Windows 10 on Thinkpad 10 no touchscreen or pen

I upgraded to Windows 10 and now my touchscreen and pen don't work. Device manager says those devices are not connected to the system and there is an error on the Intel Serial I/O I2C controller that says the I/O device is not configured correctly or the configuration parameters to the driver are incorrect. Any suggestions? Thanks

After upgrading my windows 8.1 PC to Windows 10, my Acer T272HL 27" touchscreen monitor is no longer listed as being touch compliant, has lost all touchscreen functionality, and the hid touchscreen listing has disappeared from the device manager: frustrated! Have, of course, uninstalled & reinstalled the monitor correctly,& windows still denotes it as non touchscreen. Of course, hdmi cable & USB 3.0 cables firmly connected....Thanks much in advance..

    cathound7,
There should be something listed in the USB section for the monitor touch functionality. My only suggestion would be to uninstall the drivers for the monitor (again), remove the USB cable, and restart the system. See if it picks up the monitor and tries to install the drivers, then connect the USB cable and see if it tried to install the touch functionality.

  • Thinkpad X1 Carbon touchscreen no longer working - it worked for a year

I have looked through all the posts on this and it seems there are 2 threads, one where the touchscreen never worked, and this was often the fact that the ordered model didn't have the touchscreen, and second (my issue) when the touchscreen stops working where it was working before.
    My model is 20A7-CTO-1WW - 2014 version - Windows 8.1 Pro.
Before anyone asks, yes, it does have the touchscreen, it has worked faultlessly for nearly a year.
Sometime in the last couple of weeks, the touchscreen stopped working completely.
I reqularly apply maintenance (Lenovo and Microsoft, my BIOS is at the latest level).
When I stated to diagnose the problem, I saw a couple of anomolies.
    1) In the "PC Settings", I says "no pen or touch input is available for this display"
I ran the Lenovo Center test, and in the Log File (full log available)...... Index 18 clearly shows the Touchscreen
And finally, if I go to the HID section of Device Manager (+view hidden), there is no reference to the Touchscreen
No reference to the Touchscreen in the BIOS settings,
Please can someone give me some advice, it seems that maybe the Touchscreen H/W has been turned off somehow.
    Thanks, in Advance, Paul

  • Installing Windows XP to Thinkpad X41 (Not Tablet)

Alright so I got a used IBM Thinkpad X41 from my uncle which had windows xp installed on it. He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased.
    Some specs on the X41:
Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.
Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong).
Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says:
    Media Test Failure, Check Cable
    Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
    Operating System Not Found
Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover.
The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order.
If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that.
I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders.
Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.

    Welcome to the forum!
Fastest and probably least painful way around this is to buy or borrow a USB CD-ROM and take it from there...
    Good luck.

  • BSOD when installing Windows XP on ThinkPad x220

    Hi,
I have just bought a ThinkPad x220 (4293-AA6) with no OS installed. I am trying to install Windows XP (32-bit), but have not yet been successful.
I have carefully followed section in the User Guide called "Installing Windows XP", but this has not worked for me. In summary, the procedure I followed was:
In BIOS, set "Serial ATA (SATA)" to "AHCI",
Set "UEFI/Legacy Boot" to "Both" or "Legacy Only" (makes no difference to my problem)
Boot from Win XP SP2 CD
Press F6 when prompted, put the Lenovo "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver drivers" in floppy drive, and select "Intel MobileExpress Chipset SATA AHCI Controller". Drivers were extracted from this file: this file
    Continue the installation
The result is a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) just after the setup screen says "Setup is starting Windows", with the error message:
    "STOP: 0x0000007B (0xf78d2524,0xc0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)"
    Other things I have tried:
Followed the alternative procedure outlined in the User Guide, under "If you do not have a diskette drive..."
Updated the BIOS from 1.15 to 1.17
Ran memtest86+ (resulted in no errors)
Tried the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver" from the Intel website rather than the Lenovo website
Selected the "Intel 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller" instead of the other one when installing the drivers
Tried using a WinXP SP3 CD instead of SP2
    Formatted the disk using diskpart
Installed Ubuntu 11.04 to the harddrive (successfully!!) then tried installing Windows XP again
But I always get the same BSOD.
I have also tried installing Windows 7 (64-bit), which also failed! It booted into the installation program, but then it stopped and said it couldn't find a driver for a CD/DVD drive. After installing the appropriate 64-bit Lenovo IRST driver and rebooting, this resulted in the following Blue Screen of Death: "STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003,..."
Is anyone able to help me with getting Windows (XP or even 7) installed? Any help or ideas would be much appreciated, and I'm happy to provide more information/tests if needed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Roy

