Windown update failure for 2008 R2 sp1

I have a server which exhibit strange behaviour for window update. While it can detect required updates from MS, but most of them (except a few, i.e. KB3037581) failed to install.
Inspection of windowupdate.log give the following error for failed updates. Would like to ask what is the cause of problem ? It access internet through proxy server with both http & https ports enabled. Cannot connet it directly to internet
as it is an Hyper-V VM. Thanks.

Trying to update MS Office 2008 to SP1 on Mountain Lion. When I get to the Office 2008 SP1 installer "destination select".  My hard disk is greyed out and can't be chosen;  message "Office 2008 SP1 Update (12.1.0) can't be installed on this disk.  A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.
This was a fresh install of MS Office 2008 standard just a few days ago.  The Office apps work fine but I always like to stay up to date.
    Any ideas?

From what effective date should I approve the patches? I believe there is no need to approve pre-SP1 patches.

  • Update Failure for Premiere:U44M1l1210

I just got on the 30-day trial for Creative Cloud and using Premiere Pro.
Everytime I go to Update it off the Cloud App list, it fails to update and the error comes up U44M1l210.
I'm using the latest Retina with 16gigs of ram, 10.8.4, and Premiere Pro 7.1.
I have a friend in town, Thailand, and he also just downloaded and he's able to do the updates.  He happened to enter his country/region as Thailand while I decided to put USA because if I buy into the cloud I want to pay in USD and I will be in the US often.
Why can't I update and he can?  I don't want to buy into the cloud if I can't receive the updates.
Please help.  I'm finally getting the gusto to move away from FCP7 and trying you out.
    Thanks for your assistance

  • Update Failure for Ppro CC

What does this PproCC Update Error mean, Update Failed (U44M1P7)?

    I've got a similar issue:
When I launch the Creative Cloud Application, I get notifications to update the applications that have updates available. I've updated all the applications without a problem ... EXCEPT Premiere Pro.
When trying to update Premiere Pro, I get a reponse of:
"Update Failed. Unable to extract the downloaded files. Press Retry to download again. (U441l210)"
I've tried Retry multiple times with no success. Restarted the computer, ShutDown the computer; still no success.
I submitted a bug report to Adobe via their website bug report form.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - BSOD Stop Error 0x00000050 RDPWD.SYS

    Hi all,
I have been struggling with a BSOD for the past 5 weeks and have scoured the web trying in vain to find someone else with the same issue.
    Environment:
8 x 2008 R2 SP1 Windows Servers (8Gb RAM, 25Gb HDD) with Remote Desktop Services Roles installed, running as part of an RDS Farm.  All Servers are VM Guests (hardware version 7) running on VMware vSphere v4.1.0-260247 Hosts (Dell
PowerEdge R710 - 128Gb RAM).  Our vSphere 'farm' has 5 Hosts that connect to our EMC SAN via iSCSI with multipath routes.
Each RDS Server is load balanced via a Connection Broker, and each server has the same set of software / vm hardware installed.  In a nutshell, each has Symantec Endpoint Protection v11.0.5002.333, Symantec Altiris v7.0, Microsoft Office 2007 as well as
other various software essential to these servers.
    Symptoms:
Randomly throughout the day, one (or more) of the RDS Servers will crash with a BSOD more often than not with "caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe" sometimes with "cng.sys" and once with "ksecpkg.sys".  So far in the 5 weeks I have had 90 crashes.  Yesterday
all 8 of the RDS Servers crashed at some point throughout the day.
On a typical BSOD, it says:
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntoskrnl.exe
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    Technical Information:
    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xfffffa800c153284, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff880053dc0c9, 0x0000000000000000)
    *** ntoskrnl.exe - Address 0xfffff8000169ac40 base at 0xfffff8000161e000 DateStamp 0x4e02aaa3
Using BlueScreenView it says "caused by address: ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40" nearly every time.
I have analysed as best I could using Microsoft WinDbg, and this is the output of a typical mini-dump file:

