Window Sticky to Desktop

Hi There,
I'm looking to develop a air window that is sticky to the Desktop. That means, It never can be closed by the user. Is it possible to achieve this.
Also if possible, I want to make this a hard sticky, meaning it should occupy (10% - variable) of the desk top on the left(variable) and new program windows ( like, browsers or other windows programs) should only display in the rest of the 90% of the desktop.
Please help.
Thanks,
Bobby

Try to start Firefox in [[Safe mode|Safe mode]]. This mode disables all extensions, user customizations, hardware acceleration, etc. temporarily for diagnostic and troubleshooting. If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.
Another important step, make sure you update to Firefox 12.

  • Apple - Make Lion finder windows sticky?

I very much like the new Lion Mission Control interface for multiple desktops.  And although I do wish versioning were a bit more tweakable, I also like the way that Lion restores my apps to their appropriate desktop/workspaces.  I have a three-desktop setup that is very important to my workflow, and it's a huge improvement for me not to have to re-position all of the apps and open files each time I reboot my computer.
However, the one area where Lion really gets the fail whale in workspace administration is FINDER WINDOWS.  Why can't Lion remember where my 5 standard Finder windows were positioned, and what folder and view they were opened to?  Granted, Lion does re-open the same number of finder windows, and remembers their size.  But instead of putting them back in the workspaces they were in when I shut down, Lion dumps all of the finder windows in Desktop 1.
At the app level, I'm aware you can right-click the Dock icon and make each app sticky to its proper desktop.  But that doesn't work for Finder windows, because they're all the same app.  If you assign Finder to "this desktop," it pulls all of the open Finder windows to "this desktop."  I want the Finder windows that go with "research" to stay on my "research" desktop, and the ones that go with "writing" to stay on my "writing" desktop, and the general windows to stay on general Desktop 1.
Yeah, it only takes me a minute to move them back where they belong.  But that minute pretty much pops the whole Mission Control balloon - the whole point is that your workspaces are right where you left them.  "Almost" where I left it doesn't have nearly the same oomph.  Moreover, not only do the Finder windows forget which desktop they go with, some of them - but not all of them - forget which folder they were opened to.  I can't quite figure out the pattern, but possibly it's only the windows which were open to my iDisk that forget their folder?  Because that window always comes back the same size, but opened to "Computer" instead of the research folder on my iDisk. (which is synced, so it's not a network issue).  This happens on both of my computers, laptop (over wireless) and desktop (wired).
I know it's a nitpicky little complaint, but if you're going to leverage one of the main productivity advantages of Apple over Windows, you might as well go all the way.  I switched 10 years ago but still have Windows for a few games, but I go MAD if I have to actually work in Windows because there are no workspaces.  (Among other reasons.)  Apple, please consider.

  • When i use firefox 7 and click on the bookmark menu, it leaves an annoying image of the bookmark window on my desktop that I can't get rid of.

When I click bookmarks in the Menu Bar, it leaves an image or "print" of the bookmark window on my desktop. It does not go away after exiting Firefox. The only way I can remove this image from my desktop is to restart my computer. It is becoming a bit annoying. I should mention that this problem does not occur when using the bookmarks icon in the Navigation Bar which I never use because I prefer the other. This has been happening in Firefox 4 to 7, but never in earlier versions.

There is probably a glitch in Firefox's graphics hardware acceleration feature, which was introduced in Firefox 4. To turn that feature off:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the General mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This change should take effect after you restart Firefox.
If you miss (or think you will miss) the hardware acceleration feature, you could try updating the drivers for your graphics card to see whether that solves the glitch.

  • Is there any way to make windows "sticky" in mission control?

If I have several applications open, then invoke mission control, then click on a window to select it, the windows are in a different position the next time I invoke mission control.  This is like trying to hit a moving target, or as I sometimes refer to it,  "musical windows".  I've tried checking and uncheckng the mission control options in system preferences, but the windows still move all over.  Is there any way to make windows "sticky"?  What I would prefer ideally is that each group of windows remains in the same location, then new ones are added after.  I find it frustrating to have to scan mission control and locate the window I want, which is always being moved.

Go to Intel Download Center and select the 3000/4000 driver.
you may need to uninstall the current driver if it won't install on its own

  • How can I obtain a complete Time Machine backup (about 300 GB), with Windows 7-Parallels Desktop, without the system re-booting automatically?

I have been operating my MacBook Pro 15" (Mac OS 10.7.5), with Windows 7 - Parallels Desktop, for about one and one-half years.  However, whenever I execute a Time Machine back-up, and leave the system to complete the process, I return only to find that my system has re-booted, long before the back-up is completed.  I do not use the auto-backup feature because I do not see how to change the shedule for backups away from the default schedule of hourly backups (too my stain on performance).  Is there something that I am missing in setting up for such a back-up?  I am currently operating away from home, using wi-fi for Internet access.

