Windows 2003 standart or enterprise edition?
Hi experts,
We want to use AII addon on Netweaver 7.0 and PI 7.0 on windows 2003 64 bit. Are there any differences between standart edition and enterprise edition? I know cpu and memory limitations. Is it recommended that installing production SAP system on windows standart edition?
Hi Hande,
Differences Between Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition.
The Standard Edition of Windows Server 2003 supports up to 4 GB of RAM and four-way SMP.
The Enterprise Edition of Windows Server 2003 supports eight processors and 32 GB of RAM, also eight-node clustering including SAN and geographically dispersed clustering.
Other features that distinguish the Enterprise Edition from the Standard Edition: Support for Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS), which enables the integration of multiple directories, databases, and files with Active Directory. Hot Add Memory, so that you can add memory to supported hardware systems without downtime or reboot. Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM), which supports the allocation of CPU and memory resources on a per-application basis.

To install Remote Desktop Services User CAL on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition with SP1
Dear Sir,
Presently we have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition with SP 1. And now i would like to install Remote Desktop Services User CAL on this server. I have 25 digit product key of Windows Server
2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services User CAL (20). Downloaded this product key from our MSDN Subscriptions.
Kindly suggest me how to install (CAL server with product key that i have) and configure remote desktop services on my above existing server also how to point other server with my CAL server.
ThanksHi,
1. Install Remote Desktop Session Host and Remote Desktop Licensing Role Services using Server Manager.
2. Open RD Licensing Manager (licmgr.exe), Activate your server, then install your license
3. In RD Session Host Configuration (tsconfig.msc), set the Licensing mode to Per User and Specify your RD Licensing server name (itself). If you want you may configure these two settings via group policy setting instead. The path of the
group policy settings is Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Licensing
4. You may point other RDSH servers to your RD Licensing server using RD Session Host Configuration or via group policy as mentioned above.
5. Optionally you may consider installing other Remote Desktop Role Services such as RD Gateway, RD Web Access, RD Connection Broker, etc.

Need to locate HP driver for HP inkjet printer 3653 for windows 7 64-bit enterprise edition. HP site does not have one. The OS on my laptop does not have one. Appreciate if HP can make this available. thx.
I have a similar problem. There does not seem to be a way to get the Windows 7 driver for my network connected HP laser Printer. HP seems to have the driver, but the software you are supposed to download won't let you install it because the printer is not installed on the Windows 7 machine, but on another computer on the network. Windows 7 won't install the printer without the driver. Catch 22.

Can I install Solution Manager 7.0 in Window Server 2008 R2 Enterprise ed.?
Hi, SDN experts.
I am trying to install Solution Manager 7.0 in in Window Server 2008 R2?
I checked the the software requirement for SAP Solution Manager 7.0, it only mentioned Window Server 2003 and 2008 enterprise edition.
I am trying to install Solution Manager 7.0 in in Window Server 2008 R2 enterprise edition?
When I ran the Solution Manager Master Installer, the Pre-requisite Checker gave a warning message saying that it detected incompatible server version, that the server version is Windows NT 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (I guess it meant Window Server 2008 R2).
=======
The following Windows operating system version is supported: Windows Server 2003 (i.e. Version 5.2) and Windows Server 2008 (i.e. Version 6.0).
Current Windows version: Version 6.1, Service Pack 1.0, productive type: Server.
You can check the current version of you operating system by runningu2026u2026..
========
Can I actually install Solution Manager 7.0 in Window Server 2008 R2? Will this cause problem during the installation/post-installation if I ignore this message?
Thanks,
KCHi,
I think it is not straight forward to install SAP Solution Manager 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2.
I am installing Solution Manager 7.0 , the installation encountered error on Create Java Users step (Phase 31 of 44). When I login to SAP solution Manager system through SAP GUI. I encountered this error:
"OS release Windows NT 6.1 7601 Service Pack 1 4x AMD64 Level 6 (Mod 44 Step 2) is not supported with this kernel (700)'
I found that it is because I am installing SAP Solution Manger 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2, which the existing kernel version does not support.
Do you know which kernel I should install?
I browsed in:
SAP Application Components" SAP SOLUTION MANAGER" SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.0" Entry by Component" Solution Manager ABAP Stack
SAP KERNEL 7.00 64-BIT UNICODE --> Windows Server on x64 64bit -->MS SQL SERVER
I downloaded:
SAPEXEDB_291-20001361.SAR Kernel Part II (for Basis 7.00) 291
Is this the right Kernel patch I should use?
If it is the right kernel patch file, how do I apply the latest kernel to existing Solution Manager system? Can you give me some guidance on this?
Thanks,

