Windows 2003 Standard Ed R2

Has anyone noticed that in 2003 Server R2 Microsoft has removed the DHCP Option 150 for TFTP server source? I was not able to configure this option out of the box in R2, but have been able to in previous versions of server 03 as well as 00. Let me know if you have seen this or have found a fix.
Thanks,
Mike

As far as I know, option 150 has never been configured out of the box for a new scope. Take a look at the following link regarding adding option 150.

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

  • Windows 2003 Standard-Network Password-never had to enter before

I am on a server at my office.  My individual workstation is Win 7.  The server is Windows 2003 Standard.  Yesterday, I lost connectivity to the net work drives, and my computer is asking for a username and password to get into the server.
I did not do anything with intention....make changes.or install any new software.  My IT person does not know how to resolve this problem and can not access the server.
Does anyone here have suggestions how to fix this?
    AnnetteG

The server may need to be rebuilt. You can try an in-place upgrade. Integrate service pack, then do the in-place upgrade.

  • Migrating windows 2003 standard edition  to windows 2008 enterprise edition

    Hi
We are using ECC 5.0 and our PRD system is running on windows 2003 standard edition, and recently we have got some physical memory problem.as windows 2003 standard edition supports only 4 GB of RAM. and we want to extend our RAM for that we are planning to upgrade os to windows 2008 enterprise edition,is that possible.and after upgrading OS what are the activities that need to be performed for SAP to run succesfully, kindly suggest.
    Regards
    Pranav

    Hi Markus
I read note SAP Note 690432 - Windows 2003 Support in it regarding upgradation of os  windows 2003 standard edition to windows 2003 enterprise edition.
    Upgrade of Your Operating System
If you upgrade an existing SAP system to Windows Server 2003 perform the
    following actions:
    o Install the latest R3DLLINS
You find the latest dynamic link libraries R3DLLINS for Windows
Server 2003 on the EXT-Kernel CD in the NTPATCH directory.
o Replace the R/3 kernel with the EXT-Kernel.
If you do not replace it you will get error "SICK" after the first
    logon attempt after the start.
In this case, download the disp+work package(s) from the SAP
Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/patches and unpack the
    patch(es) to directory usr\sap\exe:
    dw*_<patch-level>
Use at least patch level 186.
o Use the latest saposcol version.
This version supports the changed performance counter of Windows
Server 2003 to determine values for ST06 and RZ20.
You can find the latest version in file saposcol_<Patch Level>.CAR.
    in the SAP Service Marketplace.
o SAP DB only: See SAP Note 315237.o Compatibility of the Hardware with Windows Server 2003
You can perform the upgrade to Windows Server 2003 only if the
hardware has been explicitly released for this purpose. To check,
    do one of the following:
    - If the Windows Server 2003 CD is available, check compatibility
with WINNT32.EXE in the \I386 directory. The exact statement
is: <DRIVE:>\I386\WINNT32 /CHECKUPGRADEONLY. The result is
stored as text file WINNT32.LOC in the present Windows
    directory (e.g. C:\WINNT).
    - The hardware has successfully passed SAP hardware certification
    (http://www.addon.de).
    - The hardware is contained in the Microsoft Hardware
    Compatibility List (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl).
    - The hardware has been released for Windows Server 2003 by the
manufacturer. This information is published on the
    corresponding website.
    o Kerberos Single Sign-On
When the SAP system is installed on Windows Server 2003 you can
setup the Kerberos Single Sign-On. If you use the kerberos protocol
the information exchanged between the SAP frontend and the
application server for authentication is encrypted.
The procedure for setting up Single Sign-On is described in all
recent installation guides which you can download from the SAP
    Service Marketplace at: service.sap.com/instguides.
o SAP domain under Windows Server 2003
Follow the instructions of the Windows documentation for the
migration of a Windows NT 4 domain to Windows 2003. For the SAP
environment some additional points need to be observed.
For Windows NT 4 there are two models for the SAP system domain:
    - Single domain
All users and the SAP system build one single domain. This
domain can be migrated to Windows Server 2003 and exist there
    as single domain.
    - Additional domain
There is one domain for the users and a second domain for the
SAP system(s). For a migration to Windows Server 2003 the SAP
system domain has to be created as child domain under the user
domain. A "Top-down" procedure is to be used. The higher domain
(the user domain) must be migrated prior to the SAP child
domain. If the user and SAP domain is part of a larger domain
structure the complete domain structure for Windows Server 2003
needs to be planned in a preparing phase. Usually, the
structure created under Windows NT 4 has to be re-arranged and
    consolidated.
The name space of the root domain and all sub-ordinated domains
has to be defined and the distribution of the DNS services
    needs to be determined.
    Note the following:
The SAP domain has to be created as child domain.
The SAP domain must not be converted into an organizational
unit (OU). OUs are not supported by R3SETUP and R3up.
in it nowhere it is mentioned about system copy so plz suggest.

