Window placement at run time

Hi all,
I'm a recent convert to the Mac and really love it, but something I miss is the ability to set the position of an application window when started; they always start in the top left; but I would like to be able to control where they start/open, is this possible to do?
Regards,
Cliff.

Which applications? Most browsers remember where they were last placed. Some applications have a default template. A few have a preference. Preferences or ".plist" can be edited with an editor or modified from command line if they have a hidden preference.
No single general rule for ALL applications. but then, generic answers are hard to come by also. For instance "Activity Monitor" will always return to where you left it.
I accidentally was swapping monitor cables between graphics cards and Vista seemed to have stopped responding, and now Task Manager is somewhere off in virtual space and can't bring it to "0,0" upper left position - because it remembers where it was left.

  • Change Windows Title in run-time

I can change windows title in File-->VI Properties--< Windows Title.
I wish You write in a string box change the windows title. How can i made it?
    Thanks.

    GerdW,
If you open a reference, and then, in a loop, change the title, there is no
    problem.
But if you open a reference and change the title in a loop, you get problems
when you don't close the reference. This does not happen when you don't use
    the Open VI Reference.
The attached VI will hopefully clear things up...

  • Run-Time Engine Installation ?

I currently have LabVIEW Developer Suite 6.0 for both PC (Windows NT/2000) and the Mac OS . We are developping a number of executables that will be run on Windows NT 4.0 hosts . I have a few questions.
1.) Is there an installer for the run-time engine that I can use to place the run-time engie on the image of the target machines. I have stumbled on the back-door method of including the run-time installation in the installer for an application. but I would prefer to install the run-time engine once on all of the target machines (there are about 60 of them).
    2.) Are executables cross-platform ? Will an executable that is built on a PC/MAC run on a MAC/PC ?
3.) Does anything change when we get LabVIEW 6.1 ?

The installer for the LabVIEW run-time engine can be found at \..\National Instruments\LabVIEW 6\AppLibs\installs. You will need separate run-time engines for the PC and Mac as executables are not cross-platform. To run an executable on a PC, you will need to use the PC version of the application builder and to run an executable on a Mac, you will need the Mac application builder. When you get 6.1, if you build an application with it, you will need to install a 6.1 run-time engine.

  • Error 1334 (in LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1.1 setup) when launching VB6's IDE

What's going on here?  I have LabVIEW 7.0 and Visual Basic 6 installed on this Win-XP computer.  When I open VB6, I always get what looks like a Windows Installer error:
First, it asked me for the location of "lvruntimeeng.msi", which I located for it.  The next progress-window says:
    NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.11
Please wait while Windows configures NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.11
Finally it fails with this error-message window:
    NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.11
Error 1334.  The file 'NIMDFManifestFileId.53736431_DBEC_4582_B072_2F1F0A2C4EA6' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'lbruntimeeng_mft'.  This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
    [OK]
The two windows repeat twice each time I launch VB6's IDE, and that causes a long delay.  What can I do to prevent this error?
Message Edited by citizenDAK on 04-23-2008 01:34 PM

Yes it occurrs every time I launch VB6.
For a long time now, at least many months.  It's not every day that I need to open good old VB6.  I was hoping it'd just 'go away' but it hasn't.
I don't know what changes lead up to it.  LOTS of things have been updated, security-patched, etc...  (It is XP.)  I've even un-installed the runtime, then re-installed it when I kept getting the same prompt.  Don't have any idea why, I was hoping you could tell me from the specific file named in the error.  (Google didn't find it for me, and neither did searching ni.com)
p.s.,  Sorry I left out a decimal and copy/pasted it several times...  should've said "NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1.1"

  • How can I run 2 Dreamweaver windows at the same time?

How can I run 2 Dreamweaver windows at the same time on my
    PC?
basically I have 2 monitors and I want to edit CSS on one
monitor and have the html page open on the other so I can quickly
look from one to another with in a split second instead of taking
that extra time to switch back and forth using the tabs at the top,
I know I should probably invest into a mac so i can work out side
of the Dreamweaver application window and I will in the future but
is there any way i can do this on my windows XP pro PC?
    Thank you

Open the CSS in DW, and use F10 to open the Code Inspector.

  • Can't install LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 6.1 on Windows Terminal Server

With my system admin, we tried to install the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 6.1 on our Windows Terminal Server NT4. And we get an error all the time:
    -install using the plugin
    -install using LVRTE.exe
    -install after rebooting the server
But I remember that we could install the Run-Time Engine 6.0 on another Windows Terminal Server NT4.
Is there any compatibility issues with the new Run-Time Engine 6.1 ??
    Thanks for your help
    Cyrille

    Cyrille,
What is the error that you get when trying to install the run-time engine?
Are you installing it from the LabVIEW CD, or did you download it from the web site?
To further troubleshoot this problem, it would be best if you send us an email to [email protected] and send the above information.
Also, try running the installer from the command prompt window, and use the following syntax:
    setup.exe/l*v
This will save the error log to the file you specify. Send us also this file to help us troubleshoot.
    Thanks

  • LabVIEW Run-time Engine 7.1.1 installation failure on Windows 7 SP 1 32-bit

I am attempting an installation of LabVIEW Run-time Engine 7.1.1 on my Windows 7 SP1 32-bit OS computer and the installation hangs.  This happens near the beginning.  Is there a compatibility issue?  The window does not have any error messages.  It says: "Updating System, The features you selected are currently being installed."  The progress indicator blinks periodically, but does not move forward.  Please help.  Thanks!

