the E3000??? Thanks in advance.

Hopefully this thread will get a solution.  I have the same problem.  I can not get Windows Media Center to recognize that I have an (new) Xbox 360 and I can't get the Xbox to see any PC's.  I can see the Xbox in Media Sharing and have it checked to share media.
When moving through the steps of the Media Center -> Task -> Add Extender it tells me that my Windows Firewall settings need to be changed, but it's turned off.  As is the firewall on Norton.
Don't mean to hijack the thread here, just hoping that a solution is found.
    Thanks,
