Windows 2008 Standard SP2 inplace upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1 failing
Hi All,
I'm encountering an issue with performing an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2008 SP2 to Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
Server details:
Virtual machine running on VMware ESXi 5.
Uninstalled AV and backup software
Domain controller also running AD Certificate Services#
UAC disabled
Running setup as a domain admin
When launching setup, the process completes "Copying Windows Files". After a few seconds or being on "Gathering files, settings and programs 0%", an error appears on screen -
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.
Error code: 0xC0000005

Hi,
Generally such kind of issues are caused by third party programs such as CD burning programs, device driver etc.
First please refer to this article to see if there is anything helpful:
Guide for Upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff972408(v=ws.10).aspx
Meanwhile from the description, it mentioned a file under C:\Windows\winsxs. Check the permission of the folder amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6002.18005_none_676975d87cc9b6e6 and the file wcp.dll to see if the permission
and ownership are correct compare with the other folders.
Also as it provided 2 minidump files, you will need to use WinDBG to read the minidump files and see if there is any further information.

I am trying to install Photoshop Elements on my new Windows 8 computer (I recently upgraded my windows 7 computer where Photoshop was working fine on before). It says the serial number is invalid. Do older versionsnot work on Windows8, or do I need to uninstall it from my old computer first?
You are allowed to have two activated installations. If you happened to have one on this Windows 8 machine before, it is possible that the activation used for it was never deactivated (did you deactivate it before you upgraded Windows?). Talk to Adobe support thru chat. They might be able to resolve this with you:

Upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 fails
I'm trying to upgrade from SQL Server 2008 Express to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The installation is failing. I get two log files. The first appears to be a summary. The second is an MSI install log file. The MSI log is too large to paste in here and
I cannot attach files, so I included the section where it appears to fail. Based on the log contents below, how can I fix this?

Reporting services for port 80 and 443 works fine both for reports and reportingserver on SQL server 2008 R2. But when I try to upgrade from SQL server 2008 R2 to 2012 this error pops up. How to make sure before upgrading regarding reporting services that

Reports quit working after upgrade to SQL Server 2008
Folks,
I'm running Visual Studio 2008 (sp1) and recently upgraded to SQL Server 2008. Reports worked fine until after upgrade. Now I get the "Login Failed" error message.
Here is code snippets:
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument oReport = new CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument();
TableLogOnInfo LonOnInfo = new TableLogOnInfo();
TableLogOnInfos crtableLogoninfos = new TableLogOnInfos();
TableLogOnInfo crtableLogoninfo = new TableLogOnInfo();
private Tables crTables;
private Table crTable;
ConnectionInfo crConnectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
crConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity = true;
crConnectionInfo.ServerName = Properties.Settings.Default.InstanceName + "
Instance";
crConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "DATABASE";
crTables = oReport.Database.Tables;
for (int i = 0; i < crTables.Count; i++)
crTable = crTables<i>;
crtableLogoninfo = crTable.LogOnInfo;
crtableLogoninfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo;
crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crtableLogoninfo);
oReport.RecordSelectionFormula = xFormula;
crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = oReport;
Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
TerryCR 2008 does not support MS SQL 2008 yet, meaning we have not had time to test it completely and add it to our supported platforms.txt file.
One thing I noticed is you are using trusted authenication:
crConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity = true;
Make sure you give access to all users, MS changed the security properties a lot since SQL 2005 and you can't simply log into any database now. If you have a DBA check with that person on how to configure NT Authentication or the Help file. You can also do a quick test and simply use MS SQL Server authentication to confirm if it's a user permission issue.
Try creating a report that doesn't use Integrated Security, check the box off on your data logon prompt in the Designer. -
If I upgrade from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1, will it have any affect on my Client Hyper-V XP Pro VM That I have installed ?
WILANDSOPThe same way that you would on a physical machine - select shutdown, not logoff.
The other option is to do it from the Hyper-V manager. Turn off is like holding the power button on a physical machine - it just powers off. Save puts the vm in a saved state which is quick to restart. Shut Down does a system shutdown of the vm, and
requires a reboot when you start it next time.

Error upgrading Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 to 2012: 0x80070490
Hi everyone!
As it is release day for Hyper-V Server 2012, I decided to go ahead and upgrade from Hyper-V Server 2008 R2. However, I keep getting this error:
"Windows Setup cannot find a location to store temporary installation files. To install Windows, make sure that a partition on your boot disk has at least 1198 megabytes (MB) of free space.
Error code 0x80070490"
I have over 20 gigs free on the boot volume, and tons more on my VHD volume, so I don't know why it's doing this. I have shut down all VMs, there are no snapshots, nothing cluttering up my C: drive, and yes I've rebooted it several times. I have
also tried copying the installation DVD to a local volume and installing that way, but I keep getting the same error. I know the quick solution would be to just format, reinstall clean, and pray that my VMs import into 2012 (which are already safely
on another volume), but there has to be a reason this is happening.
Any ideas? :) Thanks!Hello Vincent,
I get the same error trying to upgrade my 2008R2 server to 2012. Here's my diskpart output for the partition (it's a mirrored partition):

Unable to upgrade from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SP1
Hi there
I am currently in the middle of installing and configuring Sharepoint 2013 on a Windows 2012 R2 Virtual Server. I have first installed SQL Server 2008 R2 and then installed sharepoint 2013 including all of the prerequisites.
When I go to the SharePoint products configuration wizard, I get an error on the 'specify configuration database settings' page saying that I do not have the right SQL version as sharepoint 2013 needs SQL server 2008 R2 SP1 installed.
So I downloaded SP1 for SQL server 2008 R2 x86 but when I run the update, there are no instances for me to select to upgrade - it just says 'Shared Features'.
Sorry if this is a silly question - I am quite new to SQL!
TomHello,
You probably have a 64-bit SQL Server 2008 R2 instance but you downloaded a 32-bit version of SP1 for SQL Server 2008 R2.
Please download the 64-bit version of SP1.
Hope this helps.

