Windows 10 Sleep and Hibernate with HP Spectre

Hello After upgrading to Windows 10 my HP Spectre x360 the sleep option in the laptop is not working properly, and while in sleep mode, it is still consuming power, and heating up. Also the power options in Windows 10 is not all enabled (the advanced power options), specially that it does not allow password after sleep (which hinders the security of the device)This was not happening with Windows 8.1 .. Is this issue reported with someone else ? Is it a Windows issue, or a driver issue? Thanks

The MYTH that Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 drivers would automatically work is rubbish! See here, lots of others have the same problem! http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Windows-10-Laptop-won-t-go-into-sleep-mode/m-p/5182793/highlight/false#M305085 The only fix is to revert back to your old system!

  • Windows explorer + other windows applications crashing regularly at resume from sleep and hibernate

    Good evening,
I have a Thinkpad W510 (4319-29G) running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. The system is loaded with the latest software and drives from Lenovo including BIOS 6NET74WW (1.34), upgrade was done Dec 7th (windows update performed Dec 15th).
    The machine has
    - 8Gb RAM
    - nVidia Quadro FX880M, driver version is 8.17.12.5896, 7-9-2010 and video card BIOS is 70.16.5f.0.b
    - dual harddrives,
       - one Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb (ST95005620AS) FW rev SD23 in the main location with C: and some other partitions
       - one Hitatchi 320 Gb (HTS723232L9SA60) FW rev FC4ZC50B in the bay.
    - Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN, driver version 13.3.0.24, 7-14-2010
    - Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection, driver version 11.5.10.1030, 7-22-2010
Recently I have experienced crashes of multiple windows components at resume from sleep and hibernate.
It seems to happen when swithing location (from work to home) and thus switching from docking station with wired network connection to no dock and wireless network connection (dont know if this has any bearing but anyway).
In the event viewer I typically have some 6-12 application errors logged. Sample output from event viewer is:

It seems that a module "nview64.dll" is always the first application to crash. I suspect this has something with graphics to do.
I dont know if this event triggers the following crashes or if it is so that the display is initialized before the other programs.
After all crash diagnostic messages have been shown windows explorer restarts and also other applications restart but a lot of system tools in the system tray are gone so a cold start is needed to restore all tools again.
I really would appreciate any help and suggestions how to fix this really annoying issue.
    Thanks, Anton

I had a similar issue, as soon as a described even a little bit of it to warrenty support they sent someone to swap the board
It seems thats the only fix, its been fine since

    personally... I'd just...
That's what I'm zeroing in on. I'm sure that whatever you and Mark do in your environments makes perfect sense in those environments. But, those are two environments out of millions. For my "personally", I'd like to do whatever I can to prevent these forums
from becoming a place where someone doing things differently is intimidated out of posting further, by telling them things like "that's not what you want" without really knowing what it is they want. I know of at least one popular tech forum like that, and
it's now dominated by halfmins who are revered for their post count, not because they know anything. I'm not trying to say that's what either of you are trying to do or that you're not both perfectly capable experts. It's just that there are certain behaviors
I think we should all rise above on these forums.
I maintain that the real issue here is that, as the OP points it, it's advertised to work, therefore it should work. Workarounds and alternate solutions are nice, and I don't think anyone is complaining about them just being presented, but ultimately they're
    not the point.
I understand your position about just shutting it down and I'm sure that's valid in the situations you encounter. What happens to me is that I'm hammering on some code for CoreFig in my Win7 box while testing on a Hyper-V Server in the background. The phone
rings, I get distracted, and six days later, I still have a Hyper-V Server running full-bore that I'm doing absolutely nothing with. It has to be on a physical machine because I can load Hyper-V Server in a VM, but I can't put active VMs on it. It has to be
on Hyper-V Server and not Client Hyper-V because A) it's meant for Server and uses features only found on Server and B) I tell end users that it was tested on Server and being truthful is sort of my thing. So, I think I have a valid use case for sleep. I have
to assume there are any number of others out there.

  • Sleep and Hibernate does not work after BIOS update X1 Carbon 20A8

As subject title, did a recent Lenovo "System Update" on BIOS and other drivers, and since then sleep and hibernate no longer works, when i close the lid, it turns on by itself after 2 seconds.
When i select Sleep or Hibernate in Windows 8.1 with lid open, it just behaves like a Restart command.
    Need this fixed! Any ideas?

Try downgrading to your older BIOS and see if it works again.