  • Problem on installation of windows 2003 Standard Ed. 64 bit with 10 GB RAM

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the Oracle 10G R2 on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition 64 bit on HP machine 64 bit.
My problem is that the Oracle is seeing just 4GB of RAM.
I found some Oracle notes that explain this problem for machine and OS with 32 bit.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Sergio

    Are you installing Oracle 32-bit?
(In that case, the process virtual memory addressing is limited to 2^32 = 4GB. Note also it is virtual, not physical memory)
64-bit editions (e.g. for X64) are available from:

Highlight each of these disks one at a time and click Edit to open the Specify Disk Configuration page where you define the details for the selected disk"

You have a more fundamental problem, Firewire disks will not work for RAC on Windows. The storage needs to be shared, Firewire disks can't be shared on Windows. On Linux, Oracle took the open source firewire driver and modified it to allow more than one host to connect. On Windows the driver is closed source so they can't do that.
I presume you are wanting to try-out RAC on Windows, If so another solution may be to download one of the many iSCSI Servers that are available. Microsoft ship an iSCSI Initiator for Windows, this allows you to share a 'block device' which is what RAC needs - then you can choose your RAC Database storage method of choice, ASM, OCFS, RAW. I prefer ASM

    > We want to upgrade our windows version to Enterprise 2008 64 Bit.

There are ways of doing in-place upgrades (see Note 1494740 - SAP system migration from Windows 2003 to 2008 (R2) 64-bit) but since the hardware drivers changed from 2003 to 2008 you may have a hard time getting the system back up after you do an in-place upgrade.
I would do a homogeneous system copy, that's the safest way.

  • BPC for NetWeaver OS requirement - Windows 2003 Standard vs. Enterprise

    Hello BPC Expert,
I have a question in regard to the Windows Server 2003 edition for SAP BPC 7.0 for NetWeaver. On the Installation Guide of BPC NetWeaver SP03, the prerequisite for the Operating System for .NET Server component is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
My question: will Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition work for .NET component? We have a budget concern as the Enterprise Edition will cost couple more thousands than standard.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
Yes you can use the Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (32-bit and 64-bit). Shouldnt be a problem.
    Thanks.

  • Memory system cache on windows server 2003 standard 64-bit is too hign

    Hi,
I have an issue with one of the server - OS is windows 2003 standard 64 bit. Total memory installed on the server is 16GB. When I go to task manager>performance tab, Total physical memory is 16 GB, available memory is around 500 MB almost all the time,
System cache is greater than 13.5GB. When I take a look at all the processes that are running, and if I sum those memory usage it will be around 2 GB. So all the memory is consumed by system cache. Checked the perfmon > memory> system cache resident
bytes and it is showing greater than 13.5 GB. I have gone through some articles that tells me to use RAMMAP to find which is using more system cache. But RAMMAP is not designed to run with windows 2003 version. Please can you help with a way/tool to find what
is using system cache in windows 2003 server
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    RJ

It is supposed to do this. Windows can be very aggressive in caching data and code. This data is released as soon as the system needs memory for something else, but when it is unused, the system uses it to cache all sorts of stuff. It utilizes the memory
which would otherwise be unused. Leaving it unused would basically be a waste.
So in other words, nothing is wrong. It is windows which decides to try and be more efficient. As soon as a request for more memory comes in, it just drops whatever is needed from the cache immediately.
This is one of the reasons that in later versions, the memory is reported differently in task manager, because people kept trying to stop the system from caching because they wanted to see more 'free' memory.

  • Mac OS X help with share access on a windows 2003 server

    Hello everyone
I am not too familiar with Mac OS X (Darwin) and so on and need a little help.
We recently got a new windows 2003 standard server and I want to move my files to there so they get backed up and so on. I am able to access shares on the pc's on our network but when I try to access the server from finder i just get a box pop up saysing do you want to fix or delete the alias.
When I try to access it via a terminal, because I am a bit more ok with the cmd line thanks to my linux capabilities, I get the following error:
mount_smbfs: tree connect phase failed: syserr = Permission denied
    when i try:
    mount_smbfs //dan:[email protected]/General\ Files /BB-SERVER/General\ Files
Is there anybody that has experienced this before and that can help me resolve this.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Kobus Bensch,
I'm sorry I am not able to help with your questions about sharing from your Mac to the server but wanted to suggest that you post back the exact Mac OS version you are using. Your specs below your post suggest 10.0.x which was barely a beta version of Mac OS X. This will surely help those who are seeing your topic and trying to help.
To find the version you can simply click on the blue Apple in your top menu bar and select About This Mac.

