Windows 2003 clustering

Has anyone used the Xserver RAID as a SAN for a Windows 2003 cluster.
If so could you let me know what additonal s/w and h/w you used as we are very keen on implenting a new one.
Thanks in advance.

i need to establish if the XServe RAID supports Microsofts "mpio" in Win2003 server.
Has anyone got any info regarding this?
If it does then there shouldn't be any problems building a win2k3 cluster with XServe RAID.

    Hi,
Do I need Windows Clustering Software installed before I go for RAC clusterware installation? No, you dont need any Windows clustering software for implement Oracle RAC.
If not, how do I setup shared drive so that both systems can see and access OCR and voting disks? You need install the clusterware pre-requisites before install the Oracle Clusterware, you must see the next documentation. There explain how configure the shared disk and other pre-requisites for Clusterware, for example raw devices and other settings.

  • SAP Server upgrade from Windows 2003 and 2008 R2 with Oracle Database

    Hi,
We need to upgrade upgrade our Windows servers that are running our SAP systems from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2.  We are using Microsoft Clustering for HA so an inplace upgrade seems not possible.
Someone has suggested to us that we will need to export our database and reimport it to achieve this upgrade however but I cannot understand why this would be necessary (we are not changing the underlying filesystem!).
Could someone please confirm whether a database export and import is required for this OS upgrade scenario?  I have done a bit of research but nothing has jumped out and now I need an answer to this quickly.
    We are running
    - ERP 6.0 NW 7.01 (soon to be 7.02 with ABAP stack only)
    - XI(PI) Java & ABAP
    - SRM (Java & ABAP)
    - Portal (Java only)
    - PLM (Java & ABAP)
    - BW (BI 7.0) (Java and ABAP)
    Thank You
    Felicity

    Hello,
You need to go for 'Homogeneous System Copy' to achieve this, but since almost all the systems in your landscape include the Java Stack as well - so the system copy with Export/Import is to be carried out.
Even if you are not going for file system change, but it is a Windows environment and you can't put SAP up on the target Windows (windows 2008 R2) just by copying the contents and file system from source to target. You need SAPinst to create the registry and all. - On top of that you have Java stacks involved, so for java stack you can't carry out just backup/restore method to put SAP up there on target - so you need Export/import because for java stack some OS level dump is to be collected during system copy from source and it needs to be imported on target OS.
Are you clear on this one ?
Read system copy guide once and Search in OSS for the Notes to check how to upgrade from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2.
    Thanks

  • Oracle 10gR2 (10.2.0.1) on Windows 2003 Server

I have installed the above version on Windows 2003 Server(x64). Now we are planning on clustering the same for production environment. I would like to know the following.
    1. Can std edition can be installed on this cluster?
    2. If so, what are the components that has to be installed?
    3. If only EE will work for clustering, we are not going to do RAC? what is the other source?
Any information/links for the above information is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Dear,
You can go for OracleFS(failsafe). It is a Acive Passive clustering method unlike RAC.

  • Replacement of SAN with windows 2003 on 10g

    Thank you for your update.
Oracle 10g RAC is installed on two instance, data files are on the SAN storage.
Now we want to replace SAN storage media.
Is it possible to keep Cluster ready service softeare and database software and we will change SAN by cloning. ??

  • Windows 2003 File Share 4 node Cluster: Does Cluster Resources need to be brought offline prior removing / unmapping any LUN's from SAN end?

    Hello All,
Recently, on a 4 node Windows 2003 File Share Cluster, we encountered a problem where when trying to remove few shares (that were no longer in use) directly from SAN end crashed the entire Cluster (i.e., other shares also lost their SAN connectivity). I
suppose the Cluster resources need to be brought offline prior removing it from SAN but I've been advised that these shares were not the root and instead a 'mount point' created within the share; and hence there is no need of bringing down any Cluster resources
    offline.
Please can someone comment on the above and provide me detailed steps as to how we go about reclaiming SAN space from specific shares on a W2003 Cluster?
p.s., let me know if you need any additional information.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Alex,
The problem started when SAN Support reclaimed few storage LUNs by unmapping them from our clustered file servers.  When they reclaimed the unused LUNs, other SAN drives which were there also disappeared causing the unavailability of file shares.
Internet access is not enabled on these servers. Servers in question are running 64-bit Windows Server 2003 Sp2. This is a four node file share cluster. When the unsued LUN's were pulled, the entire Cluster lost its SAN connectivity. Windows cluster service
was not starting on any of  the cluster nodes. To resolve the problem all the four cluster nodes were rebooted after which cluster service started on all the cluster nodes and resources came online.
Some of the events at the time of problem occurrence were,

  • Physical to Virtual Migration Approach for Exchange CCR 2007 on Windows 2003 Ent Edition

    Hi Team,
I am running Two exchange 2007 CCR in my environment on Physical node on windows 2003 ENT edition. MY Hardware is end of life and we are planning to migrate/Converting them into virtual environmnet running Vsphere 5.1.
can any one let me know the best approach to virtualize exchange CCR .
    Exchange CCR details are :-
    Windows 2003 Ent edition.
    Excahnge 2007.
Quorum is configuraed on shared folder.
Exchange Primary replicating Data on Exchange Secondry ..Both Primary and Secondry are having Raid 10 Local Disks.

