OK, I have downloaded Windows 10 Upgrade and it all goes well until the computer restarts. Once it boots up again, the upgrade does not continue and I just go back to Windows 8.1. Windows 10 upgrade fail - black screen

Hi - installed windows 10 via upgrade - failed part way through with the error message "something happened". Downloaded the install ISO for usb drive - did a clean install from that (including format HD) - win10 installed ok, then 10 min later screen went black. I left the pc for several hours - nothing happened so I did a hard reset. Now when I turn on it powers up, passes bios message, then hangs on black screen. If I hard reset again the windows diagnostic runs but finds no solution - I can boot in to Safe Mode but when restarting again goes back to black screen. I've tried plugging in an external monitor to the hdmi -no luck. Have tried clean reinstall several times- no luck. Any suggestions?

If I don't install the graphics drivers, Windows Update automatically downloads and installs drivers which then cause the black screen. The only solution I have so far is to set my wifi connection as "metered" so it doesn't download and install updates automatically. I can install other updates and drivers manually, but this isn't ideal.

Ok, here we go with some explanations, this might be a long post. Laptop specification: Series: Y570Intel Core i7-2670QM @ 2.20GHzRAM: 8 GB256GB Crucial M550 mSATA SSD drive - previously there was a 32GB SSD drive750 GB WD Scorpio Blue HDD driveWindows 7 Pro NRapidDrive driver installed I have been fighting with Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade for about 10 days now with no luck. In my case the main thing is to keep the data on hard drives and the main problem is the RapidDrive driver.I know you can do a clean install but this would cause a data loss. 1. When you try to upgrade to Windows 10 with configuration mentioned above or similar you will most probably get an error message during second stage of Win10 installation (1st - copying files goes ok., 2nd - installation of drivers and functions fails, 3rd - never got to it with both drives plugged in). You will most probably get BSOD with error message kernel_security_check_failure. This is caused by the incompatibility of RapidDrive driver with Windows 10 (the same was with Windows 8) 2. In my case with bigger SSD drive I have managed to upgrade to Windows 10 but only partially. During the upgrade process at first reboot I have powered off the computer and taken out the HDD. Started back up and system installed/upgraded on the SSD. Due to the fact that the system was upgraded, it took over all the drivers from previous instance (Windows 7) together with RapidDrive.This is now causing two things:1) When I plug in the HDD, system will boot once and only once normally. Second power on/restart/wake up from hibernation or whatever will cause BSOD with kernel_security_check_failure message 2) Removing the RapidDrive driver files (HybridCFileX64.sys, HybridDiskX64.sys, LhdX64.sys) together with all corresponding registry entries will cause BSOD with inaccessible_boot_device message. This will show up regardless if the HDD is plugged in or not As from what I have seen and figured out RapidDrive driver modifies the disk/partition size somehow in partition table so the size of the disk is in fact bigger that it really is. As far as I know, nobody was able to uninstall the RapidDrive driver so far to split the SSD and HDD drives. But maybe someone has some suggestions? The problem with Y570 with RapidDrive installed, is the driver and since Lenovo has not done anything with it for about 4 years, I believe they have abandoned the solution leaving users with existing problem.The only hope is either within the users that will be able to find an uninstallation method or with MS that will find a way to upgrade or delete the **bleep** driver.

Windows Anytime Upgrade fails (NB505)

Brand new NB505-N500, wanted to upgrade to Windows 7. Installed the MS Upgrade Advisor, probably more of formality, everything OK. However, when I launch the Windows Anytime Upgrade, and select the first choice, "Go online to choose...", I get nothing but a blank page with a little red X. 2nd choice to enter a key directly displays OK.
Tried repeatedly, and installed all the latest MS patches - still no change.
Called support and they referred me to call MS. Have to wait till they are open on Monday.
In the log file, found the URL that the Upgrade program uses, and it looks to be Toshiba/OEM product dependent:

Hi,I have a hp pavilion 15 notebook c with AMD A8 processor running factory installed windows 8.1 64 bit version.I have been getting windows update messages and i had already registered for an update to windows 10.But, i have not been able to upgrade. the download process completes and during the initial part of instalation process, it says update could not be completed.I have tried creating media creation tool on my usb and tried to install but failed again.Can anybody help?

My laptop goes nearly all the way through the upgrade proceedure and then reverts to a black screen where it stays. After I power it of and restart it reverts to Windows 7 and I get the following error code: We couldn't install Windows 10 OxC1900101 - 0x400107The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during boot operation Can anyone let me know what the problem is? T440s windows 10 upgrade failed due to lack of Lenovo driver for ac-7260

Anyone know when or where Lenovo will release / has released a windows 10 compatible driver for the Intel Wireless ac-7260 wifi adapter (mine is in my T440S)? Currently it's not possible to upgrade because the wifi adapter fails to operate correctly and I can find no update from Lenovo for my notebook and the ac-7260 adapter on the site that supports windows 10. I also tried the Intel "generic" drivers but that failed to resolve the problem. I tried many things and just could not get it to work for many different reasons that all boiled down to the adapter driver failing to work and giving errors or simply not working at all. Now that Windows 10 is released surely Lenovo has an adapter driver somewhere for it?

RESOLVED: Turns out I had an "Array networks" SSL VPN client installed as part of my Softlayer ISP's remote desktop package, not Cisco at all but caused the same exact problem. I had to uninstall it completely and have since found out it doesn't work at all with Windows 10 and there is no timeframe to have it updated and Array networks or maybe just Softlayer apparently haven't gone out of their way to inform the public. Thank you guys for your help and I hope others in future will benefit from this post.

