Windows 10 upgrade "killed" USB ports

We attempted to upgrade to Windows 10. When it came up all the USB ports are unusable. We stepped back to Win 7 and the ports are still "dead". We were told there's a virus preventing downloading and installing new USB drivers. If I do a total system recovery will that delete the virus and reactivate the USB ports? Is there any chance the virus has also corrupted the recovery software?

Here is the USB IMage ...Thank you for any suggestions. John

  • Since windows 8.1 usb ports and sound are acting strange

    Hello,
Since I upgraded to windows 8.1 my sound randomly stutters(very anoying) and my usb ports get turned off, only the ports that have been occupied since boot, new things work, and not reinsterting the things that were present at boot, in the same or a different
    port doesn't work.
Hell, why do we pay for an OS that doesn't even work?
I expect that something as simple as an USB port or sound would work just fine.
I have installed all the latest drivers but somehow windows seems to screw things up.
When I boot up debian, I have no problems at ALL. And did I pay a dime for Debian? No, it is free.
I am getting really depressed here, paying for stuff that doesn't work.
So does anyone know any other way to fix this OS than by breaking the disc and never return to it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • P35 Platinum - Intel INF Update kills USB ports?

    Hi All,
I've just built a new system and when I ran the Intel INF Update from the driver cd that came with the motherboard it seemed to update everything fine, but when it re-booted the usb ports weren't working in Windows. Unfortunately both my keyboard and mouse are usb so I had no option but to re-install windows again (which wasn't such a big issue because I hadn't installed anything else yet). Should I bother trying to update them again from the latest versions online? Or as everything seems to be working fine as it is, should I just leave them be?

Hello, you need to wait a bit the USB devices to be re-detected.(just wait 1 min after you logon in windows).
If the drivers really broke the USB ports, reboot PC hit "F8" just after BIOS post(before OS booting) and choice "Last good known Configuration" from there. It will restore provisional working state.

  • Can I upgrade my USB ports from 2.0 to 3.0 in my macbook pro(Late 2011)?

Im thinking about doing some upgrades and i wanted to know if it was possible to upgrade these usb ports

  • W510 Lenovo Bluetooth windows update killed USB Keyboard

    Hi all,
Yesterday afternoon (14 M!R 2012) I ran a windows 7 update that included a Lenovo update. It was some kind of bluetooth thing, but I'm not really sure the exact name. Foolishly, I chose to include this in the update. When I performed the updates and restarted the machine my USB keyboard no longer works. There were 13 updates available for install. 9 of them were critical updates and 4 were optional. I installed 3 of the 4 optional and all of the critical. So when I discovered that the keyboard didn't work, I rollback the update to the last good configuration and the problem persisted. When I looked at what updates were available, 12 of the 13 were there, but the Lenovo bluetooth one wasn't on the list, leading me to believe that it didn't get rolled back.
What I've noticed is that the keyboard is recognized by windows, but I can't type anything. Furthermore, when I do type a few characters with it, after about 5 seconds I hear the "disconnected a USB device" sound. So something is definitely strange, but I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas? I really need the full sized ergo keyboard. The tiny laptop keyboard kills my hands. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I really need my big keyboard or my hands are killing me.
    Thanks,
    Tripp

Totally generic. I have no idea why the bluetooth update would affect it. I'm just pointing the finger there b/c that was the only update that doesn't seem to have been undone by the windows restore operation. At one point last night windows performed an update on the usb drivers, but sadly that didn't solve anything. It's bizarre because windows can see the keyboard, it just doesn't work. Windows doesn't seem to think that there's anything wrong with device and it says the drivers are up to date.

  • Upgrading my USB port

    Hello,
My PowerPC G4 has 1.0 USB card. I need to upgrade to 2.0. Can I simply purchase a USB 2.0 PCI card and replace the old one? I want to make sure that a 2.0 USB card is compatable with the G4 before I purchase it.
I purchased a DVD burner that HAS to be connected directly to the computer...so daisy chaining is not an option.
    Thanks,
    Roland

A USB 2.0 PCI card is what you need. Best bet is any card with a NEC PD72101 chipset (xlr8yourmac results recommend the same). Read this for more feedback:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/firewire/fwusb_card_deepsleep.html
Stick with the NEC chip, and try NOT to use drivers, Tiger doesn't need the drivers.

Go to the device manager and click on the usb controller needing the driver.
Then click on the Details tab at the top of the USB Controller window.
Now you should see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.

  • Can I upgrade  USB port 1.1 to 2.0 ?

I have a G3 iBook with USB 1.1. I want to buy a iPod shuffle which can only use USB 2.0 for the power charge. Can I upgrade my USB port to 2.0, and how my does it cost?
Or can I use FireWire to connect to iPod shuffle as power charge and dowload music?

    Erik Swanson:
i Will this work the same for an ipod nano? I just got one and whenever I connect it, it says, "do not disconnect".
When you first connect any iPod, it will update with any new songs you have. After that, you simply need to "eject" the iPod as you would any other USB or FireWire storage device. The eject option is right next to the iPod's symbol in iTunes, and should be listed on the left side of each Finder window. Also - there's a right-click option to eject on the desktop symbol for your iPod.
Once it's "ejected" you can still leave it plugged in. It'll still draw current to power the device and/or recharge the battery. However - once it's "ejected", you can unplug it at any time since all communication with your Mac has been ended.

  • Can't Upgrade to USB 2.0. Help Please!

