Wanted to know can i use an Imac as an display port for an Windows PC??
Reason need to contact work pc and want to have Imac as main computer on desk.

The above is supported in the late-2012 iMacs as the Tech specs state:
If you are using the Apple aluminum keyboard, you can toggle between the PC and OS X display with command+F2.

Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire.

How do I get a video signal to an external monitor via the mini-display port on my Mac Book Air?

I can't get a video signal out through my mini-display port on my Mac Book Air (version 1). Thus I can't feed BBC iPlayer to an external monitor. There is some connectivity - the MAC wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible and sound is transferred. Is it likely to be a cable connection problem (though the cable works with a Windows operating laptop)?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black,blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

Macbook pro thunderbolt to Imac Mini Display Port

Hello everyone,
As the title above says I would like to use my Imac (27 inch, Late 2009) as a moniter for my Macbook Pro ( 15 inch, Early 2011). As you may know Macbook Pro has a Thunderbolt port on it and I was wondering if it is compatable to go to my Imac's Mini Display port?
Thunderbolt > Mini Display Port ( Use as moniter not data trasnfer )
If anyone can sheed some light on this area I would be very thankful!

dsimagry, Mark wasn't asking about a Mid 2011 iMac, he was asking about a mid 2010 iMac with a 2011 MBP. That link is not applicable.
Mark, I have a similar setup (same iMac, 2012 MBP with thunderbolt) and have been working on it for a while. While the Thunderbolt ports are supposedly backwards compatible with the Mini DisplayPort interface, a bunch of reading (and an experimental purchase (and subsequent return) of a $70 Thunderbolt cable to try it out) indicates that you can't do that with a Thunderbolt cable but that a Mini DisplayPort <--> Mini DisplayPort cable should work.
As I'm in Canada, it's been a right pain to get one of those (less selection on our Amazon than yours) but I finally got one and only just tried it out this morning. It _DOES_ work, but there are some display refresh/jaggies issues on the iMac. I don't know if that's maybe because the MBP is running on battery at the moment & doesn't have enough power to consistently drive the larger display or whether there's something else wrong, but I'll be spending the remainder of my long weekend trying to figure that out. The issue is that any mouse movement on the screen causes bands of what looks like loss of frame sync 'static'.
I'll let you know here if what I eventually figure out. On the up side, this is by FAR the closest I've gotten so far.

New iMac Mini Display Port

I can NOT believe it...the input dimensions for the mini display port are smaller on the new iMac than the previous iMac!
So now I can't go dual screens until I buy another connector! That *****...why wouldn't accessories remain the same....just stupid!
Ka ching Mac...not cool!
OH and don't expect a remote control either!

So while you are here flying off the handle and acting the fool, please tell us which model of new iMac to which you are referring; the 21.5" iMac or the 27" iMac?

a 2009 iMac 27" with Display Port. If I purchase the thunderbolt cable
can I use that to use the iMac display as an external monitor for the MacBook Pro?

To use a MiniDisplayPort-iMac as an external display for your ThunderBolt-MacBook Pro you need a MiniDisplayPort-to-MiniDisplayPort cable.
ThunderBolt cable would only work when the iMac also has a ThunderBolt port.

My LaCie Firewire 800 hard drive, connected to my Macbook Pro via Thunderbolt Cinema Display port, disconnects after sleep

I have a LaCie RAID Quadra hard drive (two disks in a case set to a redundant array) which for all intents and purporses appears as a normal hard drive to my mac.
When connected directly via FW800 to my Macbook Pro (2011, with thunderbolt port), it works perfectly.
For the sake of convenience, and since I am using it only at home as my Time Machine drive, I connected it to the FW800 port on my Thunderbolt Cinema Display. The display works perfectly in every way up until now.
When connected, the drive works great. However, when I put the machine to sleep, upon awakening it, I receive the "Disk improperly ejected" error immediately upon the screen coming up.
The drive is set to Auto mode which has always worked fine in the past; putting the drive to sleep when the computer is asleep, etc.
So, I only receive the disk ejected error when it's plugged into the Cinema Display; not when directly plugged into the MBP.
I have the 1.1 firmware update applied to the monitor.
Any ideas? I appreciate it.

I want to use dragon to enter medical date on my emr...e clinical which is a windows based EMR..I have a New I mac desk top my office has a server which I connect to with Remote desktop connection by microsoft...I then open emr program and would like to dictate into emr patients exams and symptoms

Not sure what Dragon is, but you can run Windows while in OSX if that helps...

I have a late '06 core duo iMac; which display port adapter do I need?

I want to make sure I get the right display adapter for this older Mac; it's been a while since I used it and there are two available on the Apple site, but I don't know if this Mac is too old even for the earlier version.

This is from everymac.com and if I found your machine it says you need a mini-DVI. Are you hooking up another monitor?

Samsung LA32B530 Not Recognised via Mini Display Port

Hi,
Tried connecting a Samsung LA32B530 LCD Screen to my MBP. The Screen is not recognised by the system. The screen is connected via the Mini Display Port to DVI adapter and from there via a DVI to HDMI cable. Screen on flickers blue when I plug the screen in but no signal recognised by screen and the screen is not recognised in the control panel.
The MBP is connected to the screen via the HDMI1 port which is said by Samsung to be used with a DVI to HDMI cables.
Any suggestions?

Mini Display Port to RCA (Yellow Phono)

I would like to connect my iMac to a secondary display like a TFT LCD TV Monitor or a projector via the Mini Display Port. Now since I used to connect my older iMac via it's Mini DVI port by an Apple Original Mini DVI to RCA/SVideo composite adapter, I had installed a 15 meters RCA cable from my computer to my TV/Projector.
Now I have already bought an Apple Original adapter for my new iMac that converts the Mini Display Port to VGA. I have also bought a VGA to RCA cable from eBay too, but when I connect the VGA to RCA cable to the Apple's MDP to VGA adapter the computer screen freaks. It's seems that they are not fully compatible.
Do I have to buy a Digital to Analogue converter which I found to be around 40 sterlings or shall I replace my previously installed RCA cable to a VGA cable?

Mini display port to DVI problems

Hello community,
I have a question regarding the connection from an iMac via the mini display port to a DVI input at a TFT monitor. I have an older TFT monitor and now I connected the iMac with this monitor via mini display port -> DVI adapter -> DVI cable -> monitor.
It is quite a simple connection, but actually when I force Mac OSX to detect external monitors it does not react at all. Mac OSX behaves as if there is no connection to an external monitor.
I already told this to my reseller and they told me that the adapter is not working correctly and they gave me another one. With that one I have exactly the same problem and now I'm quite sure, that it is not a problem of the adapter, but somehow my iMac does not find the external monitor.
Is there probably an underlying problem I do not understand yet?
By the way, my very old Macbook White has no problems detecting the monitor. If I use the older video output it works fine, but the new output at my iMac 21,5 inch does not work with my monitor.
My question is, why does it not work and what kind of monitor do I need, that it can be connected with my iMac (via DVI)?

Is the adapter plugged in all the way in the Mini DisplayPort? It takes more force than you might expect.
