Windows 2008 R2 FSRM Quota Management
Having issues with Windows 2008 R2 FSRM Quota Management. We have everyones Home drives setup with a quota. We have different quotas for different people and the Quota % Used is not matching what is in there Home drive. One user went as
far to delete all but 4GB on his drive with a 150GB Quota and its still showing at 91% used.
Been like this for weeks(user Claims).
Any thoughts
Thanks for any assistance.
Hi,
Do you turn on the NTFS file system compression on the NTFS volume? In so, you may go over your disk quota limit even if you had plenty of free disk space available before you compressed the files.

Option to extend partition is grayed out in windows 2008 R2
Option to extend partition is grayed out in windows 2008 R2
Ok, so let's sum-up:
- You want to resize your Windows system partition (say C: )
- you failed resizing using Diskpart
- you failed resizing using a third-party server running Windows 2008 and its disk management tool (diskmgmt.msc)
- you failed resizing using Dell Extpart ...
- You have no credit to buy some EaseUS/Acronis/Partition Magic ... stuff
Then the only reliable (and last) solution you have is using Linux GParted, regardless your Partion is physical or virtual;
- if your partition is physical, good for you, boot on the Gparted CD and that would do the trick... just resize, that's a 2 mn Job.
- if your partition is a vmdk disk (VMWare), so you have to tweak your VM forcing it to boot on the GParted .ISO file (to do so: press the F2 key very quickly, as soon as the VM starts). From there, go to the Boot Option of the VM BIOS and select the CD-ROM
as the primary boot disk.
Reboot your VM, now it will automatically boot on GParted, and there you are : you CAN resize your Volume this way, it does work, the procedure is the same as if you resized a physical partition. When done, select 'Apply' and shut down your VM.
In VMWare, go back to the boot option and remove the Gparted "ISO" file from the boot menu (this will let Windows boot again).
Start your VM... Logon Windows... and now you can see your partition is successfuly resized.
You are happy, great Job!

FSRM Quotas - Directory Rename on Win2K12/Win2K12R2
On Win2K12 & Win2K12Rs [but not Win2K8R2], renaming a directory can result in the File Server Resource Manager no longer being able to display or manage quotas on sub-directories under the directory that was renamed.
Configuration & set up that was used to test this:
1) Set up a Win2K12 or Win2K12R2 server with FSRM installed.
2) Configure a NTFS volume for storing home folders and application data, where the volume name is "Data01" and the mount point for the volume is C:\VolData01. Additionally, configure a share named "Data01" for this volume's
mount point.
3) Create a directory named C:\VolData01\QuotaTest. Under this directory, create sub-directories named Folder01a and Folder02a. Under each of those sub-directories, create QuotaFolder01 and QuotaFolder02.
4) For each of the QuotaFolder01 and QuotaFolder02 directories, create a hard quota of 100 MB. Confirm that the FSRM Quota Manager shows the 4 quotas.
5) Rename Folder02a to Folder02b. Refresh the view in the FSRM Quota Manager and notice that the quota entries for C:\VolData01\QuotaTest\Folder02b\QuotaFolder01 and C:\VolData01\QuotaTest\Folder02b\QuotaFolder02 are no longer displayed.
6) Use the IFsrmQuotaManager::EnumQuotas() COM interface method to enumerate all quotas under C:\VolData01\QuotaTest and observe that the enumeration results do not include any quotas for directories under Folder02b.
7) Use the IFsrmQuotaManager::GetQuota() COM interface method to obtain the quotas for both C:\VolData01\QuotaTest\Folder02b\QuotaFolder01 and C:\VolData01\QuotaTest\Folder02b\QuotaFolder02, and note that the quotas do still exist and can be queried,
modified and removed via IFsrmQuota COM interface and its methods.
8) Rename Folder02b to Folder02a. Refresh the view in the FSRM Quota Manager and notice that the quota entries for the sub-directories under Folder02a have reappeared.
Further testing has shown that this problem occurs as long as the ancestor directory that gets renamed does not itself have a quota applied to it. So, if I have a path "C:\VolData01\QuotaTest\Folder03a\NoQuota\QuotaFolder01", and I have quotas
applied to Folder03a and QuotaFolder01, I can rename Folder03a to Folder03b and the quota on QuotaFolder01 can still be enumerated and displayed in the FSRM Quota Manager. However, if I rename NoQuota to some other name, the result is that the FSRM Quota
Manager can no longer enumerate the quota on QuotaFolder01.
This problem does not occur on Win2K8R2, and any ancestor directory in a path specification can be renamed w/o causing the FSRM Quota Manager to be unable to enumerate the quotas on subordinate directories located in the subtree under the directory that
was renamed.
I haven't found any online articles, KB articles, TechNet forum discussions or anything else that describes this problem or any way to resolve it. However, the conditions are easy to recreate so I'd like to hear back from somebody at Microsoft regarding
this problem and what can be done to get it resolved.Hi,
I can reproduce the same result and to help others understanding I added 2 pictures.
I'm trying to confirm with FSRM team about this result and if there is any update I will post back.

