Hi Rino,
>>this link Group Policy Diagnostic Best Practice Analyzer for Windows Server 2003 (KB940122)
As far as I know, there is no such equivalent tool for Server 2008 R2.
>>my GPO settings are not being received by several computers although some of them are on LAN (1Gbps) and i have allowed two weeks for GPO settings to be received by the computers.
Please tell us what GPO settings are not getting applied, and please following the steps below to collect group policy result report on the troubled computers:
1. On domain controller, click Start -> Run, type GPMC.MSC, it will load the GPMC console.
2. Right click on "Group Policy Result" and choose wizard to generate a report for the problematic computer and user account (please place appropriately). (Choose computer and select
the proper user in the wizard)
3. Right click the resulting group policy result and click the "Save Report…" => save report to save the report to a HTML file.
Once you get the report, you may upload it to the Skydrive and provide us the download link.

Unable to install security updates via WSUS on Windows 2008 client servers
When I try install to install updates on Windows 2008 client servers I get the error : Code 80244019 Windows Update encountered an unknown error
After running the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool I get the result : GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.
On a Windows 2003 server the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool shows no error message. So I guess the problem seems to be specificly related to Windows 2008 servers.
The client server has been integrated into a WSUS console version 3.2.7600.226 runnning on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2.
Thanks in advance for the help in resolving this issue. When I try install to install updates on Windows 2008 client servers I get the error : Code 80244019 Windows Update encountered an unknown error
The 0x80244019 error is an HTTP 404 error and when encountered trying to "install updates", which really occurs when trying to
download the update files so that the updates can be installed, is almost always a function of the desired file having been manually deleted from the WSUS server. The file that should be there for the needed update, isn't, but it used to be.
If all of the clients are getting this error on all updates, then that's a function of the content store on the WSUS server being missing, in the wrong place, or configured with the wrong ACLs.
After running the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool I get the result : GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002
This result is inconclusive, and not really relevant. The CDT is 32-bit only and can't be used on 64-bit systems. Plus, we already know the client is talking to the WSUS server -- you've reported the error code -- so the Client Diagnostic Tool will
tell us nothing of use at this point (even if it did work on 64-bit systems).
On a Windows 2003 server the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool shows no error message.
Cool. It works on a 32-bit system.
So I guess the problem seems to be specificly related to Windows 2008 servers.
No... BUT... allow me to make an example of this for just a moment, and forgive me for that.
This is a great example of arriving at the wrong conclusion, caused by not considering ALL of the differences, as well as the scope and capability of the diagnostics performed. The error is not because one is '2003' and the other '2008; the error is because
one is 'x86' and the other is (obviously) 'x64'. And, in either case, diagnosing the client was wasted effort because the client is already working. (It got a real HTTP error message from the WSUS server.)
Now, we need to get some real diagnostic information to find out why you're getting this error code. :-)
Please post the actual entries from the WindowsUpdate.log where this error code appears, plus a hundred lines prior, and let's get some context around the error code, and the exact update that's involved in this issue.

How to check DFS replication status in windows 2008 r2 file server
Hi,
I have created File server DFS namespace between 2 windows 2008 R2 server. namespace mode is 2008. I have copied 3 TB data on file server 1. now it is getting replicated from file server 1 to file server 2. till now the data is not fully replicated.
My question is how can I check the status of DFS replication? how will I come to know that the initial replication is completed.Scorpio. Yes you are right. Microsoft officially says it will not work. My apologies. Thanks for the correction.
Do Ultrasound and Sonar work with DFS Replication?
No. DFS Replication has its own set of monitoring and diagnostics tools. Ultrasound and Sonar are only capable of monitoring FRS.
Is there a way to know the state of replication?
Yes. There are a number of ways to monitor replication:
DFS Replication has a management pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007 that provides proactive monitoring.
DFS Replication has an in-box diagnostic report for the replication backlog, replication efficiency, and the number of files and folders in a given replication group.
Dfsrdiag.exe is a command-line tool that can generate a backlog count or trigger a propagation test. Both show the state of replication. Propagation shows you if files are being replicated to all nodes. Backlog shows you how many files still need to replicate
before two computers are in sync. The backlog count is the number of updates that a replication group member has not processed. On computers running Windows Server 2008 R2, Dfsrdiag.exe can also display the updates that DFS Replication is currently
replicating.
Scripts can use WMI to collect backlog information—manually or through MOM.