I recently tried to install the LabVIEW 7.0 runtime engine on my Windows 7 (64 bit) machine to try out an old software. Ended up removing it quickly again, since any LabVIEW version I started up after that, including LabVIEW 2013 showed an installation dialog on startup about (updating installation information, please wait!).
Basically there are so many possible problems why it could fail. Apparently the runtime engine installer had played with some other NI component that he had no idea would ever exist when it was created and caused that component to always think it needed to update itself to finalize its installation. In your case it could be anything from a missing Visual C runtime version framework that the installer simply expects to be present but doesn't since Microsoft has in the meantime released about 5 versions of Visual C and doesn't install all runtime versions anymore on newest Windows. Or it could be a conflict with your hyper-duper .Net Framework 4.5.x.y that the installer does not be prepared for. Maybe that or something else was not present on your 64 Bit machine where you could install the runtime engine.
Basically the reasons for the install to fail are legion, and trying to figure it out is always more hassle than moving on and let old software be old software.

  • Can I use my 2TB WD My Book Essential for the Time Machine feature on the MacBook as well as two other Windows computers (one running 7 and one with Vista)?

Can I use my 2TB WD My Book Essential for the Time Machine feature on the MacBook as well as to store information from two other Windows computers (one running 7 and one with Vista)?

Yes you can but you need to partition the drive into at least 2 separate drives.
To do that you need to use a Windows PC to do the first partitioning. Say you split the drive into two partitions each 1TB (or close to 1TB) each.
Partition fand format both partitions on a Win PC as one NTFS and the other FAT32.
Then move it to the Mac and Reformat the FAT32 partition Mac Extended (Journaled) with a GUID Partition Table.
I have that same drive and that is what I did originally with it. I now have it just for the Mac as I have other externals for the Win systems.
    Good Luck.

  • Building an Application in Windows to be used in Linux (with the Run-Time Engine)

    Hi All,
I have an LabVIEW project I have developed in a Windows environment.  I can create an Application (.exe) using the Build Specification -> Application Builder which works fine on the development platform.
I now want to distribute the application to a Linux Environment.  The OS is openSUSE v10.3 (with GNOME).  I have downloaded the two rpm files needed for the run-time engine and installed them, as per here:http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/97E14BA3E0C14A89862572C300567733?opendocument&node=13207...
Now, the question is; how do I create an Application in Windows which can be used on the Linux Box?  According to the Application Builder instructions, it's simply a case of removing the .exe extension in the Target File Name options, however, this gives an error "Invalid Extension."
If I do create an exe and manually remove the extention is doesn't work on the Linux enviroment (typing ./application).
Has anyone had experiance of this?
    Many Thanks for Any Help,
    Oliver

LabVIEW Run-time Engine Version 8.2.1 for Linux

The cross-platform nature of LabVIEW refers more to the code than to the executable.
LV (given the appropriate development version) can compile the same source code into a Windows (using LV for Windows), Linux (using LV for Linux) or Mac (using LV for Mac) program.
This means you will still have three versions of your program, one for each platform.
If you want to distribute VIs (without block diagrams), you will also need different versions of these as without the block diagram, they cannot be re-compiled for a new platform.

  • Installing LabVIEW DSC 8.6 Run Time on Windows XP Embedded flash memory

I'm trying to install LabVIEW DSC 8.6 Run Time on an embedded PC running Windows XP Embedded. This has a small local disk (c), so I would like to install DSC Run Time on a secondary flash memory drive (d). The installer tells me that I don't have enough free space on drive c, but I cannot browse to select drive d. What do I need to do to get this installed?
    Thanks,
    Josh

The DSC module can't easily be installed to external flash memory. You'll want to move any extra data onto the flash drive to free up space on the internal memory for installing the DSC module.

  • LabVIEW 2009 SP1 Run-Time Engine (Minimum) (32-bit) for Windows - Supported Features

    Hi,
Can some one please point out what features are supported by the LV RTE (Minimum ) [LabVIEW 2009 SP1 Run-Time Engine (Minimum) (32-bit) for Windows]
    1) Is there a limit on the size of the exe which can be run on it?
    2) Will this support additional modules like DAQ etc.,? Or do we have to chose the regular installer ( 170 Mb ) for that purpose?
    3) If a list of what it does or does not support is available, it would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks In advance.
    Regards,
    Vijay

    Anand,
I did go through both the links that you had sent earlier before posting on the forum. For eaxample refer the following link where it says,
    http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/lang/en/id/1599
It does not contain the full run-time engine, but will allow some executables to run.
    1) What do they mean by 'some' executables. Is there a list of yay's and no's available?
    2) Can someone from NI reply to this and shed more knowledge?
    Regards,

  • Windows Server 2008 sp2 Task Scheduler missing next run time after restart

    Hi,
I have the issue that there does not appear to be a fix for with a server 2008 sp2 (NOT R2) where after a restart all tasks are missing the next run time so I need to edit each task to add this time back in. I have tried  the hotfix in KB 950035
but this when you run it is only for Vista and cannot be installed despite saying it's also for Server 2008.
For some reason also this is Task Scheduler version 1 not 2 which I thought came with windows since Vista so SP2 should have it.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Hi Evans,
Would you please let us know current situation of this issue?
As Dave mentioned, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 include all the previously released updates for Windows
    Server 2008.
Based on your description, I understand that all scheduled tasks still miss the next run time on your Windows
Server SP2 when the server restart. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
On current situation, please open Properties of one problematic scheduled task, navigate to History tab, then
check if find some relevant events or errors. Those may help us to go further analyze.
If any update, please feel free to let us know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu
