Windows 2008 and RemoteApp

Good Morning,
Iu2019m investigating the possibility to use the Windows 2008 u201CRemoteAppu201D functionality in order to publish the SAPGui in all our subsidiaries.
I know that Citrix does something like that but I would like to explore this new possibility.
Have you never used that feature?
Thanks,
Federico Biavati

couldn't find much but check attached link related with remoteapp

Can you post your switch config?
How many switches do you have? Presumably you have more than one, this  one is connected to others, and those others have servers and clients?
Try doing a 'show arp' on the switch and comparing the IPs and MACs to your windows server. Do it a few times as it may change as each device using the IP sends packets.

  • Remote desktop connection issue with an RDP client while connecting to some of windows 2008 and 2003 operating system flavors and not receiving SDin value choice 26 from DomainMCSPDU

    Hi Team
We have our RDP client and i came across with one issue "Expected data got 3" with this client.
This issue is getting while connecting some of below operating system flavors.
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Enterprise edition
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Standard edition
    Microsoft Windows 2003 servers
When we are trying to get RDP to those servers with our client, getting "Expected data got 3" error. One more main thing here is the specified error is not getting for all the servers of same operating system in above list.
Able to get the RDP console for those servers using mstsc client.
When i read the [MS-RDPBCGR] specification, i found the below points
mcsSDin (variable): Variable-length PER-encoded MCS Domain PDU (DomainMCSPDU) which encapsulates an MCS Send Data Indication structure (SDin, choice 26 from DomainMCSPDU), as specified in [T125] section 11.33 (the ASN.1 structure definitions
are given in [T125] section 7, parts 7 and 10). The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure.
In my code i am not getting SDin value as 26. Is it the problem with Remote desktop Licensing in RDP servers as specified in the specification like "The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid
Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure."
Could you please explain me is this issue is happening due to Licence configuration in RDP server and please provide support with server side configuration if any because our code works for other servers ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pavan G.

  • Windows 2008 and Tiger SMB Issues

I've been pulling hair out all morning over this one.
We have a new Windows 2008 server for file sharing. We are trying to connect to it via SMB on our network (with AD domain). Works great on PC, works on Leopard, does not work on Tiger.
From connect I type “smb://xxxxxxxx” after a few minutes I get an error: “could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct” which is odd because I haven’t entered any login credentials to begin with.
I’ve been pouring over Google, Microsoft KB and anything else I can come across with no luck. Things I’ve tried.
-Clearing keychain passwords for the server
-Setting the digital signing on the server to disable (most cited fix, but no go for me)
-Setting Sharing and Security model to “Classic – local users authenticate themselves”
-Setting LAN Manager authentication to “Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”
-Editing the smb.conf file on the mac to no security
-Created the nsmb.conf file on the mac with minauth=none.
-Used Directory access on the mac to add the mac and bind it to the domain.
-Many Many restarts of the server and clients (and running gpupdate.exe on the server)
One thing that DOES work is a trial of ADmitmac… but this is not realistic for us if we have guest users needing to access the share.
I’ve been able to use smb before with tiger and windows xp and windows 2003… but the mac is throwing a fit over the new windows 2008. Also, we can’t upgrade all of our machines to Leopard (which does work) because it will break Quark 6.5.

Any relevant looking log messages if you browse in Console?

  • MMC hangs on Windows 2008 and SAP MMC console not coming up

    Hi All,
We are running SAP CRM 7. After upgrading Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2, SAP is coming up on our J2ee engine. We are able to login to the SAP J2ee application, but SAP MMC hangs. After the reboot, SAP MMC does come up but it hangs while starting the SAP Server Processes. We have to close the MMC from CTRL-ALT-DEL (end process). After that SAP MMC does not come up. Although, we can number number of MMC.EXE running in task manager, but
the SAP MMC window is not displayed.
We have gone through OSS note Note 1326097 - SAP MMC Snap-In crash for certain operations and installed the new version of MMC. But still the error exists. Also, we have installed the VCREDLIST patch and have installed all the DLLs mentioned in OSS SS Note 684106 - Microsoft runtime DLLs.
Also, the event viewer shows the following message

    Hello,
Try to re-create (re-register) the SAP Services (SAP instance services) in services.msc list. Then try to put SAP MMC up.
Or, after recreation of sap instance services, try to reconfigure the sap mmc as well -

  • PeopleTools on Windows 2008 and TEMP and TMP directories

Anyone running PeopleTools on Windows 2008 R2?
I've created services using a local admin account to start the app server.
I'm just about to go live on 8.52 with HR9.0 and am hitting occasional problems with pagelets rendering output.
The PeopleCode trace says that it failed to write to a temp path
Caught Exception: Integration Broker Transformation: XSLT processing error: Error opening file: C:\Users\upggs\AppData\Local\Temp\1\b5b0acd3-69fe-11e1-9d40-9b219bef5a91_832_xfrm.xml.The system error code (errno) is 3. (158,410) PTPPB_PAGELET.Transformer.XSLTransformer.OnExecute Name:execute PCPC:1775 Statement:28
Now in this example.... it's looking for the temp folder for user "upggs"... however my PSAPPSRVS are all running under my local admin account and Task Manager proves that.
Now... I have stopped and started the app domain through PSADMIN using user upggs BUT the PSAPPSRVS are definitely started under another local admin account.
Anyone seen anything like this before? Happy to call anyone that sends me and email with their phone number to gsmith (at) oxfam (dot) org (dot) uk
    thanks
    Graham

    Hi Graham,
I think this is the user that is set to start the Tuxedo service.
Can you check if the user "upggs" is assigned to the Tuxedo service.
Quick test is to change the dedicated user for the Tuxedo service to the system account and the trace shoud be written to the local admin temp dir.
    Hakan
Or try creating user "upggs" on the Webserver server as well.
I guest this user only exists on the ApplicationServer server.

  • Best Practice - IPv6 Turn Off? Windows 2008 (and R2) Servers

    Hi,
I work for a large organization.  We have close to 10,000 servers globally.  A question has come up if we should disable IPv6 on our Windows 2008 servers.  Our network is not yet capable of using IPv6.
It seems like you have to go out of your way to disable IPv6; therefore, I would assume that it is best to leave IPv6 turned on.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this.  It would be most helpful to have links to pros/cons - best practice.
    Thank you.

No, do not disable IPv6. There is no reason to do so unless you have a very specific application issue which is highly unlikely (although there are a few documented ones out there).

Whoever marked this as an "answer" obviously doesn't remember that bad-old-days of "Everything's on by default! It just works!!" and the billions of dollars in lost productivity that ensued from the hundreds (thousands?) of exploits that followed this
painfully short-sighted decision. You'd think Microsoft would have learned their lesson from the "IIS is on by default!" debacle, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Best practices for system administration say "turn off the services and protocols you don't use." As such,
IPv6 should ALWAYS be disabled on servers and business workstations if you're not currently using it, just like any other protocol or service you haven't implemented or aren't using. Not using FTP? Don't install or enable
an FTP server. Not using IPv6? Why would you have IPv6 enabled? Just because IPv6 is the newest, shiniest thing on the block doesn't mean you have to use, and it definitely shouldn't require you to start hacking about in the registry to turn it off.
The only exception to this rule would be laptops or mobile devices where the user might (conceivably) take them into an IPv6 environment. Even then, though, you have to balance the "convenience" of not having to switch-on IPv6 against the risk that
your unconfigured IPv6 stack might be exploitable by nefarious patries. Even so, the fact that almost nobody has switched their internal networks to IPv6 means that turning it off on laptops is still probably a "good idea."
For example, my laptop wireless interface might make sense to leave IPv6 enabled--I don't have any idea when I'll walk into an environment that uses IPv6 and want to use my wireless. But in the office when I'm hard-connected? We don't use IPv6 so it needs
to be "off." Even if it's just a bit of code in the Windows firewall that can be used to say "just reject IPv6 traffic on x interface" is still a big improvement. An absolute home-run would be the addition of logic that allows Windows to dynamically disable
IPv6 when there aren't any NICs or WNICs that are allowed to use it.
Finally, none of this should be construed to mean I'm advising against implementing IPv6, because I'm not. However, like any major technology project you should plan carefully, making sure you understand ALL of the consequences (not just the marketing hype,)
and making sure you'll be able to administer the changed environment as well as your administer the current one. You definitely should not let a vendor (of all things) force the decision to use it upon you because it's "on by default."

  • In place upgrade Windows 2008 and SQL 2008

    Hi all,
We are planning to upgrade to Windows 2012 and SQL 2012 , can we take this in-place upgrade path in the following order ?
    Setup 1 Host with 2 VM's running Windows 2008 R2 on Host and Windows 2008 R2/sqL 2008 on VM's.
    1. Host1(running 2 VM's) - In-place upgrade windows 2008 R2 to windows 2012 R2
    2. VM1 on host1 - In place upgrade windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2
    3. VM2 on host1 - In place upgrade windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2 (AD Server)
    4. SQL running VM1 - In place upgrade SQL 2008 with DB/reporting services to SQL 2012 DB/reporting services
All Servers ( including Host and VM's) are stand alone in a workgroup setup.( except one VM a stand alone AD server by itself).
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
If you want migrate from windows 2008r2 to windows 2012r2, you must install windows server 2008r2 sp1.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303416.aspx
For the host 1 upgrade, please refer to the following:
    http://blog.powerbiz.net.au/server-2012/in-place-upgrade-from-windows-server-2008-r2-to-windows-server-2012/
For the SQL in-place upgrade, i think you may need to ask in SQL forums:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/home?forum=sqlservermigration
    Hope this helps.

    HI All,
I am facing a problem from past few days on server environment. I have created the code for taking the screen shot of the windows as follow...This code is perfectly working in Run time environment. While running and debugging the application it is working
    fine.
But once i configured this website on Windows server 2008 or Server 2012 it is not working it hangs out the application at the method graphics.CopyFromScreen().
I am unable to find out the solution for this from last few day's.  please help me to fix it. The code is as follow.
    Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(600, 500);
Graphics graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap as System.Drawing.Image);  // The application hangs at this pt
    graphics.CopyFromScreen(160, 235, 0, 0, bitmap.Size);
    string mappath = Server.MapPath("~/dimurl/image/");
    bitmap.Save(mappath + "myfile.jpeg", System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg);
Please help me to resolve this.

Being new to PS, i think i am mixing up PS and PSexec.
I launch PS window and run a few commands PSexec commands.
Command to copy MegaCli64.exe file and execute it but i need to actually create a folder in windows and copy two files there.
    ===============================================================================================================================
    PsExec.exe -d -c \\REMOTE COMPUTER  -u administrator -p PASSWORD c:\Windows\MegaCli64.exe
----copies file in remote computer in windows folder
Here i am also not sure how to feed the txt file with the IP or hostnames of those 100 systems.
Command to launch cmd and execute MegaCli commands:-
    =====================================================
psexec \\REMOTE COMPUTER -u administrator -p PASSWORD cmd
-----this launches the commandline for the remote computer then it should run command MegaCli -PDList -aALL
