Windows 2012: change network profile

Hi i have a query, how to change network profile to public from domain in a server on Windows 2012?
Best regards
Edgar
Best Regards Edgar

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
If the server is domain joined, when it starts to detect the network location, the machine will contact a DC via port 389. If this detection successful, it will get the domain profile. And we cannot change it. If the domain was not found or process failed,
NLA will let you to determine which firewall profile will be used, private or public.
For more information about Network Location Awareness, you may refer to the following article. It also applies to Windows 2012.

  • Disable EFS on Windows 2012 shared Network folder

    Hi,
we have a Windows Server 2012 which is sharing a folder for all our domain users. We use EFS for some clients. If a client copies a file to the shared network folder, it should be automatically decrypted. But instead, the files are being copied with the
encyrption, so that nobody else can open it. Clients should still be able to encrypt their files.
We've already disabled EFS on the Windows Server, but the files keep their encryption, after copying.
Is there a way to disable EFS on a shared network folder?
    Best regards,
    Matthias

There is no such option for EFS. If it is allowed, then all EFS operations are allowed.

  • Windows 2012 Datacenter R2 - Network Connections Confusion

I have recently created a 2012 Datacenter install with the goal to create virtualize test lab.
As part of the install two connections were created:
    1. Labeled 'Ethernet' with Hyper-V Extensible Virtual Switch protocol enabled.
2 Labeled 'Network 2' vEthernet (....Controller - Virtual Switch) with the standard networking protocols enabled.
    3. Network 2 interface is connected to the local area network.
Ethernet adapter vEthernet (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller - Virtual Switch):

    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter #2

I am confused with the purpose of the network connection "Ethernet" and Hyper-Virtual Switch protocol and how this relates the "network 2" interface. I uncertain which network connection is the physical connections.
I have tried to research this with "windows 2012 datacenter network connection configuration, setup, and etc.",  the results are a lot of the complex examination of setting of Hyper-V implementation, clusters, DHCP, and etc.
I hoping to locate information that will explain the fundamentals of these related technologies (tutorial, youtube videos, etc.).  Any helpful advice is welcome.

    Hi,
Based on the information which you provide, you created an External virtual switch, which binds to the physical network adapter so that virtual machines can access a physical network.
->I am confused with the purpose of the network connection “Ethernet” and Hyper-Virtual Switch protocol and how this relates the “network 2” interface. I uncertain which network connection is the physical connections.
->Network 2 interface is connected to the local area network.
Based on your description, I suppose that you encountered some problems with understanding virtual network switch. When we install Hyper-V and create an external virtual network, the management operating system uses a new virtual network
adapter to connect to the physical network. The network connections consist of the original network adapter and the new virtual network adapter. The original physical network adapter does not have anything bound to it. However, the virtual network adapter
has all of the standard protocols and services bound to it. Here, the “vEthernet” is the new virtual network adapter, and the “Ethernet” was the original physical network adapter. Hyper-V binds the Virtual Network Service Protocol to the physical network adapter
when an external virtual network is created. So the “Ethernet” has the Hyper-V Extensible Virtual Switch only. The physical adapter was equal to a virtual switch at this moment, all networking traffic is routed though the virtual switch.
And to the physical machine, due to the physical adapter is a virtual switch now, so the new virtual network adapter is its network adapter now. So we can see the all TCP/IP configurations of vEthernet are the same with the local area
    network.
For more details about virtual network switch, please refer to the link below,

  • How do you change network location type on Server 2012?

Within Network & Sharing Center there appears to be no options available to change a network type as you could do in Server 2012?
Within Network List Manager policies everything is set to "not configured" so this should not be disabling any functionality.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Firstly, if the server is domain joined, when it starts to detect the network location, the machine will contact a DC via port 389. If this detection successful, it will get the domain profile. And we cannot change it.
However, if the server is not domain joined, the domain was not found or process failed, NLA will let you to determine which firewall profile will be used, private or public.
We can do this by referring to

    Also we can refer to

  • Office 2013 hangs when saving files to local profile locations on Windows 2012 server

