Windows 2000 users abandoned?

When I recently tried to buy an album I got a message box telling me to upgrade to v7.4.1 or later. This version is for XP or Vista. With Windows 2000, I am upgraded as far as I can go to v7.3.2.6. After several emails back and forth to iTunes support, they told me I would not be able to "complete an album" but that I should be able to buy an album. They gave me a number for Apple support which is never answered. The recording tells you to call back. What I have discovered is, as a Windows 2000 user, I can buy individual songs but cannot buy an album with a digital booklet, which usually I don't care about. I can buy any album if I want at the rate of 99 cents per song. Has anyone found a solution for this?

The last version of iTunes to support Windows 2000 is 7.3
Download here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes732forwindows2000.html
If your iPod will work with 7.3 you are OK, if it requires a higher version, then you will not be able to use it with iTunes unless you upgrage your OS.
However there are some third party programs that you may be able to use provided you do not want to use the iTunes store or play DRM protected tracks from the store.
Some examples;

  • ACS and Windows 2000 user database communication port

    Could my Windows 2000 SP4 + ACS v3.23 can install any new Windows 2000 service pack ?
    I'm affraid to infect ACS Service.
    So, I want to install firewall on this server to block malicious traffic.
    However, my ACS used external user database Windows 2000 for authentication.
    Who can tell me What protocols or port list they are communication?
    I have to avoid these traffic on my firewall.

    Hi cheng
    I think you can install any servie pack without problem and the SP4 is the latest one for WIN2000 and you server already has this SP
    For your second question you need to specify many protocols according to your active directory config in this link you can find a list of this protocols and the best way is to make debug or logging or use a siniffer to know the exactly protocols flow between your ACS and AD server

  • Windows 2000 user account migrate to new Windows 2012 R2 domain

    Hi all
    I have a customer using Windows 2000 domain with many user accounts and file share service.
    Now they want to use a new Windows 2012 domain without upgrade from old 2000 domain due to some hidden problem.
    Customer requested to keep user name, password, uid for existing file share access.
    May I know any tools for migrate user account from Windows 2000 domain to Windows 2012 domain?
    thx
    Q K

    Hi,
    Can you please confirm your requirement, that is you will be using a new Windows 2012 domain with only the user accounts from Windows 2000 domain.
    If the above text matches your requirement, I would suggest you the following steps,
    1. You can use CSVDE - command line tool to export the AD user information as CSV file from  Windows 2000 domain,
    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/data-center/simplify-admin-tasks-by-exporting-active-directory-data-with-csvde/
    2. Then, you can import the CSV file with required user attributes (domain details modified according to the target domain) to Windows 2012 domain using PowerShell as
    shown in the link given below,
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/bettertogether/archive/2011/01/09/import-bulk-users-to-active-directory.aspx

  • Help for Windows 2000 user

    I have Windows 2000, so I can't use iTunes. Is there any way I can get songs on my 3rd Generation Nano without iTunes

    I had the same problem: new nano requires itunes 7.4, which requires windows XP or vista. I solved by installing Winamp, it works with the new ipod nano. I'm not using itunes anymore, but I plan to keep an eye on itunes updates, because I hope they will support Windows 2000.

  • Windows 2000 users can't get newer albums only available in v7.4.1?

    OK, so I just downloaded iTunes, for the sole reason to purchase the "iTunes Exclusive" _Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) [DELUXE EDITION]_ album. Right?
    I have Windows 2000, so I went through the steps to get the old(er) version. I finally get it downloaded and installed... open up the store, find the album... and it tells me:
    "*This item requires a later version of iTunes to purchase.* To purchase this item, please upgrade to iTunes 7.4.1 or later. iTunes is a free download."
    OK. I go to d/l the update, and it tells me that XP or Vista is a system requirement for download.
    So... you're telling me that if I want to legally purchase this album, I need a new [expletive] PC? +(or Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch, blah blah blah...)+
    *WHAT THE [EXPLETIVE]?* I've had iTunes under 10 min. and I hate it already.
    Please tell me I'm very very wrong & am missing something incredibly stupid, and I'm able to upgrade to v7.4.1 with Windows 2000 & purchase this album.

    If you want to purchase this album from iTunes then you need the newer version, not necessarily better just newer. To run the newer version of iTUnes then you have to have newer, and better, operating system (not counting Vista here).
    No getting around this requirement is you want it from iTunes. New computer not absolutely required. Yours might be able to handle Windows XP depending on what you have.

  • Yet Another Help! Connecting to Windows 2000

    Hello all, I see this is a popular topic. Got the latest 60 gig ipod and my Windows 2000 SP4 with the latest ipod updater and itunes. All of this and the program simply won't recognize my ipod. Windows sees it as a generic usb harddrive and that's it. ipod won't see it nor itunes doesn't. Thought it might be the ipod but I plugged it into my XP laptop and it works seamless. Any hope for Windows 2000 users? I already did the support page process but it didn't provide any help
    Any help would be great
    thanks
    PC   Windows 2000

    Your macs name is set in sharing preferences, and will also appear in the AD configuration tab.
    Applications\utilities\directory access
    Unlock, click the services tab.
    Check the box next to Active Directory.
    Click Configure, and enter the appropriate information.

