Windows 2003 time issue - recreate W32TIME account?

I have gone through many google searches and posts and think i have figured out my problem, but can't find a solution to resolve it.  after unregistering and re-registering the w32tm and actually taking the whole w32time key and subkeys from another
box and importing them i still receive the same error after reboot on my DC -  event id 30, w32time=source.  desc "the time service encountered an error while reading its configuration from the registry and cannot start. the error was: the system
cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002).  now my problem and please make note and don't just give me a link to something i have already tried is that after recreating the registry keys (either by re-registering using w32tm and/or using an export
from a working box, and importing it into the non-working server) either way after a reboot the problem re-occurs and the problem is that the W32TIME ACCOUNT is not listed in the PERMISSIONS tab of the CONFIG folder/key nor is it listed in the TIMEPROVIDERS
key/folder.  when trying to add it, it IS NOT LISTED as an OBJECT to add.  HOW DO I RECREATE A LOCAL W32TIME ACCOUNT to allow my server to read the registry folders/keys.
i am able to get the time service to start during my session (while logged in, using w32tm /unregister and then w32tm /register) and of course net start w32time and it does start but after a reboot, crapola.
not sure why it would be have permissions to read the necessary keys whilst in my session (since there is no w32time account given read permission listed (when checking the permissions of the CONFIG and TIMEPROVIDERS keys)) and then after a reboot the service
fails due to (what I am guessing) is due to the W32TIME account not having the necessary permissions (since the account is not listed), there has to be an easy fix to recreate the W32TIME account, I checked another server but couldn't find anything in
the registry about a local account.  On a side note, I have never seen this account anywhere in any 'local users and groups' anywhere.
it would seem that the w32time account is not necessarily needed to be given permission to the keys, since it works during my session without the keys having the w32time account listed??
after a reboot (with a service failure popup) and checking event log (system) shows two errors -
event id 30 - w32time - as mentioned above and then shortly thereafter
event id 46 - w32time - the time service encountered an error and was forced to shutdown - the error was : 0x80070002 - the system cannot find the file specified.
i am then forced to /unregister and /register using w32tm. and then net start w32time and it starts and works fine....until i reboot.
I have a feeling i will be demoting the DC and rebuilding it, probably quicker too.
UPDATE 8/29/10 - 4:45pm est - I ended up removing its role as a dc and dns server...demoted, and also removed it from the domain (the issue still occurs) and it is (if i didn't mention before) a VM running on hyperv.  so i will keep the vhd file
to tinker with if anyone has any suggestions, however at this point i am rebuilding a new vm as a 2008 DC.
what it is!

Hi, I have the same problem on Windows Server 2003 installed on Hyper-V server. I found an article with possible solution but I don`t have to test it. The article says that I have to disable the time sync on the Hyper-V configuration for this Server.
Here`s the link http://mikefrobbins.com/2010/05/17/active-directory-and-server-time-synchronization-problems-with-hyper-v/

  • Install oracle 10g on windows 2003 server issues

I am very new to oracle
I installed oracle 10g release 2 Enterprise Edition on a Win 2003 Server.
I got all oracle services running after install
But I can not connect to the database from another machine which is on the same domain
    I set USE_SHARED_SOCKET =TRUE under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Oracle/HOME
(as I learned from the forum)
I turned off windows firewall (or with the firewall turned on add port 1521 to Exceptions list) .
I restarted listener serivces and I even reboot the machine Still I can not connect to the database from another machine.
    What am doing wrong here?
We are on a tight schedule now any help will be very appriciated.

Firewall-related problems normally throw ORA-12535, not ORA-12170 (the message a timeout occurred is the same). Description for this error is:
    Error:     ORA-12170 (ORA-12170)
    Text:     TNS:Connect timeout occurred
Cause:     The server shut down because connection establishment with a
client failed to complete within the allotted time interval. This
may be a result of network/system delays; or this may indicate
that a malicious client is trying to cause a Denial of Service
         attack on the server.
Action:     If the error occurred because of a slow network/system,
         reconfigure the SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in
sqlnet.ora to a larger value. If a malicious client is suspected,
use the address in sqlnet.log to identify the source and restrict
access. Note that logged addresses may not be reliable as they can
         be forged (e.g. in TCP/IP).
Hostname in listener.ora has a domain included, while in tnsnames.ora has not. Y Can you ping the host? Does tnsping work? To get more detailed informations you may turn on tracing on the client side (in sqlnet.ora) and the server sid (in listener.ora).