Hi Forum,
We have SAP B1 8.8 with SQL Server 2005.
We'd like to upgrade our SQL Server 2005 to 2008.
Is there anything that we need to do on the SAP side to get this done?.
Regards,
Manuel RomanHi,
Are you the one creating the add-on? then you can recompile it anytime if not then try to contact
you developer to recompile it.
You can try creating a test database for 2008 then connect it this will assure that it will run.
Much better if you uninstall the 2005 then install the 2008 then restore your database.

Database upgradation from SQL Server 2008 to 2012
Hi Experts,
I am upgrading MSSQL 2008 to MSSQL 2012. This box contains all of the DBs for our Sharepoint installation.
We have identified that we can run the setup wizard to change the database and basically restore a backup from the 2008 database onto the 2012 database running in 2008 compatibility mode. But what should be done about the SharePoint Foundation database running
on the 2008 database?
Help me to resolve the issue.
Regards
Prakash MHi Prakash,
Here you are the steps i have used while doing such upgrade:
To Migrate SharePoint DBs from SQL Server to another either same version or to a new version (2008 to 2008 or 2008 to 2012) you can follow the following steps:
Stop all SharePoint and IIS Related Services.
Stop IIS.
Detach all related SQL Server databases.
Configuration database
Central Administration content database
Content databases
Service application databases
Move all database files (.mdf, .ldf, and .ndf) to the new server.
Set up same user permissions on the new SQL server.
Attach your databases to the new SQL Server.
Verify ports in your new SQL server.
Go to your SharePoint server and create your SQL Server Alias.
Start all your SharePoint service
Hope this is helpful

Backup Restore With SQL Server 2008 R2 although it succeeded with SQL Server 2008
Dears;
I have a Full backup of some DB of around 417 GB within SQL Server 2008 R2 , and when I tried to restore it , i get stuck several times with the error below :
Restore failed for Server (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)
A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details. Typically, an assertion failure is caused by a software bug or data corruption. To check for database corruption, consider
running DBCC CHECKDB. If you agreed to send dumps to Microsoft during setup, a mini dump will be sent to Microsoft. An update might be available from Microsoft in the latest Service Pack or in a QFE from Technical
Although I have restored
successfully other several Full+ Deferential backups for the same DB while it was in SQL Server 2008 not 2008 R2.
And so I have rounded all different possible assumptions for such common know error by Microsoft for SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 but
no way as next:
1-
I have attempted to restore it within 2 environments clustered and non-clustered of SQL Server 2008 R2.
2-
I have attempted to restore verify it and it was so fine .
3-
I have attempted to restore it using Continue_after_error ,no_checksum but no way.
4-
I have attempted to move Backup file to another Storage but no way.
5-
I have scheduled jobs to DBCC
Checkdb the live DB and it wasn’t any errors since long time right now
6-
I have also DBCC check all master +msdb+model+Tempdb ,and they are so fine
7-
I have also checked all I/O subsystem of SAN and Network controllers , but they are fine evidenced much more by my trial on 2 different environments.
8-
I have also checked Memory and it is so fine all the time since I have 128 GB memory and I control it also so well.
For DB Design +Structure :
It has 20 Files containing tables partitioned horizontal +Vertically
(Schema Partitioning +File Stream partitioning ) through these 20 files.
I have Data compression of the required tables only.
I have one table of more than 300 GB alone which is partitioned as mentioned above.
I have implemented Read Committed Snapshot isolation level using row versioning integrated so well with File stream technology since it is a new feature of SQL 2008 R2.
DB is in simple recovery model for garbage collection of all file stream data as a result of much Delete /update in images themselves.
So any one has any idea about such case..How to solve it…?Hi Ashwin,
When i searched with no answers these are listed out. So i thought this is still existing. Now on wards let me check the data and time of latest reply. Thanks for guidance.
It was happening by oversight. Thanks for guidance.

Windows small business 2011 standard cannot be upgraded to windows server 2012 R2 Standard
Can Sbs 2011 r2 standard upgrade to 2012 r2 standard?
Hi,
I agree with Cliff. There is no in-place upgrade and we have to do a migration.

Windows Live not working after upgrading to Windows Live 2011
Hi,
I upgraded app the application under Windows Live to 2011. All the
installation goes well, without any failure. Hurray!!!!
However now its
behaving very strange. None of the applications are instantiated upon executing
their executables.
While executing wlmail.exe, msnmsgr.exe,
WindowsLiveWriter.exe, etc, I can see in the task manager that the executed
process is started, but before getting interface of appication being executed,
it is terminated.
The only application that run is
wlstartup.exe.
Important note: Everything works fine for admin users, but
not for standard users on Lenovo Tinkpad T410i. On HP Pavillion dv4-1125nr, it
works fine for admin as well as standard users.
Can anyone help on
this??
ThanksHave you tried checking the properties of the programs and under the compatibility tab to tick the run as admin? That should work.
