Windows 2000 client

Hi,
My server is win NT and my clients are both win NT and windows 2000.My Oracle version is 8.1.6 in client.
When i try to connect to my server through the NET8 client(from win2000) i get the error message as "TNS-12545 OBJECT OR HOST DOESN'T EXIST".My tnsnames.ora has valid service names and my listener is also running in the server.when i tnsping and ping to the NT server it is working. At this moment my windows NT clients are able to connect to the database. The tracing and log options are enabled and the request is logged in the files.
At some times the windows 2000 machine are able to connect but not at all times.
The same problem exists with the Oracle 8.1.7 version also.
thanks in advance

Hi,
Try to use a earlier version of Oracle Client, ex. 8.0.4/8.0.6. Maybee you can connect then.

  • Can A Windows 2000 Client Join A Windows 2012 Domain ?

I have set up a Server 2012 VM that I have configured as a DC.  The desktop environment consists of Windows 7, Windows XP and a few Windows 2000 machines.  All desktops can JOIN the 2012 domain, but when I try to add domain users to any of the
Windows 2000 (SP4) workstations, it fails with the error "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed".
Unjoining the workstation from the domain (or going into ADUC and deleting the Win 2000 computer from the domain) and trying again yields the same result.  I do not have this problem when the Windows 2000 machines are joined to a Server 2008 R2 domain.
At this point, I'm leaning towards setting it up as a 2008 R2 DC, and moving to a 2012 DC once we have weaned ourselves off of the Windows 2000 desktops.  Is there any hope of getting things to work with a 2012 DC from the start ?

    Hi,
Based on my research, Windows 2000 client is not supported for Windows 2012 DC.
Windows client and Windows Server operating systems that are supported to join Windows Server 2012 domains
The following Windows client and Windows Server operating systems are supported for domain member computers with domain controllers that run Windows Server 2012:
Client operating systems: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP
Computers that run Windows 8 are also able to join domains that have domain controllers that run earlier version of Windows Server, including Windows Server 2003 or later. In this case however, some Windows 8 features may require additional configuration or
may not be available. For more information about those features and other recommendations for managing Windows 8 clients in downlevel domains, see
Running Windows 8 member computers in Windows Server 2003 domains.
Server operating systems: Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003

  • EAP with Windows 2000 client and IAS server

Several messages on this site point to peole using EAP on a Windows 2000 client and authenticating against an IAS server. I am running an Aironet 350 AP and trying to setup my Windows 2000 clients to use EAP only and authenticate against a Windows 2000 AD forest via IAS. The access point and client are on the latest firmware and drivers (12.0 for AP). I have two basic questions.
    1. It is my understanding that by enabling Network-EAP as the only authenticaiton type that users will authenticate and then dynamic WEP keys will be used, greatly reducing the risks of compromised WEP keys while at the same time keeping the data encrypted.
    2. Does anyone have a quick HOW-TO or point-by-point list of how to configure the Windows 2000 client to authentication using the Network-EAP method? I am currently running into a situation where no matter what I configure on the client, the IAS server reports and error with "Reason: The authentication type is not supported on this system." I also noticed that the "Authentication-Type" and "EAP-Type" fields shown in the IAS messages in the Windows 2000 Event Viewer log have the value "<undetermined>". Has anyone else run into this?

I'm having a similar problem. I'm trying to do PEAP and it appears that IAS is not handling the request properly. It keeps trying to log the user PEAP-##### in instead of setting up the TLS and then asking for Username, Pass, Domain. The IAS error message I'm getting is:
    User PEAP-00097CFCD901 was denied access.
    Fully-Qualified-User-Name = APPLY\PEAP-00097CFCD901
    NAS-IP-Address = 172.16.200.31

    NAS-Port = 37
    Policy-Name =
    Authentication-Type = EAP
    EAP-Type =
    Reason-Code = 8

So if anybody has the needed settings for Win2k (SP3 and 802.1x patch) IAS it would be much appreciated.

    Note: if I had PEAP-####### as a user in Win2k I get:

  • Cant acces from Windows 98 clients

Hi I have Oracle9iAS under Windos2000 Server and every thing works OK except that Clients from Windos98 or XP can't acces my portal page or OEM of my host.
I have edited theirs hosts file and we can ping to my host but They can't display my portal page or display the http://<host.domain>:port URL
Do anybody have had the same Problem?
From a Linux or another Windows 2000 Client we don't have problems.

In my case, copying the sqlnet.ora from the linux server box to the nt client box simply worked for me, as long as the following are met:
    1) Do not use loopback interface in your configuration files. (No 127.0.0.1)
    2) clients should be able to resolve the same hostname(+domain name) specified in your configuration files .. using DNS or whatever.
    3) If you are using Oracle Names (and ONLY oracle Names), all you need at the client machine is sqlnet.ora as long as you specify:
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH=(ONAMES)
AFAIK, tHe only thing needed to be different per client is the SQLNET.CRYPTO_SEED (if you have it defined). However, 8i on Linux does not seem to support the Advanced Security Options ... even though it said it was installed. (Anyone got this working?)