  • Satellite Pro A200GE-1F9 cannot resume from Sleep or Hibernate with SP1

    Hi,
    Laptop Details: [My Laptop|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&BV_UseBVCook ie=yes&PRODUCT_ID=131911]
I've recently used Windows Update to install vista SP1 on my laptop, however since this install I cannot resume from Sleep or Hibernate. (The service pack had installed successfully - according to Windows anyway).
When resuming from Sleep, I get a blank screen.
    When resuming from Hibernation, I get a STOP error: +Stop 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x82F11020, 0x9A9D9714, 0x00000000)+ caused by *Classpnp.sys*.
After checking these forums, I've seen that Toshiba does not currently support SP1 +is that correct?+
+*If so, when/how will we be notified when Toshiba release a "patch" for Vista SP1 compatibility? I'm guessing via the TEMPO service?*.+
Prior to installing SP1, I installed all updates (from both Microsoft and Toshiba) and had no problems; all drivers remain up to date.
Thanks for any replies in advance.

I presume this happens due to a compatibility issue between some drivers and SP1
    > After checking these forums, I've seen that Toshiba does not currently support SP1 is that correct?
    Yes this is right.
    > If so, when/how will we be notified when Toshiba release a "patch" for Vista SP1 compatibility? I'm guessing via the TEMPO service?
I think there should be information on the Toshiba driver page, support page or we will receive some information from Toshiba via Tempo applications.
    We will see

  • Sleep and Hibernate problems

    Hi,
Been using Win7-64bit dual-booted for a while now. Sleep on it has been problematic for a while but I did have it all working fine. Since the update to bootcamp 3.2 though, I can't get it to Sleep or Hibernate.
When I try, the screen goes dark, but the Hard Disk stays on and the system never 'sleeps'.
My only option at that point is to hard-power-off. When windows then resumes it complains it wasn't shutdown properly.
I've posted onto an MS forum, who said I should really try here. Based on their feedback and my gut I suspect its some driver thats causing the problem.
I've tried closing down any apps I can see running that might cause it (BBC iPlayer, Skype, Live, etc), but still no good.
Theres nothing in the event logs of any issues.
I've tried updating the Nvidia drivers to the latest from them - no difference.
Anyone have any ideas how to debug it ?
I could try dropping back to 3.1, but I'd rather find out the cause.

I'm using WindowsXP Pro on my 2008 Macbook Pro (Mac Side had no sleep issues), but perhaps there's a similar culprit since I solved my standby issues here using the debugger tools from Microsoft.  It was giving me a blue screen of death crash every time I would attempt to wake from sleep.  I updated by video drivers but still no joy.  I used the debugging tools (PITA, but useful) and it pointed squarely at my 1394 Firewire driver as the culprit.  Apparently, Microsoft's Firewire drivers suck.  Texas Instruments (the supplier for Apple's FW chips) recommended Unibrain (at Unibrain.com) drivers for their chipset (they're FREE drivers, btw).  Unibrain claims to be 100% compliant, even under XP and runs at full FW800 speeds, etc.  I don't know about that one way or another, but what I do know is as soon as I installed their FW driver and rebooted, my machine would now work PERFECTLY in Standby mode.  I imagine FW devices would work right now as well (many have reported crashes or slowness when trying to use them in Windows; I only use FW in OSX so I never tried them out in Windows and hadn't even used Windows until my recent trip (boredeom and wanted to play some old Windows games from Steam).
Anyway, the Unibrain drivers are for XP, Vista and Windows7, so it's not impossible that it's also causing issues in Vista or Win7 as well, even if the behaviors are slightly different.  The debugging tools would tell you for sure, but it's easier to try out the replacement drivers (you can always drop back to previous drivers if you don't like them).   I'd be curious to know if the drivers solve standby issues in Win7 as I'll be putting that on my next Mac.

Yes, the license allows 2 installs for the owner's personal use. You can check this in the license agreement if you wish.

  • NI Backgound Process(es) And Hibernate with Truecrypt

I have observed an issue in both LabVIEW 8.5 and 8.6 on XP where one of the NI backgound processes that always runs when LabVIEW is installed makes the system unable to resume from hibernation.  (This has been on two separate systems: SP2 and SP3.)  Both systems have Tryecrypt full-disk encryption on the boot partition, although I am unsure whether this is related.
Aside from the hibernation resumption issues both systems and all NI software function normally.  Removing LabVIEW restores proper hibernation behavior.
Has anyone seen anything like this?