I have an K7T266 Pro Version 1.0 motherboard. Have been trying for hours to upgrade the USB port to 2.0. Have followed all instructions from the MSI website.
Even upgrqaded my BIOS to 1.9 and still can't get it to work. When I try to install the USB 2.0 driver, I get a message that says "Driver Can't Start". I have up-to-date windows XP Professional Version with Service Pack 1. According to MSI, I should be able to upgrade but it just doesn't happen.
I remember being able to upgrade to USB 2.0 when the same system was under Win 98 Second Edition but just has not worked with Win XP. This is very important as I bought an external hard drive to use for making backups under Norton Ghost.
Can anyone please help me with this? I am sure some other users out there have had the same problem.
    Thank You in advance...

I have the same problems with this.   THE KT6-Delta cd that came with my motherboard does not have the USB 2.0 drivers.  It directs you to microsoft's website to install service pack one for XP or Win 2000.  Then you can download an update from Microsoft for the USB 2.0.  Is there any way to get around installing SP1?  I currently only have access to dial up and that would take forever.  Can someone give a link to some place that would have the drivers for USB 2.0?

  • Syncing music with USB port 1.1

I just got an iPod classic 160GB, but it doesn't communicate with my computer properly.
I tried to put some songs to the new iPod, but after syncing 20 songs I got the error message "Attempting to copy to the disk "(iPod name)" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I called AppleCare to solve the problem, and the guy told me that I need to upgrade the USB port from 1.1 to 2.0.
Does anybody know if I really need to upgrade my USB port to 2.0?
I read some of the topics on this discussion page and some people were saying that the USB 1.1 works with iPod classics.
I also want to know if any of the transfer cables which convert FireWire to USB2.0 works with iPods.
I don't want to spend any more money to upgrade my computer to make it work with my iPod.
    (I had to upgrade OS)
Please help me to get my iPod work!!

The USB port on your Cinema is a port on the built-in hub in the display. It can't supply the power needed by the iPhone.

  • Connecting an hp laserjet 2000 to windows 8 usb port

Hi, and thanks in advance to any and all who can answer my question.
I am in the process of upgrading to an new Windows 8 desktop PC that only has USB ports.  I have an HP Laserjet 4000 printer that has a large parallel printer port that currently connects with a parallel printer cable to my existing Windows XP (upgraded to 7 PC.)  According to all the info I can find the printer should be compatable with windows 8 but I cannot find out what kind of a connection cable I need.  Will a simple Parallel to USB cable work or do I need something specific to the HP Laserjet 4000?
    Thanks again for any help.

    Hello,
I have connected those printers to my Macs with OS X using a USB to Parallel printer cable (like the one you propose). It worked just fine.
I did have to download and install the Gimp-Print printer drivers and set those up (since the 4si doesn't have any Mac drivers). So, you may need to get the free Gimp-Print package installed as well.
But, yes, the USB to Parallel cable is all you need for making the connection. The cable does not require any drivers. Just plug it in, and connect the printer to the computer. Then, set-out configuring the printer drivers to talk with your printer.
You can get the Gimp-Print package at:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
    I hope this helps.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been unable to sync devices (specifically ipad mini and iphone 4s) to my MId 2013 Imac . They wil rapidly connect and disconnect, and I'm unable to do anything with the device. This happens with both USB ports.  Any suggestions?

Obviously, syncing an iOS device with iTunes over USB is still supported in Mavericks. Calendar and contact syncing with iTunes is no longer supported. That has nothing to do with your problem.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

I'm using windows 7, trying to download pictures from my canon 5d mark 2, but when I click import, the camera does not appear. I've tried changing USB ports, switching the camera on and off, trying a different USB cord, tried a different camera, but nothing. Please help! This problem only started a few days ago on lightroom 3.6, upgraded to 5.5, but still not working. Thanks.

Can you see the Canon EOS camera and image files using Windows Explorer? If not disconnect the camera, close all applications' shutdown Windows, and TURN OFF the power to your system and ALL connected devices. Disconnect all phones, iPads, and any other USB devices and restart your system.
Retry Windows Explorer and see if your camera is showing. If so try LR import again.

  • USB Ports Not Working - L530 (Windows 8 - 64 Bit)

I was recently having problems with the USB ports and SD Card reader on my laptop coming out of hibernation.  I had to start the Lenovo Solutions Center and run the Hardward Check and they would start working.  Then, programs would start hanging in the middle of operation so I called the Lenovo support.  They suggested I upgrade the BIOS.
Now that I have upgraded the BIOS, the applications still hang mid processing, but I cannot get my USB drivers working again.  I have tried turning them on in the hardward and devices menu, without success.  I have refreshed the whole computer and reset the settings to default in the setup utility.  The only thing I haven't done is start from scratch with the recovery disks because I want to make a backup, which I can't do without the USB drive working.
Does anyone have any ideas that I can try?

    Hi, ralbritton
There are two things I would try to see if they alleviate this issue: Firstly, I would go to the BIOS of the system and make sure that the USB ports are set to Enabled under Security ► I/O Port Access. Secondly, I would attempt to boot the system into Safe Mode and try to use the USB ports in this mode. If the USB ports do not work under these conditions then it is likely that the motherboard is going bad, which can also explain the hanging programs to an extent. If this turns out to be the case, then I would give Lenovo Support a call at 1-800-426-7378 and discuss a motherboard replacement.
To boot into Safe Mode into Windows 8:
When in Windows, open the Charms Bar from the right.
    Select Settings
    Select Power
While holding down the left shift key, click Restart
Continue to hold down the left shift key until a menu appears.
    Select Troubleshoot
    Select Advanced Options
    Select Startup Settings
    Click Restart
Select Safe Mode from the list that appears after boot (should be #4)
    Best of luck,
    Adam