    Hi Ravi,
you can take a couple of approaches here. First off, I want to make sure you are not wanting to do a P2V conversion, that is taking the OS image that is running on the physical host and, using VMware Converter, create a virtual machine from it. You could do it that way but, depending on how much mail data is there it could take a long time and it's not the preferred approach for Exchange.
I'm going to make a couple of assumptions here:
I'm assuming upgrading to Exchange 2010 is out of the question (if it is not just do that and move mailboxes )
I'm assuming that there is plenty of storage in the vSphere environment to satisfy the requirements of Exchange. Obviously you would have to provide enough storage for all mail data x 2 if you want to continue with CCR.
Your message says "local disks", so I'm guessing the RAID 10 you mention is not available for use for these virtual machines and that you will provide some type of shared storage.
So, if you have enough compute within a vSphere cluster and enough storage (capacity and IO) to satisfy CCR I see two options:
    Leapfrog approach
    1. Shutdown passive
    2. Evict passive from CCR cluster
    3. Create new VM, Clustering services, Exchange/add as passive to the cluster (you could run setup in recovery mode /m:recoverserver, but I don't see why you would want to in a cluster)
    4. Seed databases
    5. Failover
    6. Repeat for other physical
    New Cluster
    1. Create two new VMs
    2. Create new CCR Cluster
    3. Install Exchange active/passive
    4. Move mailboxes
    5. Decomm physicals
Obviously these are very high level but the approaches are straight forward. If this is your only set of Exchange servers in the environment you will have to account for any public folders/system folders, etc. Take some time and check out compute usage in the current environment so you are sure you have plenty of compute in the vSphere environment, especially if you are moving into a shared environment.

  • Windows 2003 standart or enterprise edition?

    Hi experts,
We want to use AII addon on Netweaver 7.0 and PI 7.0 on windows 2003 64 bit. Are there any differences between standart edition and enterprise edition? I know cpu and memory limitations. Is it recommended that installing production SAP system on windows standart edition?

    Hi Hande,
Differences Between Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition.
The Standard Edition of Windows Server 2003 supports up to 4 GB of RAM and four-way SMP.
The Enterprise Edition of Windows Server 2003 supports eight processors and 32 GB of RAM, also eight-node clustering including SAN and geographically dispersed clustering.
Other features that distinguish the Enterprise Edition from the Standard Edition: Support for Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS), which enables the integration of multiple directories, databases, and files with Active Directory. Hot Add Memory, so that you can add memory to supported hardware systems without downtime or reboot. Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM), which supports the allocation of CPU and memory resources on a per-application basis.
    Cheers

  • Windows 2003 Palo (VIC) Drivers

Anyone know if there is a Windows 2003 VIC driver? I fond the Windows 2008 x64 one on the UCS Downloads page.

While the official answer may be that it is not supported, I have to say that it is a BAD answer.  Our local Cisco SE said it was due to Microsoft discontinuing new certifications for 2003.  So what?  W2K3 is a huge part of my environment.  While not having the drivers won't stop our implementation of UCS, it is causing us to think about not moving some systems to UCS.  We do a lot of W2K3 clustering so having Palo drivers would be very beneficial.  Now, we may have to lose some redundancy so we can keep our heartbeat and servers traffic separate.
A good answer to the original question would be, "There are currently no Palo drivers for W2K3, but we are working on them."

  • Step by Step change of IP's in Two node Cluster WIndows 2003 server

    Hi,
I am looking for step by step information for changing IP's in Two Node windows 2003 cluster setup. Information on KB on technet as well on windows site, not covering step by step details. If anyone had experience of change IP's in WIndows 2003 cluster environment,
Please share, it will be great help.
    Regards,
    Avnish

If you have done the setup correctly and have two separate networks, changing IPs is pretty straightforward.
Make sure both networks can carry cluster communications.
Change the NICs on ONE network (usually the private network) only.
Validate the nodes can communicate over that network.
Change the NICs on the PUBLIC network.
Change the clustered IP addresses. Note that some clustered services may require a restart to accept the new IP address.

  • RDP Hotfix for Windows 2003 SP2

What is the latest RDP hotfix for Windows 2003 SP2, we are having issues when we want the server to reboot and it just hangs.  I remember that there was an hotfix for this issue.  Our workaround is to use a remote shutdown command.
I believe they was an post-SP2 that kinda of helped in most cases.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Based on my search, the following articles will give you a hand:

  • Installation problem on Windows 2003

    Hi All,
I have installed the saprfc extension on my laptop for testing purposes.
Definitions of my laptop: Windows XP, IIS 6, PHP 4.4.2, SAP GUI 640
Everything works fine and I can access the SAP through the web server on my laptop without any problem.
Now, after finishing my tests I installed my web application on a real production server with the following definitions: Windows 2003 server, IIS 6, PHP 4.4.2
As you can see – the two differences are the operating system and the fact that I do not have a complete SAP GUI installation on the server – I only located the librfc32.dll under the windows library.
My problem is that I get the message that the php_saprfc.dll extension cannot be loaded (I edited the php.ini).
Doe anyone have any idea why?
    Thanks,
    Roy

    Hi,
I have an installation with my laptop WIN2003 server with apache web server instead of IIS, without problems.
Are you sure that in your php.ini is all OK?
Have you tried to copy the WIN2003 php.ini on your laptop and try to load saprfc.dll?

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.
