Windows 2003 functional level and Windows 2012 additional DC installation

I was trying to add a windows 2012 Domain controller('D') to my windows 2003 functional level domain. My domain FSMO roles are running in
two DC's which is on windows 2003 functional level. (schema master, domain naming master and the PDC
running on
server 'A' and RIP pool manager and the infrastructure master running on server B. DC's A and B is running in site London and the windows 2012 DC I am planning to install is in
US. I have a
vpn tunnel between london and the US office.
In US office one of the branch
office i have a DC 'C' which is already replicating to DC 'A' in
london. The DC 'D' i am planning to install is for my disaster recovery office in the US. (DR for the US office)
While adding the 2012 server as an additional domain controller, I am getting the below error message,
"Error determining whether the target environment requires adprep: Validation error: Unable to check the domain upgrade status for
server (server name). Exception: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation \n

Find below the print screen. Please somebody help.

Hi,
This error my be caused by no active Schema Master in your domain. Please check the active schema owner.

  • Restore AD-object on Windows 2008R2 DC with a Windows 2003 functional Level

    Hi,
    Anyone has experience with this?
We need to know how to restore a single AD-object (eg. a user-object) on a Windows 2003 Functional Level, hosted on Windows 2008 R2
    What is the best practice?
    Thnx.

    Peter,
Use LDP tool to restore deleted objects in AD.

  • What is the effect if I Raise my domain functional level to Windows Server 2012 R2 ?

    Hi,
    my current servers:
Domain Controllers= Windows Server 2012 R2 (current domain functional level is windows 2008 R2)
    Mail servers= Exchange 2010 SP3 on Windows 2008 R2
    Lync= Lync 2010 on Windows server 2008 R2
What is the effect if I Raise my domain functional level to Windows Server 2012 R2 ?
I am very worried about Exchange & Lync if we do this action
    please advice

Do not raise the forest functional level higher if you have or will have any domain controllers running
an earlier version of Windows Server , which is (windows Nt4.0,  Window 2000 or windows 2003)
but as a matter of fact I dont see any of those in your network so you can easily upgrade the funtional level without any issues

  • MDT 2012 to Migrate from Windows 2003 32 Bit to Windows 2012 R2 64 Bit

I have used MDT for so long however only for client OS upgrade - XP to Windows 7/8.
We wish to use MDT to migrate from Windows 2003 32 Bit to Windows 2012 R2 64 Bit. All servers are virtual on HyperV or VMWare - plan is to use USMT hardlink Migration.
Is this supported? Has anyone used this for server migration?
Regards, Vik Singh "If this thread answered your question, please click on "Mark as Answer"

    Thanks Keith for your reply.
Even is USMT does not work, we are ok. SMIGdeploy will be helpful.
Basically, want MDT to run some scripts on the Windows 2003 server, post which install Windows 2012 and join it to the existing domain with the same computer name.
Then hydration kit to help with the installation of features etc. Also, we would like to take a complete backup to a WIM before migrating.
I am sure this is workable.

  • Active Directory Volume Activation Services Forest Prep on 2003 Functional Level?

    Hello,
Please can anyone tell me if I can perform the steps outlined below when I have a mix of 2003 R2 and 2008 R2 domain controllers currently running on 2003 Functional Level.
My aim is to get AD Volume Activation Services running without needing to install a 2012 R2 DC and upgrade all my 2003 R2 DCs (which I have no control of), though I accept the schema update is a requirement for the AD Volume Activation Services aspect, where
    as KMS will still work?
    (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/99e94b1c-fe8a-4224-954b-2126994c9d0f/how-do-i-activate-kms-on-2012-in-a-2008-r2-domain?forum=winserver8setup)
    Steps to make this work:
Copy ALL files from <win2012 DVD>\support\adprep folder to a folder on server holding FSMO role for Forest/Domain
    Run "adprep.exe /forestPrep"
    Run "adprep.exe /domainPrep /forceReplicate"
Join 2012 server that VAS will be installed on to domain
Follow instructions, as needed, in VAS 2012 test lab guide here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831794.aspx
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi,
As far as I know this role should be installed on Windows 2012, so without Windows 2012, we cannot do this.
AD DS must be at the schema level of Windows Server 2012 or newer to store activation objects. Domain controllers running earlier versions of Windows Server can activate clients after their schemas have been updated using the Windows Server 2012 version
    of Adprep.exe.

  • Migrating windows 2003 standard edition  to windows 2008 enterprise edition

    Hi
We are using ECC 5.0 and our PRD system is running on windows 2003 standard edition, and recently we have got some physical memory problem.as windows 2003 standard edition supports only 4 GB of RAM. and we want to extend our RAM for that we are planning to upgrade os to windows 2008 enterprise edition,is that possible.and after upgrading OS what are the activities that need to be performed for SAP to run succesfully, kindly suggest.
    Regards
    Pranav

    Hi Markus
I read note SAP Note 690432 - Windows 2003 Support in it regarding upgradation of os  windows 2003 standard edition to windows 2003 enterprise edition.
    Upgrade of Your Operating System
If you upgrade an existing SAP system to Windows Server 2003 perform the
    following actions:
    o Install the latest R3DLLINS
You find the latest dynamic link libraries R3DLLINS for Windows
Server 2003 on the EXT-Kernel CD in the NTPATCH directory.
o Replace the R/3 kernel with the EXT-Kernel.
If you do not replace it you will get error "SICK" after the first
    logon attempt after the start.
In this case, download the disp+work package(s) from the SAP
Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/patches and unpack the
    patch(es) to directory usr\sap\exe:
    dw*_<patch-level>
Use at least patch level 186.
o Use the latest saposcol version.
This version supports the changed performance counter of Windows
Server 2003 to determine values for ST06 and RZ20.
You can find the latest version in file saposcol_<Patch Level>.CAR.
    in the SAP Service Marketplace.
o SAP DB only: See SAP Note 315237.o Compatibility of the Hardware with Windows Server 2003
You can perform the upgrade to Windows Server 2003 only if the
hardware has been explicitly released for this purpose. To check,
    do one of the following:
    - If the Windows Server 2003 CD is available, check compatibility
with WINNT32.EXE in the \I386 directory. The exact statement
is: <DRIVE:>\I386\WINNT32 /CHECKUPGRADEONLY. The result is
stored as text file WINNT32.LOC in the present Windows
    directory (e.g. C:\WINNT).
    - The hardware has successfully passed SAP hardware certification
    (http://www.addon.de).
    - The hardware is contained in the Microsoft Hardware
    Compatibility List (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl).
    - The hardware has been released for Windows Server 2003 by the
manufacturer. This information is published on the
    corresponding website.
    o Kerberos Single Sign-On
When the SAP system is installed on Windows Server 2003 you can
setup the Kerberos Single Sign-On. If you use the kerberos protocol
the information exchanged between the SAP frontend and the
application server for authentication is encrypted.
The procedure for setting up Single Sign-On is described in all
recent installation guides which you can download from the SAP
    Service Marketplace at: service.sap.com/instguides.
o SAP domain under Windows Server 2003
Follow the instructions of the Windows documentation for the
migration of a Windows NT 4 domain to Windows 2003. For the SAP
environment some additional points need to be observed.
For Windows NT 4 there are two models for the SAP system domain:
    - Single domain
All users and the SAP system build one single domain. This
domain can be migrated to Windows Server 2003 and exist there
    as single domain.
    - Additional domain
There is one domain for the users and a second domain for the
SAP system(s). For a migration to Windows Server 2003 the SAP
system domain has to be created as child domain under the user
domain. A "Top-down" procedure is to be used. The higher domain
(the user domain) must be migrated prior to the SAP child
domain. If the user and SAP domain is part of a larger domain
structure the complete domain structure for Windows Server 2003
needs to be planned in a preparing phase. Usually, the
structure created under Windows NT 4 has to be re-arranged and
    consolidated.
The name space of the root domain and all sub-ordinated domains
has to be defined and the distribution of the DNS services
    needs to be determined.
    Note the following:
The SAP domain has to be created as child domain.
The SAP domain must not be converted into an organizational
unit (OU). OUs are not supported by R3SETUP and R3up.
in it nowhere it is mentioned about system copy so plz suggest.

