Windows 2008 R2 randomly not available

Hi,
We have a weird problem with one of our Windows 2008R2 server (not virtualized).
It randomly "freezes" actually i can ping it, but as i see most of the services are stopped when the event happens.
Unfortunately i have no logs, because when it freezes the server's log service is also stopped.
The freeze itself is totally random, last time was midnight, no one used it, so i think it couldn't be a load problem.
This is a remote desktop server. When the above problem happens and i try to log in via RD or console i have an endless login process which says "waiting for user profile service". So the only solution so far -> reset :/
Are you have any idea how to find out what cause the problem?
Thanks, Robert

Hi Thund3rw,
The server hang can caused by many reason, such as the hardware work abnormal, driver defects, the ususlly step we can try to uninstall new installed software, disable the AV soft then monitor whether the issue re-occur. It's suggested to contact
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) so that a dedicated Support Professional can help you on this issue.

You don't need to download the Windows support software, because in Snow Leopard, they are only available as a download for the Late 2010 MacBook Air.
Instead, you have to buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The Snow Leopard disc contains the Windows drivers for your Mac, so you have to install them after finishing the Windows installation

  • Windows 2008 R2 does not work on Sunfire X4170

Hi, I recently bought a used X4170 server and have a weird problem. Windows 2008 R2 does not work, but 2012 does. I tried RTM version and a version with SP1. The problem is this:
After installing, I set the password and windows just displays a blank desktop, sometimes it boots but freezes soon after - the mouse cursor moved but nothing else works.
Booting in Safe Mode works and Windows do not freeze. The Event Log contains lots and lots (about 20 per second) of these entries:

I have tried updating the driver for this device (downloaded from Intel), no difference. Is there a way to make Windows 2008 R2 work on this server?

    Hello
    Thank you for the update.
Please refer the below Knowledge document related to this issue:
Windows BSOD WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR(124) & correctable WHEA events when disabling network ports on X4170M2/X4270M2 (Doc ID 1576683.1)
However above document talks about X4170M2, I would suggest you to follow and if issue persist, please open Service Request with Oracle to diagnose further.

  • Windows support software is not available

I'm running MacOS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on a 1st-generation Macbook (Core Duo, won't run Lion). When I tell Boot Camp Assistant to download the Windows support software, I get a message that "The Windows support software is not available." I do have the Snow Leopard install disc, but it (obviously) did not come with my computer so it seems like I should not use that option. How can/should I proceed?
Never mind, right after posting (despite previously searching for relevant discussions), I found my answer in a different thread. According to Fortunny, this is not required for Boot Camp 3.0.

Correct. The Windows support/driver software is on your OSx install disk unless you are running Lion. If running Lion you download the support software.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Server not showing update history and not detecting new updates

    Hi Sirs,
We have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is showing an empty windows update history, and is not detecting new updates from the WSUS server. It says that the windows is up to date, no error when trying to detect new updates, but I doubt it because when I checked
the installed updates menu, it shows that that the most recent update date installed was last 2013, it just stop detecting and installing updates. I've already tried the ff workarounds but to no avail:
    1. restart wuauserv and bits service
    2. rename/delete the software distribution folder
    3. reinstalled the update agent/restarted the server
    4. deleted the susclientid on the registry
Thanks in advanced for your help.

    That's exactly what that means!

  • Unable to Install KB 3001652, 2961149. and 2796590 (Windows 2008 R2 Systems Not Connected to the Internet)

    To Anyone That Can Help,
I'm on a set of WSUS enabled Windows 2008 R2  servers with no network access to the Internet and I am unable to  install the following:
Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime
    KB's 300162, KB 2961149. and KB 2796590
Equally as painful, I am unable to find anything that helps.
    Any ideas...???
    Roderick Lyons

The above from Don Pick pointed me to the answer!!!!
    1) obtained the actual update files (KB2796590,KB2961149,and KB3001652) from my Infrastructure Team WSUS Administrators (download is also available from Internet)
    2)
Ran the update, which of course blew an error
    3) Clicked the error log file which gave me the following:
Summary:Failed with error 0x800B010A (A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority)
file signature could not be verified
    4)https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2746268
    5)https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Configuring-Trusted-Roots-281be43a#content
For all supported x64-based versions of Windows Server 2008 R2
(The file was actually already installed)
    6) Executed the repair from step 4
    7) All updates (KB2796590,KB2961149,and KB3001652) installed without incident!!!
    Thanks All!!!

  • Windows 2008 Server R2 not loading Desktop

    Hi All,
I have windows 2008 server R2 using as Database server.Today when i try to login it is showing two more user accounts in the login screen and i login to the server with administrator account but it was showing a blue screen(not blue screen error) with mouse
pointer.I press Ctrl+Alt+Del and open task manager>new task>desktop and click open its showing that "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to acess the item.