  • Managing event viewer remotely in windows 2003

Same user is configured as administrator on all the servers in one domain at windows 2003 server. However, the account is not
the domain admin.  Can security logs be managed or cleared remotely from any of these servers? Will this require any specific configuration?

    Hi,
So you want to give Non-Administrator users access remotely to Event logs if the Servers or DomainControllers they are accessing are Windows 2003?
If yes, i think you could refer to:

  • Issues with Shell32.dll, NTDLL.DLL and Migration from Windows 2003 to Windows 2012

    Hello all,
I am new to ThinApp and working as a consultant to help a company migrate older Windows 2003 software to Windows 2012.  They have purchased ThinApp 5.0.4.5 so that is what we will be using.
We have created a clean 2003 VM and did a pre-scan
We loaded the application and configured it  and then did a capture.
We then tested the capture the 2003 VM and it works
We then loaded the capture on a Clean 2003 VM and it works
We then loaded onto a 2012 VM and when running the app from a command window get an error  -missing import shell32.dll:StrCpyNW
If we run the capture in Emulation Mode on 2012 VM, we do not get the Shell32.dll error but instead the cmd fails with a Fault Module Name  - NTDLL.DLL error
I am sure I am just missing the correct location to identify or configure the capture - but do not have the experience to know where yet.  (Taking training next week).
Until then, is there any suggestions which I can try?
Thanks for your time in advance,
    Vince

Tried and done that.  The main issue while configuring the printer from the printer Web Interface is that there is no access to the Digital Sending section due to a problem with the "Sun Java plug in"  I think the code mentions 1.31. or similar.
We downloaded the java plug in and installed it.  No progress.
We reset the printer to defaults and reconfigured it .. It sees the smtp gateway and access it but fails sending email with scanned documents..
We have tried in very different ways.  We connected the printer to another domain SBS server 2003 and it works beautifully.  So, I have no idea on what is the problem. We created a firewall exception for ports 390. 1783 from the SBS to the Printer
    and still no go..
We have tried four different accounts and nothing.  Same results as stated originally.
    Any other suggestions??

  • Concurrent Manager Issue in Oracle Apps 11i on MS Windows 2003

    Hi,
We have Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.10) on Windows 2003 running Oracle Financilas and Supply Chain.
From this morning onwards, concurrent requests are not getting completed. All requests are showing Running Normally. I checked the server (Single Node 4 GB Memory) and CPU usage is more than 90%. Task Manager is showing 50% CPU usage for SYSTEM (Image Name). Once the CPU usage for SYSTEM(image name) goes beyond 40% then the server is becoming slow and the problem starts.
When I stop the Concurrent Manager it does not stop and I have to End Process the FNDLIBR process manually.
I have recreated the concurrent manager using CCMSETUP and also ran cmclean.sql. Nothing is helping.
System is Live since 2006 and the issue started only today.
Please suggest any solutions as this is happening in our Production system.
    Thanks.
    Thiru

    Thiru,
Which concurrent manager consumes the CPU usage? Are you able to identify it?
Any errors in the CM log file? Did you try to start the CM with diag=y and see if any errors are reported in the log files?
What happen to the CPU usage when you stop the CM?
I assume that you are running Purge Concurrent Manager/Requests on regular basis, so this should not be an issue here.
Please review the following notes, and see if it helps.
Note: 114380.1 - Concurrent Manager Processes Taking Lots of CPU

  • Very long search times from an IMac running 10.6.7 Snow Leopard when searching for files on a windows 2003 server

    The issue is as follows:
The Imac is connected to the  windows 2003 server via SMB type connection.
There are four sub folders in the main directory. We go to one of the sub folders in this case Server.
We go to search window and type the file name that we want to search such as test .
The choices selected for search parameters are Server for location and contains (same results if picked by file name)
Search takes roughly 6 minutes before it returns the result.
If we do the same search on the old Mac Server it will take 15 seconds to complete using same search parameters.
Any ideas on how to speed up search times to the Windows 2003 Server? I have tried going to finder preferences and removing the sharing section. That did not help.

