  • I want to install Windows 7 in bootcamp on my imac with Lion 10.7, but only have a Windows 7 upgrade disk.  I also have a full Vista.  Can I install in bootcamp using the Windows 7 upgrade disk?  If so, what do I need to know about how?

    Hi,
I want to install Windows 7 on my imac in bootcamp.  I have a windows 7 upgrade disk and a full vista disk.  Normally on a PC I would install Vista, then upgrade to Windows 7.  I see that bootcamp 4 only supports Windows 7.
Can I install the Windows 7 upgrade disk without first installing Vista?  Will this work in bootcamp?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Install 7. Don't bother with applying drivers and such, just reboot again from DVD and install again, it will see the existing system and this time activation will be possible.
Vista is mess, takes longer etc. Hope you have SP1 version of 7. And for Vista, only SP2+ are even supported now, by MS.

  • I can't get Macbook Pro DVD drive to read my Windows 7 upgrade disk.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8.  I have been trying to upgrade the OS in my VMWare Virtual Machine from XP to Windows 7.  However, when I insert the upgrade disk, it just spins for a few minutes and then tells me the disk is a blank disk.  I  tried it with the drive tied to the VM XP OS, but that did not work and got the same result.  I then tried the disk in a PC I have and it seems to work fine there.  Also, I have tried other disks in my Mac drive (e.g. DVD movies) and they seem to work as well.  I am not quite sure where the problem is.  Any ideas?

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
Does Windows Server 2012 R2 have any such functionality built-in to enable monitoring of disk space?

    Hi,
Windows Server 2012 stays the same on that topic, you still need some kind of monitoring on your disk space.
If you don't have a monitoring solution, like for example SCOM, you can for example with powershell do what you earlier did in VB script. Either you have a scheduled task that runs as often as you'd like, or you can utilize something called WMI eventing
to trigger on an event 'disk low' but thats a bit more complicated.
See below examples on some example scripts that you could use.

  • Satellite A200-1M8 - Can I get a Windows 7 upgrade disk?

    Hey there, regarding Windows 7.
I have purchased my laptop model which is Toshiba Satellite A200-1M8 in year 2007.
    I want to know first:
If i'm able to upgrade it for free or for money according to Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade thing you offer, if yes to which Version of windows 7 it will be upgraded (Home, Professional, etc..)
If not, can I order Toshiba to make a Recovery DVD for Windows 7 specially for my laptop version and if yes, to which version of Windows 7 will toshiba give me?
    Regards.

    Hi
All informations that you want to know you can find on the Windows 7 upgrade page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Windows 7 Learn More
As you can see a free upgrade is only possible on notebooks purchased from June 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010.
Furthermore your model isnt Windows 7 supported. There is only a limited driver support for a clean Windows 7 installation and so you cant get a Windows 7 disk from Toshiba.
But all these informations are already on the Toshiba page ;)

  • Windows 7 Professional - Disk Space low on 32gb partition?

    Hi.
I have successfully gone through the Boot Camp Assistant, created a 32gb partition and installed my new copy of Windows 7.
After the usual couple of reboots Windows runs fine but the problem is the amount of space Windows C: drive is showing me as available to use. Like I said, this partition is 32gb and the red bar is almost full! It says I have only 2.33gb remaining!!
It took me 2 attempts to get windows installed and working properly (i'm a first time mac user and have no experience using bootcamp)... so upon failing the first time I rebooted into Lion, opened Boot Camp Assistant and removed Windows before my second attempt, maybe this has damaged the disk?
My spec if it's of any use...
    Mac OS X Version 10.7.3
    27-inch - 3.4 GHz i7
    16gb DDR3 - Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
Thanks for any advice or solutions, I'm a noob in need of help.
    Craig

In theory and posted by Microsoft, which I find to be next to impossible:
    16GB for 32-bit
    why that does not work:
    page file 4-16GB
hibernation file - size of physical RAM and useful to have and use
    20GB for core Windows
    10GB just to apply updates
    3-6GB for minimum programs
3-5GB for cache, temp and icons etc
    any data or large programs
    free space to run properly
SSD need room for TRIM and month' worth of writes and for Background Garbage
60GB and no less for Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

  • Can I use Windows 7 upgrade disk with my empty bootcamp partition?

In upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, I had to get rid of my Bootcamp partition running Windows XP in order for the Lion install to work successfully. I can run bootcamp and put in a new partition now.
I originaly backed up my Bootcamp partition with Winclone. It turns out that it's not really possible to restore a Windows XP partition under Lion.
No big loss. I don't have any real data of importance on that saved XP data.
However, I really need to install Windows 7.
The UPGRADE version is lower in cost.
But with NO WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM  residing in my Bootcamp partition, can I use the "UPGRADE" version of Windows 7? I do have a numeric product key for Windows XP.
Alternatively, for $199 I can buy the full install version.
    Thanks

    Stef,
Here's a way to use Winclone. Run Snow Leopard and Lion both, on your machine. Install Winclone to the Snow leopard partition. It will work. I've done this same thing on my MBP. Lion will run well if installed clean on a separate partition. Once SL is up and Winclone is installed, you can image the Boot Camp drive easily, just as before. You can do the Windows restore via Winclone before or after the install of Lion - as long as the Boot Camp partition is set up. You can also restore it the same way. So, you have SL installed as a way to run old PPC programs and Winclone, etc. I don't know if it matters, but this is the order I installed (I tested this out on a new hard drive before touching my existing drive):
    1) Snow Leopard
    2) Boot Camp
    3) Lion
I ope this helps you as well as it did me.

  • Qosmio X300-15U - Product key for Windows 7 upgrade disk

    Hello All,
    firts post here :)
I have a Qosmio X300 15U, and just bought DVD upgrade for the OS: from Vista64 to Win 7 (home premium).
I got it by Toshiba Winodws 7 upgrade site.
I installed the upgrade and it's working fine, so far.
Only possible problem for the future, is that I cannot seem to find the Windows 7 product key label attached on the DVD paper case (probably lost it)
I have the DVD (for other serials, or so...)
Does anybody know if it's possible to make Toshiba support, send my old Windows 7 product Key or a new one (just in case of reinstall...)
It also appears that Microsoft has validated my install through their Tool (WGA, I think)
Do I need to revert to MS (paid) assistance, for such a (simple, to me) case?
    Hope Not.
    Thanks a lot.
    Bye,
    Diego

I don't know if Toshiba can send you a new productkey-label, you should call the helpdesk. But to find your productkey you need a key finder tool.
Try [this link|http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/tp/topkeyfinder.htm] for a list of those programs.

  • Can I Install Windows 7 On 27" Imacs (36 of Them) With The Upgrade Disk?

    So basically, we have a 36 station iMac 27" lab, with 1 Mac Pro and 15 2.8 duo and 2.53 i5 MBP's.
We purchased the Windows 7 upgrade disk(by we I mean the "lead" tech guy)which normally shouldn't be a problem.
However as many of you know, the GPU drivers don't quite work out with 7, so you need to follow the workaround provided by Apple. Apple needs you to have the regular install disk that is recognized by Bootcamp.
All we can do is set it to start from disk after XP is installed.
So can we do anything? Is Apple going to update bootcamp so that we can just flat out install it? In the meantime, is there a workaround, can we trick bootcamp into reading an upgrade disk.
    Thanks for the help.

i dunno about upgrade disc. but i upgraded from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate (32bit and 64bit with clean install) with a full installation disc with upgrade option selected. there is 1 issue i faced when installing, fooling me that its a failed attempt at first. maybe this is the problem most of us is having. i have boot camp 3.0 installed in fact.. boot camp 3.1 is not for me. i don need that. this is the problem while installing, the screen will just go blank after the windows 7 finishes install... but the main thing is i can still press the caps lock on and off. 1st i thought it is a failed attempt. to resolve this, enter ur username (actually windows is asking for ur username), and press enter... now hard restart the imac (press and hold the power button). right when the white screen disappear, press f8 button for optional boot selection. choose "safe mode", and wait. if a screen appear saying that the installation cannot continue with safe mode. restart the imac until u reached the blank screen again where u have to insert ur username. i did this actually, i did a lot of clicking and enter, and entering my username. and restart the thing again, press f8 to safe mode. until i go into safe mode successfully. when i am in safe mode, i go to device manager and deleted the graphic card (mine radeon hd4850), in fact that is the windows driver for hd4850 and restart the imac. this time i am 100% sure i can login to windows 7. when in windows 7, just update the device driver from imac 27" DVD from boot camp, and restart. u have to update the sound and bluetooth driver too in order to have proper sound card and magic mouse operation.
maybe i am a bit off, but hope this helps. cheers.