How to distribute my windows phone 8 app and windows store app without publishing in the store
any business license or enterprise license needed..
I am a windows developer talking behalf of my company i.e  wipro
I have a question about the enterprise license   and  we are building an app for the limited users i.e our company employees and users and we do not want to publish in the store
    How to release the app?
    what are licenses etc needed?

    Hi,
for developers distributing apps without Publishing in the Store, the sideloding Enterprise key license through volume licensing is required.
Starting May 1, 2014, customers who want to enable sideloading will be able to purchase an Enterprise Sideloading key for $100 through the Open License program.
An unlimited number of devices can be enabled for sideloading using this key.

  • Logon failure after upgrade Windows 2003 domain functional level and schema

    Before upgrade:
Windows 2003 Std server: Domain functional level 2000, Schema verion 30
Crystal Report XI R2: Authentication: Windows AD
    Logon OK.
    After Upgrade:
Windows 2003 Std + Windows 2008: Domain functional level 2003, Schema verion 44
Crystal Report XI R2: Authentication: Windows AD
Logon Error: An error has occurred: java.lan.NullPointerException
Is it a Tomcat problem?  OR Java runtime problem?  OR XI R2 problem?
Anyone can help to fix it!?  Thanks!!

OK, I try again in the testing lab and simplify the combination.  We only consider Windows 2003 ONLY.
    Before AD upgrade:
AD/Domain Controller: Windows 2003 Std server: Domain functional level 2000, Schema verion 30
Crystal Report XI R2: run on Windows 2003 memeber server
Operating OS: Windows XP/Vista/7: Authentication: Windows AD
    Logon OK.
    Upgrade cmbination 1
    Step 1:
Upgrade Domain controller: Windows 2003 to Windows 2003 R2 (Domain functional level 2000, Schema verion 31 )
Crystal Report XI R2: run on Windows 2003 memeber server
Operating OS: Windows XP/Vista/7: Authentication: Windows AD
    Logon OK.
    Step 2:
Upgrade Domain Functional Level: Windows 2003 R2 (Domain functional level 2003, Schema verion 31)
Crystal Report XI R2: run on Windows 2003 memeber server
Operating OS: Windows XP/Vista/7: Authentication: Windows AD
    Logon Fail
Logon Error: An error has occurred: java.lan.NullPointerException
    Upgrade combination 2
Direct upgrade Domain Functional Level: Windows 2003 (Domain functional level 2003, Schema verion 30)
Crystal Report XI R2: run on Windows 2003 memeber server
Operating OS: Windows XP/Vista/7: Authentication: Windows AD
    Logon Fail
Logon Error: An error has occurred: java.lan.NullPointerException
In this testing, we can conclude that the Domain Functional Level upgrade from 2000 to 2003. The MI logon will fail.
Q1. Crystal Report XI R2 cannot run on Windows 2003 server (Domain Functional Level: 2003)?
Q2. If Crystal Report XI R2 can run on Domain Functional Leve: 2003, how to fix our problem?
Do you have any idea to help us?  Thanks!