    Okay, I've....
    1) Reinstalled XE, to start from scratch
    2) Went in to SQL*Plus, did a "create pfile from spfile;"
    3) Shutdown the database
    4) Started it up in MOUNT mode
    5) Ran NID, to change the database name from 'XE' to 'CTXMGMT'
    6) Shutdown the database again
    7) Edited the pfile to change the database name (i.e. "db_name='CTXMGMT'")
    8) Started up the database
And that worked! So that's good... but now my question is:
How do I change the SID for the database? Currently, the instance name for the database is still 'XE'....
    SQL> select instance_name
    2 from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME
    xe
I'd like it so a connection could be made to the database with the tnsnames.ora file looking like this:
    CTXMGMT =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = rodin)(Port = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = CTXMGMT))
Could someone explain how to get the database to this state? Thanks.

If you set all of the configurations the same as your 32-bit server, you may not be properly optimized. There are a couple of ODTUG Kaleidoscope presentations that talk about 64-bit optimization:

I ended up putting it in DFU mode.  It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w.  I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

  • Using Time Machine to back up to a Windows 2003 Server

I am trying to set up my Time Machine to back up to a windows 2003 server share. I have found some hacks on how to do so, however i am not successful.
What I have done so far:
TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 in terminal, which got TM to see my shared drives, however, when i try to backup to my specific drive it gives me an error of not being able to write disk image. So i did:
hdiutil create -size 100g -fs HFS+J -volname “TimeMachine Hcomp” Hcomp_000045128a91.sparsebundle
using the appropriate mac address, volume name, and OSX computer name. However, when i run that in terminal, it comes back with a message saying it can only create one volume at a time.
I'm not quite sure where to go from here, I feel so close, but im stuck.
Also, on another side note, If I get this working, I would like to find a way where when TM is backing up data, it does not pop up the work bar window, I would prefer if it just worked in the background, and show it's status in the menu. I dont know if this is possible, But any suggestions would be of help
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the response,
I understand the requirements for TM to work, and In the steps i've been trying, you'll see that the command 'hdiutil create -size 100g -fs HFS+J -volname “TimeMachine Hcomp” Hcomp_000045128a91.sparsebundle ' creates and HFS drive partition on my server share.
I guess i'm not looking for an answer as to why when i enter this command, I get a response of only one volume can be created at a time. Am I missing something in this command?
    Thanks!
Since you are using a hack, and therefore in an unsupported area, I suppose anything possible.
You might browse around the TimeCapsule forum which more closely represents what you are doing than this forum
    The TC forum is here:

It's possible that it may be a limitation of the system, hack or no hack.

This is a 'known problem' as discussed on the MacWindows site, see http://www.macwindows.com/More-on-OS-X-conflicts-with-Windows-Server-Deduplicati on.html
It appears to still affect Mavericks 10.9.5 at least from the lack of any positive reports to the contrary. It is perhaps a bit late but it would have been worth signing up for the public beta of Yosemite and testing that and if needed reporting it as an issue for Yosemite as this will be getting more bug fix attention than Mavericks now.
I would agree turning off de-duplication is not a desirable solution, however other possibilities to consider are installing the standard Samba software on a Mac and using that instead of Apple's SMBx software. This is done by using the SMBup installer See http://eduo.info/2013/07/13/smbup-faq it does not officially list Mavericks but I did see at least one report that it still worked. A second possibility is to install ExtremeZ-IP which installs an AFP server on to your Windows Server and also gives the bonus of supporting Spotlight searches.
Note: You should only try SMBup on a test setup first.

  • Oracle 10g on Windows 2003:  Can't start with any account but Local System

Fresh install of Oracle 10g on Windows 2003. I install as a member of the local admin group and everything works great. The various services are starting as Local System, though, and I'd prefer to set them up to start as a specific domain user account.
When I make that change, however, I can't get any of the Oracle related services to start. I've added this domain user to the local ora_dba group on my server, given it the ability to log on as a batch job and log on as a service in the local security policy. Doesn't seem to help.
I saw a thread that implied using a domain user account wasn't supported (didn't seem right to me, but what the hell), so I created a local user account and tried that. Same result.
    Something I'm missing?
    Thanks.

What is missing, I suspect, is reading the installation docs.
    http://docs.oracle.com
If that doesn't work then come back and ask specific requestions referencing the appropriate document and naming the actual version you are trying to install (ps 10g is a marketing name not a version number).