Satellite A500 PSAM3E - Windows 7 upgrade fails - Error code: 0x80070570

I am installing the win7 upgrade on my Satellite A500 PSAM3E and when I reach in the Expanding windows files it stop and a message pop up:
*(Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570). *
Installation stop and I could not do anything, I restarted the upgrade but still the same.
I have just received my DVD win7 upgrade from Toshiba, is the DVD corrupted or some other issues, before the installation a message appears that I should uninstall ATI Catalyst install and ATI catalyst control panel.
Needs help from expert who have already done the upgrade.

And why you didnt do this?
Maybe you are running an older version of the display drivers and so you have to uninstall them before you can start the upgrade.
Check this!!
After the successful upgrade you can install the newest display driver version from the Toshiba page.

Windows 10 upgrade failure

16G with 8.1 ProWindows 10 compatibility test passed without incident on both devices and applications. Windows 10 upgrade failed on Windows update and it can't be solved by "Microsoft Fix It" or other manual maneuvers like dele Windows update tem files, stop BITS...etc Upon using USB Media Creation Tool to install the update, it passed all the "Downloads, find updates, space and system checking and proceded to final installation. Unfortunately it always stooped at 24% of "Installing Windows" without any error code but a "Something Happened" dialogbox. Tried clean boot but got the same result. (BTW the languageand locale all been set to the United States, the HP Bios and all updates are current). I love HP and trust their words of capable to upgrade to Windows 10 when I bought this desktop, but now I'm frustrated.

I had the same problem upgrading on my HP Sleekbook 14. Tried 3 times after doing several "repairs". Still get the very cryptic "something has happened" small window after about one hour of install processing. Finally tried to start the clean install to see what questions etc it would ask. It asks for a liscense number and did not accept the 8.1 Pro number I originall had. It seems to be asking for an actual Win 10 number. Obviously I don't have one since it is an upgrade. What number does one use when using the clean install from DVD? Thanks!

I wasn't paying attention so I don't know the precise error I got on the upgrade failure.
All other iTunes upgrades have been fine...no brainers. Done several on this W7 PC.
If I re-download and install a fresh iTunes I assume I will lose my library...true? Can I find and save off my library so I don't have to "discover" all my music which is scattered all over the PC and a 1T attached USB drive.
Or is there some way to get the iTunes upgrade to successfully restart and install correctly?

The following Knowledge Base article provides some recomendations for troubleshooting:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open

Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant failed on Satellite P775

I tried running the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant on my Satellite P775.
It started by displaying
Checking Components; download Windows 8 Components data.
Reading Components.
Got component TOSHIBA Wireless LAN Indicator
... etc ...
Got Component TOSHIBA Contrasena de supervisor
Reading Windows Components.
then displayed a Message Box
"Failed to read Target (Windows 8) INI file."
How can I solve this?

Yes I followed that procedure.
My model is Satellite P775-112 PSBY3E and is listed as being compatible
After installing Windows 8, I noticed that the DVD drive was no longer accessible, as described in the following thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=68222&tstart=0
So I disabled the Windows Service "Toshiba Optical Disc Drive Service" (TODDSrv.exe 1.0.0.8), and the DVD drive is now visible. However Toshiba Video Player still does not work (says it has compatibility issues) and I can not view DVD videos.
I then ran the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, which failed immediately with the error "Failed to read Target (Windows 8) INI file".
I found some posts on the forum with a similar error with the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant (Failed to read Target (Windows 7) INI file. None of the posts has a clear description of what this error means but I've tried all of the suggestions.
Here's a list of what I've tried:
- Rebooted
- Upgraded BIOS to latest version (2.10)
- Run Upgrade Assistant as Administrator
- Run Upgrade Assistant with "Toshiba Optical DIsc Drive Service TODDSrv.exe 1.0.0.8 started or stopped.
My main problems at the moment are:
- Toshiba Optical DIsc Drive Service causes DVD drive to disappear
- Toshiba Video Player won't run
- No way to view DVDs
I'd be happy to install the drivers and applications individually if the Upgrade Assistant doesn't work - is there anywhere I can download them?

I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.
Can anyone please help?

I tried by running the setup from the CD inserted while Windows was running, but setup complained that no license key matched the CD and faled. Strange enough,
setup did not prompt for any license key!
I tried the setup on another, older PC, there it did prompt for license key and setup ended well. At least it was not the CD.
Then I retried booting from setup CD, it loaded files, then started the setup without promptiing for any license key, and failed again.
Then I tried with a Windows 7 CD, same behavior, not prompting for license key and fail to setup.
Then I "repaired" Windows by booting from CD and reformatting the hard drive, dropping all Windows partitions, then restart setup from CD, but it still behaved the same way: not prompting for license key, and failing to setup.
I called the HP support, and they answered that it was a problem for Microsoft (what a good support, the only place where the problem occurs is the hp computer, but let the Customer call Microsoft instead).
So here I am, did any of you use an hp computer, and succeeded in installing Windows 8 PRO NFR from Technet plus on it?

Is it a Chinese Editon preinstalled in HP notebook?
Windows 8 preinstall machine includes a license key in system firmware. So Windows 8 setup will use this key rather than pop up product key input text pop. It is a Microsoft by design issue. So no good mathod to workaround this problem.
