We have already released our product for WinRT desktop and tablet versions.
Now we are developing the same app for Windows 8.1 Phone.
We are supporting 'Windows-1250', 'Windows-1251', 'Windows-1252', 'Windows-1253', 'Windows-1254', 'Shift-JIS', 'GB2312' and 'Big5' in both desktop and tablet versions which uses WinRT API's.
But in Windows 8.1 Phone version, i am getting 'ArgumentException' saying 'Windows-1252' is not a supported encoding name.
Please help me with a solution or workaround to support the above specified code pages for Encoding.

Getting null value while parsing "XML String" with encoding WINDOWS-1252.

when I am converting the Follwoing "xml string " to Document, I am getting the "null" as a document value.

I am using the following code to convert the "xml string" to Document. I am getting the Document values as a "null" while converting the above "string xml"

(without the rest of the code, i'm guessing that) most likely you are grabbing the first child node of the item element. however, you are not accounting for some text nodes that are most likely in that list, like the whitespace between the item element and the attribute element. please go read some tutorials on xml, there are thousands of them out there, and they will answer all you initial questions much more efficiently than posting each step to the forums.

IsSchemaValid does chang the xml-encoding header from UTF-8 to WINDOWS-1252

SQL>First, the character set changes because isSchemaValid() causes the document to be parsed and converted to the internal database character set, as does storing it in a table.
It appear that your solution works in SQL because the semantics of SQL are such that it causes a 'copy' of the XMLType to take place before running the isSchemaValid() processing, were we to optimize away that copy as a result of a patch or performance optimization project then you solution would break...
If you want the output in a particular character set you should force that using XMLSerialize or getBlobVal(charsetid). Unfortunately we don't have a convience method for writing BLOBS on DBMS_XSLPROCESSOR...

Opening windows-1252 named files on Linux

The situation:
A bunch of files on a directory, some with English names, other with French accented names and some other with Spanish accented names. Some of the files have been created on Windows (thus named using windows-1252) and other on Linux (named using UTF-8). The directory ?/tests/? is on a Debian testing GNU/Linux Machine using UTF-8 as default enconding method.
The immediate objective. (actually not a functional one... yet)
List the properties of each file on the directory.
The problem.
Even creating a java.io.File object ?pointing? to the containing directory and then calling File[ ] listFiles( ) to get a File object for each file on the directory, the object which are suppose to point to files with accented names on windows-1252 don't reach the actual file, or at least the isFile() returns false.
I tried putting System.setProperty("file.enconding", "windows-1252") on the begining of the code but I kept getting the same result.
I'll put an example code at the end of the message as well as the output I get.
By the way, I ran the same code on windows machine and could list all the files on directory (actually all the files on that directory where named using windows-1252).
Is there a way to create a java.io.File object using a specific encoding method?
If not, is there any other way to get information from the file system?

I downloaded and tryed with IBM's most recent jdk of the 1.5.x serie...
Even thought it didn't work... The bug is present in a different way...
IBM's jvm skips the not_UTF-8_ok encoded character and the next one.... As a result the resulting File object doesn't point the file either.
I also downloaded some java based applications which make use of the java.io.File class (and mp3 player and a file browser) and present the same problem.. they can list the file (with some problems displaying its name)... but can't open it...
I'll have a look at the release notes for java 6 to see if it fixed, if not I'll go and see if it's already reported, if not.. well I'll report it.

When i try to deploy my JSP aaplication deployment 'webapp1.deploy' to Weblogic6.1, the following error raised:
[weblogic.xml.process.XMLParsingException: The encoding "windows-1252" is not supported. - with nested exception:
I have tried to change the endoding setting of project but no changes updated.

Creo que no lo has entendido bien. Me refiero a que en un
mismo bloque =
de texto que tiene texto en negro y texto en otro color no
sobreimprime =
el negro al tener tambi=E9n texto en otros colores pero que
si =
sobreimprime el negro si el texto s=F3lo tiene texto en negro
y no texto =
en negro y texto en otros colores como me pasa a mi.
He visto que dentro de la opci=F3n del men=FA =
XTRAS/crear/sobreimpresi=F3n..... te puede sobreimprimir el
texto negro =
preseleccionado pero claro si hablamos de un A5 con todo
texto negro y 5 =
o 6 palabras en color, el texto negro seleccionado no lo
sobreimprime =
porque hay muchos objetos seleccionados.
La =FAnica soluci=F3n viable que he podido optar es
seleccionar el texto =
negro con la herramienta de seleccionar y volverlea
a=F1adirle relleno =
de negro y activar la opci=F3n de sobreimpresi=F3n de manera
manual.
Hasta ah=ED todo bi=E9n, pero pensemos... si tengo 128
p=E1ginas... no =
hay una opci=F3n que lo haga por defecto =BF?
Porque es una putada que por dos palabras que est=E1n en
color al =
trazar el texto no sobreimprima el negro.

Seguramente tengas tu texto en otro color que no es
puramente negro, y =
por eso no te lo sobreimprime...
Por defecto, FreeHand te sobreimprime el texto negro sobre
cualquier =
otro color.
Al trazarlo deber=EDa respetar estos seteos por defecto...
Chequea que los textos en cuesti=F3n no est=E9n pintados con
otro =
color que no sea el negro puro.