  • Windows 2000 and 8.1.7 on Linux

I am running Oracle 8.1.7 on Redhat 7.1. I have installed the client portions of Designer 6i release 2 and Webdb 2.2.0.0.5 on a Windows 2000 client with the database portions residing in the database on linux. While working in designer and webdb I occasionally lose my database connection and sometimes when I attempt to log on I get a TNS packet writer failure (ORA-12571) on my first attempt to connect and then get right in on my second connection attempt. Is anyone else running this configuration? Does anyone know if this is a Windows 2000 or a Linux problem?
    Thanks,
    Don Tipton

Just out of curiosity, are these data loads replacing the existing data, or adding to them, and are they growing in size? And how big are the files now, in terms of record count and record length? Also, I would issue the 'show parameters' command on both the NT and Linux machines to see if there are any huge differences in sizing somewhere.
If the tables are pretty much static in size and aren't updated much, you might benefit from defining Stored Outlines for the queries that refer to these tables. Once defined, this will store an execution plan in the data dictionary rather than re-generate one at query time.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 client installer won't work under windows 2000

I am trying to run the latest oracle client install of 8.1.7 on my windows 2000 PC and when I double click on it, it show the hour glass for a few seconds, then nothing happens. No screens come up at all. I have a Dell PC with an ATI rage 16 MB ultra card and I have dowlnloaded the latest jre 1.1.8 and nothing helps. If I try another kind of PC like my ibm, the installer works fine. Dell has no answers??

I found the solution on another discussion group and it worked for WinNT4 SP6a:
First copy your CD content to your hard disk (by example c:\temp), then rename file "symcjit.dll" (by example "symcjit.old") in directory "c:\temp\Stage\Components\Oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin".
Finally, run Setup.exe in directory "c:\temp\Install\Win32".

  • Window 2000 & RMI client losing network connection

We have a client/server java application communicating via RMI. The application runs perfect when the network is running smoothly. However, once the client loses connectivity with the network, the client runs in offline mode (as expected). However, once the client reestablishes a connection with the network, it is unable to communicate with the Server via RMI. It seems that Windows 2000 reassigns the client's IP address when it goes offline to localhost (127.0.0.1), when the client is reconnected the IP addresses is changed back to the network address, but it is unable to send data to the server running RMI. Any suggestions? We did not experience this problem with Windows NT.

you need to specify the IP address of the server object from the JVM in which it is exported, using -Djava.rmi.server.hostname argument to the JVM (since the client and server run on one machine, you probably want to set this to 127.0.0.1, I think)

  • Oracle 8i Client/ODBC with Windows 2000

Ever since I upgraded(?) to that wonder of modern science, I can't seem to get my Oracle client to work. I've tried every remedy on metalink and still nothing. It's always the same error shown below. Besides moving to Linux, what else is there for me to try?
Fatal NI connect error 12571, connecting to:

    I'm also having this problem.
I'm setting up a C++Builder Application to work with the Oracle
8i Release 2 (8.1.6) using ODBC. Both the clients and the server
are running Windows 2000 Professional. I get the error
"[Oracle][ODBC]Invalid datetime format" whenever I have a DATE
column with a NULL value in it. I tried downloading the latest
ODBC driver from the Oracle web site but this did not solve the
problem. Right now our only solution is to make all the
DATE columns NOT NULL. Do you have any other suggestions?

  • Oracle 8i Client Setup - Windows 2000

We have just installed Oracle 8i on a Windows NT server, and are using the standard LISTENER configuration.
On the client side, we are trying to use Windows 2000. When the install process goes through the setup routine, it keeps wanting to use NAMES SERVER as the way to connect to the server.
There does not appear to be anything that we are doing that would change this set up, ad yet, we can not seem to generate a TNSNAMES.ORA files on the client.
ARe there any known problems with using a Windows2000 client to a WindowsNt server, and if not, what advice might anyone have?

    Hi Douglas:
Can you email me copies of the following:
    tnsnames.ora
    listener.ora
    sqlnet.ora
If any of the files contains a link to the pfile send me that as well.

Where can you find oracle client for 9.2.0.3 for windows 2000? Please advice.

    Shawn,
Instant Client was released in 10gR1 (10.1.0.2). Thus, it is not available for 9.2.0.3.

  • Cannot start the setup of Oracle Client 8.1.6 on Pentium 4 Windows 2000 Professional

I need to install the Oracle Client 8.1.6 on a Compaq Evo D500 Workstation running Pentium 4 1.5GHz with 20G hard disk 128MB ram with OS Windows 2000 Professional. The autorun screen popup but no response when I press the Install/Uninstall products. The machine had installed the Oracle Developer/2000 runtime and running healthy. Does anyone know the fix for this problem?

I have the same problem with 8.1.7 on an ACER Veriton 7200 1.7 GHz , 20GB + 120 GB HD 768 MB Memory.
It happens under NT 4.0 Server SP6 and 2000 Server SP2.
The changing of Graphics Card from AGP to PCI does not solving the problem.
Different graphics resolution and colors also.

  • Is Oracle 8.1.5.0(Client)  compatible with windows 2000 professional ??

Server is 8.1.7 and client is 8.1.5
    DSN is giving a problem.
so i believe is win2k compatible with 8.1.5?
    ur comments are welcomed.

My guess would be that since 8.1.5 predates Windows 2000, it's not certified on that platform. If you have the installation guide that comes with your 8.1.5 CD, the installation guide will have definitive information. I don't recall at the moment where old Oracle documentation goes to die.

    Why?