The RDS servers are set to reboot automatically, and after a period of 5 minutes or so, the users can reconnect and log back in.  On a typical day each server will have around 10 people RDP'd in to them.
The Users connecting to the RDS Servers included XP laptops/desktops and IGEL UD-120-LX Thin Terminals.  The XPs have SP3 installed and are fully patched via Symantec Altiris.
    Things I have tried:
    - Analyse the dump-files (as per above).
    - I have tracked each user logging on to the RDS Farm (via batch scripts) and tried to determine if this is caused by the same individual(s) but it appears random.
    - Check to see if the crashing Virtual Machine is running on a specific host, but it has happened on all Hosts.
    - Check to see if there was anything specific that happened on the day that the crashes started.  There were about 5 new poeple introduced to the RDS Farm at that time, but there were using (a) client machines that had been used previously elsewhere with
no issues, (b) software that had been used previously, (c) in a remote location that had previous users using RDS, (d) have not been logged on to a RDS Server when it has crashed.
    - Updated Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 to the latest patches (as of Feb 2012).
    - Turned on Verifier (using recommended settings), and then analysed dump-files with the same reference to rdpwd.sys.
    - Fixed the Memory Resource Reservation in vSphere to the full 8Gb for all these RDS Servers (so that the memory is not shared at all).
    - Ran MEMTEST on a VM Guest with the full 8Gb RAM, on a couple of the ESX Hosts.
    - Changed the VMTools Video Driver to the SVGA II driver from the Standard VGA Driver.
    - Ran a full AV Scan (using SEP).
    - Isolated the Printer Drivers using the Printer Management MMC.
    - Ran sfc /scannow of all RDS Servers and rebooted.
The mini-dump file mentioned above is here:https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=48f471f287af2349&resid=48F471F287AF2349!105&parid=48F471F287AF2349!103
I hope someone can help, as what hair I have left (from pulling it out) is turning grey!

  • 2012 R2 Hyper-V HOST with virtualized 2008 R2 SP1 RDSH - Remote FX Capable?

This article goes over RemoteFX and RDSH for 2008 R2 SP1, but nothing is discussed in regards to 2012 R2 Hyper-V HOSTs for the virtualized RDSH server.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2011/03/25/q-amp-a-microsoft-remotefx-and-remote-desktop-session-host-servers.aspx
My goal is to use a 2012 R2 Hyper-V HOST server to provide RemoteFX vGPU performance to a 2008 R2 SP1 RDSH server. Is this possible? If not, are there any solutions that can provide graphics performance benefits to an RDSH server? If so, are there limitations?
    What are the benefits?

    Hi,
A Server 2008 R2 VM does not support vGPU (neither does 2012/2012 R2).  One possibility if the apps you want to improve are DirectX-based is to run RDSH on a physical server, with a GPU installed,
and enable the Use hardware default graphics adapter for all Remote Desktop Services sessions group policy setting.
Please thoroughly test with the intended applications, GPU, and expected concurrent number of sessions to see if this configuration benefits you.  It only potentially benefits DirectX applications, and only applies to full desktop connections,
    not RemoteApps.
Additionally you may want to test Windows Server Technical Preview/Windows Technical Preview since it has enhanced vGPU capabilities for the VMs.  vGPU is supported for a single-user Windows Server RDSH VM.  Please see the document below (and
    its comments) for more information:

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Windows update not applicable