Windows 2008 x64 TS Printing - The data area passed to a system call is too small
Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 TS using Easy Print. The server has two quad core cpu's with 16Gb of ram and is running a light processing accounting program for 80 users. The machine and easy print both work fine until the server reaches about 5Gb of memory in use. Once this happens user's documents stop printing with event id's 6161 The data area passed to a system call is too small being logged. None of the hotfixes seem to be applicable to my scenario as I am not getting the common "Access Denied" error. I have increased received and transmit buffer sizes on both NIC's to the 2048 maximum, and set the Sizreqbuf setting in the registry - to no avail.
Any help appreciated.
ThanksHi,
Thanks for the post.
The Event error 6161 is caused by one of the following conditions:
The printer is not reachable on the network
Windows cannot allocate sufficient memory
There was invalid or incomplete data received by the print spooler
A driver upgrade failed
There is a bad printer device driver
For more information, please refer to the following article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773865(WS.10).aspx
In this case, I assume that this issue may be caused by the insufficient memory.
In Event Viewer, examine the event and look for the following text: "Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 8. Not enough storage is available to process this command".
If so, please collect system information for 60 seconds and generate a System Diagnostics Report:
Open an elevated Command Prompt window. (Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.)
At the command prompt, type perfmon /report and then press ENTER. Reliability and Performance Monitor will start collecting data to create the System Diagnostics Report.
When the report is ready for viewing, locate the Diagnostic Results section of the report, and then check for any warnings (indicated by Warnings in the report). You can follow links to additional help on resolving warnings from this section. In addition, you can expand each category in the Basic System Checks section to see more details about why warnings appear. Also, the Performance section provides process-level details about top consumers of resources. You might need to increase the size of the paging file or add physical memory.
Thanks,

Windows 2008 R2 - High memory on lsass.exe
Windows 2008 R2 fully patched VM with 8GB of RAM and 4 vCPUs. Machine is a DC and file server.
Had an issue that just came up where lsass.exe will start sucking up memory. It gets to the point where the machine is almost not usable. The only way to get everything back in check is to reboot.
I just rebooted a little bit ago and I'm watching lsass.exe slowly start sucking up more and more memory. I'm not sure how to tell where the memory is being used and then how to remedy it. This machine has run fine as a DC/file/print server for 3 years.
Something has happened in the last week that is making it mad.Hi,
Firstly, have you typed an invalid IPv6 subnet mask in the Active Directory Sites and Services snap-in on that Windows Server 2008 R2 DC? If yes, please refer to the KB below:
The Lsass.exe process crashes on Windows Server 2008 R2-based domain controllers
If not, I would recommend you perform a virus scan on your DC and run the Performance Monitor's Active Directory Data Collector Set on that domain controller while the problem is occurring to find the root reason. To run the Active Directory Data Collector
follow these steps:
1.Run ”Perfmon.msc”and then press enter.
2.Expand Data Collector Sets > System.
3.Right-click on Active Directory Diagnostics and then click
Start in the menu which appears.
Once the report has compiled (The default setting will gather data for the report for 300 seconds, after which it will take an additional period to compile the report.), view reports which will show details of potential problems which need to be investigated
as possible causes.
Best regards,

Total cpu utilization percentage diagnostic removed from Windows 2008 MP?
SCOM 2012 SP1 environment running the Windows Server 2008 Operating System Management Pack, version 6.0.7026.0
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9296
We had a server that had high CPU utilization. We were able to figure out what process was causing the high CPU using some remote commands, but I am used to seeing this in the health explorer state change events view.
I looked into health explorer but there is no data.
http://i.imgur.com/eArmCM2.jpg
I then notice that in this MP, there are 2 CPU monitors
http://i.imgur.com/I9eBN4G.jpg
The first monitor shown is disabled by default, but it is this monitor that contains the diagnostic to list the top CPU consuming processes
http://i.imgur.com/tLgq9at.jpg
The CPU monitor that is enabled by default has no diagnostic tasks associated to it
http://i.imgur.com/AKAKOP9.jpg
While I have the ability to create my own diagnostic task, I would rather not, as it requires me to enter my own command or script.
I liked the fact that the CPU monitor would list the top consuming processes, as this was useful troubleshooting information.
Does anyone know why this diagnostic is not included in the new version of this monitor? I cannot find any information in the release notes.
Is there any reason I should think twice about disabling the default monitor, and setting an override to enable to “legacy” monitor that has the diagnostic task built in?I can confirm that the other OS versions have the single CPU monitor with diagnostics set to run by default. For Windows Server 2008 R2 I have created a sample management pack which enables this functionality which is available at:
http://www.systemcentercentral.com/download/re-enable-processor-diagnostic-windows-2008-management-pack/.