We installed Office 2013 a few weeks ago instead of Office 2003 on a Windows 2012 standard terminal server. We installed the last updates and Office is up-to-date now, but we experience problems with saving word, excel and powerpoint documents when we start
a new/clean document. It's not possible to save our documents to the local profile (desktop, documents etc.), but it's no problem to save our stuff to a network share on a different server.
Word is not responding after pressing save or save as and after a few seconds we see the 'microsoft is looking for a solution and will restart microsoft word'.
We did a complete reinstall of Office 2013 and removed the old installation with the removal tool from the microsoft website, without luck. We have the same saving issues with Office 2010, so it's not an Office 2013 issue.
We were looking in the access/rights on the terminal server, because we thought that it was an access/rights issue. But unfortunately we have the same problem with an domain admin user.
I tried to disable DEP and my AVG 2012 antivirus, but this steps are also not the issue.
I'm looking for a solution and i'm working on this case for a few days now. It gives me a headache when i'm thinking about a clean installation of this server. So please contact me when you have a solution or a tip to solve this problems!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, it may be caused a lot of reasons. Please check to see whether the following link is helpful:

  • Windows Deployment Service. Network Profile Radio Buttons greyed out with R2

    Hi All
I have downloaded and setup Server 2008 R2 (not yet activated). I have added the following roles "DHCP Server", "DNS Server", "Active Directory Domain Services" and "Windows Deployment Services". I can PXE boot a test client machine and (using the boot.win from windows 7 dvd) multicast a XP Image to it. This setup is connected via a 100 Mb switch and is an isolated network.
Under windows deployment services - if I right click my server - select properties - network tab "Network Profile is greyed out". I have tried running wdsutil /Set-TransportServer /Server:big /Profile:100Mbps but get the following error message: "Windows Deployment Services Management Utility Version 6.1.7600.16385. Error code 0xC110011F This WDS transport server does not support network profiles.
I have tried this on two hardware setups:
An Intel D915GUX 3GHz 2GB RAM and Marvel Yukon 88E8050 ethernet controller.
    An Intel D965 Core2Duo 1.86GHz 2GB RAM and  Intel 82566DM Network controller.
Incidently I have done the same setup with Server 2008 (not R2) on the D965 and the Network Profile radio buttons are not greyed out. If I upgrade the same test machine to server 2008 R2 the Network Profile radio buttons are greyed out. Is this a design change, does Server 2008 R2 no longer support network profiles as I am now unable to select 10 100 or 1000 Mbs ?
If more information is required or if anything needs further detail please let me know.
    Thanks for any help.
    Liam.D

Is there any way at all to manually set or control the network profile? In my environment, a SCCM\WDS multicast stream is bottoming out on speed and network utilization when the stream crosses a Nexus 7009 router. Speeds go from 200 Mbps to 20 mbps. I have
a theory that this "new" automatic configuration is placing the clients in a slow network profile that are on the opposite side of the router and I have been unable to find a way to speed of the transmission. I have also ruled out the "master
client" slowing down the stream buy using different clients only connecting to a stream 1 at a time. I have also ruled out the router as the source of the problem by having a VLC client listen to the multicast stream on the same side of the router as
the slow clients. The VLC client (unknown to SCCM\WDS) was able to receive the transmissions at 20 % utilization / 200 Mbps.

  • Windows 2012 network teaming broken "host unmanageable"

    Hello,
we are in the process of migrating servers to new hardware using the Platespin Migrate tool. That process has been tested in controlled Proof Of Concepts now for Windows 2003, 2008 and 2008R2, but now we come to Windows 2012 and we run into an issue with
the Network Teaming reconfiguration after the copy is complete.
The Windows 2008R2 and below also had teaming software installed from HP (HPNCU), and after migration we could simply run the cqniccmd.exe /D command to remove the "ghost" Teaming configuration and setup a new Team on the new networkadapters in
    the new (blade) server.
Now with Windows 2012 we also have teaming on the original server that was configured using lbfoadmin.exe, and it was expected that after server 'restore' using Platespin that the team would be broken, but I also expected to simply be able to remove that
leftover and configure a new one. But instead when I open the servermanager/lbfoadmin I see that the server shows "host unmanageable" and there is no sign of any old Team, nor does it show the new adapters to let me make a new team.
I hope anyone can help me cleanup the old team-config and make a new one.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Eric
Best regards and many thanks in advance, Eric Vegter