  • Installing new HDD after Windows XP to Windows 7 upgrade on my T400

A few weeks ago I did a clean install to upgrade my T400 laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7 Professional, using the upgrade version of Windows 7 (vs. the complete new installation version - saved about $100.00).
Now I want to upgrade my HDD from 250GB to 500GB. I purchased the HDD from Lenovo, expecting the drive to come with some guidance for the upgrade other than how to physically replace the drive. Unfortunately, no such help found.
I have researched this and I think I have a few options. I could 1) clone my current hard drive or 2) do a clean reinstall on the new drive.
While looking over Microsoft's knowledge base I came a cross an article that said that I couldn't use the Windows 7 upgrade disk on a new hard drive. The article said I would first have to recover the original Windows XP OS onto my laptop, and then use the upgrade disk. Is that right? Do I really have to start over (upgrading to Windows 7 was a bear)?
If I clone my hard drive (I have the necessary hardware & software) will the upgraded Windows 7 be operable on the new hard drive?
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

You should be fine with cloning the drive. Microsoft normally limits the "upgrade" to only installing over an already existing Windows or a drive with Windows on it. So yes, it is not going to install on a bare drive for you.
As long as the clone aligns the partition properly, if necessary, then the cloned drive should operate fine. I cloned my initial HDD when upgrading to an SSD. Windows might require you to re-verify the machine because of the hardware change. However, changing only one component is not supposed to trigger the verification process. Once you know that it is working properly, you Windows license probably requires you to delete it from the old drive.

  • Restore Computer Back to Vista after Windows 7 upgrade and back again?

I got Satellite L505-S6946 that came with Vista Home Premium installed (I immediately made backup-5 disks in all). I got the free Windows 7 upgrade disk from Toshiba and upgraded my laptop. I messed up and did not make the backup disks like I should have. I had to reinstall windows 7 more than once (shouldn't let others use my computer!) and it hasn't seem to run quite the same after reinstall. I also noticed that for a driver Intel ICH9 Family SMBus Controller 2930 it says no device driver installed. I didn't notice that before. And I have tried to install it. Whatever the cause, to me it just doesn't seem to run the same. I was wondering if I could go back and reinstall Vista from my disks and then upgrade to windows 7 with my upgrade again (and this time make backup copy!)? I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question but I am not really computer savvy. Thank You. Jakey58

Just adding my two cents worth...
We have lots of machines running Windows Vista. (I'm typing this message on one.) They work just fine. I never even consider upgrading them to Windows 7.
Just because the Geeks don't like Vista and just because Microsoft wants you to use the latest and greatest doesn't mean you must upgrade.

  • Vista with Windows 7 upgrade

If I get a Windows 7 upgrade disk and install it over my current Vista, and then upgrade to Lion, what will I have to do if I ever need to reinstall Windows 7 since I will only have it as an upgrade disk? I don't want to buy a full version for the one thing I need it for. Any help is appreciated. Thanx In Advance!!!

    OK, here come the details:
Scenario 1: Vista works, Boot Camp 3.x is running with no issues, and you have SL or Lion on the Mac side.
A reminder: If you already had a Boot Camp Volume, do not repartition it or you will lose data!
If you have Vista and have not yet upgraded to 7, do nothing on the Windows slice of your hard drive at this time.
In Lion, run the Boot Camp Assistant and select the option to make a CD with drivers.  This should fetch Boot Camp 4.0 from Apple's servers.  Quit the Assistant when done burning the disc--we'll use it *after* the upgrade..
    Now, in Windows:
Follow the instructions in this article to prevent the Win 7 installer from crashing  The utility linked there turns off Windows' ability to see the Mac volume.
Make sure you have a valid upgrade edition of 7, which also matches your current Vista's architecture (32 or 64-bit)  Generally, use the same "flavor" of  7 as your Vista is now.  Ultimate trumps all, but few really need it
Insert the 7 upgrade disc, and run Setup from inside Vista.
    Specify an Upgrade install.
Wait patiently while Windows performs the upgrade
Complete the first-run setup and activate Win 7
Get your Boot Camp 4 disc, and insert it to begin the Boot Camp update  Access to the Mac volume should be restored as Boot Camp restarts.
Scenario 2: You can't install Vista first for whatever reason, or you are crossing architectures from 32-bit to 64-bit or the reverse
    Insert your Win 7 upgrade
Restart the Mac with the Win 7 DVD in the DVD drive.  As the tone sounds, hold "C"
Step through Windows Setup and perform a Custom install until you get to the partitioning screen.  Select "Drive options" here.
Select the partition which was set for Boot Camp.  Click Format.
Continue with Setup and load Win 7.  You'll get asked for your product key, but you should skip this entry while setting up the OS--this first install isn't meant to last long, as it will be "upgraded"
Eject the disc via My Computer--the eject key doesn't work yet!
Install Boot Camp 4 as above
Now, run the Setup from inside Win 7.  This time, do an Upgrade as per Scenario 1 above.
    Good luck,
    Nate