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

Windows 2008 Server and Windows 8 clients
Hey Guys,
I have had this problem for sometime now and really need a solution. I have Windows 2008 Enterprise Server running about 200+ terminal services clients. All Windows XP clients are fine, Windows 7 clients have issues when they get an updated version of
remote desktop client(to solve the issue we simply rollback the update), Windows 8 clients cannot connect and use out remote app. The issue stems from the newer version of remote desktop client (on windows 7 and embedded in windows 8) cannot connect to our
terminal server and generates an error and immediately disconnects. The error says "
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want
to connect to
So my questions are, how can i update my Windows 2008 Terminal server version to support these clients, or do u have migrate to Windows 2012? Or is there a solution to my current problem which will allow my client to connect and use the remoteapps?Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please follow the below steps and verify result.
LAN manager authentication level settings (Local security policy->Local Policies->Security Options->Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level).
Try to change it to "Send NTLMv2 response only"
Snap:
If still face the issue please install this Hotfix.
RDS client computer cannot connect to the RDS server by using a remote desktop connection in Windows

Bit Locker on windows 2008 R2 Virtual machine
Hello there !
We have a a number of Windows 2008 R2 machines and we wish to provide an encryption mechanism for each Virtual machine.
It's a VMware environment and all the VM files go into NFS drives.
Do you think , Bitlocker will help ?
Is Bitlocker supported on Virtual machines ?
In my opinion , Bitlocker is to safeguard against any "physical" threat to a machine.
But I wanted a second opinion here.
Please help me.VMs don't have a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) available to store the Full Volume Encryption Key (FVEK) used for BitLocker, but you can still use Hyper-V by storing the necessary information on a floppy drive. Use the command line:
cscript c:\Windows\System32\manage-bde.wsf -on C: -rp -sk A:
BitLocker is now enabled within the VM.

Error in installing Oracle client 11g on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) XenApp 6
I am trying to install "win64_11gR2_client.zip" Oracle 11g Client 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 that has been clamped and restricted by our security department. Details of the clamp:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885409
The Windows 2008 R2 server is running on CITRIX XenApp 6.
When we try to install the client on a normal version of Windows 2008 R2 without the Clamp, the installation follows through and successfully. However, when we try to install the 11g Client on the Clamped Windows 2008 R2, we get the error below:
[INS-08802] Unable to instantiate the View class referred by View ID 'SummaryUI'
This indicates the primary issue is with the clamp. My issue now is knowing what exactly is causing the error. what restrictions should I enable from the clamp in order to get the installation working?
Here is the error log:

Error connecting to the SAP SRV on Windows 2008 Server platform
Hi All
We have a problem with one of our clients they bought a new sbs windows server 2008 and we loaded sql 2005 and sap b1 SP01 PL07.
When we did the SBO install we experience connection issues and we created odbc connection on the server using named pipes and tcp/ip (used both server name and Ip address).
We also configured the server in configuration manager and we managed to login and solved the slow system connection issue. We also created odbc connection on the client machines. (Machine are on a workgroup and users have administration access on all machines),we also installed native client on all machines.
After the first batch of client installs we managed to have connection, they were other computers which were left out during the first client install and now the client want to do the remaining machines connected to SBO. On every machine that we install now we get the same error :-
*Connection failed:

Please help as most user who need access can't login and they are the main users.
rgds,
Bongani DlaminiHi Eric,
yes we are using Windows 2008 SBS for the SAP EHP4 FOR SAP ERP 6.0/NW7.01 installation.
we tried to create the key but it says access is denied.
Actual thing is we got the server with Windows 2008 server 64 bit SBS (standard FE) with Domain Controller (DC) configuration.
We have removed the DC using dcpromo to convert into Wokgroup and tried the SAP installation.
I hope you got the idea and please let me know any further suggestions or it is the problem with the license.
Thanks & Regards,
Prabhu Reddy.