  • Windows 2000 Authentication

    Hi. I've tested the sample JAAS authentication code below and it works. I have two questions: 1) How do I modify this to authenticate a Windows 2000 user and 2) how do I get it to run as a Java Servlet? Thanks for any suggestions.
    Using:
    java -Djava.security.auth.login.config==jaas.config JAASSampleApp testuser sasquatch
    jaas.config:
    Sample {
    PasswordLoginModule required;
    import javax.security.auth.*;
    import javax.security.auth.login.*;
    import java.security.*;
    public class JAASSampleApp extends Object {
         public static void main(String[] args)
         throws Exception {
              if (args.length != 2) {
                   System.err.println
                        ("Usage: java JAASSampleApp username password");
                   System.exit(1);
              String username = args[0];
              char[] password = args[1].toCharArray();
              LoginContext loginContext = new LoginContext(
                   "Sample", new UsernamePasswordCallbackHandler
                        (username, password));
              loginContext.login();
              // Now we're logged in, so we can get the current subject.
              Subject subject = loginContext.getSubject();
              // Display the subject
              System.out.println(subject);

    User Authentification in servlets has 2 purposes:
    1) You want to be shure that the incoming user is a "true" one (user-password verification)
    2) You want to use the user's object authorities inside of your servlet.
    So, if you want to do the user-password verification, you have to do it youself - you have to write some JAVA class with a native method (the DLL, that was menthioned in Reply from nort_de). Inside of this DLL you have to do the user-password verification, for example, throw the LogonUser function from Windows SDK. You can do it without any using of JAAS.
    If you want to use the user's object authorities inside of your JAVA code, you have to use JAAS.
    Regards,
    Oleg

  • Authenticate against windows 2000 server securtiy using Java.JNI

    How could you use Java or JNI to read the password and group membeship from the operating system for a given windows 2000 user, from a servlet/class?

    Are you looking to build some sort of single sign-on module? You wouldn't be able to get the password, but you might be able to pass a token indicating the users credentials. You'd have to delve into the MSDN resources to get that.
    Once you figure out how to what you want using COM, you can more easily integrate it into Java using the sourceforge projects Jacob or JAWIN.

  • Illustrator CS2 Doesn't Start For User on Windows 2000

    I've recently installed Adobe Illustrator CS2 on a Windows 2000 system. When I start the product when logged in as the Administrator, it starts fine. However, when I start the product logged in as a user, it goes thru the startup process, displays all of the various tool windows, and then before it gets to the first time window, it just closes. No error messages, nothing in the Windows system or application log, it just closes the same windows it just opened and then exits.
    I've tried setting the permissions on the folders listed in the Windows Rights KB entry, with no effect. I've tried installing a postscript printer, setting full rights on it, and using it as the default for the user.
    Does anyone know what file right, user priviledge, or other feature might be causing the problem? Thanks.

    I wasn't aware that it required Power User rights. This is somewhat of a high security environment, and that can be difficult.
    Do you, by chance, know what features of Power User rights are needed? I can perhaps grant those to this user, and make it work.
    Do you think it is having a problem accessing portions of the registry, or files in certain folders, or something else?
    Thanks for your help.

  • User Logon Name (pre-Windows 2000) and Domain Name Don't have the same Value

    Hi
    is it possible to have User Logon Name (pre-Windows 2000) and Domain Name with different value?
    Exemple:
    domain name domain1.com
    and User Logon Name (pre-Windows 2000) Domain2\user

    If you have trust in place, then also you can use trusted domain name to login from trustee domain. Also, UPN suffix can be added.

  • Migrating Users and Groups from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2013 Standard.

    OK...let me see if I can get this question out the way I need to....
    I inherited a Windows 2000 Server that's on it's last legs.  We have a new server, a Windows 2013 Standard machine that we just recently purchased.  I need to migrate the users and groups over to the new server, but there are two things that are
    making it difficult:
     The 2000 machine is NOT a Domain Controller
    The 2000 machine is NOT running Active Directory
    This is a file server that hangs onto another network of which I have no control of.  It has its' own IP address and there is NO WAY we can run Active Directory or make it a domain controller.
    I have close to 300 users, groups, and printers to bring over to the new server.  Rather than kill myself doing manual input, is there any other way to do this?

    Hi,
    When you import the CSV file to new server, you need to create a new user account then import the CSV.

  • Capture a user's Windows 2000 login name

    How can I capture a Windows 2000 login name from within a JSP or an applet or, better still, from some other code running on the application server from which they're downloaded?

    mgulesian, you might want to query the system properties.
    System.getProperty("user.name")Please note that this property is subject of security constraints (and there're good reasons for this, read the Java Tutorial, Trail: Essential Java Classes, Lesson: Accessing System Resources for details). For example, web applications running inside Tomcat are not allowed to query this property by default. Think twice before doing this, you have been warned!

  • Exception_access_violation error on Windows 2000 Professional

    Hello,
    I am developing a stand-alone Java application that runs without any problem on Windows 98, XP, and most 2000 and NT machines. On some Windows 2000 Professional machines, however, attempting to run the program generates the following error. Is there something about the configuration of these machines that needs to be adjusted to make the program work? The JRE (1.4) and program installation are done in exactly the same way in each case. The only variation seems to be in the version of the operating system.
    Any help much appreciated. Best reply gets 4 DD's!
    Thanks much,

    Yes, the user in question is logging on with full Administrator access. He suspects some kind of conflict with another application on the machine, but given that the two occurrences I've seen of this error have been on NT and 2K Pro machines, I'm inclined to think it's operating system related. Any more hunches?