Oracle 9.2.0.1 software URL for window 2003 server
I go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/index.html
and download two zip files from Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0.1) for Windows SERVER 2003.
However, one zip file is for the Oracle installer and the other zip file is for
9.2.0.3 patch.
There is NO 9.2.0.1 base software for window 2000 server.
Where can I download the 9.2.0.1 base software for window 2000 server (32 bit)?
Thanks.Hi,
From metalink :
Microsoft Windows 2003 (x86) Version 2003
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 9.2
Status: Certified
Certification Note: Patch Set 9.2.0.3.0 or higher is required.
That's why when you download 9iR2 for W2003 32-bits, you download the 9.2.0.3.

Migration SAP SolMan 7.1 MSSQL 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition to MSSQL Standard Edition
Hello,
I try to migrate a SAP SolMan 7.1 on Windows MSSQL 2008 R2 ENTERPRISE EDITION to
MSSQL 2008 R2 STANDARD EDITION.
In the source system (MSSQL 2008 R2 ENTERPRISE EDITION) there is "table compression" and
"partitioning" active.
the MSSQL STANDARD EDITION doesn`t support these two features.
So a normal DB backup on the source system and restore in the destination system is not possible.
But the tables compression I can deactivte by the SQL script
SELECT DISTINCT ‘ALTER TABLE [' + SCHEMA_NAME(schema_id) + '].[' + NAME + '] REBUILD PARTITION = ALL WITH (DATA_COMPRESSION = NONE);’
FROM sys.partitions p
join sys.objects o
on p.object_id = o.object_id
WHERE o.TYPE = ‘u’
and data_compression_desc != ‘NONE’
UNION
SELECT ‘ALTER INDEX ALL ON [' + SCHEMA_NAME(schema_id) + '].[' + NAME + '] REBUILD PARTITION = ALL WITH (DATA_COMPRESSION = NONE);’
FROM sys.partitions p
join sys.objects o
on p.object_id = o.object_id
WHERE o.TYPE = ‘u’
and data_compression_desc != ‘NONE’
is there a way to undo or deactivate the the SQL table partitioning without any data lost ?
Or is there a other way to migrate a SAP SolMan 7.1 form MSSQL 2008 R2 ENTERPRISE EDITION to MSSQL 2008 R2 STANDARD EDITION ?

Essbase 11.1.1.3 Perormance Issue on windows 2003 64bit
When I run a calculation script on the essbase 11.1.1.3 which installed on windows 2003 64bit, it takes me 100 seconds to finish it. But when I run the same calculation script with the same data, same database OTL and same database configuration on essbase 9.3.1 which installed on window 2003 32 bit, it only takes me 50 seconds to finish it. It means essbase 11.1.1.3 have some Perormance Issue on windows 2003 64bit? or can anybody help me to make the essbase 11.1.1.3 intalled on windows 2003 64bit as fast as the essbase 9.3.1 installed on window 2003 32 bit?
Edited by: user10552229 on 2010-7-10 上午1:12If you set all of the configurations the same as your 32-bit server, you may not be properly optimized. There are a couple of ODTUG Kaleidoscope presentations that talk about 64-bit optimization:
http://www.odtug.com/apex/f?p=500:565:2342367037265046:pg_R_751386216307798846:NO&pg_min_row=11&pg_max_rows=10&pg_rows_fetched=10

You have to be at least a (free) Associate Member of ODTUG to download these presentations but, if you are serious about Essbase, you should be a (full) ODTUG member anyway.

thanks for your help.
For a few tables this will work.
Unfortunately I have an SAP system with thousands of tables and index`s .