  • Windows 2003 Memory Dump - Bug check Analysis attached

    Hi all
I recently have had a Windows 2003 Standard with SP2 server crash with a memory dump
I have used WinDBG to read the file and output below
can anyone shed any light on the faults, or point me in the right direction?
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis
    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (8e)
This is a very common bugcheck.  Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem.  Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003.  This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG.  This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG.  This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 8081c630, The address that the exception occurred at

    Hi,
    For Bug Check 0x8E, it
indicates that a kernel-mode application generated an exception that the error handler did not catch. For more details, please refer to following article and check if can help you.
    Bug Check 0x8E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Did you remember that which operation (or any change) you do before this issue occurred? Or just the server
    crashed suddenly?
Please check if all necessary updates were installed and drivers were updated.

  • PGA memory problem - Oracle 10.2.0.4 on windows 2003

    Hi,
I have recently started work at a new company and we are running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4, Enterprise Edition) on Windows 2003 (Standard Edition). The server has 4Gb of RAM (and we have modified boot.ini to inclue the /3Gb switch).
RE: SGA/PGA, we have the following Oracle parameters set:
    sga_target 1G
    pga_aggregate_target 194M
The employees tell me that they frequently "have to reboot the database" because of ORA-4030 and ORA-4031 problems. Looking at taskmgr on the server, Oracle is using "too much" memory (~3Gb). New sessions cannot connect etc. and they restart the database. Being a DBA (experience in UNIX, not Windows) I'm not so keen on this "solution" and am trying to find out what's happening.
When this problem occurred yesterday, before allowing the reboot, I bought myself some time to have a little dig around in the database. In v$sesstat I saw one process that had a value of over 1GB for "session pga memory". Memory usage on the server for oracle.exe was (as predicted) ~1GB over the "expected" 1.2Gb value (of SGA+PGA agg target). So, part 1 of my question is:
    - Is this "normal" behaviour for Oracle to allow a process to go so wild on the PGA?
(I understood that Oracle would attempt to maintain total PGA memory close to the value of PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET. I believe I read in the documentation that it could allow PGA memory to increase "up to 20% over this value" but please don't quote me on that, I can't find it again..)
Part 2 to this problem is that sessions "collect" in the database and do not release their PGA memory, leading to the slow build up of memory until the errors are encountered. I believe Dead Connection Detection (DCD) not to be working here (sql_net.expire_time=1 is set on the server but appears to do nothing). I've started reading docs/notes on this and it seems that DCD is not reliable on Windows. Metalink Doc 151972.1 suggests testing and adjusting some underlying TCP/IP serttings in the O/S kernel (I'm not even sure how to do this in Windows yet, let alone if it's something I want to get involved with!). So:
    - I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for this (killing off dead connections, getting DCD working in Windows 2003 etc.)?  Any experiences, tips welcome here!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ados

  • Hardware migration - Windows 2003 DB2

    Hello Experts,
We are planning a hardware migration from our present setup consisting of Windows 2003 Standard with DB2 to Windows 2003 Enterprise with DB2.
I would like your suggestions on the following points:
1] Which method of migration should be used
        - system copy (migration creating export files)
        - database backup and restore
2] What all optimization steps can be followed before and after the migration
    Waiting for your valuable suggestions.
    Thank you & Kind regards

    Hello
you speak about a simple homogeneous system copy (because you do not change the dabase type - DB2 to Oracle for exemple - or the OS - Windows to Unix)
To ways to perform that :
    - if you do not change the server, may be a simple upgrade of the OS is sufficent
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc737287.aspx
    - if you change the server, you can perform the upgrade by :
    1. making a full offline backup of the source system (database)
    2. performing the sapinst (homogeneous copy / backup/restore)
The sapinst will help you (asking you to restore the data)
    The steps are :
    installing the Oracle binaries
    installing SAP with sapinst (binaries)
restoring DB2 database (with the offline backup)
    restarting DB2 (I don't know DB2 specific steps)
    ending installation
    Let see the documentation

Note 389530 (for other releases search for the relevant note)
    Hope this will help you