From cmd.exe session run SET then look for
    USERNAME=Administrator
    USERPROFILE=C:\Users\administrator
If you see USERPROFILE=C:\Users\administrator.000 (or similar) then the original local administrator profile was corrupt or otherwise orphaned.
In days past one could create a new account with local administrative rights, logon with new account, then after saving off docs, etc. from corrupt/abandoned profiles use
Control Panel|Users and Passwords and delete the old profile stores. Then when you next logon a new profile is created from an image in
\default user Have not tried this on anything newer vintage than server 2003 though.

  • NTLMv2 in Windows 2008 active or not?

I have a Windows 2008 R2 member server which has no settings configured for NTLM.
When I open the local group policy I see that the setting "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" is "Not Defined"
If I take a look at the registry location: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
I see that there is no LMCompatibilitysetting present.
What I want to know is how can I see if there are any NTLM settings active? Microsoft says that in Windows 2008 (r2) by default "NTLMv2 Response only" is active (LMcompatibilitysetting 3)
If we look in Windows 2012 r2 we see also that this settings is configured as "Not Defined"

Ok, but why doesn't it show in the register: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
It only adds an entry when I make a choice for NTLM version in the local group policy
If I do that it adds: LMCompatibilitysetting
How can we see that it actually uses NTLMv2?
Windows, and probably almost all modern computer software too, has defaults coded within the programs.
These defaults apply even if the settings to set alternate/optional values don't exist. This is a very common practise in modern programming.
In this example, LSA and the related lsass.exe will operate in default mode when the registry setting is absent.
There is no value (to the program) to have the default setting recorded in registry - the program doesn't need that, and, to have every default setting recorded in registry is wasteful (increases the size of the registry while delivering no benefit to the
    program).
It's a separate matter to determine/confirm the actual NTLM methods in use. To do that, you probably need to perform network traffic capture and analysis (e.g. with MSFT NetMon, or Wireshark [formerly known as Ethereal] and examine the packets captured)

  • Windows 2008 Group Policy not working in Windows 8.1

    Hi ,
We found that the GPO settings created in Windows 2008 is not working in a Windows 8.1 machine.
One example is the proxy settings.
We confirmed from gpresult that the GPO is in the list but checking the actual proxy settings, it is not applied.
    Regards,
    Jhun

    Hi,
How did we configure the proxy settings, using Internet Explorer Maintenance? If it is this case, just as Martin suggested, we can’t use IEM to manage
IE 10 and IE 11.  However, we can configure the proxy setting via Group Policy Preferences (GPP).
Regarding this point, the following blog can be referred to for more information.

    Proxy Via Group Policy

In addition, when we use this GPP extension, pay attention to GPP F5-F8 keys.

  • Windows 2008- Account Lock not working and getting Domain Policy access denied

    Hi
Windows 2008 Root Domain we tried to Edit the policy and we were getting the error "Access Denied on the Domain Policy template" we resolved by giving Write permission for authenticated user on the Template. later we applied account lock out policy.
but it is not applying and automatically reset to 0 in account lockout tool.
Error:"Access Denied:\\sysvol\Domain.com\policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Windows NT\SecEdit\GPTmpl.inf.Make sure that you have the right permission to this object.

    Hi,
The error message is Access Denied, so it should be a permission issue.
You mentioned that you tested the account lockout in isolated network, it was working fine without any problem, by which did you mean that you didn’t get the Access Denied error message, or account wasn’t lockout out?

  • Windows 2008 R2 will not install on ESXi 4.0 Update 2

    Hello,
I am attempting to install Windows 2008 R2 from an iso downloaded directly from Microsoft on ESXi 4.0 update 2.  The server is a C210-M2.  The iso is booting to the initial install screen properly, but when electing to install I am immediately prompted with "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing."  (See attached image)
Wondering if anyone has come across this issue yet and what steps need to be taken to install the OS properly.
    Thanks!

    Guys,
What you want to do is ensure you have the driver loaded in virtual media when installing the OS.  See step 12 in the link below from the Cisco support page.

    Hope this helps.

  • HP Deskjet 3920 driver for Windows 7 64 bit not available anywhere

No drver software is available for operating system Windows 7 64 bit
This is the 4th week since I started search.

Hello I am an employee at HP and I just replied to another person on the same type of problem.  I don't know if you already did this but I had the same problem on a different printer and it worked for me.  You have to have the printer turned on and hooked up to your PC and then do a Windows Update.  With Win7 update the process will see that you have the printer and need a driver and should give you the option to download it.  You can then select it and download it and it should work.  Here is also the text from the HP website.  I hope this works for you.
NOTE:When you connect the USB cable to the printer, and then to the computer, Windows 7 activates Windows Update. Windows Update searches online for the most recent product driver on the Windows Update site. If the online driver is more recent than the driver stored in Windows 7, the computer downloads and installs the updated driver. The Windows Update process takes place automatically. Therefore, you might not notice that the process is in progress.