Using Windows 2003 enterprise edition?
Hi,
I am about to install a SAP j2ee instance in windows 2003.
I was under the impression that only Windows 2003 enterprise edition was supported/recommended for SAP productive instances. Enterprise version is costly compared to standard version.
Now, it looks like standard edition is acceptable itf you can handle memory limits (4GB for 32-bit and 32GB for 64-bit).
Can someone confirm my assumption?
thanks.Hi Eric. From instguide you can use this servers for 64 bit (example for Central System) :
Windows Server 2003 :
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition
For any version of Windows Server, you need the
latest supported service pack.
A suitable Windows Resource Kit is strongly
recommended.
You can't use 32 bit for Production system, in any case for release NW SR3 -->
you can't even install on 32 bit platform.
P.S. for HA for example you can't use Standart Edition ...
P.P.S for example read this
Re: SAP's compatibility with Windows Server 2003
latest answer are from SAP member.

Hi everyone, I am having issues updating a clean Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 32 bits Service Pack 2, so any help with be appreciated cause I've already tried all my cards for the past 5 days in this particular issue without success.
All I did so far is installing Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise with Service Pack 2, open IE to update, it keeps searching for updates and never stop, after 20mn to 30mn the process svchost.exe start using 100% of my CPU.
I already tried the following scenarios:
1- Install IE8, install the update KB927891 and the Windows Update Agent 3.0 (I already had this one installed). Reboot and run windows update trough IE8 and the problem did not solved.
2- Install those 2 software "MicrosoftFixit.wu.MATSKB.Run" and "MicrosoftFixit50777", open IE to update, it still hangs and continues eating my CPU. This is the output of "MicrosoftFixit".
Windows Update error 0x8007000D(2014-01-06-T-06_06_34A) --> Not Fixed
Cryptographic service components are not registered (This service is actually running successfully) --> Not Fixed
3- I found the following script that would register some DLL, deleting the "SoftwareDistribution" and forcing windows update to solve the problem and nothing happened either.
Link to script:

Here is a link to the content of my WindowUpdate.log file:
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=883EE9BE85F9632B%21105
Thank you in advance for helping. All I did so far is installing Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise with Service Pack 2, open IE to update, it keeps searching for updates and never stop, after 20mn to 30mn the process svchost.exe start using 100% of my CPU.
Herein is the root cause of your issue. A topic that's been discussed in several blogs, forums, and even in the media since September regards a known issue with attempting to patch IE6 RTM via Windows Update.
Aside from that particular issue... browsing the Internet with an unpatched instance of IE6, especially from a Windows Server system, is also asking for a world of hurt.
Might I suggest the following:
Download the IE8 for Windows Server 2003 installer to a thumb drive.
Download the latest Cumulative Security Update for IE8 for Windows Server 2003 to a thumb drive.
Reinstall Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2.
Upgrade to IE8 from the thumb drive installer and apply the
Cumulative Security Update.
Now your machine is capable of safely browsing to Windows Update to install the rest of the updates (well, maybe, there's also all those other Security Updates from the past seven years that your machine still has vulnerabilites for -- even those seven
years of updates are going to take a Very Long Time to scan for, download, and install).
Why don't you have a WSUS server? -- noting, wryly, that you've posted in the *WSUS* forum.

Error while Installing R12.1.1 on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition
Dear All,
I am installing R12.1.1 on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition Server. I am using the media source that i have downloaded from Oracle Edelivery. I have done a MD5Sum check on the dowloaded files based the MD5SUM Check details given in site. (Not after staging).
I have the stage files in the same partition as the partition in which the OS & Oracle is being installed (Free space is 300GB after staging)
When the Installation reaches 53%, the installation fails with the following Error: "RW-50004: Error code received when running external process. Check log file for details. Running APPL_TOP Install Driver for VIS Instance"

Do I need the /3gb switch on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
I have an Oracle 10g database running on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with 16gb of RAM. Do I need to set the /3gb and or /PAE switch in the boot.ini file for Oracle to use this memory?
This metalink doc talking pretty extensively about the setting
Implementing Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) or VLM on Windows Platforms
Doc ID: Note:225349.1
As you might know 32bit system has limitation of 4G max addressable memory issue. In Windows that's 2G limit because Windows reserve 2G for system. With /3G switch you can let Application address 3G with 1G for OS, if your system has more than 4G you need to use /PAE to address memory beyond 4G.
Of course if you don't plan to allocate more than 2G to Oracle SGA then don't need the settings. -

More relevant info can be found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=3 ... scroll down to 'Platform Guide' and select the appropriate guide - Windows 32 bit, Windows Itanium, or Windows 64 bit - that is relevant to your environment. For 32 bit, look at Chapter 1 and the sections