    Hi,
As usual, it is strongly recommended to backup all important data prior to upgrading any operating system. It is also strongly recommended to verify all currently used hardware and software with the Windows 7 Compatibility Center.
Depending on if you are moving from Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista there are two different types of installations that can be performed when migrating to Microsoft Windows 7.
First, it is important to note that there is not an in-place upgrade from Microsoft Windows XP to Windows 7. Instead of an upgrade, there is a type of installation known as a “custom” installation. This option for installation is also available when moving from Windows Vista. A custom installation will attempt to back up your data files and bring them over to Windows 7 in what is known as a “windows.old” folder however this is considered to be a clean installation. Your applications that were installed prior to Windows 7 will require reinstallation. You may find the following resource Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 helpful.
If moving from Windows Vista, there is an option for an upgrade installation. The upgrade installation must be initiated from within Windows Vista. You may find the following resource Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 helpful.

  • Has anyone tried Windows 10 on ThinkPad 10?

I am curious about the following aspectsany missing driversWatcom digitzer and its calibration work as they are supposed tobattery lifeany harddrive performance improvementI use my thinkpad 10 for work, so I have to be cafeful not to break it. If you have tried, your experience will really help. Thx

I have Windows 10 running on a TP10. It's the model that does not have either WWAN or NFC fitted.
As far as I can see, it is behaving normally, but I have not explicitly checked for changes to battery life or changes in eMMC performance.
There's a new calibration routine in Windows 10, with an additional 25 points used for edge calibration. This works as expected.
One small quirk, the software driver for the NFC device is also apparently installed by default in Windows 10. As a result, Device Manager complains that the NFC device is not working properly, but as I said, the TP10 doesn't have the hardware fitted, so I just ignore this.
Oh, the Quickshot software from Lenovo isn't working properly at the moment. Folding back the camera cover just takes me to the Start Screen, rather than in to the Camera app. I suspect that Lenovo will be introducing a new version of their software, as they have done for the Lenovo Companion software.
Be aware that Microsoft has made some changes to their built-in apps in Windows 10; in my opinion, not always for the better. For example:
    - The Camera app has lost its Panorama feature
    - The Photos app cannot browse picture Folders any more, it only shows all photos in order of date taken.
    - The Smart files feature of OneDrive has gone
    - The Groove music app cannot use DLNA devices for audio playback

  • Windows 7 and ThinkPad Z61t 9440-CTO

I'm running XP, 3 megs Ram, will I be able to upgrade to Windows 7?
    Thanks,
    Harold

    Harold,
I see no reason why Windows 7 would not run well on your Z61t. Unfortunately, I can't figure out what is in your system because it was a Configure to Order system, but 3 GB ram will help. Remember that Windows 7 is what Vista should have been. It's Vista all fixed up and well oiled.
On a related note, if you want absolute stability, DON'T UPGRADE.  Backup your data and do a CLEAN install. i.e. during the install, delete existing partitions and let Windows 7 reformat everything. Then install the Windows 7 ThinkPad drivers and voila, you should have a rock solid and fast laptop.  That's what I have...

  • BUG: RapidBoot uninstall screwed up Windows 7 on ThinkPad X220

Since my X220 boots as fast without RapidBoot as it does with factory-installed RapidBoot,
and is more usable more quickly without RapidBoot, I decided to leave RapidBoot uninstalled.
Since then I've noticed that some important Windows services, most notably Windows Update,
were not working, and found that they were Disabled.
While I can't say for sure, I have a strong suspicion that RapidBoot disables these services so
it can start them itself, and that the installer for RapidBoot failed to restore standard behavior
of these services when uninstalling RapidBoot. If true, I think it a serious bug that should be
    promptly fixed.
Caveat: I was using the factory-installed version of RapidBoot, not the 1.11 update recently
1.11 update recentlyreleased, so I don't know if this issue is addressed in 1.11 or not.
    Hope that helps,
    John

perhaps you might try installing version 1.11, testing, then uninstalling it to recover any incorrectly-set services.
Installing and uninstalling RapidBoot 1.11 make no change in my services configuration.