My Windows 7 Professional desktop system hard disk got corrupted and I took the opportunity to install an SSD for a new system disk and reinstall Windows.  The system is up and running on the SSD, with my old system disk now used for storage as it is still readable.  The only Adobe product I have reinstalled so far is Reader XI but I would like to reinstall Elements 8 and Acrobat 9 without taking up more licences as both are also installed on my laptop.  Can you point me to the best way to do this?  - Thanks

  • Windows 8.1 desktop empty after updating and application

I was at the Windows 8.1 desktop. while updating an application (not Microsoft) all seemed to go well. AT the end the desktop was completely empty. No Taskbar, no desktop picture, or desktop icons.
The Windows logo key on the keyboard wouldn't take me to the Start Screen. Right clicking on the desktop also did nothing. ALl I could think of was to turn the computer off using the power button. Is there a better way?

    Hi,
I would like to know the certain name of the application you updated.
It seems that the updating of the application make the explorer.exe crash or no responding.
I suggest you press ctrl+alt+del, and click Task manager.
Then end the process explorer.exe, and click File -> Run New task -> type in explorer.exe.
    See what's going on.

  • How to keep new applications on top within windows 8.1 desktop

In previous Window versions when one opened applications such as word, excel or browser or snipping tool these applications stayed on top.
However, in windows 8.1 now when ne application is openned, one needs to minize other applications before starting to use it.  This is very non productive use of time and prevents swtiching between dpendent application, open version of documents, and
    images.
Please provide suggestions how to configure the system to enable latest application on top.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, you can keep new applications on top of all other windows on your desktop, even while you're working in other programs.
I would like to suggest you restoring healthy  by using this command: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth first.
Meanwhile, please ask on the following forum. This is where the Windows 8.1 experts answer questions.

  • Windows Components/remote desktop services/remote desktop session host/profile doesn't appear to be working on 2008R2 boxes

I have two domains.   One is an account domain with a one way trust with the resource domain.   Resource domain trusts the account domain and has a number of 2008R2 servers running within.  I am experiencing severe logon delays
due to these servers being unable to access the server that hosts the user home folder specified directly on the user account profile tab from the account domain.   When using my workstation in the actual account domain (corporate) I have no
    problems.
Because of these network restrictions,  I need to override the 2008R2's desire to access that user home folder location in the account domain.
So far the best thing I have found to try is Windows Components/remote desktop services/remote desktop session host/profile/Set Remote Desktop User Home Directory
The problem is that so far I have tried to configure this to point to both a local folder as well as a network path and it doesn't appear to be doing anything.   Not seeing any errors in the app or system log either.
It is still trying to map the path in the account domain.
    Any ideas?
Is there a better way to accomplish my goal?   The servers in the resource domain will be Citrix servers and there will be a lot of users connecting from the account domain.
I tried this setting too,  but it only seems to work on the 2012 machines in my Resource domain.
With the introduction of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 there is now a new group policy setting called “Set user home folder” and is found under Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles
    Help!

    Hi,
This might be due to permission problems. Please check whether the user accounts for whose home folder to be redirected have permissions in the shared folder specified in the server.

  • Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

While I agree with the direction of the suggestions with installing packages for X-windows, we do not have a blanket 'apply any package' recommendation.
In particular we do not support altering the kernel (although we do have exceptions which we review on a case by case basis).
Basically, if the you want to alter functionality that would not impact core functionality you are usually fine.
A good guideling is : The more dependencies that there are between the package / rpm you are considering using the higher the potential impact on functionality - meaning higher chance for problems
Note: We do use VNC including Real and Tiger regularly , but we have no hard recommendation on how you may want to use X-windows. I have never seen a limitation other than comments on bugs
or incompatibility within the X-window product itself with certain kernel levels.
Patching may overwrite some packages that you may install, however,  _depending on packages/rpms added_ there is also the possibility that you will break existing functionality to the point
that patching itself will fail ( we have already seen a few cases of this in which case the proper mitigation is to remove / roll-back any alterations to the ODA before patching, and then adding the packages/rpms
back after the patching is completed.
From what you are discussing the impact should be low without conflicts, but please consider the above, and if you have specific packages which you consider potential problems
please create an SR so that we can review packages / rpms on an individual basis.
Once again: the main criteria for not supporting rpms is regarding the kernel itself

  • Created document on Mac Air Pages, saved it to USB drive formatted to ExPat but on Windows 8.1 desktop, this file came up as a JPEG image.  Any ideas please?

I created a document on new Mac Air 11.6 Pages and saved it to a USB flash drive, formatted with ExFat.  However, on Windows 8.1 desktop, this shows and opens as a JPEG file rather than in MS Word.  When I try to open it with Word, it cannot be edited.  Any ideas please?

Of course Windows (Office) can't open a pages document.... you have to save as word or export to word.
I took it for granted you knew this (that's my fault). Each word processor has it's own language (programing). Saving the pages file to a disk and putting it in a windows machine then opening it is like someone mailing you a newspaper  or magazine in a foreign language you do not read and wondering why you only looked at the pictures.
Not only are you new to Apple it's now apparent you are unknowledgeable about using and understanding technology.
This is basic stuff... Some classes or books on how to transfer/exchange files from one application and operating system to another will help you... or ... just stick with one operating system and applications.