    Hi Alex,
thanks for the reply. Basically it doesn't matter what tool is used to copy/clone/restore a machine to new hardware... After that process the NIC teaming will no longer work because the underlaying NICs that build the team have gone. That same thing happens
when doing this cloning whit an HP server that has the HP Nic Configuration Utility installed that you use to configure a Team. After clone/migrate the server has new NICs and the virtual Team-NIC that was created on the original server is still seen in the
Network-Adapters (NCPA.cpl) overview but it is invalid at that moment and must be removed. That remove/cleanup is simply done via the HP NCU commandline utility.. All works fine... On windows 2008r2 and below.. but 2012 is a different story.. That Virtual
NIC that was created by the Windows 2012 built-in teaming is not visible after Cloning in the network-adapters overview, but the system still thinks it has teaming configured and using the provided GUI or powershell commands I cannot undo that old configuration.
I also cannot setup a new teaming configuration. There is no firewall active on the system and the new physical NIC has an IP assigned and I can RDP and ping to the server as well, so the ICMP cause you mention will not be the case here..
The only way I could clone that 2012 system and afterwards setup a new team was to break the teaming on the original source server, then clone it and then on that new server setup a team. That was possible now that the original server did not have a Team
so nothing was left 'ghosted' somewhere in the registry/config.
Still I wish this would be possible to simply cleanup via a powershell commandlet and a /force (or /include-hidden or so) parameter so I do not have to make changes to my original source.
If anyone has a suggestion how to (forcefully)  cleanup that Windows 2012 NIC Teaming config pls let me know. It would still help me migrate/clone the other few 2012 systems around here.
    Thanks
    Eric

Please note all the reference for previous servers for fixing this issue  does not work on 2012 R2.
I am using Static-IP and "Workgroup" as domain setting.
In 2012 server by Right  clicking on Network and Turn sharing on or OFF worked but in 2012- R2 Right click is not working not providing turn sharing ON or OFF option.

Check if you can change from here :

  • Windows 2012 RDP "resets" user settings while using Roaming Profiles

Last month we installed a RDP environment running a Windows 2012 DC and 2 Windows 2012 RDP servers. The RDP servers are running in a pool.
For the rest it's nothing fancy.
The problem is that user-settings are reset, most likely during logon. This only occurs when we use Roaming Profiles.
    - We create a new user, in a container with no GPO's attached.
    - This user gets a RP while logging on, no errors, at logoff the RP is written to it's correct folder.
    - Logging on again. Now for example I make Chrome standard browser and change the program which opens JPG files.
    - Logging off
    - I check the NTUSER.DAT in the RP folder and the changes I made can be found in the file. So it has been saved to the NTUSER.DAT.
    - Now I login again and check the settings I made. IE is standard browser again and the JPG setting is also back to standard.
    - Logging off
    - Checking the NTUSER.DAT in the RP folder and yes, everything is back to default.
Now the funny part is, when I create a user with a local profile, everything is working properly. Settings been saved.
It doesn't make a different what kind of user it is. Domain User, Domain Admin. They all have the same problems when using RP's.
No error messages in the Event Viewer.
I'm clearly unable to solve this problem. Hoping someone can help me on this one.
What makes the settings reset at logon while using Roaming Profiles?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Have you enable Cache copies option of roaming profiles?
This issue might occurs because the User Profile service does not load the terminal server roaming profile correctly after the user account password is reset.
When the Delete cache copies of roaming profiles Group Policy setting is enabled, and when a user is prompted to change the user account password, the User Profile service loads a local temporary user profile. The User Profile service loads this user profile
to perform the password reset operation. However, the profile changes to a combination of the local temporary profile and of the roaming profile after the user password is reset. Therefore, the terminal server roaming profile is not loaded correctly.
In addition, please try to delete the SID of the user from registry key and check the result. You can follow the below path.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
    More information:
You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon” error message
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215/en-us
Also check “User Profiles on Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services” article.
    Hope it helps!

  • Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking and Hyper-V.

Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOuoIWzmdE
Hi thanks for reading. Now I may well have my terminology incorrect here so I will try to explain  as best I can and apologies from the start.
    It’s a bit of both Hyper-v and Server 2012R2.
I am setting up a lab with Server 2012 R2. I have several physical network cards that I have teamed called “HostSwitchTeam” from those I have made several Virtual Network Adaptors such as below
    examples.
New-VMSwitch "MgmtSwitch" -MinimumBandwidthMode weight -NetAdaptername "HostSwitchTeam" -AllowManagement $false
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Vswitch" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Cluster" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
When I install Hyper-V and it comes to adding a virtual switch during installation it only shows the individual physical network cards and the
HostSwitchTeam for selection.  When installed it shows the Microsoft Network Multiplexor Driver as the only option.
Is this correct or how does one use the Vswitch made above and incorporate into the Hyper-V so a weight can be put against it.
Still trying to get my head around Vswitches,VMNetworkadapters etc so somewhat confused as to the way forward at this time so I may have missed the plot altogether!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Paul
    Paul Edwards