HELP!!! We have 3 Windows 2008 R2 servers that were updated with SP1 back in March. Last month we noticed on our Retina audit that the three servers were missing several Windows critical patches that were released after SP1 was applied. WSUS did not report
any missing patches for those three servers. When we tried to manually apply those missing patches we get the error message "This update is not applicable to your computer". After some troubleshooting we found that KB976932 (Service Pact 1) is not listed in
installed updates. However, system property shows Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition. We are certain that SP1 did NOT come pre-installed. Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer detected no missing patches. Microsoft System Readiness Tool CBA logs show no
errors. Ran SFC /SCANNOW and found no error also. Force install of the patches with command switch /wuforce, did not work we still get the same message patch not applicable. We compared our servers that are fully patched running Windows 2008 R2 SP1 against
the three unpatched servers and found several dll and sys file's version to be different. Those dll and sys files are also the files that would have been updated by the critical patches. The only thing different between the fully patched Windows 2008 R2 SP1
servers and the unpatch are the unpatch have no public internet access. We confirmed patches that were required prior to SP1 push are installed: KB2454826 KB2534366 KB2533552 KB976902 Confirmed: Partition with Windows 2008 R2 SP1 installed is set to "ACTIVE"
Windows Event Collector service is started Windows Modules Installer is started Uninstalling SP1 is not possible because the KB976932 is not listed and verified "not hidden" in installed updates list. Rebuilding the three servers are the very last option,
since they are critical. Other than the missing patches.... the servers are running great, we have no reported issues with the three servers. Attempt to reinstall SP1 failed after reboot, error 0X800F0826. If anyone has experience this problem and know of
    a solution please help.

    Hi,
I would like to confirm that what updates are not applicable for your three Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 servers?
Based on the current situation, please run the System Update Readiness Tool as Meinolf Weber mentioned and check the CheckSUR.persist.log for the corrupted
files. After that, please refer to the following Microsoft TechNet article for how to repair them.
Advanced guidelines for diagnosing and fixing servicing corruption

  • Upgrade SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 to Update Rollup 2

Hi, I am running SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 and want to upgrade to the Update Rollup 2, but I went to the web site for the KB 2691812.
and tried to run Windows Update, but can't find "Update Rollup 2"
So then I tried to download the update packages. I received an error when trying to install KB2701207:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and
that you have the correct upgrade patch.
    When I open SCVMM 2008 R2, I am running Version 2.0.4521.0 Service Pack 1
    Thanks

The above issue is related to missing prerequisites.
For Upgrade to KB 2701207, you will need first to check windows update, and install KB 2691812 first

  • Windows 2008 R2 Server without Service Pack 1 was flag "Not Required" during the SCCM patching/deploying SP1 for 2008

    Dear Brothers,
I come to a scenario were one of our Windows 2008 R2 Server without Service Pack 1, was Flag under SCCM 2007 Reports Update Status for Service Pack 1 deployment to be "Not
    Required" which definitely inaccurate.
What I want to know what are the conditions for the Software Update to send a status to SCCM Server that the Service Pack is “Not
Required” instead of the other way around?
Is there anyone that can guide me to any KB Article regarding this behavior?
    Regards,

Yes, I know this is an old post, I’m trying to clean them up. Did you figure this out, if so how?
I have seen this before and what I have done is manually applied the SP1 to the server. Only then did the error show up as why SP1 didn’t apply. After fixing the error, CM was apply to apply SP1 and other SU to the server.

  • Unable to install the security patches KB2677070 in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (The update is not applicable to your computer)

    Dear everyone,
We are trying to install the below KB in our windows server 2008 R2 SP1, however, it will show "The update is not applicable to your computer". There is no problems to install the other patches except this one. Do anyone have idea about it?
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2677070
    Thanks,
    Users

    Hi,
According to this KB article, there are many exceptions where this KB is not applicable.
    Please perform the following steps:
Expand the “For all supported…” title in the File Information section in the KB article.
Find Crypt32.dll.mui files on your machine.
Then compare the file version, file size, data and time with the ones listed in the KB article.
If there is a match, then this KB doesn’t apply to your machine, which is by design.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards,
    Amy Wang

  • Do I need to install Security Hotfix (KB2977319) after Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2

    HI,
I have installed Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 on my SharePoint instances. This was to resolve a known  issue faced with the instance. CU12 helped resolve the issue. My company is rather strict regarding security hotfixes. But I am
not sure if this particular hotfix [Security Hotfix (KB2977319)] is required if the instance has CU12 applied.
Tested this on a Lab server, the installation did run fine, the summary log also stated that the KB is applied. But the Build Number did not change. Hence the doubt.

Yes you must install Security update mentioned in KB 2977319 it is important for SQL Server to be patches with this security update. Without this it could allow an attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it.