I can't say I've specifically seen this.  But from my experience, hibernation on Windows XP has always been shaky.  And I know of some XP laptops that do not have LabVIEW that are always unreliable when it comes to resuming from hibernation.  I don't know if things improved in Vista as I am only using a sleep mode with Vista

  • Windows Server 2003 and problem with SSL connection (TLS)

    Hi,
We are forcing a problem with SLL/TLS connection on a machine Windows Server 2003 SP2.
We spent hours trying to solve it without any result.
    SYMPTOMS
No SSL connection can be established in any application since last year, e.g.:
we cannot do any windows update, because there is a time verification over SSL on the windows update website (there is an error that the time is incorrect while it is up-to-date)
we cannot open any website in Internet Explorer over https
when we try to connect to the SQL Server (database SQL 2008 hosted on the same server) with Management Studio it fails with an error: "A connection
was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake.(provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - Could not
    contact LSA)(Microsoft SQL Server)"
in a custom applications which sends requests over https we receive an error: "Could not establish trust relationship for SSL/TLS secure channel"
Everything seems to point at some SSL problem somewhere deep inside Windows.
We installed several patches, but without any result.
    Can anybody help?
    Regards,
    Dawid

    Hi, thanks for answers,
    - In IE both SSL2.0 and TLS1.0 are checked. We tried to disable TLS1.0 - with no results.
    - In  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\Schannel both SSL2.0
and TLS1.0 are enabled. We also tried to dislable TLS1.0 on the Client side - with no resuts.
    - In
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL EventLogging is set to 3, so it should log warnings
and errors. But we cannot find any related logs in EventLog
Unfortunately we are still in the same place.

  • Blank windows on minimise and restore with compiz on kf5

    Hi,
Since I have updated to kf5, I am experiencing a problem with windows being blank except for the titlebar when I minimise and then restore them. I use compiz-core 0.8.10-1. If minimise and restore the window several times then I can get the window to redraw correctly, but it seems random as to when it redraws correctly and when it is blank. This does not seem to only happen in firefox, so far I have noticed this to happen with konsole, thunderbird and several other programs. Here is a screenshot of when it looks like when it is blank:
I have tried creating a new user and just enabling compiz, but the problem still occurs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

I have exactly the same problem with my 8gb ipod touch 2nd gen and have tried everything you have with no success (see http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2531624&tstart=0)
It's definitely due to the itunes 9.2 update in June. I get the same itunes restore and sync errors you have on Windows Vista and Windows 7. It only starts restoring and syncing properly on Windows XP. I've tried downgrading to an itunes version that worked for me on Vista before, but Apple have updated the ipod touch firmware so that its not supported anymore by the earlier versions of itunes.
Apple phone support is a waste of time. They want to charge me £25 before they are interested in helping as they say my ipod is out of warranty - but its not the ipod that's broken, its the poorly written ITUNES, so why shouldn't I get free support for itunes even though my IPOD, which is perfectly fine, is out of warranty?!
Truth is, now apple has your money, they don't care...

I read your post on the HP Support Forums and seen that you are having issues with your HP Pavilion 15-n260tx Notebook PC and the Sleep/Shut down options. It sounds like you might be having an issue with one of the features of Windows called Hybrid Shutdown that is used for the Fast Startup feature.  Here are a couple of links for you about Fast Startup, Hybrid Shutdown and How to Shut down your Notebook completely. They also have some troubleshooting steps in them.   1. Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10.2. Shut Down Computer in Windows 10. If those do not work, I do have some more documentation for you to read and try.  1. Shut down (turn off), sleep, or hibernate your PC - This document is from Microsoft. 2. HP Notebook PCs - Managing Power Options (Windows 8)3. HP PCs - Sleep and Hibernate Issues (Windows 10, 8) Sometimes a BIOS Update will work. You can update all of your drivers by going to the HP Driver's website or by using the HP Support Assistant. On the Driver's page there is not an update for the Windows 10 Column, but there was an update that just came out under Windows 8.1 on Aug 7, 2015 that should work for your Notebook.  Another fix that may work is to Run the Troubleshooter. Please follow this link to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.   I hope this helps!  Have a great day!

I understand that after updating your Windows 8 to 8.1 you are experiencing an issue with sleep/hibernation and the Catalyst Control Center.
For the Catalyst Control Center I suggest you download the updated driver and save it.
Uninstall the current drive and delete it
restart your notebook and install the updated driver from where you saved it.
Here is a link to HP PCs - Troubleshooting Sleep and Hibernate Issues (Windows 8).
If the sleep/hibernation issue remains you can try this step.
Go to the command prompt and run as administrator
Type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes and press enter.
If your issues still remain, I suggest you try installing the original drivers from the recovery manager.
HP PCs - Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8)
Next I would do a recovery back to factory.
HP PCs - Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)
There will be an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.