    Hi P.J.E,
    >>I have teams so a bit confused as to the adapter bindings and if the teams need to be added or just the vEthernet Nics?.
    Nic 1,2
    HostVMSwitchTeam
    Nic 3,4,5
             HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    >>The adapter Binding settings are:
    HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    V-Curric
    Nic 3
    Nic 4
    Nic 5
    V-Livemigration
    HostVMSwitch
    Nic 1
    Nic 2
    V-iSCSI
    V-HeartBeat
Based on my understanding of the description , "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
HostVMSwitch " are teamed NIC .
You can think of them as two physical NICs (do not use NIC 1,2,3,4,5 any more , there are just two NICs "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
    HostVMSwitch").
    V-Curric,
    V-Livemigration , V-iSCSI ,
V-HeartBeat are just VNICs of host  (you can change their name then check if the virtual switch name will be changed )

  • Windows 7 SP1 client file lock on network share hosted ny WIndows 2012 Server

    Hello
I have one strange problem after migration from Windows 2003 Server to Windows 2012 Server R2 Standard.
All migration tasks went well but two things do not work.
In Computer Management you have The Opened Files feature and if you open any file that is located on the network share hosted by Windows 2012 R2 form Windows 7 SP1 and then close it
it remains open in the Opened Files tab (even if you wait an hour).  There is no problem with Windows XP SP3. The issue exist only with Windows 7.
The session view of sessions to the file server do not work. If I try to open it I get the message that the application is not responding.
Can someone help me with that ?
    About the environment:
It is one server Domain migrated form 2003 to 2012R2.
The domain and forest level was raised to 2012 R2.
I have made clean install of Windows 2012 R2 and then migrated AD.
    Best Regards

    >>There is no problem with Windows XP SP3. The issue exist only with Windows 7.
T>>he session view of sessions to the file server do not work. If I try to open it I get the message that the application is not responding.
Based on the description, please check event logs in Event Viewer to see if there were some related events logged. Besides, does this phenomenon happen all Windows 7 clients? We can try to restart the client to see if it helps.

  • Windows 2012 R2 hyper-v network unable to connect to outside resources

Today, I went and upgraded a Windows 2008 R2 machine to 2012 R2.  I did a clean install and have never seen this problem before in this fashion.  It is a HP 370G6 with an HP NC375I quad card.  Only 1 adapter is in use, so it is not teamed.
After installing, none of my VM's will communicate to outside resources.  I got the Windows 2012 R2 update package from HP dated 4/14.  My virtual switch manager is set to Allow management operating system to share this adapter.  The adapter
type is set to External.  After playing around with 1 guest, I finally have it communicating with the rest of the network.  However, my other guests will not.  I have checked all IP's multiple times, no differences but the last octet.
I can not figure out what is allowing my 1 guest to now communicate, but the others to not.  It is driving me crazy!  I have tried adding and removing the adapter several times, and also tried using the Legacy NIC to no avail

    Hi,
    The external
virtual switch vm can can’t access the outside resource issue we found most of them were pointing to the VMQ, we can try to disable the VMQ, here is the steps:
    Powershell command:

You can refer to the following article for more about the VMQ:

  • Change OutlookSecureTempFolder in Windows 2012/Outlook 2013

I am looking for a way to change the value of the OutlookSecureTempFolder registry key for all users on a RDS server, which supposedly can be found at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Security.
In Windows 2012 I don't seem to be able to find this key. Does anyone know where it is at in Windows 2012? Or does anybody know another way to change it?

    Hi,
Do you ever have an attachment opened in Outlook? If you haven't tried opening an attachment within Outlook, the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Security key won't be created. So, please try to open an attachment directly within Outlook, and then look for the key again.
If you still cannot see the key, we may also try creating the key directly to see the result. But before this, it's recommended to
back up your registry because serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly.
Note: Please make sure that the new folder for Outlook Security temp file exists before changing it in the registry.
Please let me know if this works.

I agree with Martin, we can check the membership about this user account. Besides, we can refer to following steps to check the memberships:
Start the ADUC on windows 2012.
Right-click the user account and select
Properties, then click the Member Of tab.
Check which group is the user account belongs to.
In addition, i suggest you create a new user account, and check if the new account can change other user’s password.
    Best Regards,
    Erin