current OS: windows 2003 R2 x64 SP2
current SCOM version: SCOM 2007 R2
current database version: SQL Server 2005
it's possbile to upgraded from win2003 which installed SCOM 2007 R2 into windows 2008 R2 directly without reconfiguartion SCOM?Hi,
And as far as I know, in-place operating system upgrade could work, but there is no document about this. Please take backup before doing upgrade.
If you want to in place upgrade the OS, we can simply move SCOM databases to new servers and rebuild management servers one at a time. the downtime for SCOM would be very minimum if the management group has the capacity for agents to report to failover
management servers while the primary MS is getting rebuilt. You do not have to perform in place upgrade on the OS to keep SCOM.
Based on your need, I would like to suggest you add a Windows 2008 R2 as additional management server for your management group. And if possible, please also upgrade your SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.
Here is a thread for your reference:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/4713e303-76a7-4954-9494-55565757d65e/scom-server-os-and-sql-upgrade-from-2003-to-2008-r2
Regards, Yan Li
Dear Yan, Since rebuild/config SCOM Server is very complicated so it's better that I can just upgraded OS into windows 2008 R2 without do anything else. -
FSRM Service not running and Quota Management not working in Server 2008 R2
Hi,
First of all, I would like to start from beginning. I installed File Server Resource Manager in our Windows Server 2008 R2. We were especially using it for Quota Management. And we aren't using C drive but instead F drive (different volume) for quota management.
Suddenly one day, it stopped working therefore, I assumed that maybe if I restart it would have worked but unlike Linux which usually works, it didn't work. Now I can't get my File Server Resource Manager to start. The error which I get can be seen below:-
File Server Resource Manager Service error: Unexpected error.
Operation:
Checking the File Server Resource Manager global configuration store.
Starting File Server Resource Manager Service.
Error-specific details:
Error: CGlobalStoreManager::Install(), 0x80070005, Access is denied.
I did some research and there were very limited results but none of them worked.
I tried going into System Volume Information on both C drive and F drive. I tried going inside
SRM folder removing quota.xml and readding but to no avail. Finally, I removed the
File Server Role and reinstalled but it didn't really work. I still have the same problem.Hi,
My first thought is also "System Volume Information" folder. So let's try the following steps again to make sure that it is fully tested.
Run the following commands. You can copy to a BAT file instead of manually run all commands:
cd \
takeown /r /F "System Volume Information" /D Y
icacls "System Volume Information" /grant Administrator:(F)
cd "System Volume Information"
takeown /r /F srm /D Y
icacls srm /grant system:(F)
cd srm
takeown /f quota.xml
icacls quota.xml /grant System:(F)
takeown /f settings
icacls settings /grant system:(F)
cd settings
takeown /f reportsettings.xml
takeown /f srmglobalsettings.xml
icacls reportsettings.xml /grant System:(F)
icacls srmglobalsettings.xml /grant System:(F)
icacls srmglobalsettings.xml /grant System:(F)
cd ..
icacls reports /grant System:(F) /inheritance:e /T /C
icacls reports/* /grant System:(F) /T
Then reboot and see the result.
If issue still exists, check if SYSTEM and local Administrators group have Full Control permission on all these folders:
C:\windows\tasks
C:\system volume information\srm
C:\windows\system32\srm

2. Windows Server 2008 is not yet officially supported by CA Wily for the Enterprise Manager. If you want to install the Enterprise Manager anyway, set the "Windows 2003 compatibility mode" for the installer before launching it. To activate this mode, right click on the installer.exe file in the Windows Explorer, select tab "Compatibility", activate the check box for compatibility mode and select Windows 2003. If you do not set this, the installer will consider your OS as Unix and install shell scripts (no suffix) instead of batch files (.bat) and leave out some files for Windows Service registration.
If the windows service still fails to start please check if files ServiceWrapper.jar and ServiceWrapper.dll are present in folder lib. If not download them from attachment of this note.
The service should start although giving an error message regarding the ServiceWrapper.dll. You can ignore this error. -
Scom 2012 r2 DFS management packs mp windows 2008 r2 servers
Hello,
I'm having an issue in getting the 2008 r2 DFS namespaces servers to show up after installing the "Windows Server File & iSCSI Services 2012" and "Windows Server File & iSCSI Services 2012 R2". The attached mp
documentation says to "Remove all existing DFS namespaces packs prior to installing the new dfs namespaces pack". However, the 2012 mp doesn't seem to include 2008 mp.
Does anyone have a guide or can clarify the install/upgrade instructions?
Thanks.Regarding to
DFS MP Guide, this management pack contain both for windows 2008\2012

