Windows 10 upgrade product key
When upgrading to Windows 10 in few days, will I need my current product keycode for the upgrade or will I be able to just upgrade with no problems? Have an Acer Aspire E15 and I don't want to be led on a merry chase trying to do a legitimate upgrade considering I already have the upgrade reserved probably like a lot of people.
if you windows 7-8.x is activated with a legit product key, you just need to upgrade, nothing else.no need of product key. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-faq?

HP Stream Windows 8.1 Product Key
I purchased a Stream 13 laptop with Windows 8.1 built in.
I recently installed the Technical Preview for Windows 10 with the intention of upgrading to Windows 10 when it is released for public use. How do I determine my original Windows 8.1 key that the laptop shipped with? If I understand correctly, this is saved in the BIOS. I ask this in case 1) I need to downgrade to Windows 8.1, or 2) The key is needed for my final upgrade to Windows 10 when it is available for the public ThanksHi,

I have ordered a new laptop and expect to receive it in 2-3 weeks. The laptop comes with an OEM version of Windows 8 installed. I wish
to install Linux as the host operating system and create a virtual machine running Windows 8. Can I legally use the product key from the OEM installation to activate a virtual machine that will only be used on the laptop that had the original OEM installation?
If so, what is the procedure to activate the copy installed on the virtual machine?
This question has been addressed for Windows 7, but my searches did not reveal this question posed for Windows 8.Technically, no. The OEM is licensed only for the physical hardware on the system. It isn't licensed for virtual hardware.
You may find you're unable to activate your OEM license in the VM. A lot of OEM Windows look for specific hardware to verify they're being installed on the correct hardware.
Although here: http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/Pages/support-faq.aspx#fbid=Zh0SiBdas5I
Q. Can I install OEM on a virtual machine (VMware)?
A. You may install OEM in a virtual environment as long as you have a separate license for each instance of the software. It is fine to use the OEM version as long as it is properly licensed. To be clear, a separate version of software must be installed
for both the “standard” and “virtual” installations.
You still may not be able to activate if there is a hardware block.
The best place to ask this is to Microsoft licensing, any response you get here, including mine, won't hold up since it's not an official answer.

How to find Windows 8.1 product key on the laptop?
I have a problem since doing the windows updates. My laptop seams to have erased everything off my hard drive, I have a legitimate windows 8 disk to reinstall it but no product key, is there anyway to find it on the laptop?
I have tried doing the regedit, but can't seam to find it any whereWhen you buy new notebook and get it with preinstalled OS you will get one valid version that includes valid product key.
With other words original version that you got with your machine will be properly activated. Product key belongs to this original version only and you cannot use it for activation if you want to install own OS version.
For your Win8 version you must pick up product key from Microsoft.
Of course you can have original OS version again but you must order it by Toshiba - https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx -
Windows 8.1 Product Key doesn't work
Back in November, I bought a Lenovo Y50 Laptop that came with Windows 8.1 already preinstalled. After a month or so, a message kept popping up telling me to activate windows. It then would take me to PC Settings to activate it. I could see that there was already a Product Key being used but it said i hadnt activated it yet. I found my product Key but eveytime I try to enter it, an error comes up saying "The key didn't work. please check it and try again, or try a different key"
Also if I try to activate Windows Online it does not let me do so. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
Solved!
Go to Solution. There are two things I can think of. First is that you are entering in the wrong key. As I cannot see what you are looking at I cannot tell for sure. But there are several characters that look similar like the 0 and O or the I and l. Take a look at what you see and make sure you are typing in the correct characters. There is another way to make sure. Get a copy of Belarc and run it. In the log is your Windows 8.1 key. Copy it from Belarc and paste it into Microsoft Word or some other word processor and then change the font. Some fonts will allow you to be able to tell the difference.
The other suggestion is to contact Microsoft. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/activation-errors

Windows 8 error "product key does not match any of the Windows images available for installation"
Hi Experts
My HP Pavilion laptop came with window 8. I made the USB recovery for windows 8 using hp recovery manager. My windows was corrupted, while I was trying to install windows 7 in dual boot.
I used above USB recovery to restore factory default. But every time it is giving me error "HP Recovery Manager Failed error code = 0xefffff08"
Then I downloaded the OEM ISO mage for windows 8 and tried to do the clean install but now installation process is giving me error "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key"
Please help me. To whom I have to contact?Hi ghost-rider,
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to assist you.
I understand you tried to do a recovery and you received this error "oxefffff08".
First I would suggest you run a hardware diagnostics. Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)
If no hardware failures are located, you have ruled that possibility out.
Here is a link to Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 8) that may help.
If you are still having an issue doing a recovery, I suggest contacting HP support and explain the issue you are having with doing a recovery. They may have another option available for you.
Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region Technical Support Sitemap
The clean install from an OEM image is looking for the product code as it does not match the one that came with the computer, You would need a new code.
I hope this has helped.

Well I've been trying to find a full installment of Windows 7 32/64 bit Ultimate/Home Edition/Professional but I can't find a disc. So basically I'm asking can I just download Windows 7 from the internet with the product key or do I HAVE TO get a disc and install it through Bootcamp?
I don't know if you can legally download a full Windows 7 installer, but if you can find one, you just need to copy the image to a flash drive. See:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
and
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4087200?start=0&tstart=0
Amazon has several different versions of Windows 7 available on disk, though. Have you tried them?

Windows 8, the Product Key is now encypted in the Bios and Windows7 Pro install
I have had to reinstall my ProBook from sratch. It was configured from the supplier with Win 7 Pro. Now I need the Product Key and I beleive it is a Windows 8 Product Key and encypted in the Bios. How can I get my machine running on Win 7 Pro or even Win 8 Pro. Either would be good? Is there a mothod to retreive the Product Code?
Yes you can retrieve your product code either in Windows activation page or you can install HP support centre. If you have warranty you can make a technical chat with the expert and they will will guide you through the screens. If your warranty has expired you can call toll free number of HP support for your country and you can explain them your problem so that they will help. The product key will be encrypted in BIOS. So they will help you.