  • Windows 8 making thinkpad X61s C2Duo L7500 (default 1.6GHz) runs at 1.8GHz

    Hi!
My laptop is a thinkpad X61s C2Duo L7500, wich current CPU frequency is 1.6GHz.
I installed Windows 8 and noticed something strange:
The CPU is running at the maximum of 1.8GHz.
    Screens:
Running on balanced performance energy plan:
    Image 1
Running on high performance energy plan:
    Image 2
Energy plans are the defaults of Win8, not customized.
    BIOS is at default values.
The CPU frequency goes up 1.8GHz both on balanced performance and high performance energy plans. as obvious, on high performance it happens regularly, while on balanced performance it goes up to 1.8GHz just sometimes.
Although that problem, my X61s is running windows Windows 8 well. It just had 3 BSODs, but I'm pretty sure should be caused by the higher CPU frequency.
Have anyone noticed the same problem?
There is any fix or workaround to solve it?
I'm afraid that my CPU could be damaged if I use it for a very long time.
    Thanks!

    Thanks CharlyAR!
So, i finally found out I was completely wrong :-(
    Here are Intel L7500 Specs:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLA3R.html
It says it runs at 1.8GHz on IDA mode.
There is a feature called IDA:
Intel Dynamic Acceleration technology (IDA) is a feature that boosts CPU performance when the CPU is running single-threaded applications. This is achieved by temporary increasing frequency of one CPU core when another CPU core is idle, i.e. when the second CPU core is in Deep Sleep or lower power state. How much the frequency is increased depends on front-side bus speed of the CPU:
    533 MHz FSB - by 133 MHz
    800 MHz FSB - by 200 MHz
    1066 MHz FSB - by 133 or 266 MHz
This feature was introduced in Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile microprocessor family and is applicable only to dual-core CPUs. Quad-core processors incorporate Dual Dynamic Acceleration feature, which works similar to IDA. Newer Intel microprocessors based on Nehalem core utilize improved version of IDA called Turbo Boost Technology.
    http://www.cpu-world.com/Glossary/D/Dynamic_Acceleration_technology.html
So, I reverted all my energy plans to the default states and now I'm running it without being afraid ;-)

  • Windows 10 and Thinkpad Pro Dock problems

Hello, I just upgrade to Windows 10, I did a clean install and everything seems to work fine, but it doesn't. I have my T450s on a Thinkpad Pro Dock 90w, with two TV's plugged in on the dock: one TV goes on the HDMI port, and the other one on the Display Port one. The problem: windows 10 is not able to output any audio from any of these ports. Actually windows does not see any possible audio coming out of any of these two ports. If use the Mini-Display Port on the left side of the laptop, then Windows quickly finds the audio and shows it on the "Playback devices" list, but pluging any of the TV's on the rear ports of the dock, the system only finds a way to display video, but no audio at all.Btw, this very same system was working perfectly on Windows 7. Has anyone noted this? Is there any firmware update coming up to solve this problem? This is a big problem for some of us... thanks a lot!! Ivan.

Thank you Skoop for your answer!
Unfortunately no -  "Power on with AC attach" is disabled.
I didn't have much time today, but next thing I'll try is to update the BIOS and try another OS (eg a Linux live distro).
    I'll report on the results!

This got installed for me on 8/13, without me noticing (would have scared the heck out of me if I had noticed --- trashed my T61p on a Bluetooth "upgrade" a while back).

  • Recent problems with Windows Update with Thinkpad 8

Since last week I've started having problems with Windows Update on ny Thinkpad 8. It seems to be related with some recent update. At first I received different error codes. As I don't have many programs on my tablet, I refreshed it and set up Windows and Office again. I ran WU, and after the first update (with 100+ updates) WU was working ok. However, after a second set of updates (probably the most recent) I've started receiving error messages again. Most recently I am receiving code 80070002, and the error seems to affect only the installation of Windows Defender definitions through WU -- other WU updates install correctly, and most of the time I can install Windows Defender updates through Windows Defender. I have already tried the Windows Update Diagnostic tool, but the problem persists.