Management Portal 8.5.2 Installation in Windows 2008
Hi,
I am experiencing a problem with Management Portal version 8.5.2. when I try to install this in windows 2008 R2 SP1 64 Bit server iam getting error stating that " Un supported Operating system and installer combination"
Supported combinations are:
32bit OS - 32 bit Vim.
64bit OS - 64 bit Vim
Currently running:
64bit OS
32bit process
64bit Vim build
.........aborting the install run
Did any one face these kind of issues.....
Thanks in advance....
KarthikI experienced the same issue. This is how I resolved it.
Check all pre-requisites .NET 3.5 Feature / Application Server Role with IIS / JRE 6u11 x64 / ASP .NET 2.0 AJAX Extension 1.0 / WSE 2.0 SP3 Runtime / SQL 2005 / SQL 2005 SP4 / SQL2005 SMO x64 - note X64 versions.
Ensure that the software install is either from the CD or a mapped drive that presents the software like a CD i.e. Y:\autorun.bat
Right click Y:\autorun.bat and select Run As Administrator - make sure it is the autorun.bat and not autorun.hta - windows helpfully hides the extension by default.
Hope this helps someone else.

Removable Storage Management in Windows 2008 R2
Hi,
Removable Storage Manager option is not available in Add/Remove Features of Server Manager.
I also tried Installing the "Windows6.1-KB974674-x64" but no luck, it prompts to turn on the Removable Storage Management.
Please help me to enable the RSm in Add/Remove features of Server Manager.
Thanks!Hi,
Removable Storage Manager (RSM) is no longer included in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2. When you install the hotfix KB974674, you can use Windows NT Backup Restore Utility to restore backups that are made on Windows XP and on Windows Server 2003.

How to Upgrade Service Manager 2012 SP1 with Windows 2008 R2 to SCSM 2012 R2 with Windows 2012 R2
Hi,
We are using Service Manager 2012 SP1 UR2 with Windows 2008 R2.
I am planning to upgrade Service Manager to R2 with Windows 2012 R2. I found the steps to upgrade SCSM 2012 Sp1 to R2 but need assistance to upgrade with 2012 R2 OS.
Please suggest how to achieve the above mentioned objective.
Regards, Syed Fahad AliVirtualization solves this problem handily, by allowing you to create a new server to run the new program on the same hardware. it also solves the related problem of moving off unsupported hardware without changing OS or application. VMware is my personal
favorite, but Hyper-V, Xen, and VirtualBox all have similar capabilities.
Compare the cost of work and confidence in success of a upgrade, where any of thousands or millions of uncontrolled settings could cause an issue, to the cost of work and confidence in success of installing a new OS instance and configuring a known state
for the new environment.
In short, upgrades should no longer be a thing. there are just too many ways they can go wrong, and it's far too easy to create a new OS with minimal expense and effort. -
Bank Statement management in SAP B1 on a VMWare Windows 2008 server
Hi everybody,
One of our customer is using a VMWare Windows 2008 server with SAP B1.
Actual version of Business One is SBO 2007A PL 00 PL 15 (SQL Server 2005).
Since the installation of this server using VMWare, we encouter problems using the SAP B1 Integration Platform for the process of the bank statements.
Everything including bank statements transfer was working very fine on a "real" server before new implementation.
When trying to open the Integration Platform Control Center on the server, we now receive the following message regarding JAVA.
"JAVA Virtual Machine Launcher : could not find the main class : program will exit."
JAVA is well installed on the VMWare server.
We have searched for a solution on the Web and it seems that JAVA and VMWare are not compatible. Does anybody have any information about that ?
Does anybody already have this problem with Integration Platfom on VMWare server ?
Is there a solution to our problem ?
Thanks for all your contributions.
Best regards.
MichelHi Michel,
First of all, your PL is too low. AFAIK, the first supported PL for 2007A SP00 is PL30. You may upgrade your PL first to see if that is a bug or not.
Thanks,