  • Windows 2003 functionla level

    HI,
We are using windows 2003 R2 on my network as AD, We are wanting to implement ms Exchange 2013 for that we required to raise the current functional level from native 2000 to 2003. When I try to do that it gets me error AD is busy. and then my DHCP server
which is running MS 2008 Standard automatically gets UN-authorized. Also is their any risk by raising the DFL. and tell me why this my DHCP goes UN-authorized.
    Regards,
    Tushar

In addition to Cristoffer's suggestion, which I agree with, post any event log errors, the number of DCs you have, and an ipconfig /all from each one.
Were there any 2000 DCs that were forcibly removed and not properly demoted? You can check with ntdsutil. Run the procedure to see there are any, as well as check the other locations as noted in the blog below:
Complete Step by Step Guideline to Remove an Orphaned Domain controller or a DC that's been demoted using the /forceremoval switch. This includes seizing FSMOs, running a metadata cleanup, cleanup DNS (Nameservertab), AD Sites (old DC references), transfer
or fix time settings, WINS settings, etc.
    http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/archive/2010/10/05/complete-step-by-step-to-remove-an-orphaned-domain-controller.aspx
Also, check in ADSI Edit, connect to the Domain NC (Default Name Context), then expand and drill down to:
    1.Domain.com (your domain name)
    2.System
    3.File Replication Service
4.Click on Domain System Volume (SYSVOL)
Do you see the old DC in there? If so, carefully just delete that object, and nothing else.
You may also need to look at resetting the default permissions on the domain head. I've seen this to be an issue in the past. ADUC, properties of domain, Security tab, Advanced.

  • Windows 8.1 cannot change password in Windows 2003 domain level domain

On several installations of windows 8.1 enterprise, users cannot change passwords by using <ctrl> + <al> + <del> keys and choosing change password.
The error is: "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship"
Fresh Windows 8.1 enterprise installs with no patches to fully patched windows 8.1 enterprise workstations have the problem.  Backed out patches one by one and tested password change without success.  Tried various dell laptops, tablets, and workstations
but same issue.  Tried VMware guest workstation with windows 8.1 enterprise.  The domain functional level is 2003 with a mixture of Windows 2008 R2 DC's and Windows 2003 DC's.
The add/remove from domain did not help.  What troubleshooting steps should I take from this point?  Is this related to secure channel failures?  Note: did not find event log entries for the failures in the DC's nor on the workstation.
Perhaps I did not search  for the proper entry on the DC's.

    Hi,
Please find below several possible cause of error “The security database on the server does
not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship”
Secure channel is broken (Can fix by rejoin problematic client to domain)
AD replication issue. The computer account exists on one domain controller but not others.
    Duplicated SPN (seems not possible)
So, to narrow down the issue, you need to make sure the AD replication is working fine. Please run command
repadmin /showrepl * on a DC, then post the result here.
    After that, please run
set l on a problematic client, then post the result here.
Moreover, please check on system event log and check if there have any related error of the issue.
    Thanks.

  • Issues with creating PDF's (Acrobat 8.1.6. and 9.1.3) in Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) and Windows XP (64bit)

We have a report package that generates customised reports
We generate the PDF's by simply "printing" to the Adobe PDF printer
In Windows XP Pro (32 Bit) the report creates the PDF perfectly
In Windows Server 2003 (32 Bit) or Windows Xp Pro (64 Bit) the PDF is created 90% perfect but some of text has slipped on the page.
Whilst we are looking into the report writer (Dev Express) I would like to rule out any Acrobat issues.
    With thanks
    Mark

I think it will work fine if you use the "Enterprise" authentication option.  It may have dependencies on 32 bit components.  So, that's why we must run IIS in 32 bit mode even though it's on a 64 bit OS.  That means CR supports 64 bit OS systems only if you bring down other components that CR uses to 32 bit levels.  I'm not sure if that is considered "full support".
We are trying to use the LDAP authentication option, but that tab is disabled.  Other tabs such as Active Directory and WinNT are disabled as well.  There maybe another component that we must bring down to 32 bit processing.
Is there a way to enable the LDAP authentication configuration tab?
    thanks
